and soon you may be able to add beer to the list. officials in one town are one step closer to putting suds on the shelves. good evening, i'm jessica dean. >> i'm ukee washington. shoppers may soon have another choice to go along with that hoagie. david spunt is in couldn't core township with more details. >> reporter: this wawa on naamans creek road just made history. in just a few months you can see people walking out with a six pack of beer but it's not going to happen overnight and there are some stipulations. for years, people have asked for it. >> i like to drink beer. it will be easier to come here and get a brew. i like it. >> reporter: pennsylvania's strict alcohol sales laws made the deal almost impossible. right now, if you're in pennsylvania and want to buy beer at a wawa you're out of luck. this unanimous vote tuesday night by the concord township supervisors may change thing for us. >> it's a good thing. get more people here to come into the wawa and support it and

support our neighborhood here. so sure. why not? >> reporter: supervisors voted to move ahead with the project that would allow wawa to sell beer at this concord township store in delaware county. >> i think it would be fine. i don't have any problem with it. >> reporter: but there are some conditions. the store can only sell six packs of beer. and the beer area would be a store inside a store. others worry selling beer at a local wawa could spell trouble. >> you go to wawa to get your gas and pick up your beer at the same time. i mean yeah there could be like -- just depends on the person, you know. there could be,ing yeah that could be problem with that. >> if you happen to stop at a wawa in virginia or florida, you'll find plenty of beer. one customer hopes the couldn't core township decision will have a ripple effect across pennsylvania. >> i don't see a problem with it. as long as they card everybody. >> reporter: of course, there are some details to be work out. the pennsylvania liquor control board has to approve the deal before it goes through. i reached out to wawa for a comment. i'm told that comment will

likely come tomorrow. roaring in delaware county, david spunt cbs3 "eyewitness news". we are finally get something relief from our 8-day heat wave but we're also tracking some storms tonight. meteorologist kate bilo has more for you on the out sky deck. kate. >> thanks ukee. all depends on where you are. i can tell you right now on the sky deck in center city it feels amazing out here. there's a light breeze. you can tell the humidity has dropped. no problems for us tonight. no problems for any area north and west of philadelphia. this event tonight as far as the storms are concerned is relegated to the shore points and portions of delaware. let's take a quick look at storm scan3. you can see thing are lighting up but missing philadelphia by a good margin to the south and east of that dry air has moved on in and the atmosphere has really stabilized. but down the shore, no such luck from atlantic city all the way down to cape may point and into the delaware beaches you are seeing some heavy thunderstorms roll through at the moment. lots of lightning with this right up and down the garden state parkway and again 92 delaware as well and you can see the lightning associated with

those storms. these storms pretty frequent here across especially cape may county right now cape may courthouse stone harbor sea isle city, avalon down toward cape may you're seeing heavy rain and frequent lightning and into delaware as well from lewes all the way back into portions of the southwestern corner of the state of delaware. the storms are firing up once again. so overnight, spotty thunderstorms mainly south jersey and delaware the rest of the region is just too dry dry air has moved in. we're fine but brief downpours with anyone of these storms and gusty winds as well as that frequent lightning. you can see the cooler air started to filter in. 60s in lancaster right now. 70 in allentown. still hanging on to 82 in philadelphia. but temperatures will be dropping through the night as that dry air work its way in. dew point in the city right now 52. that's right down in the awesome range but still a lot of moisture down the shore for these storms to work with. now coming up i'll tell you about dry air for everyone that arrives tomorrow and then perhaps chance of rain by the end of the week when i join you inside. back over to you. >> all right, kate, thank you.

tonight the eastbound lanes of the pennsylvania turnpike are open once again in bucks county following a fiery crash. chopper three over the scene in southampton. tractor trailer collided with an suv and caught fire. it's unclear if anyone was injured. one lane was opened around 4:00 o'clock this afternoon to clear outstrained drivers between the willow grove and bensalem skits. fast forward to no night. the scene has been cleared and traffic is flowing smoothly once again. authorities are still working to determine the cause of that crash. tonight federal health investigators have launched an investigation into dorney park in allentown. osha the occupational safety and health administration, began its probe after an employee was hospitalized at the theme park last month. no word on the nature of the investigation and dorney park is not commenting. but we do know in 2014 osha fined dorney park for heat related violations. in langhorne, bucks county tonight a deadly stabbing and chopper three over the scene. it happened at a home in the 500

block of trap lane. we're told a son allegedly stabbed his father during an argument. the father decide at saint mary medical center and the son is now in custody. >> the suspect accused using craigslist to rob and kill a man will spent the rest of his life in prison. injury convicted thomas coffee of murder today. in 2013 prosecutors say coffee lured daniel cook to west oak lane by advertising an atv for sale. although there were no eyewitnesses police said something went wrong and coffee shot and killed cook. coffee was also convict evidence three other armed robberies two of which used craigslist ad as bait. new tonight neighbors and neighborhoods come together to take stand against crime. to night is national night out and our todd quinones visited several towns taking part in south jersey. >> reporter: henry lugo found shot multiple times thursday night in front of a lindenwold apartment building. the murder of the 24-year-old camden man remains unsolve. it's the latest example of why

police say nights like this are important. >> national night out is about police connecting with community with a goal in mine. >> crime is what crime is if we foster the relationship with the residents, maybe we can get some help. maybe some people would be a little more apt to call us, maybe with some witness information or things like that. report roar the last time lindenwold did something like this it was 1990. some 25 years ago. but just recently there was a renewed effort to do this again. >> we've been trying to do this for about three, four years now. we just couldn't figure out thou get started. >> reporter: for the first time ever the voorhees police department is taking part in national night out. residents here see the benefits. >> i'm just looking forward to getting out in the community meet some neighbors, meet some people i've scene in the community and haven't really talked to them before. meet some of the police officers as well. >> crime doesn't know any zip code that's for sure. so we have our share. but this is really about us connecting with the community at

all levels. >> reporter: in camden, kids there got a chance to have some fun. as they enjoyed national night out inform camden county, new jersey, todd quinones cbs3 "eyewitness news". in philadelphia strawberry mansion neighborhood national night out took on a block party atmosphere. there was live music as well as games and face painting for the young people. events were held in other philadelphia neighborhoods as well and in the suburbs. the first ever national night out was held in ardmore in 1984. tonight, the countdown rolls on. we're now just 53 days away from pope francis' arrival in philadelphia. and septa says its online lottery for papal passes was a success. winners of the lottery for the regional rail passes will begin to be notified on thursday. that process is expected to last until sunday. septa now turn its attention to lottery for the norristown high speed line and trolley routes 101 and 102. announcement about that is expected late this week.

ahead of september's papal visit, 1500 members of the knights of columbus opened their supreme convention in philadelphia today. catholic church pageantry at its height as an exhibit convention center was transformed into a cathedral. archbishop charles chaput was the main celebrant. today the leadership of the knight of columbus announced a commitment to expand it's fundraising efforts in order to aid christian refugees escaping persecution in the middle east. >> today we are compelled as an organization to speak up for our brothers and sisters in the middle east. pope francis has called the conditions in which christian refugees live there intolerable. >> the knights have already donated $3 million in humanitarian aid to helpers cuted christians in the middle east. >> a former philly favorite returns to citizens bank park tonight. >> the fans didn't hold back how they feel about jimmy rollins. lesley van arsdall joins us with

campaign 2016 the line sun set for the first republican presidential debate. tonight the top 10 candidates from an average of national polls were shrek to do take the stage. and here they are. donald trump leading the pack follow the by jeb bush and scott walker, new jersey governor chris christie just made the cut for thursday's prime time debate held in cleveland. trump has a significant lead in the cbs news poll that was released today. and these candidates did not make the top 10 so they will appear together during a debate earlier thursday evening and they include rick perry, rick santorum and lindsey graham. they have a month to get their national poll numbers up in order to be included in the next prime time debate in september. meanwhile new jersey governor chris christie is making some headlines after speaking candidly on the campaign trail about birth control and religion. during a town hall breakfast new hampshire he said he's a practicing catholic and has used birth control although the

church for bids it. christie says he doesn't believe using birth control during part of his live makes him a bad catholic. every barn notice this to be true. child care is certainly expensive. >> moms and dads want the best for their children but there are still some areas where families can trim costs. three on your side consumer reporter jim donovan takes a look at the numbers. >> a recent survey of child care costs find various options come with various price tags all cost thousands of dollars each year. national average weekly rate for a nanny $488. for two children in a daycare center just more than $341 a week. and for an after school sitter about $197 per week. care.com says one thing often overlooked by parents is a budget plan for child care expenses. in surveying parents who do plan, they found most 59% don't plan their child care spending until after a child arrives.

drink after all that spicy food and you'll likely reach for a bottle of water. in fact, more americans are ditching soda and buying bottled water instead. experts predict that by 2017 water sales in the united states will pass sales of soft drinks. reason people are much more concerned these days with what they're putting in to their bodies. anonymous donor has given a big boost to children in camden. >> over the past few years this donor has given $50,000 to north camden little league. this league is now grown to 520 kids from tee ball all the way to high school age and now the league is looking to expand to other parts of camden. >> we tend to struggle here and, um, and for someone to be so generous like this just like a blessing. >> despite the generous donation from that mystery benefactor the league says it is always looking for additional support to help get as many kids as it can on the feel. >> that's great. >> isn't that great. >> the game of life. that sports goes a long way.

sports and arts love it. >> if you going to watch maybe baseball game -- >> hawaii. >> things are looking up for you. a little cooler out there. >> it feels awesome outside right now. can i tell you it feels there's a nice breeze, the humidity is gone. it feels fantastic. >> that's great. next couple of days look good. then bite end of the week it may got other way we will be in the 70s with a chance for showers. pattern change a game changer as we have been suffering through an 8-day heat wave. now we've got highs in the 80s for the next two days. by friday we may be stuck in the 70s all day long with some much needed rain trying to move into the forecast. let's take a look speaking of rape down the shore, you're seeing it this is atlantic city right now you can see it look a little murky out there. a little foggy. there is some rain falling in atlantic city at the moment. the heaviest is missing atlantic city just off to the south. but we have have been tracking showers and storms here and there. down the shore you're getting soaked again from basically lbi all the way down through the delaware beaches tonight. that's where the storms are. the rest of the region is fine.

it's just south jersey and into delaware you can see the camera shakinshaking there gusty wind s well. here the rain again from portions of ocean county all the way down into southern delaware and storms are kind of regenerating along this line so another round has fired up in eastern maryland that's going to come through delaware so i don't think we really clear this out for at least the next several hours. if you're down the shore probably best to just stay inside for the rest of the night some heavy rain and now lightning moving off the coast probably a pretty amazing light show there if you're in stone harbor, avalon, sea isle city still raining heavily there. the worst of lightning is now offshore but more rain and more lightning moving into portions of sussex county, delaware, and all this could lift up into the shore points before things are said and done. so bit of a messy night down the shore and in southern delaware you can see the cooler air thanks to that rain we're back into the 70s in atlantic city and wildwood. 70 in allentown take leak at mount pocono, 59 degrees there right now. 68 in cape may. the rain has real dropped the temperature there. stone harbor at 72. so we got to 93 again today our

normal high is 87. so we're not that far off normal. as far as heat waves go it wasn't the hottest heat wave we've ever had. but it has been an 8-day stret stretch. we're now at 22 days above 90 this year beats last year and it beats 2013. got a ways to go to beat 2012 and 55 days back in 2010 does not look like we'll hit that thank goodness. 8-day heat wave with the hottest days on either end last tuesday and wednesday and again today and yesterday. longest heat wave we've had for two years since july 14th to the 21st of 2013. but now we're saying goodbye to the heat wave. this front is clearing the coast tonight. high pressure builds in tomorrow is gorgeous. nice breeze from the north and west. low humidity. temperatures still in the 80s but perfect summer day. thursday is even cooler and then clouds and showers start to build in thursday afternoon and you can see most of the this rain will try to mess to us the south but it all depends which computer model you look at. this one keeps it off to the south but if we take look at the european model watch what happens the rain comes further
