television this morning. i'm ukee washington. i'm jessica dean. at alleged gunman took his own life as officers closed in and tonight we are learning more about him. "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry is gathering latest developments and she joins us live from the news center. syma? >> jessica and ukee, shooting has shaken many across the country, so many questions, surrounding this incident, why would someone target a news crew live on television. the gunman may have explained his reasons before taking his own life. what started off as a feast tour story turned deadly. a news reporter and cameraman were shot to death during a live report, early this morning in virginia. a woman being interviewed was also wounded. the shooter was caught on video in this freeze frame captured by the photographer's camera as he fell. viewers were shocked and confused. franklin county sheriff bill overton was watching it live. >> i was watching this morning's broadcast and i could not understand really

what was happening, myself at that time. >> reporter: police identified the shooter as vester lee flannigan, who was a former reporter. he was known as bryce williams on air. but officials from the cbs affiliate wdbj7 says he was difficult to work with and caused an incident when he was fired two years ago. >> after many, instances of his anger coming to the fore, we dismissed him. he did not take that well. we had to call the the police to escort him from the building. >> reporter: after the shooting a manhunt ensued involving several law enforcement agencies. while on the run, flannigan tweeted out grievances he had claiming parker made racist remarks, and ward complained about him to human resources. if this story was not gut wrenching enough, flannigan then put video of his shooting on to twitter and facebook. he was apparently recording as he pulled the trigger.

both social networking sites quickly suspended the accounts. after several hours of running from the the authorities, flannigan turned the gun on himself on the side of a virginia highway. he died a short time later at a hospital. abc news says that a man identifying himself as bryce williams, faxed a 23 page document explaining the motive, blaming the church shooting in south carolina. he says that the church shooting was the tipping point but my anger has been building steadily. i have been a human powder keg for a while just waiting to go boom. police are investigating the document, meanwhile, the station is remembering the victims. parker was engaged to an anger at the station who spoke with cbs news. >> i had a habit of always wanting her to text me when she got to work safely. she did so. the last thing she said to me was good night sweet boy. >> woman who was being interviewed is in stable condition. now police are looking into the manifesto and social media

posts as they continue to investigate. live from the news center, syma chowdhry for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". this is just heart breaking, same awd g g anchor, chris hearst is originally from chester county. he tweeted the following comments. we didn't share it publicly but allison and write very much in love. we just moved in together. i am numb. he says we were together almost nine months. it was the best nine months of our lives. we wanted to get married. we just celebrated her 24th birthday. he also posted these photos to facebook but tweets continue. he went on to say she was most radiant woman i ever met and for some reason she loved me back. she loved her family, parents and her brother. i'm comforted by everyone at wdbj7. we are family. she worked with adam every day and they were a team. i'm heart broken for his fiance. be sure to stay with "eyewitness news" for continuing coverage of the tv

news crew shooting, we will have it on the air and on our web site at cbs philly.com. well to day the the pennsylvania supreme court unsealed numerous filings including e-mails with pornographic material in relation to the case against attorney general kathleen kane. investigative reporter charlotte huffman has been digging in the documents and has more. >> reporter: inside scores of e-mails unscored today are nude photos of women all the toward look like they are sarah palin and hillary clinton, long with hundreds of very pornographic photos of women performing sex acts most of which are too vulgar to show. documents released at judge's request accused two former state prosecutors in kane's office, mark and frank fina of being porn peddlers using their stay at homework compute tours send or receive pornographic e-mails like captions like a new secretary, and enjoy the show. the e-mails are tied to the case begins attorney general kathleen kane, who faces charges including obstruction,

and conspiracy for allegedly leaking grand jury material and lying bit. accusations that kane has denied, but this week a judge ruled that there is enough evidence to send the case to court for trial where kane will likely use the graphic e-mails, as part of her defense. because she alleged that after she discovered the e-mails, fina and one other, manufactured a grand jury investigation, in order to discredit her and protect themselves. calls to fina and costanz o have not yet been return. both of them currently work at the philadelphia district attorney's office which released a statement this evening saying the district attorney is launching a thorough review of the e-mails, and any actions that current employees took, in the distribution of those e-mails. >> let us know when you get reaction, indeed, thank you. a ten year-old girl is recovering following a triple shooting in west philadelphia a police arrived on the scene to find the girl with the

grazed wound to the left arm. chopper three over the scene at 39th and poplar. a 29 year-old man was shot in the arm and foot, third victim a 36 year-old man was shot in the ankle. police have not announced any arrest, no word on what led to the shooting. this is eyewitness cam video of a one alarm fire in north philadelphia. it is happening on the 5900 block of kendell. the fire was placed under control before 9:30 this morning. there were no reports of any injuries. a fire that destroyed an upper merion apartment building earlier today has been ruled accidental. crews responded to the abrams run apartments, on bill smith boulevard, around 1:30 this morning, a all 30 residents were able to get out safely but officials say the building is a total loss. cape may county man is facing charges for shooting down a drone flying near his home. "eyewitness news", new jersey reporter cleve bryan talk with the drone's owner about what happened. >> long story short, end of the drone. >> reporter: those drones flew like a duck, leonard never

imagined it would be shot down by one. these are pellets. >> reporter: last september he was flying his drone over the friend's house near cape may canal when he heard a shotgun blast. >> three or four more, shots and then i realized okay, they are shooting at my drone. i heard one over my head. >> reporter: he was taking these photos on the construction of the friends house. people next door had a different view. >> i'm like, basically accusing me of spying. >> reporter: this week a grand jury indicted the alleged drone shooter, russell charging him with criminal mischief and possession for firearm for unlawful purpose that ace penalty for up to ten years in prison. would you talk to you. >> reporter: he answered his door but said he wouldn't talk to us without consulting his lawyer. cape may county prosecutor bob taylor says he understands some people are uncomfortable with flying camera devices but if you suspect someone is a

peeping tom with a drone treat it like would you someone with binoculars. >> people have concerns about their privacy being invaded, or trespassing, they should call the the police dep. the the department will investigate and take the appropriate action. >> reporter: while drone usage is an emerging technology lawmakers are confident looking to update regulations, the prosecutor's office says one thing is clear, you cannot destroy other peoples property. >> it is not a joke. you cannot take out a gun and shoot it. >> he hopes to recover $1,300 to replace his drone n lower township cape may county, cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". a camp maintenance worker in montgomery county has been arrested for child sex assault. david allen has been charged with sexually abusing a child and those assaults happened at two locations, approximately, six years ago. he was arrested august 12th, a preliminary hearing is scheduled for tomorrow. the whistle blower in the penn state hazing scandal took a tour through the house where

at alleged abuse took place. that walk through will be part of the deposition used in the lawsuit against the the kappa delta row fraternity, the james vinceo pointed out the exact locations in the fraternity house where he says he was hazed. according to attorneys, at alleged abuse was brutal. >> you hear stories of prisoners being treated and made to be afraid, with abuse and loud voices, and forced to consume things that are just discuss continuing. the these were not prisoners of war but these were freshman. >> the 21 year-old vinceo has lost an on line petition calling a end to all hazing. still to come on "eyewitness news" at 6:00, new information on the papal vice witt only a month until pope francis comes, our pat ciarrocchi, shows us how officials are trying to redefine the dreaded traffic box.

with 32 days until the arrival of pope francis in philadelphia mayor nutter is encouraging the region to proclaim i'll be there. a campaign foreign enthusiasms yas many instead of the dread of disruption. here's pat ciarrocchi with more. >> reporter: now is the time for all of us to declare, i'll be there. because this is not a moment to be missed.

very nice. well, historical eight year-old who made history with the double hand transplant in philadelphia has been discharged from children's hospital. >> these are photos from penn medicine of zion harvey heading home now to the baltimore area. he was youngest patient ever to receive a double hand transplant and underwent the the 11 hour operation back in july. he will continue to receive therapy, at an outpatient basis. best of luck to him. >> indeed. library tour makes a stop in philadelphia and dozens of children received a special treat. >> ronald mcdonald making an appearance at branch library any philadelphia as part of the summer library tour. ronald performed his book time show that teaches elementary grade students to respect books and spend sometime every day to read. mcdonald's presented the library a $1,000 donation. >> very nice. >> stay tuned, kate has our forecast. so much for dog days of august. >> doesn't feel like it right now. it has been hot.

airport. every other spot has dropped back in the 70's. right now 75 in reading. seventy-six allentown. seventy-eight at the moment in trenton. it has been a practically perfect day. we have had all boxes check here. sunny skies, warm temperatures, got that, low humidity, that is yes as well very light breeze. breeze has pick up this afternoon out of the north and west but it just feels great. little bit on the cool side in the shade, nice and warm in the sunshine. taking a look at more sunny days on the way with high pressure building from the west sunny and nice for your thursday. temperatures in the low to mid 80's. normal high 85, 84 this time of the year. we will be close to that for your thursday but depend how morning start out. if we drop down in the the lower 60's to that would skew temperatures and we will even up with a day below average. been a while since we had one of those. then that high goes east and we will get into return flow, southwest wind pulling in more from the south and west and ramp up humidity. lets talk about precipitation, this month has been dry, we

have only had five taste with rain, appreciatable rain, fourth, sixth, tenth, 11th and 20th. it doesn't look like anymore rain is in our future for next several days at least. here's latest on tropical storm erika. position is heading west at 17 n the bohamas by the weekend. the as of right now it will curve and make a close path if not land fall along the coast of florida on monday as a a category one storm. question is does the it recurve back in the atlantic. we will keep an eye on that and i will keep you posted. we have 65 degrees. tomorrow gorgeous, lots of sun, very nice day, high of 38 in the city. down the shore 79 and full day of sunshine, this week has been absolute perfection down the shore and pretty great the in the city as well. friday 84. more sun. weekend does start to warm up. here comes dog days in the forecast early next week. we will close out august start september and with highs in the 90's, so back to school don't pull out jeans, boots, just yet.
