new this morning a gruesome discovery a man found shot to death inside a north philadelphia apartment. we are live with the latest on the investigation. it is hard to get your arms around it and realize, or try to make sense of why it happened. >> a heart broken father trying to make sense of the violence that played out live on the air, this morning, new details emerging about the gun man and his connection to the victim. good morning it is thursday august 27th i'm nicole brewer. erika has the day off but we are getting your day started as usual with the check of weather and traffic. kyla and meisha joining me this morning. >> gateway to the weekend. >> yes, i like that. >> it is thursday. >> yes. >> and the roads are looking g

how is weather. it is chillier this morning. no humidity. >> we have that low humidity thing going on again and we are in line for another gorgeous day out there, everybody. it is just great news again in the weather department, and, i love to be the the one to bring it to you. and we are at 63, up in mount pocono, 67 in philadelphia and, 62 in at atlantic city. nice and calm. that makes it a lovely day. so is this, radar that looks like this, storm scan three picking up barely anything on the radar, you can see a little bit through great lakes. that means more blue skies coming our way. we will see highs very close to yesterday, very lovely in philadelphia. high of 83. seventy-nine heading to the shore. another fantastic, beach day, the the park knows, 72 degrees, a a few cloud work their way in there but we are looking good. sunny stretch continues, heat and humidity will, creep back in toward the the weekend and will we start september, with some 90-degree weather?

and of course in the 6:00 o'clock hour. west trent than line expect to be back to normal. i will update you when that is confirmed ape it is back to running normally. nicole, back to you. new this morning philadelphia police investigating a deadly overnight shooting in north philadelphia. police arrived to find a man shot dead as gunshot wound on the third floor apartment near 15th and poplar. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch is live with more details on that, justin? >> reporter: nicole, good morning. the investigation remains active. crime scene team got here a short time ago and they are combing for clues upstairs in the third floor apartment with the blue shade where a man was found shot on death overnight. lets take to you video of the scene here, police say that the 24 year-old man, we're told two men found him at the 1:00 this morning live on the floor, shot in the head. he was discovered in an apartment, back room, which police described as a work room. those friend called 911 and stood by the, the the medicine

aches arrived shortly thereafter. that man was pronounced dead at 1:15. detectives did find one shell casing from a semiautomatic gun. police tell us there are no signs of forced entry or ransacking and police are now reaching out to neighors and police. >> for now it is being treated as a homicide. homicide detective are processing the scene and they are knocking on the doors for the four story apartment, looking for any additional witnesses, we're also knocking on doors in the the neighborhood, to see if anybody has recently heard from this 24 year-old male who reportedly lives inn side of the apartment. >> reporter: and this overnight and morning police are relying on those neighbor tips and tips from the victim's friend to learn more about the victim and circumstances under which this person was found. coming up a 59:00 more about the suspicious substance found at the crime scene. we will bring thaw at 5:00. live from north philadelphia,

justin finch for cbs-3 eyewitness news. thanks for the the update. philadelphia police are searching for a killer in hunting park after a 21 year-old is gunned down. man was shot several times along the 1600 block of rowan street around 9:30 last night. he was pronounced dead at that scene. so far police have no motive for shooting and they have made no arrest. a 12 year-old boy is recovering after he was hit by a car in germantown. that boy was treated at einstein hospital. police say that the mote the wrist stopped after the accident which happened just before 9:00 on the 100 block of west sill vein use street. their up investigation, continues. right now there is no word on the 12 year-old's condition. we are learning more this morning about vester flannigan the suspect who murdered a television reporter and photographer on live tv in virginia on wednesday morning. reporter allison parker and cameraman adam ward were live on the air conducting an interview when former co-worker ambush them. both died, the the woman they were interviewing was wounded as well. the police identified the

shooter as 41 year-old vester flannigan, he posted his own view on social media flannigan shot himself in his car two hundred miles away and later indict. he used the name bryce williams on the air. wdbj fired him in 2013 and police had to escort him from the building. >> towards the end there were issues with temper and ability to work with others. >> reporter: in the 23 page fax sent to abc news just after the shooting a man claiming to be flannigan said quote i have been a human powder keg for a while just waiting to go boom. he wrote the church shooting in charleston, south carolina was his tipping point. well, parker's boyfriend news anchor chris hearst is a graduate of conestoga high school in tredyffrin township chester county. he tweeted this message saying we didn't share this publicly but allison and i were very much in love. we just moved in together. i am numb. he was supposed to anchor the news last night but inn ted mourning the loss of his

collogue and girlfriend. >> i just can't believe that she's gone. i can't. a marvelous story teller with so much promise ahead of her and she just happened to love me back. >> reporter: they have been dating for nine months. he said they planned to marry. president obama also spoke out about the shooting in roanoke, lets take a look. >> it is one more argument for why we need to look at how we can reduce gun violence in this country but right now the fbi has been helpful, with the local authorities, to try to solve what is really a tragic death. >> the president says that his heart goes out to the families of all of the victims. drexel university has issued a warning after a string of burglaries near campus. at least five burglaries reported in the off campus neighborhood of powellton village between saturday and monday. thieves are going after expensive cameras, watches and electronics h in one incident an air conditioning unit was taken right out of the window. now new students are learning a lesson they never signed up

for. >> i go to sleep thinking about it, you know, thinking about the the guy that stole my camera, using my camera, and it the is very painful but all i can do is just move on and be more careful next time. >> reporter: in response, drexel police, stepped up patrols wye car and bike and students have been more aware of their surroundings. we are just a month away from the arrival of the pope francis here in philadelphia and the city wants residents to get pumped for the historic visits. mayor nutter unveiled a new campaign called i'll be there, starting monday officials will distribute open in phl buttons and kits across the city. they will include information about how businesses can get involved and engage visitors during the papal event. officials say they are also planning fun activities, all over, what will be called the francis festival grounds. >> we want you to know you can still be part of this event. there will be 40 jumbo trons

we have some sad news one of the two new born panda cubs at

the in a sue has died after three days. zoo officials have not announced the cause of the cubs death but aid it will perform a human autopsy. the mother panda was only nursing the larger of the two babies. zoo keepers were trying to care for smaller, weaker cub but say it never got stronger. >> our panda team began administering antibiotics, respiratory support, fluids, and nutritional support as appropriate. although we did see some slight improvement, in the cubs overall condition and behavior, things turned and the cubs condition declined. >> the the surviving cub we're told remains with the mother and said to be doing well. all right. well, an eight year-old boy who made history with the double hand transplant right here in philadelphia has been discharged from children's hospital. these are photos from penn medicine of zion harvey who is back home in maryland this morning. we are so happy for this little guy.

became youngest patient ever to receive a double hand transplant. he underwent the 11 hour operation back in july. we shared this story here. he will continue to receive therapy, we're told, on a outpatient basis but way to go, zion, we know he has such a strong spirit, incredible little boy, so all of the best to him. 4:43. time to get a check of the forecast, but first, another weather news we have big news to share. >> katie fehlinger our meteorologist has given birth to two healthy little girls. we are so happy for her, parker janice and kay den fey were born yesterday afternoon. huge congratulations to katie and husband steve and new members of the "eyewitness news" family. can't wait to see them. >> i know, well done, katie. >> yes, she did a great job and they are both healthy. >> beautiful pregnancy and she will be such a great mom. we are thinking about you, girls. >> she's resting.

>> big kisses. >> let's talk weather. >> it is another good day. >> another gorgeous day, another gorgeous day. >> i love you. >> feeling the the love, everybody. >> we do have to talk about the tropics because things are heating up down there. lets get started with that. let's talk about tropical storm erika with wind sustained at 45 miles an her right now. it is on the move. this is expected path. as you can see it does take it right up the coast there of florida, as a category one. it did take a little steer to the right there. so instead of the being a direct hit but these things adjust as we go so we will keep an eye on. that how will this impact our weather. if this does turn up the coast it can make for dangerous rip currents that can make it where we are and depending on the path potentially some rain too. where we are right new we don't have any rain, we have 67 degrees, to deal with in philadelphia 61 percent humidity. not bad. temperatures around the region 57 in mount pocono.

sixty-two in trenton. sixty-two in atlantic city. fifty's and 60's. and then we will get this gift of storm scan three of being absolutely beautiful. i love when you look at the radar and there is nothing to talk about there. we have clear skies again today and hour by hour, we will work our way right in the afternoon into those 80's and it should be another really sunny nice day out there. if you are planning to get out to the pool, it is a great day. abundant sunshine and is there our high of 83 degrees. terrific for that. let take a look at our high. eight 36789 lot of sunshine. beautiful day. wind from the northwest makes it calm and tonight clear, staying very comfortable, low of 64 degrees. looking good. lets look at that seven day forecast, it does have a few caveat that is get in the way of the beautiful forecast. we will heat up, upper 80's and we will end august, look at that and begin september with 90-degree days, nicole. the heat is coming. just enjoy today and tomorrow.

summer isn't over just yet. phillies will wrap up the mets series tonight in south philadelphia, thank goodness because mets feasted on our phillies pitching all week. the last night was no different. yep, first inning and michael cu d dier, he had a first inning double, and home run later on. the mets win nine-four. phillies have lost three straight. and talking eagles now, they will take on the packers in green bay this sat the day night with the expect starters get mag jotter of the playing time. we will look at chip kelly's revamped bird which would be interesting to see. besides upgrade in the secondary and nfl rushing champ demarco murray in an eagles uniform, we will see quarterback sam bradford. game time 8:00 o'clock from lambeau feel. we are hearing more from ravens linebacker terrell suggs accused of a low hit saturday night. suggs says he understands the the reaction of the eagles and fans, who are just sticking up

4:49. time for a check of business news. jill wagner joins us from the floor or the new york stack exchange. what a difference a day makes. stocks will rallied on wall street so what do you think is in store today, more good news, i hope? >> anyone's guess, right. the the chinese and other stock market followed wall street's lead so we are in potentially a good start here. yesterday u.s. markets closed in positive territory for the the first time in more than a week. it came after the fed president said it is less likely fed will raise interest rates next month given market volatility and troubles in chine but analyst say these big swings that we have been seeing in the market they could be the new normal, for at least, the next, few weeks. so, we have that to look forward to. >> that is an unsettling thought. but jill, we're also talking about the fact that it is not even labor day and

let's check on the roads with meisha. >> good morning, nicole. good morning to all of you at home. are dark, very early out there. we have overnight construction project in play at vine street in the westbound direction at 16th street between broad street and ben franklin. the it is pulled out block ago this right lane. eastbound lane was previously affected as well but that has since clear. we are dealing with the residual effect on the eastbound lanes but westbound is still block. that right lane. taking the vine, and we have construction on the the schuylkill westbound off ramp to the blue route that has been since cleared. you can see a nice, way to get out of the way. you can see headlights here nice drive this morning. the no accidents to report. overnight construction project will hopefully lift scene. forty-two freeway north bound at creek road approaching 295, a very steady flow there. overall things are looking nice this morning. and, it the will be another beautiful day in the weather department. >> yes, i heard you ordered more gorgeous weather and i wanted to thank you for that.

month. we have had ten days of 90 plus degree weather, 24 out of the 26 days with sunshine, highest temp is 94. our low has been 65. makes you wonder will we see more 90's? well, not today. we are looking good. current temperature 66 degrees. humidity 63 percent. higher then we were yesterday but still not too bad. storm scan three showing, those clear beautiful blue skies that we can expect to see yet again today, and as we look here at our headlines, we can see sun stretch continues, into tomorrow, heat and humidity creeping back in as we head toward the weekend. so august will end with the the 90's and also begin with some 90's. so if you thought the month is about to wind up, on monday, we will start september, nice and cool, not so much, we're getting that cooler weather right the now, we're going to start september a little bit toasty, just prepare you for. that we will talk bit in the seven day forecast in just a few moments,
