terribly muggy that's what's changing for us and the game danger as a result for us as we kick start this week. so we mentioned it is likely to be the hot defendant day in the stretch of 90 plus degrees days. we already have hit two days into the 90s over the course of the weekend so today will officially make eight heat wave for you here as well. and in the meantime, because it's getting kind of stagnant outside, we do actually have air quality alert that's in effect for you. let's actually we'll start things off that air quality alert basically extending through the central sliver if you will of the delaware valley. actually noticing that portions of the shore towns for example not included here. you've actually got a hint of a breeze there just take it easy when you walk out the door today. if you've got to be out during this afternoon, you want to take care of yourself here. storm scan3 that's totally empty we still got high pressure on our side look how it already feels. our actual air temperatures guys are generall generally into thes around the city. it feels 10 degrees hotter than that. you have to factor in those dew

in washington, d.c. there was another that is set for new york city. stevie is announcing the fall leg of his "songs in the lee kind of performance" tour. we'll will be for today's concert we'll have the highlights for you today on "eyewitness news" beginning at 5:00 o'clock. well bus delays leave dozens of passenger stranded in philadelphia overnight. what caused the hold um. jan carrabeo went looking for answers in center city. >> reporter: frustration for many greyhound passengers at the tenth filbert street station in center city philadelphia sunday night into monday morning. dozens were forced to make themselves comfortable for hours after at least one bus was delayed by what greyhound is calling a lack of resources. >> at least, you know, make some kind of announcement of what is throwing down. >> reporter: charles may needed to get to pittsburgh for a funeral. he was one out of about 40 passengers delayed on that route. greyhound released a statement saying the original driver didn't have the necessary hours

to safely make the trip. they had to find another driver. there has been increase in demand from the philadelphia market the statement reads in part, therefore from time to time we contract with rental companies to provide buses in order to cover this demand, and rental company failed to show up this weekend. we are currently look nothing why this happened ". but the problems didn't end there. some passengers say there was an unexplained hours long delay on one bus to new york city and one woman trying to get to virginia was actually bumped from her bus because it was over booked greyhound said it's still investigating these incidents. >> i will never get there if i rely on this. >> reporter: cynthia roller and her four kids were heading to ohio for a family vacation when their midnight bus hadn't come by 6:00 a.m. she gave up. >> they had said the bus driver they can't find one. he's on his way. two hours later, oh, we can't find a bus driver, um, you have to sit and be patient. >> reporter: passengers who paid with credit cards were able to get their money back right a way but greyhound employees say

those who paid with cash had to wait because the company doesn't keep enough cash for refunds at the station at that hour. just one more inconvenience during an already long night. in center city jan carrabeo cbs3 "eyewitness news". a man is rush to the hospital after getting hit by a car in center city. this happened shortly after 7:00 this morning near broad and arch streets. the driver who hit the pedestrian did remain at the scene. the victim's condition is unknown at this point. the intersection was blocked for a short while while police investigated but it is now back open. a dump truck is sideswiped sending it sliderring on its side. across i-95 southbound in delaware. the delaware state police zen us these pictures. take look. it happened near churchmans road right before exit 4a. two left lanes were closed for awhile this morning. they are open right now. no word on any injuries. well, we are 40 days from the visit of pope fran sit and today we are learning that the church group from north jersey that is staying at the philadelphia zoo they're going

to camp out there for the entire weekend of the papal visit will have that a traction all to themselves. the zoo just announced that it will be closed on september 26th and 27th. zoo personnel also be staying on site throughout that the weekend to handle animal care as well as facility and safety needs. the zoo plans to reopen on monday september the 28th although the exact time of that has not been decided. and we encourage to you stay with us here on "eyewitness news" for continuing coverage as we prepare for the rifle pope francis and the world meeting of families. we have much more coming up for you today on "eyewitness news" at 5:00 o'clock. turning now to campaign 2016. gop presidential front runner donald trump is taking a break from the campaign trail to report for jury duty. correspondent craig boswell tells us while trump is riding high at the top of the latest polls other contenders are gaining ground. >> reporter: donald trump has taken time off from campaigning

to perform his civic duty, he arrived at a lower manhattan courthouse early in the morning for jury duty. >> something we have to do. >> reporter: trump gave specifics about one of his biggest issues this past weeke weekend. immigration games as president trump says he would triple the number immigration officers, build a wall along the mexican border and even strip the citizenship of people born in the u.s. to parents who are here illegally. >> it appeals to people who are at the harshest most restriction any of the ideas about immigration in america. so for the people who like donald trump and found that appealing in his rhetoric before he now has policy to that backs up rhetoric. >> reporter: latest national polls from knocks news shows trump far ahead in the field with 25% of pondents backing him. a number of other populous candidates are also on the rise including ben carson, ted cruz, mike huck today guy and carli fee or recent in a. jeb bush has been losing ground in the polls. a super pack supporting bush announced a 10 until i don't know dollars ad buy this week

glenn i want to win. >> reporter: the ads will begin airing in early voting states such as iowa and new hampshire in mid september and will run through december. craig boswell for cbs3 "eyewitness news". more than 80 wildfires tearing through the west enfor enforcing thousands of people from their properties. 10 firefighters were injured in california. dozens of homes were destroyed in washington state. correspondent danielle nottingham is there as flames surround a community of shell land washington. >> severe drought is scorching heat have turned much of the western u.s. into a tinder box. in central washington, crews are struggling to control several wildfires. at least six have surrounded the city of shellland where 1500 people have been forced to evacuate. >> the sheriff is coming around get out now, get attaint, get attaint! >> reporter: close to 50 homes have been destroyed and that number could sky rocket. >> it was pretty scary. i never seen a storm of fire storm like this travel this fa

fast. >> reporter: more than 700 firefighters have poured into the area armed with air tankers dumping fire retardant. >> it was a panic zone but still, you know, we had enough time. people coming up and just telling hey, man it's heading your way, get out. >> reporter: at least two more wildfires sparked in california on sunday. super scooping planes picked up water near these beach goers to help fight the lincoln fire outside of los angeles. sunday's flames in southern california burned down several structures and left 10 firefighters injured. calmer winds in the area should help firefighters stay ahead of the fast-moving flames. daniel nottingham at cbs news, she willland washington. >> a man has been arrested for the murder of actor morgan freeman's depth granddaughter. ma very davenport is accused of

of stabbing her outside of her manhattan apartment building yesterday. davenport and heinz were in a relationship. some of heinz own neighbors witnessed that killing. >> he was like kneeling over here screaming about god has arisen. i mean he was totally off the wrench. >> in in statement free man said the world will never know her artis tee and talent and how much she had to offer. her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. the wife of former naacp chairman julian bond says that her husband will be cream mated and his ashes scattered over the gulf of mexico. bond died on saturday in fort walnut beach, florida. he was 75 years of age. his cause of death is not yet known although his wife does say that bond had circumstance queue la tower problems. a trailblazer in the civil rights movement, bond worked side by side with dr. martin luther king, jr. funeral plans are still pending.

west oxford street in north philadelphia. philadelphia firefighters responded to the area about half hour ago for reports of a person shot. medic transport add 28-year-old man to temple university hospital for burns and a four story fall after the initial shock. we will stay on top of this developing story for you and pass it along any other updates as we learn them and you can get updates any time at cbsphilly.com. we are now seeing surveillance video of that moment that a huge explosion tour through bangkok, thailand. it happened near hindu shrine and authorities are saying more than dozen people were killed. and the death toll is expected to rise. investigators are saying that there were two bombs but just one detonated. police did cordoned off that area while they diffused that remaining bomb. and the explosions that destroyed a warehouse district in the chinese port city of could be among the world's deadliest disasters for fire crews.

at least 21 firefighters were killed and scores morey main missing. more than 100 civilians were killed. there are questions now though if the crews were properly trained to handle the warehouse's toxic chemicals. many of which became combustible on contact with water. well bad weather is hampering efforts to locate the wreckage of a passenger plane in indonesia. correspondent hannah daniel updates us on the plane that went missing yesterday with 49 passengers and five crew members on board. >> reporter: a mid fog and rain, rescue teams in indonesia tried navigating dense forests and high mountains trying to make their way to the site where air service plane is believed to have crash. earlier today, search crews spotted smoke and wreckage that most likely belongs to the twin turboprop proper. plane had taken off on a 42 minute journey from west capitol to the see of oaks bill when it disappeared sunday in bad weather. relatives of some of the 54

missing people on board gathered at the airport looking for information. it was founded in 1991 the airline logged 14 serious incidents and written off 10 aircraft as beyond repair. it's now one of a number of indonesian airlines barred from flying through the united states and europe. >> their operations there safety oversight their maintenance, they're training, their entire infrastructure is clearly less than adequate. >> reporter: sunday's crash is the latest in a string of aviation disasters in southeast asia. last december, 162 people aboard an air asian jet traveling to singapore were killed when the plane plummeting into the java sea. malaysian airlines flight 370 vanished in march of 2014. so far only part of the wing has been found. what happened to the 239 people on that flight remains a myste mystery. hannah daniels for cbs3 "eyewitness news". still ahead here on "eyewitness news" this noon, a

kenyan barner that went into yards for a touchdown and a touchdown run by backup quarterback tim tebow. they got everybody moving. eagles gone on to win, 36-10. we like that kind of score. eagles host the baltimore ravens in preseason game two saturday night at the linc. and flyers fans danny briere announced his retirement. he played for 17 years, 973 games in the nhl. he almost came through in the clutch in the playoffs. you can remember '0 '07-'08 he helped the flyers rebound from the worse season ever to take them to the eastern conference finals. and then in 2010-2011 his best season as a flyer he helped the team get to the east conference semi finals. briere says he wants to spend more time with his family but he will always be a flyer in our hearts. >> so a steamy, steamy, steamy day. >> how are you handling it. >> not terribly. i'm a fan of the air-condition

air-conditioner. >> i just try to stay inside as much as possible where there's climate control of some kind studios is great for that. yes it is definitely brutal outside. thankfully not brutal enough that it's promming any kind of excessive heat warnings. nothing like that. but it is the kind of heat that you want to take seriously if you'll be out any time in the next couple of hours. this is where the peak of the heat will take place here today. and we keep this going for a few more days. as well my friends. let's walk you through what's going on with this pattern. pretty simple. high pressure going to continue to be our theme here for the next couple of days. eventually, let's zoom it out one time, shall we? you can see a line of rain and clouds that's moving through iowa, portions of the midwest, that is actually our next frontal boundary it looks like it only has, what, maybe a day and a half britt arrives but this is a very sluggish system going to take its time so all we do in the meantime is build up heat and build up moisture in the atmosphere. now today as we mentioned earlier like the hottest day of the neck several.

but even though we start to see a few more clouds the next couple of days it's getting soupy outside that thickness that you get when you get really humid air you'll notice when you walk out the door. in the next couple of days. so tomorrow you get that. wednesday you'll get that. and that front meanwhile creeps every closer with time. now, that said i can see spotty shower our thunderstorm maybe as early as tomorrow night or wednesday. not a huge deal. looks like thursday ends up being our wettest day of the forecast which we'll get to in the seven day. look at how this moisture content makes it feel by the time we hit thursday. i mean humid or steamy no matter how you slice it it's starting to get more and more oppressive with every passing day here. as that moisture content builds so temperatures a aside you have to throw them out and just gauge based on what the actual feels like value s we'll always bring that to you when it's warranted. meanwhile let's talk tropics very quickly at the moment no major threat but there is about a 50/50 shot this area of showers and storms just off the coast of africa so we're talking
