from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". bouncing back, stocks rise at the opening bell after yesterday's wild ride on wall street. good afternoon, everyone, i'm pat ciarrocchi. >> i'm erika von tiehl. invest remembers look to go rebounds from massive losses after yesterday's roller coaster day on wall street. >> the dow jones closed down 588 points yesterday, it was its eighth worse point decline ever. here's a live picture of the big board, which shows, some really big gains, the numbers now, up 345-point.

correspondent jill wagner has the latest for us, from the new york stock exchange. >> what a difference a day makes. the dow shot up more than 300 points, in the first few minutes of trading, tuesday morning. >> i believe the worse is over. we new buyers would come into this market. >> it comes a day after one of the wilds he is rides in wall street history, the dow plunged more than a thousand points, in the opening minute, monday. it recovered almost all of the losses by mid-day, only to drop again. ending the day down, 588 points. >> here on the floor of the new york stock exchange, traders are trying to keep the markets volume at this at this in check. they know more wild swings, could be ahead. >> people need to bear in minds is that we're entering a pretty volatile seasonal period for the markets, september, october. >> earlier today, china's major index tanked again. afterward, regulators there cut interest rates in order to stimulate their slowing

economy. the second largest in the worlds. a slow-down in china is just one. issues concerning investors. falling oil prices, are another. >> crude oil down below 40 bucks a barrel, this is pressuring a lot of energy companies. >> invest remembers also keeping a close eye on federal reserve you have to see if it will riz interest rates when it meets next week. jig wallner, cbs news at the new york stock exchange. in the meantime, instability in the world market has pushed the cost of crude oil below $40 a barrel, and that is leading to lower gas prices. in fact, gasoline prices haven't been this low in the late summer in 11 years. south jersey drivers in some places are seeing prices below $2 a gallon. analysts are predicting prices will continue to fall. >> now, here is a look at the average prices for gallon of regular gasoline in our region. in new jersey, it is 2.28. in pennsylvania, 2.58. and in delaware, drivers are paying an average of 2.37 a gallon. >> well, new noon, new pole is

showing that nearly half of of pennsylvania voters want attorney general kathleen kane to step down. kane facing criminal charges that she leaked secret grand jury information and then lied about it under oath. a quinnipiac university poll finds 49% of those surveyed think that she should resign. even more voters disapprove of the way that kane is handling her job as the state's top prosecutor. 54% disapprove of her performance, 20% approve. >> a new jersey governor and republican presidential hopeful, chris christie, is speaking out today, about his opposition to the iran nuclear deal. the top jewish leaders in the state joined christie for news conference at rutgers university in new brunswick, day one -- they want the democratic us senator cory booker and other state delegates to vote down the deal, which is aimed at cushing iran's nuclear development. congress will vote on that agreement by september 14th. street repair crews are

set to fill assigning hole in the city kensington section that left many without water this morning, the water department says 12-inch main ruptured yesterday, triggering the collapse of a corner at east huntingdon and tulip street. resident also reported gas leaks in that prompted pgw to shut off service. neighbors say, they never expected a tennis ball-size crack to turn into assigning hole, almost as wide as a city block. >> what issues it holds, my grandmother actually called, trying to fill assigning hole, i would never expect it to be that big, just humungous, and deep, and everything affected. >> stupid street to harold remains block by barricades surrounding the sinkhole. residents now awaiting repairs. well, it is a picture perfect tuesday afternoon, "eyewitness news" cameras out at spruce street at the harvard park where the hammocks are swinging and swaying in the breeze. a first look at the forecast, with meteorologist justin drabek.

>> outside the place to be and the over next several days. this is a gift from what we dealt with a few weeks ago with the hot humid air mass. get outside g, enjoy it if you k lots of sunshine around philadelphia, already up to eight a degrees, the current air temperature, but at leagues humidity levels are starting to back down, still in the upper 70s in berks county, 79 in reading, 80 in allentown, low to mid 80s in south jersey, 82 degrees in the capitol city of delaware. the suburbs right now eight a degrees willow grove, mid 80s palmyra, new jersey, so yes, warm afternoon, little more comfortable than yesterday. winds are now shifting out of the west, slightly northwest, so that's going to bring in drier air mass, we are already seeing that with the dew point temperature early this morning, 5:00, dew point of 70, that indicates tropical air mass, now, we are in the upper 50's, so the dry air continues to filter on in, and that will be the trends through the afternoon. really, finding few clouds, across the shore points right now, shower, trying to develop across northern sussex county,

delaware, that could move just south of dover, and in the next half hour but that's about it, colds front will continue to move to the east. slow is your forecast highs today, upper 80s for philadelphia, clearing skies, less humid, that shower chance early at the shore, then some sunshine, looking great, poconos, mid 70s, and i have a great looking seven day forecast as well, i'll show that you coming up in a few more minutes, back to you guys. >> justin, thank you n just about an hour from now, civil lights leaders and elected officials will hold news conference today with the family of new jersey man fatally shot by police. jerome reeves died last december, and after he was shot, by two gloucester county police officers. grand jury decided not to indict, and in addition to news conference, lead letters deliver letter to the new jersey us attorney, in newark, urging a federal investigation of that shooting. well, police need your help in identifying several suspect wanted for a brazen home burglary in west oaklane. two men were seen on surveillance video, using a ladder to gain entry to a home

in the 7900 block of pickering avenue. once inside, police say, the suspect stole jewelry, sunglasses, and a safe, that contained a handgun. they fled in white colored mini-van waiting outside. if you recognize suspect, we ask you to give the police a call. meanwhile, police believe robbery in harrison township is connected to several others in the south jersey area seen pointing at a handgun at teller friday evening, happened at the susquehanna bank on the 600 block of mullica hill road just before 6:00. the suspect is described as a white male, 6 feet tall, with an athletic build. also wearing black glove on his hand. officials say they think he is responsible for other robberies, in harrison township and west depford township. >> the coast guard work to go free a ship that has run a grounds in south jersey, chopper three, over the salem river, across from sandy canal in salem.

328-foot long ship lost power, and propulsion last night about 9:00. the crew of 12 is safe on board, the ship is not leaking fuel. and, there was a fuel leak however this morning, this one in malvern chester county, chopper three over the scene of accident connestoga road and 202. one of the vehicles involved was dump truck that spilled gas, one person was transported to the hospital, there is no word on that person's condition. up a ski scheduled for tomorrow in the death of indy car driver justin wilson. the 37 year old was struck in the head by debris at pocono raceway sunday. lehigh county coroner said he died at an allentown hospital. he leaves behind wife and two daughters. dozens every patients, education advocate on their way to harrisburg. >> urging law makers to pass state budget. buses loaded within the half hour at the united way along the ben franklin parkway.

atlantic. the national hurricane center says, right now, that erika is not a threat, with no watches, or warnings, and effect could still impact the islands, but just watching it churn out at sea right now. back here at home just beautiful day. little muggy but feels so much better throughout. >> here it is our erika sunshine. >> oh,. >> they would name that after you, of course. >> hopefully doesn't do damage, otherwise i don't want the name. >> we'll talk about that, but it is pleasant, feeling the difference outside right now, that will be the trends really through the next several days into the upcoming weekends, so if you have outdoor plans, you are in luck. looks great, probably a lot of people calling out sick this week, from their work. all right, we take you to the shore right now, we woke up, some clouds, few showers, still cloudiness to deal with along the jersey shore and the delaware beaches. but, you know, seeing little sunshine right now. not bad afternoon shaping up here. people out on the board walk, also hitting the beach. looks like most of the wet weather, has moved off shore. so, let's talk about august so far. it started off hot.

and out of 25 days, ten of them had temperatures of 09 degrees or above. now, we hit 89 yesterday. so we didn't get quite there. but, again, nice finish to the month, i think. at least for the rest of the week. talking temperatures actually going little below average. mid 80s for the warm spots right now in philadelphia, and millville, 83, in wilmington, dover, delaware, you guys at 82 degrees, all right, here's how we look at the humidity level. when you have dew points in the 50's, that is when it feels real pleasant, so we have that for philadelphia, north and west. still, some higher dew points, south jersey, as the front lingers over the region, so still little humid. along the coastline, as that front pushes, little farther east, the drier weather will start to work it way back in. maybe a shower, across central delaware, trying to cross the delaware bay over the next hour, that's about it, see large spin, satellite right now, over the great lakes, upper level low pressure system that will track to the north and east. that actually provides some cooler air, once that system starts to move eastward, i'll show you that in the seven day forecast, so here we go, today, clearing skies, especially at the shore, temperatures in the 80s, tomorrow, mostly sunny

conditions, mid 80s once again, low humidity levels. even little cooler on thursday and friday. low 80s for high temperatures, and we will keep it dry nice and pleasant, compliments of this area of high pressure. so that blocks from any major storm system from the developing. we're about three weeks away from the peak of hurricane season, two systems to talk b here is the remnants of danny over puerto rico right now, continues to weaken, but now we will be focusing on tropical storm erika in the strengthening stage, right now, winds at 45 miles per hour, gusting to 60. moving pretty rapidly west at 20. so, heads up into the islands, if you have vacation plans over the next week or so, certainly will be running into some rough weather. the track to the west, eventually northwest, toward the bahamas by the weekends and current forecast does strengthen to category one hurricane, by the ends of the week into the upcoming weekend. back home though this afternoon looks great. clearing skies, maybe some left over cloudiness along the shore points, into tonight. looks great. maybe headed out to the phillies game, pleasant weather, to watch the ballgame

into wednesday, thursday, same deal, lots of sunshine, in our forecast, forecast this afternoon, again, gradual clearing, less humid, 87, it is warm, but it is comfortablement tonight, comfortable open up the windows mostly clear six a for the city even 50's out in the suburbs. check out the phillies forecast, first pitch 7:00 # five wet mets, less humid, eight a degrees, sunshine, clouds, by the ninth inning headed home be about 70 degrees, comfortable right home from the stadium. extended forecast again upper 80s today, drop to the mid 80s wednesday, go full sunshine for the rest of the week, low 80s, thursday, and friday, so that's below average, even temperatures at the shore, take a dive into the upper 70s, but it will feel good with the sunshine, into the weekends, little bit warmer, start to bring back humidity, back to the upper 80s, but just great stretch of august weather ahead. >> feels terrific out there. >> all right, thanks, back with more of "eyewitness news" at noon just after this.
