. from the cbs3 broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". good morning.lphia. it is tuesdayings august 11th, i'm erika von tiehl. a new poll of new jersey voters may be bad news for governor chris christy. we'll tell you what the poll said. the tracy mortgage crash is the subject of a federal meeting in washington today. we'll have details on what the nationals transportation safety board is looking into. first those roads are wet and soggy out there this morning. possibly storms coming. >> that said out there. >> it is a mess out there. honestly. that is an under statement i'll have the updates.

i'm sweating. >> that will make for a messy drop, stay tuned for her report. we are got to get you out the door. it's going to be a rough start. when it comes to the weather, i come bearing better news down the road. this is going to be one of those all day events unfortunately. looks as though we start off with heavy rain initially. likely at least a little bit of a break at mid day, then additional thunderstorms that fire up for your afternoon and evening drive. let's start off by taking you outside. show you scattered storm sstorm scan, tracking the active weather, the heavy rain is most confined at this point. sort of a vertical line here from say 95, the jersey turnpike right through central and eastern new jersey, and then down into as you say sex county. the brunt has essentially moved through philadelphia. you're clearly not out of the woods just yet. you still got moisture to work with on storm scan. we look at this at a wider zoom and put things into motion you got to get a cold front and that said going to take time.

we got time to kill in other words before that can happen. for now, we got to allow for a shower or thunderstorm at any time through the mid day but it will be at it is worst in terms of the heaviest rain right now up until the end, go figure of the typical morning drive. with the downpours, the gusty winds and also paneleding on the roadways, it is already slowing you down, again, stick around for the report. . but let me show you the current wind speeds. seeing is pretty stiffened decent breezes anywhere from ten to 15 plus miles per hour in most locations, it's not only rainy but plus ri, and that and that means your umbrella is going to fly around as you're walking from car to office. as the day progresses around the reach as a whole, we are expecting the rain to happen, heaviest this morning, but then some more thunderstorms later on on today, so not much of a break here but thrift the heaviest stuff scheming coming down for now. >> we just have to smile. got to get over it somehow.

good morning, happy tuesday, it's been a very busy morning in the world of traffic. as you're heading out the door, the roadways are extremely wet. give yourself couple extra minutes, and for the first time i'm going to say this, even when you can drive posted speeds, you might not want to. this is what we have an accident, a car spun out. flooding in the far right lane, the schuylkill expressway eastbound between 30th street and south street. i would use an alternate like the vine, 295 if you can. slippery in this stretch, you can see lanes starting to open now. also an accident, jackknife tractor-trailer pulled all the way off to the shoulder, which is good, all lanes were blocked westbound. the schuylkill expressway near south street, traffic is being diverted to grays ferry exit, you can see this. what a mess this is. looking like a parking lot here. use an alternate if you can. if you're just using 95 to the vine what i would suggest. also another accident here, another tractor-trailer. the pennsylvania turnpike westbound between delaware valley and street road, so use

caution in that area as well overall give yourself a couple extra minutes, erika over to you. >> thank you. philadelphia businesses worried about how pope francis's visit will affect them? we'll get to a to sit down with city leaders, jan carabeo joins us overlooking the ben franklin parkway, where the pope will celebrate mass. >> reporter: good morning. you would think that center city businesses would be clam erring to capitalize on pope's visit. he's expected to bring more than a million people to the parkway in that last week of is he not. many businesses have many concerns. many security and safety concerns. how they're even just going to get their employees to work on that very busy weekend. "eyewitness news" has learn that city officials plan on meeting with these business owners to address some of these issues. >> juice bar in center city has a prime location for pope francis's visit in september, just blocks away from the art museum. these seats are poison poiseed to be packed, many who work here

would rather see the doors closed during the much anticipated papal visit. >> too much for our customers to come in and get the deliveries out, and it's going to be too high security for. >> reporter: road closures have plots concerned. last week, philadelphia announced that the ben franklin bridge would close for the pope, and officials detailed streeksdz in and around the now famous traffic box, mayor michael nutter sets city is trying to release as much information as it can, as as soon as it can, for businesses can plan accordingly. >> of course we want businesses to be open. we're open welcoming city. >> reporter: touch end "eyewitness news" learned city plan on meeting with businesses soon to address mounting concern. the details of those meetings have not yet been released. nuter says it looks like decisions to stay open will have to be made on a business by business basis. >> we have an incredible opportunity to highlight the city of philadelphia. there will be some inconvenience

dozen people who blocked traffic. earlier, hundreds of protesters marched in st. louis leaving a sign that read racism still lives here. monday night was the fourth consecutive night of protests marking the anniversary of the death of michael brown who was unarm when he was shot and killed by a white police officer. >> i just really wish we had peace. we don't need this. no one needs this. it's not just the police officers i'm concerned about. i'm concerned about everyone. >> a demonstration the same location sunday night was interrupted by gunfire. police shot and critically wounded an 18-year-old accused of opening fire on them. 5:37 right now in business news this morning, very big change for a very big company. money watchers jill wagner joins us the new york stock exchange, what's google up to these days? >> good morning, start with the markets rallied to start the week. the dowel gained 241 points

. here's a look at today's headlines on cbs3, the search on for the driver responsible for a hit-and-run in glassboro. police say it happened around 1:20 this morning on quincy court. victim suffered a head injury. two dozen people under arrest in demonstrations in ferguson missouri, the protests surrounded the anniversary of the shooting death of michael brown.

you've got rainfall amounts right now coming into us from kathy, she's in wenonah, new jersey, so far she's recorded over an inch of rain at her location. 71 degrees the temperature there and she definitely had, you know, a lot of moving through already. finding some of the brunt of that moving east of her area, due point at 70. it's a saturated air marks you're going to get a lot of moisture coming out of that sky. clouds ringing themselves out. meanwhile, ron russell checks in at 69 degrees. he's seen just high half inch of rain where he is, one more 70 degrees came in from sandra and she too in burlington finding the rain as you might imagine. she has soak rain as well with a eventually scattered thunderstorms later today and that's what we'll be tracking across the board through at the afternoon, we need this whole front to get out of here before we can say, ok, we're clearing out, we're drying out. going to take some time back edges way back here towards the border of ohio. until all of this tracks through, you're going to have to dodge a couple of scattered showers or storms, brunts of

rain out there now, but we're going to have to deal with additional wet weather as the day goes on. mid day you're going to catch little bit of break here, through the second half of the afternoon, scattered and locally gusty or heavy thunderstorms are still the storks i would really say both commutes affected. we're bearing the brunt of a morning drive for sure. again this is basically an all day 18. by tomorrow, clear out maybe left over showers, thursday looks awesome going to start heating things up, flirting or actually hitting 90 by the tail he wanted over the 7-day. misha over to you. >> grab your pen and paper, your traffic teacher is in and i got notes for you. let me tell you, we're going to go right out there. there's a lot. this is where a car spun out schuylkill expressway eastbound between 30th street and south street that has since been cleared. however you can see in that far right lane, there is flooding, travelers trying to maneuver around that water to try not go over it. car just spun out there. i would avoid that lane if i were you as well. also here's another accident jackknife tractor-trailer all

you do want to take it easy. it is tuesday august 11th i'm erika von tiehl. check in with two busy ladies misha and katie. >> i think it's sometimes easy to under estimate how wet roadways can slow down a commute. today is not one of those days, give yourself extra time for sure. >> i know you've already had a lot of incidents, misha going on out there. weather related, we really have been hit hard so far this morning. with very, very soak rain. some instances from some of our "eyewitness news" weather watchers we're getting reports at least half inch plus even in some spots picked up an inch from this. we're looking at a three-hour loop here of the pounding rain that came through and still continues tads, but there's obviously a pocket where you're dealing with the heaviest stuff and at this point, the good news is, it's starting to move out to sea, so if you're maybe down the shore watching us, you're probably still stuck in the really heavy stuff a
