"eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson has been tracking the very latest from the 39th district where the 10 year veteran officer was stationed. steve. >> reporter: and, natasha, philadelphia police say we may never get a complete picture of what happened saturday night to cause that accident. there were no witnesses so far, no surveillance video and police have yet to track a time line of where the sergeant was coming from or headed to, what is known is that by all accounts he was a considerate father of two and a respected philadelphia police officer. it remains largely a mystery. >> speculate why. we just don't know. but we know it's a sad event. >> reporter: so far just speculation thoughts and theories from accident investigators. the question what caused 32-year-old philadelphia police sergeant rafael ali to lose control of his vehicle. >> we're at a loss to understand really what happened in them couple seconds. we don't know. >> reporter: police i was

ali was off duty driving on henry avenue around 1145 police say he lost control of his dodge ram and struck a tree. a short time later he was pronounced dead at the hospital. so far investigators are saying speed likely played a role and alcohol likely did not. >> speed was a major cause of the crash. >> he was a nice guy. always nice, always polite, always spoke and he would help you out if you asked. >> reporter: meanwhile in ali's neighborhood people who knew the 10-year veteran and father of two in mourning. >> he was a good man, family man. >> you know, sad to hear what happened to him. >> reporter: investigators now say the speculation ranges from the possibility that he fell asleep at the wheel to texting to possibility of an undisclosed medical condition. investigators are awaiting an autopsy so they can hopefully fill in shot blanks in thi -- sf

the blanks. steve patterson cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> a south jersey teen is recovering after an accidental shooting in his home. authorities say two friends of the 17-year-old boy brought a gun to his mount laurel home on saturday night and it accidentally discharged while they were handling it. the boy was struck in the chest. the two friends both teens from new jersey fled the home with the gun but were later found in the area. they both face weapons charges. now, turning to our weather where you couldn't have asked for a more perfect weekend. temperatures warm today, actually a little bit above average but there's no humidity outside and still that's the story tonight t and it's really nice. a few clouds to talk about. there are the highs today. made it to 87 degrees at philadelphia international airport. cooler up northwest toward the lehigh valley. lower 80's in allentown and in reading, mid 80's down t at the shore. a nice day across the delaware valley. 73 in mount pocono to 84 degrees in philadelphia. wilmington you guys are still checking in at 80. it's still nice down towards the shore, breeze coming in out of the north to northeast keeping temperatures in the mid to upper 70's to lower 80's. now still the key here is that dewpoint temperature like yesterday, it's low. right now it's it's a 49 degrees. so how does that feel to you? pretty much awesome. you don't see this a lot in the month of august. storm scan3 shows those mid to high level clouds passing by. that's an indication of there's the next storm system that's on the way over the next 24 to 48 hours. we'll talk about that in a little bit. enjoy tomorrow. again partly sunny skies.

it does warm up, a little more humid, 89 for philadelphia, low 80's at the shore, near 80 degrees at the poconos. coming up in the full forecast, we'll talk about that humid monday and the next chance for a shower or a storm. more details on that in a few more minutes. natasha, we'll send it back to you. >> justin thank you so much. a terror take down. three americans who helped stop a gunman opening fire on a high speed train overseas held a joint press conference today. cbs news correspondent brian webb has more. >> reporter: three americans who tackled an armed gunman on a high speed train in belgium last week were reunited in paris sunday. u.s. airman spencer stone national guardsman alex skarlatos and anthony sadler were hailed as heroes during a meeting. they risked their lives to disarm a gunman who french media reports in this photo, a visibly injured stone recalled the moment he sprang into action on the amsterdam to par his bounds train.

>> looked like it was jammed or it wasn't working and he was trying to discharge the weapon and alex hit me on the shoulder and said let's go. >> reporter: skarlatos says his initial action was out of gut instinct. >> i feel our training kicked in after the assailant was already subdued. >> reporter: cell phone video shows the 26-year-old moroccan man hog tied on the ground. officials uncovered an arsenal of weapons. sadler believes there's a lesson to be learned from the ordeal. >> the gunman would have been successful if my friend spencer had not gotten up in times of like peril like that to please do something. don't just stand by and watch. >> reporter: brian webb for cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> well, police are investigating an overnight shooting in north philadelphia that left two men injured. police say officers heard multiple shots near the 1300 block of perry street about 2:15 this morning. they noticed a bmw speeding from the scene and later found that car at presbyterian

hospital along with the victim. police say a 27-year-old man is in critical condition. a 23-year-old man is stable. and a 24-year-old man is recovering after being stabbed in the feltonville section of philadelphia. police say the man was stabbed in the neck around 7:30 this morning on the 4600 block of g street. he was taken to temple hospital where he's in stable condition. so far no arrests have been made in this case. and now to campaign 2016. new jersey governor chris christie made an appearance on face the nation this morning. while christie has had some trouble gaining traction in the polls, he took on republican front runner donald trump's plan for immigration. >> in many ways it's just too simplistic. you know, the idea of, you know, building a wall, kicking everybody out and ending birth right citizenship, all sounds, you know, appealing in some respects to some folks but i just think it's a very complicated problem and it needs someone who understands how to do a complicated and

>> an animal rescue group in delaware county is spreading a very important message to stop bullying. "eyewitness news" at marple sports area in broomall. hundreds came out to celebrate the release of a book backyards bullies. they want to educate kids early about bullying. the event included skating face painting a magician an lot more fun. now going green in southwest philly and we're not talking about cheering for the eagles. "eyewitness news" at the philadelphia montessori charter school as volunteers transform 10,000 square feet of asphalt into a community garden and green pages it includes a labyrinth garden orchard among other things. the philadelphia 76ers

held their inaugural camden youth basketball clinic. the clinic is designed to improve basketball skills, childhood fitness nutrition and wellness. eight to 900 kids aged 10 to 14 all took part while 76ers staff front office personnel dancers even players helped out. >> we're doing everything from basketball clinics to working with our dance team, to finding out new ways and new methods of nutrition, so we're trying give them a full encompassed camp. >> future clinics will be held at the sixers new training complex in camden when it is completed. berks county's own taylor swift is at it again with the help of another locally grown superstar out in los angeles last night. kobe bryant took to the stage with swift to help unveil a banner in her name in the rafters of the staples center. after she performs her five straight shows this week, she will hold the record for most

sold out performances in the arena's 15 year history with 16, the same number of championships the lakers have. now, visitors to the please touch museum were transported to a galaxy far, far away today. it was the museum's annual star wars day today. we love star wars. families were owns courage to dress at their favorite star wars characters while they got to interact with characters from the movie. children were able to take part in many star wars themed activities. looks like they had a lot of fun. where is yoda?s woulwhat's goinn there. this has been the best weekends ever. >> ends of august. labor day weekend two weeks away. >> so soon. i don't want to see it go. >> doesn't feel like summer right now but we'll bring back a little heat tomorrow and a chance for a shower or thunderstorm as well. let's take you to the shore. get it in now, enjoy it as the season is winding down.

but still great weather to deal with throughout rest of august. even september is nice down the shore. live look at ocean city, jam packed boardwalk, we're in the sunshine, temperatures there still upper 70's to around 80 degrees. how about the month of august? so far it's been a hot one but this weekends really not that bad. wet we had 10 days of 90-degree temperatures or higher. overall the temperatures so far two and a half degrees above average when you average all the numbers together. down in rain full. weekend use it. only .98-inches so far, and our highest temperature for the month 94 degrees. mid 90's coming up in the near future. maybe close to 90 tomorrow but that's about it. then temperatures get knocked down for the end of the week. i'll show that you in the seven day. 70's showing up in berks county, 77 reading, 84 degrees in philadelphia. looks great in south jersey. also in central delaware. dover checking in at 82 degrees. loving these dewpoint temperatures with the low humidity. 40's through the mid-50's, that's real nice and comfortable for the middle and end of august but eye that's going to change a little bit.

when the numbers crank up tomorrow. you can certainly handle it. humidity drops again for pleasant conditions for wednesday and thursday and through the end of the week into next weekend. still quiet on storm scan3. that's compliments of an area of high pressure over us right now. that will slowly drift off shore allowing this next cold front to track eastward and it's goingy going bring a chance for a scattered shower or storm mainly late monday night into tuesday. so, let's time it out for you again. most of your monday stays dry, partly sunny skies, warm, more humid, upper 80's, maybe 90 some inn some spots. front approaches later monday night bringing a chance for a shower or thunderstorm in some spots, maybe a lingering shower early tuesday. then we'll see clearing skies. once in front passes the humidity drops again for the middle of the week. checking the tropics, here's the latest on danny. tropical storm status winds down to 40. now it tracks farther to the south of puerto rico as it heads towards jamaica and weakens into a tropical depression by the middle of the week.

let's bring it back home. talk about our rain chances. 40 percent chances mainly monday night and then early tuesday morning, 40 percent chance again key word here is scattered. not everybody sees it. we'll show you this on our future weather model. nothing happening tomorrow morning so a good ride into work. into the afternoon, partly sunny skies. later at night we could see a scattered shower or thunderstorm this is 11 o'clock showers rolling through the city. still early tuesday morning, 8, 9 o'clock could be a scattered shower in some spots. forecast tonight still on the pleasant side, monday forecast partly sunny, more humid. philadelphia gets up to around 89 degreesly. mid 80's for the suburbs. shore still feeling great with the wind off the water out of the north and then switching southeast. 81 for the air temperature, ocean nice and comfortable at 75 degrees. here we go, the extended forecast warmest day will be tomorrow, 88 degrees and we'll bring it back to the mid 80's on tuesday and wednesday with a lot of sunshine for the end of the week. look at those highs on thursday and friday, only in the low 80's with mostly sunny
