summer day meisha. it is a close call. we are flirting with 90 degrees yet again today but regardless of the thermometer and if we did extend the heat wave by an extended day it will feel a lot more comfortable to you. humidity has been what has been getting to us in the last few days here as we start to see that ramp up and wet weather moves through. lets start off by getting you outside. things are quiet at this hour. nice clearing sky for you overlooking center city, heavier thunderstorms through our southern most communities last night those have moved out to sea and in center city and every where else things are looking good. lets go back and talk about the heat wave. we are officially at this point in the middle of the eight day heat wave. we don't think that we will necessarily continue that today, but what you're also going to notice here that you start to cool down a bit but see that humidity dropping off. quick check of storm scan, those then are storms, all of them out to sea a few high

clouds depending on your location but things dried out across the board here. area dew point tell the story see how much dryer it is, lower the dew point the dryer that air mass and we are still in the upper 60's and lower 70's through south jersey, delaware. still feeling muggy but we are in transition as we speak. as that continues, we will eventually see that dryer air take over for everyone. so, it is still will a warm day don't get me wrong still august after all still um iser time, upper 80's, we're shooting for will 88, 89 degrees at the height of the day with more sun to help that along. humidity is dropping. we will have a northwesterly breeze and that said, meisha, it looks like a much nicer day. >> i will take that as great news thanks very much, katie. happy hump day both katie and everyone at home just waking up with us, it is still early. here's the ben franklin bridge. i love looking at this in the 4:00 o'clock hour because it

looks nice and smooth. everybody traveling around, at posted speed. so, we will have construction project in play. here's 95 moving in the northbound direction at girard. far right lane we have some construction going on but that will not cause any slow downs at this early hour, and then also i-95 northbound between bartram avenue and airport you can see blocking that far right lane. we have right cone zone in play. that is another air contract we are dealing with construction. give yourself a couple extra minutes in that area we have an accident in becks county warwick township york road closed between valley road and sugar bottom road. you want to use an alternate. would i suggest easton road in that area. also the phillies will play another ballgame verse dodgers tonight at 7:05. mass transit is looking great. they will be having some extra subway as they normally do so hopefully we have another win erika, over to you. right now search is on for gunman who shot and killed a man riding a bicycle.

"eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us from that scene in philadelphia's wynfield neighborhood with the very latest information justin, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. several 911 calls brought police here to this block on the 5300 block of berk street and just behind us is where police found that man, as you mentioned shot in the head, medics were on the scene a short time later there were reports of the several gunshots fired that came in just before midnight police say. police arrived here to the scene and found that young victim now described as a john doe believed to be in his late teens, early 20's. his body was found lying on the street straddling a bike police say and it appears that the victim was riding a week or sitting on that bike when he was shot. crime scene unit work the scene on berks for hours and then they were able to uncover some clues about that gun. >> ballistic evidence on the scene indicates that the shooter fired at least three shots from the semiautomatic

weapon. we found three large caliber spent shell casings all just several feet from where victim's body collapsed which is an indication that this shooter, fired these three shots from point blank range. >> reporter: there again a live look at where that young man lost his life, as you heard police find three large spent shell casings at this hour, they are hoping to uncover video evidence. there are crime cameras at 51st and berks and several private cameras nearby, next step is to scan video in hopes of the catching this crime in progress or perhaps those suspects. we are live in wynfield i'm justin finch for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". meanwhile a bucks county man is behind bars this morning for allegedly killing his father. chopper three over that scene tuesday night in the middletown township, on the 500 block of trappe lane. we are told it was as a result of the argument between father and the son.

4:35, and beer is coming to soon a delaware county wawa maybe. the concord township board of supervisors okayed a plan to sell beer at convenient store on naamans creek road, in chadds ford. the beer will be in a designated area. wawa could only sell six packs. some customers like it, others worry it could lead to trouble. >> you go to wawa to get your gas and pick up your beer at the same time. it just depend on the person. there could be a problem with that. >> i don't see a problem with it. as long as they card everybody. >> reporter: pennsylvania liquor control board still needs to approve this plan. wawa is already selling beer at stores in virginia and florida. happening today, the philadelphia housing authority is imposing its new smoking ban. this plan which effects 80,000 tenants bans smoking inside homes and on public housing

property, except in designated outdoor smoking areas. violators in existing buildings will have to a ten counseling. leaseholders could face eviction from new buildings after a fourth violation. a federal health investigation is now underway at dorney park in allentown. osha, the the occupational i havety and health administration began their probe after a employee was hospitalized at a theme park last month. no word on the nature of the investigation and dorney park is not commenting. back in 2014 osha fine dorney park for heat-related violations. the suspect accused of using craigs list to rob and kill a man will spend the rest of his life in prison. jury convicted thomas coffee of murder. in 2013, prosecutors say that coffee lured daniel cook to west oak lane by advertising an atr for sale. although there were no eyewitnesses police say something went wrong and

coffee shot and killed cook. coffee was also convicted of three other armed robberies two of which used an ad on craigs list as bait. well, neighbors came together to take a stand against crime. "eyewitness news" in lindenwald yesterday for national night out. the the event is about police connecting with the the community to help curb crime. last time lindenwald did this was 25 years ago. >> crime is what crime is but if we foster relationship with the residents maybe we can get some help. maybe some people would be a little bit more apt to call us maybe with some witness information or things like that. >> and for the the first time ever voorhees took part in national night out. in philadelphia's strawberry mansion neighborhood they took time out using a block party to create a fun atmosphere there. live music as well as some games, face painting for the kids having a good time. event were held in other philadelphia neighborhoods and suburbs, the the first ever,

national night out was held in ardmore, in 1984. 4:39. ten candidates make cut for first republican presidential debate. "fox news" channel based choices on average of the national polls. donald trump made it. cbs news poll shows a significant lead. jeb bush and scott walker are in as is new jersey governor chris christie. the debate is tomorrow night in cleveland. now among those who did not make the top ten former pennsylvania senator rick santorum, rick perry and lindsey graham. they will debate each other tomorrow afternoon. they have a month to get national poll numbers up. next prime time debate is in september. meanwhile new jersey governor chris christie is speaking candidly about birth control and religion. during a town hall breakfast in new hampshire he is a practicing catholic, and he also had used birth control but church rules forbid it. christie says he does not believe using birth control

this morning we are now just 52 days away from pope francis arrival in philadelphia later this morning a papal visit job fairies said to begin. organizers are looking for security guard to work here during the pope's september trip. philadelphia works will be the host, and the job fair will run from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. inside suburban station at 16th and jfk in center city. they are looking to fill as many as 100 position toss

through the ohio valley and through mid-atlantic. we will be on a close call situation with this and i'll explain. today turning quote unquote cooler upper 80's with the lower humidity. cloud thicken throughout our thursday mid 80's and most of our computer guidance is suggesting that this storm system primarily hits from philadelphia on south. so further north you travel, you might end up with a dry friday but regardless i would allow for some rain, especially for philly on south. we are going to be at most prominent in terms of the rainfall coverage. clearing skies for first half of the weekend and continues to get brighter with time, nice couple days coming up and today one of them. 89 degrees. we will drop down in the upper 60's pretty comfortable if you want to forgo air conditioning. they have been cranking and doing hard work last couple days. and even by friday with that storm passing by to the south we are still only expecting to flirt with 80's. cool down begins as of today

money watch's hanna daniels joins us from the the new york stock exchange. we're hearing netflix has great news for people/employees thinking of starting a family. what are they changing. >> reporter: good morning, erika. to improve competitive position in hiring employees netflix will offer unlimited paternity and maternity leave to all of its workers. company policy will allow new parents to take off as much time as they want during the first year after a child birth or adoption, and still get paid for that year. erika. >> and get paid, wow how about that. also many earnings have come out including cvs health who stopped selling tobacco products. some people thought it would affect the bottom line. how are they doing. >> reporter: it really hasn't. pricey specialty drugs are helping cvs help cope with tobacco withdrawal. drugstore chain says earnings jumped in the second quarter in large part because of the

we will check on the roads with meisha. happy wednesday meisha. >> happy wednesday erika and all of you at home if you are just waking up with us, it is early, we certainly appreciate you with us. we have plenty of headlights but still very, very dark and of course, we have what we think might be penndot pulled off to that right shoulder again not causing any slow downs. this usually starts to pick up around 5:30 hour but i want to show you this because there is still plenty of headlights out there we have i-95 northbound between bartram and airport exit. you can see the cones are kind of in the center lane but just blocking far right lane and then you cannot exit that airport exit. just so you know two driving

lanes on i-95 northbound you you cannot exit the airport from that stretch. more construction off ramp from i-95 northbound to cottman is closed until 5:00 a.m. hopefully real soon that gets figured out. also 95 north bound off ramp to cottman closed. we have an accident in bucks county warwick township at york road is closed both directions between valley road and sugarbottom road. would i use alternate, one i would tell to you use is easton road. we have an accident there. then going to our wide we can see everyone traveling at posted speeds. the it will be i have a good feeling about this one i think it will be a good hump day. we don't have wet roadways. >> that is always on our side, right? anytime we can start off on a dry note and promise it will stay that way throughout the day. but, it is all out to sea. that mess is in longer our problems. let me take you outside first and information mess to the quick view of storm scan where we had heavy duty

thunderstorms through last night and portions of southwestern new jersey. clearly those have all had a chance over three hour loop to go way out to sea. our frontal boundary is dropping, drift ago way from our area, and we are seeing thermometer respond to it efficiently here. in mount pocono we are in the 50's with skies, that have cleared, due points have dropped and right now still very mild, granted in philadelphia but it does feel a little bit more comfortable. we are at 57 degrees territory in quakertown. cooler in pottstown doylestown so from north to south that cooler air is taking over as we take a quick peak at that three day forecast. we're expecting heat wave to end but it will be a close call. we need 90 or greater for to us extend that. we will see how we do but this is what we are pegging it at. eighty-nine and sunny and regardless of what the thermometer reads lower humidity for everybody as the day goes on and nice refreshing breeze out of the northwest. the nice summer day, erika. >> thank you.

>> not lag bad at all meisha. we should have a very nice summer afternoon. it will be a warm afternoon. we're expecting upper 80's but we have a couple key factors that are changing with this forecast, namely more refreshing breeze for us and we will have lower humidity. we will start off by going back in time. we were over achievers yesterday, no big deal but we hit 93 degrees. the that made it, the eight 90 plus degree day in our area in philadelphia specifically is what we're tracking here and it does make witt this heat wave we have seen since july 2013. but we are expecting to come close, granted but not quite get to another day for us of 90 plus degree heat. looking at storm can three we had our fair share of thunderstorms through the southern most counties moving out to sea. we are left with nothing more than a few clouds. we're in transition as we see cooler air settle in. here's where our temperatures stand, low to mid 70's f
