>> maybe not so. it is here, goes until late tonight. septa says given the high demand for these passes, this system is actually the most fairway to get the passes in as many hands as possible. so that means for buyers here, and around the world hundreds of thousands of them it, will come down to few clicks and a prayer today. the lottery is live, since 12:01 a.m. septa side has been linking to its papal pass lottery, which runs until 11:59 tonight. >> no matter what time you enter your lottery submission, everyone has the same chance of being selected. >> on the lottery site, up enter your time, date, rail station preferences and e-mail address, and then wait. once the lottery shutdown, it weeds out suspicious, fraudulent entries, then thursday emails go out to buy heres want a chance to purchase up to ten passes each. by the way only 350,000 are for sale. >> i'm not going to stress

right now. i just take one day at a time. >> septa's lottery comes after last month's first go at on line pass sales flocked. their site crashed under the weight of thousands of requests for the pope's visit september 26th and 27th. only a few hundred passes were sold. the one day 10-dollar passes are a must to travel the regional rails during papal events that weekend even if you're not planning to see the pontiff. >> well, if i don't get a pope pass i guess i won't be riding. simple as that. >> simple as that indeed. if you don't get a pass, perhaps you can watch on tv, from home, you can also tell you that this week, septa could also announce the sale of more passes, these are for subways, trolleys, buses and they'll run from september 26th through the 28th. 750,000 of those are up for sale, also too your monthly passes and tokens will work for that. but not the same for the regional rail passes. so if you're in the city, it

may be better for you. live in center city, justin finch, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". new this morning nearly dozen cars are damaged in south philadelphia. residents are awakening to find their tires slashed. if happened in several spots including the 1,000 block of ellsworth and the 800 block of south broad street. police tell "eyewitness news" a 29 year old suspect is in custody at this hour. >> also, a man is shot in philadelphia's point breeze neighborhood. it is unclear what led to the shooting which happened just before 1:00 this morning at 19th and ellsworth. that man is in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the chest and right arm. there is no word yet on a suspect. and, police are also investigating a home invasion in south philadelphia. investigators say that two men broke into a home on the 1500 block of south marshall street around 1:00 this morning. they reportedly tied up at least one victim. >> and, 18 year old man is shot several times in the city's olney section.

philadelphia police say it happened on the 200 block of lynton avenue late sunday night. the victim was rushed to einstein hospital where we're told he's in stable condition. police are searching for a suspect at this hour. >> police are also looking for the driver who took off after hitting a five year old girl in north philadelphia on sunday. it happened on the 2200 block of north lambert street. that girl was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. officers are searching for a light colored jeep with pennsylvania tags jsg6673. if you have any information you are asked to call police. >> right now 5:06. and hitchhiking robot who caught world-wide attention has met his untimely end in philadelphia. hitchbot, the hitchhiking robot, was two weeks into a cross country journey when someone damaged it in old city. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson picks up the story.

i saw a commercial that said you can save $500 by switching to progressive. that was me, mom. [ laugh ] i thought you said "that was me, mom." [ laughter ] >> rain is giving fire fighters australia a helping hand. check the city out here, flames ripping through the blue mountains west of sydney all weekend long. hundreds of firefighters battled that blaze. although no homes were threatened alert was issued for residents to monitor the situation for changes. >> and, it is a different story in northern california over 20 wild fires are burning in the state. the largest fire known as the rocky fire, doubles in size over the weekends, burning thousands of acres and prompting more evacuations. cbs news correspondent chris martinez has the latest. >> the rocky fire north of sack meant owe is raging on for a sixth day. thousands of firefighters, from around the state are doing their best to box it in

battling dry vegetation, and irradic winds. >> that's big, big problem for us then we don't have one direction that the fire's going, it is going in several directions. >> even with the constant water drops overhead, the rocky fireman and dollars to double in size over the weekend. since it errupted wednesday, a mid record heat, the fire has scorched more than 50,000 acres, and destroyed dozens of homes. thousands of resident had been forced to evacuate. >> terrifying. but you just go and get everything you can take care of your animal, and do what you can to get out of here. >> richard hardy has taken up shelty at nearby red cross center. >> i couldn't get back if i wanted to, and with the fire danger i'm not sure i want to. >> the rocky fire is just one of more than 20 fires burning across the state. >> there is a lot of fear this fire season just continues until we get significant rainfall. >> fire officials say the danger is only expected to continue with scattered thunderstorms, gusty winds in the forecast. chris martinez, cbs news,

clear lake, california. 5:16 right now. sure could use some rainout west. we have some rain headed our way, right? >> actually do. tracking cold front, more of lackluster system than anything. it is cold front for one thing, but doesn't do much to cool us down. it will however usher in shower thunderstorm here and there as the day goes on. but it is also going to help trigger little bit more humidity. we haven't real had i too much of that in the last few days, heat granted i'll give that you, we've had that but been comfortable heat. we can't always say that specially at this time of year. let's go ahead take you back in time, start things off despite checking out statistics, and with yesterday, did hit 90 degrees as anticipated normal high still upper 80s for the area. but this does now make this the, let's see the tally 20th day thus far this year. we expect to tally onto that, an additional two days, today tomorrow for 2015. so we really up those numbers just in the last week or so, tacking on six additional days from what we originally had

had. i don't think we'll come close to 2010 at this point but certainly at least making good run toward 2011 standards obviously already on par with 2013. let's go ahead talk about what's going on in the atmosphere. tracking code front. at the moment all calm, all completely collected, see the center city skyline well off in the distance granted but it is there, it is visible at least here outside palmyra coach nature park. we take a look what's going on on storm scan, nice wide zoom. shows you the approach of this latest cold front. there is some very heavy duty thunderstorms headed toward cincinnati, starting to fizzle lit bit. but his front is what is crossing through later today. as mentioned, you have little bit of fizzle effect going on with the leading edge of that, and really just looking at scattered shower or storm. disturbance passing us by well off to the south here, another well off to the south just through the big bends of florida that too expected to stay to the south. so this forecast isn't really all that action packed. we are going to see little bit after cool down in time. we walk you through meanwhile

what's going to happen through the rest of the day as of 10:00 a.m., clear as can be, starting to see humidity creep up. there is the speckle effect on the radar few showers few thunderstorms begin to get triggered with the passage of the front. look ahead to the eyewitness weather seven day forecast, yes, we don't cool off all it this much. still sun and clouds, wednesday looks beautiful with lower humidity, and new disturbance does move in with additional showers as early as thursday. 82 degrees though meisha, that will be like cold spell at that point. >> i just, like jolt to my system when you stay that 80 degrees can be cold spell. katie, am i right? let me tell you let's talk minnesota weather shall we one day? happy monday to you still dark outside still very early. we are happier with us, having the cup of coffee. a look outside. this is spring garden onramp to the schuylkill expressway westbound. as you can see, this is the schuylkill expressway, the onramp reopens tomorrow. but the off ramp is closed until august 12th.

looking at the schuylkill expressway though, looking pretty darn good for a busy monday morning. now this is where we had the first crash. morning in kensington, aramingo avenue at lehigh avenue, the left lanas you can see is blocked, two vehicles were involved, but it looks like they are now just starting to get this cleaned up. did i see some cars just moments ago trying to swerve around. that will but not causing any major delays. here is a look at the roosevelt boulevard, head southbound around the s curve trying to make your way to the schuylkill expressway, nice steady flow, but because we have some headlight out there we know it will be a busy morning, erika over you. >> meisha, thank you. a nine year old boy who was hit by a bat during baseball game in kansas over the weekends has died. we're told that kieser carlisle was a bat boy for the liberal bj's and amateur baseball team. he was running to retrieve a bat when the on deck hitter took a practice swing and accidentally struck that boy. kieser was wearing a mel met at the time of the impact. police in memphis are now offering a $10,000 reward for

the suspect who shot and killed a police officer. that suspect is identified as 29 year old treemain will burn. will burn accused of shooting a and killing officer sean bolton during traffic stop. they believe he interrupted drug deal at the time. will burn was on supervised release after serving federal sentence for robbery. a police officer is struck by an out of control car that also injured numerous others in jersey city. eyewitnesses say that a speeding driver hit a car sending it on to the sidewalk, and into nine people. the chain reaction crash happened just after 8:00 p.m. last night on ocean avenue near middle avenue. the driver tried to leave the scene, but was apprehended. a house party in brooklyn, new york ends in gunfire wounding nine people. we have surveillance video for you here of the shooting. it happened around 2:00 sunday morning, after an argument. the victims both men and women, range from 18 to 38. nypd says all of them are
