3:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. 3:00 a.m. in the western suburbs and that could be serious thunder and lightening action to wake you up out the window overnight. 4:00 a.m., maybe a hint of the bow structure to that line moving through, strong wind cannot be ruled out, heading out down the shore by 6:00 a.m. and clearing off the coast around 8:00 a.m. lingering showers for morning commute. heavier first batch moves off the coast by noon but watch what happens, another round of the scattered showers and storms with localized downpours. by far worst of it is overnight tonight but could still see storms in the afternoon. so again what to expect, overnight into tuesday, scattered showers, early and then heavy rain and then are storms between 3:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. downpours, wind, lightening and thunder, ponding on the road and slow travel even if the rain ended by the time you head out, the road will be wet and the spray could slow things down. temperatures in the 70's right now. it has been a cool evening thanks to the marine influence, cool south east breeze that has taken over the

at area a as we await the warm front. your first forecast stays generally dry through the early part of tonight, just a couple stray showers here and there. about two or 3:00 a.m. that the heavier rain moves in and it will be a messy tuesday. i do have some good news in the forecast and i will have that coming up with the seven day, for now, back inside to you. >> thanks, kate. in the news tonight a 12 year-old boy is air lifted to a hospital after an accident on the beach in surf it is i. chopper three over 17th street beach where we're told the boy was trapped when a sand hole collapsed around him. life guard and another beach goers reportedly pulled the boy out of the hole and bystanders performed cpr. he was air lifted to cooper hospital and we are work to go find out how he is doing right now. meanwhile a shut down of the sands in south jersey, a popular beach is close due to the dangerous drop off caused by beach erosion. that was after a multi million-dollar replenish. project in the off season. it all happened on the north end of the avalon.

that is beaches right here between ninth street all the way down, to 24th street, they were closed by beach patrol due to dangerous condition. "eyewitness news" reporter charlotte hoffman headed down short to get a closer look at the situation. >> reporter: erosion has left behind dangerous cliff that is covered a mile of avalon's north shoreline and forced beach patrol to shut down parts of the north end until crews finished regrading the sand early monday morning. >> i didn't see anybody fall in but i was like always look for it, wait for it. >> reporter: marie robbotched watched the erosion happen. >> i was out at low tied early, and came back to the afternoon. >> reporter: this is what robb and others saw, a a 5-foot drop off. >> it was as tall as me. it was just a cliff. it the is just a wall of sand. >> reporter: avalon just finished a massive beach refill project where they brought in this new sand. check it out this is new sand they brought in. this is all of the old sand what was here were. now what happened is for two days they were persistent

nor'easterly wind which basically came in, sent the waves crashing into all this new sand and sending it down south. now question becomes, how will avalon officials get the sand back in play. >> any sand that was displaced by natural wind will line up on south end beaches and avalon progressed to the point we need projects in the winter where we take san in the north end that washes to the south and mechanically relocate it back to the north end where it belongs. >> reporter: public works employees were out here early this morning regrading and knocking down those steeper cliffs to make it safe for beach goers. now they say, all of the beaches are back opened. in avalon i'm charlotte huffman for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". some are getting a second chance when it comes to septa passes for regional rails during the pope's visit. if you won in the first round and didn't pay up by 3:00 p.m. today your tickets are headed to someone else. the those people will be notified by e-mail starting tonight.

on the healthwatch tonight pennsylvania continues to lead the nation in confirmed cases on have lyme disease for three straight years and it is not just a problem for people, dogs can be also a affected. >> health report are stephanie stahl is here with more on the threat to our pets.

stephanie, this is something to get nervous about. >> reporter: i know, lyme disease in dogs can cause serious problems. dogs and people can suffer with similar symptoms, associated with lyme disease. it is estimated 13 percent of dogs in pennsylvania have been infect with lyme disease about there is a vaccine for our four legged friends. tiny deer tics that cause lyme disease can be tiny and difficult to find on dogs and most dogs exposed don't have symptoms. those who do get sick from the tics by the can run range from mild to severe. vets say young dogs appeared to be more susceptible. >> painful in all you will four limbs, you know, not eating, owner says just in the himself the past few days. fever of 105, you know, very, very sick dogs. >> reporter: people cannot get lime disease directly from a pet but tics that carry bacteria can bite, infect bet dogs and humans. there is a lyme vaccine for

dogs developed from a human vaccine that is no longer available for people because of complications. >> it seems to be very, very safe. people and dogs are quite different. >> reporter: k-9 lyme vaccine is a two year shot in puppies. >> actually anti bodies in my dog's bloodstream that goes in the tics and prevent it from ever going into the dog. >> reporter: vaccine is used in conjunction with routine tic prevention for dogs. >> a lot of people are thinking it can take place of prevention, which it definitely cannot. >> reporter: lyme disease is diagnosed in both dogs and humans with a blood test and both are treated with antibiotics but there can be chronic issues related to lyme disease. this is something that is a big problem right now. everybody is outside enjoying this nice weather in the woods especially. you have to watch out. these tics are hard to see. >> very hard to see. it might field like a lump. >> yes.

>> absolutely. faa is up investigating four reported drone sightings near newark airport yesterday. four commercial flights reported seeing the drone near the approach of the runway, none of the flight had to's evasive action and all landed safely. federal authority were already looking into similar drone sightings from pilots landing at jfk airport last week. well, it could soon cost you more to make a trip across the the tacony palmyra and burlington bristol bridge. >> burlington county bridge commission is holding first of two public hearings tonight on a proposed toll increase. another one tomorrow and a vote is expected on wednesday. currently the toll is $2 a car. e-z pass users would see toll rise to $3, cash users will see it rise to $4.

you will be in luck tonight. we do have chance for lightening, thunder and strong gusty wind as well. lets look outside where people are enjoying a cool day down the shore. not the best beach day but it is a great day to be on the boardwalk with some shopping. day down the shore you have to put on the sweat shirt and head to the boardwalk, down to the washington street mall there in cape may. or just walking around the local, side streets, and stone harbor is a good one to do some shopping. stock up on maybe a few sweat shirts later on in the week. by end of the week things look great. if this is your week down the shore today an anomaly. but wednesday, thursday, friday you will be loving the weather at the shore. lets look the a the few live neighborhood network cameras as well. we will have a flat gray cloudy sky as we look from the palmyra cove nature park, delaware river, matching the the sky here, glummy this afternoon. little break have blue sky here and there. kutztown area middle school. gray skies moving through.

middletown ship high school in cape may courthouse cloud, a few breaks of blue but glummy just about every where today. for the most part it is dry. heavier rain back to the west, we will see heavier showers and storms. ohio, west virginia, a lot of real estate between us and these storms. they will in the come through until overnight hours so that is good news. bad news its it is still cloudy and a couple of spotty sprinkles in montgomery county and in the city at the moment. these are not heavy, few rain drops here and there sprinkle or two walking around this evening. thanks to the gray skies, wind off the ocean, cloud cover and sprinkles it has been very cool. only 72 in reading. chilly fall-like 66 in mount pocono. seventy-six in philadelphia 75 . today coolest day since the fourth of july. do you remember of the july, gray, cloudy, showers. it felt like today. today temperatures not much better than that 74 degrees. timing this out by 2:00 a.m. these strong storms move in

the far western suburbs. expect them overhead, about 4:00 a.m. some strong gusty winds, frequent lightening as well and heavy rain with these storms. then they will head down the shore by 8:00 a.m. scattered showers during morning commute and watch for slow downs and wet roads out you the there it looks like a dry time frame at noon but another round of scattered showers and storms pops up in the afternoon. anyone of these with the yellow shading could produce localized downpours. definitely worst will be overnight in the early morning hours but don't count out tomorrow afternoon. could slow you down on both. skipping ahead zooming out that front moves off shore wednesday 7:00 a.m. looking good but wednesday is one of those days transition day as that cool dryer air pushes in we will get instability showers and that is what you see here. can't rule out stray sprinkle on wednesday. thursday high pressure really gains foot hold and looks like a beautiful day. as far as timing showers and storms between three and 7:00 a.m. half inch to an inch of rain. watch for scattered but locally strong thunderstorms in the the afternoon. four different models here to

see how much rain we will get and anywhere from half inch to inch and a half of rain depending where you are overnight and tomorrow afternoon and margin of risk for severe thunderstorms, gusty wind and small hail biggest threat overnight and tomorrow afternoon. we have showers and storms lingering all day long. hour by hour looking to get outside tomorrow noon probably the best chance to keep it dry. then another chance for thunderstorm by 3:00 p.m. here is you're witness weather seven day forecast and shore cast which looks better by middle and end of the week. eighty-two tomorrow with the cloud, showers, storms. wednesday lower humidity. still unsettled day, could be a stray sprinkle, cloud may try to hang on, breezy day but not bad at all. thursday is my winner of the week at 84 with sunshine. friday last good and then looking for another hot summer weekend we have got that for you. we're 90 saturday and sunday. >> make no mistake, summer is still in full swing.
