that tragedy in verge sent shock waves across the country and to news rooms across the country. reporter alison parker and photographer adam ward were shot to death in the middle of a live interview. they were shot by a disgruntled former employee, and that man later took his own life. we get more now from craig boswell in virginia. >> wdbj tv's morning show paused at 6:45 this morning, to remember two journalists who were murdered on air, by a former co-worker. >> please join us now in a moment of silence. >> reporter: reporter alison parker and photographer adam ward were shot during live interview wednesday, the gunman, vester flanagan, was a former reporter for the station, who went by the name bryce williams. hours after the shooting, he fatally shot himself. colleagues say, it is difficult to move on. >> we got the support, i think, just from the love and the outpouring of community support that we've gotten here. >> a memorial of flowers

anibal ons continues to grow here outside wdbj studios, as this community mourns the two journalists. investigators are looking into the gunman's troubled past, before shooting himself, flanagan tweeted under his on air name that park her made racial comments, and that ward had reported him to hr. on cbs this morning, former fbi deputy director john miller called flanagan an injustice check or. >> he viewed himself as guy who should be, you know, here on network television news, and unfortunately, he found the most terrible way to get there. >> investigators have searched flanagan's apartment, for more evidence, answers will be harder to find. in roanoke, virginia, craig boswell, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> and "eyewitness news" will have continuing coverage of this tragedy, in virginia, you can find updates and also tributes to those two victims, at cbsphilly.com. new at noon, "eyewitness news" gets an up close look at local state and federal law enforcement agencies, and they

conduct drills on the emergency preparedness ahead of the papal visit. the delaware river and it banks in tinicum township delaware county were the training grounds for this exercise. the collaborative effort included members of the philadelphia police department, pennsylvania, and new jersey state police, as well as the fbi. >> well, our sunny stretch continues today. the warm weather really comfortable, very comfortable humidity, and that really is a welcome relief. meteorologist, kyla grogan live for us on the cbs-3 skydeck. i know it is real difficult to be out there, isn't it today? >> just basking in the sunshine, pat. who can do this assignment? ill, any day of the week. it is gorgeous out here, no doubt about it, actually closing in on the end of august, pretty soon. so i thought let's start with a look at where we've been in august. talk about the heat and where we're goingment as you can see, we've had ten plus days, ten days rather of 09 plus degrees heat. we've had 24 out of 26 days of sunshine, and i think we can add this to the list there, too, and we've had our highest temperature of 94 degrees, the lowest of 65. now, right now, current

temperatures, taking a look at philadelphia, we pick up two, 77 degrees, 64 mount pocono, and atlantic city coming in at 76. all starting to warm up. sunshine definitely out in full force, and when it is all said and done, we will see high of 83, in philly today. seventy-nine if you're down the shore, and if you're in the poconos about 72, could see few clouds there, too. all-in-all, it is really going to be a beautiful day. now, temperatures are running today just about average, but as you can see, that temperature line is heading up, as we head to the weekend. we've got some serious heat coming our way. so if you thought we were done with it shall and the 90 degrees days were a thing of the past, well, hang on, for example, not quite done yet. back in just a few moment, pat, talking the seven day forecast, and i'll show you where the heat will be so you can make your plans as we head toward the weekend. >> thank up, president obama visiting new orleans today, marking the tenth anniversary, storm devastated new orleans and many cities along the gulf coast. while in new orleans, the

president will meet with residents who have rebuilt their lives, since the disaster. he will also participate in a rounds table, on national preparedness. this noon, homicide detectives want to know if drugs played a role in a man's apparent shooting death. in north philadelphia, in an apartment, overnight, about 1:00 this morning police say the man's two male friends discovered his body in a third floor apartment in the 1400 block of poplar street. the 24 year old was bleeding from a single gunshot to the head. >> we did find what appears to be some residue on a counter top, and the floor, this residue appears to be that after green weed-like substance, commonly found in marijuana. also there is a very stronghead odor of marijuana coming from the apartment, unusually strong odor of marijuana. soap, there is a possibility this homicide could be narcotics-related. >> authorities did not finds any initial signs or forced entry or robbery, they say

that the evidence of drugs will factor in their investigation. >> philadelphia police would hope that you can help them finds a burglar whose break-in is caught on security cameras. take a look at this, the suspect shattered the front glass door of larry steaks, this is on west girard avenue, about 5:15, last thursday morning. once inside the suspect yanked the cash register's off the count err, and then got away. if you recognize this suspect, in the video, we ask you to call the police. and authorities are also searching for this man, who robbed the citizens citizens ban the 2500 block of south 24th street in south philadelphia yesterday. and he did this in broad daylight. it was 1:00 o'clock in the afternoon. take a look, he's wearing nike air shirt, with a swoosh logo. the suspect handed a note to the teller, and then took off with the cash. if you recognize him, we also ask to you call the police. drexel university is warning students to watch their valuables after a string

of burglaries. at least five burglaries have been reported in the off-campus neighborhood of powelton village. that will happened between saturday and monday. the thieves are going after expensive cameras and watches and electronics n1 incident, an air conditioner was taken right out of the window. now, some new students are learning a new lesson that they didn't sign up for. >> i go to sleep thinking about it, you know, thinking about like the guy that stole my camera, using my camera, and, you know, it is very painful. but, you know, all i can do is just move on, and be more careful next time. in response, drexil police have stepped up patrols by car, bike and student events been advised to be more aware of their surroundings. >> coming up here on cbs-3, "eyewitness news" this noon: he hasn't decided whether he will run for the presidency, but already, a new pole is suggesting that vice president joe biden may be a better contender for the democrats. also, ahead, a giant sinkhole opens up under a busy bus stop in china.

swallows a pavement and five people with it. it happened at busy bus stop. we're toll one woman actually hung from underground pipes to avoid falling further. none of the victims suffered any serious injuries, we're grateful for. that will investigators trying to figure out why that street opened up so suddenly. kathleen kane has been named the worse state attorney general in the country. that is according to the competitive enterprize institute which ranked the sixth worse in the nation. the organization says all of those on the list are repeat offenders and betrayed the trust of citizens. yesterday hundreds of pornographic emails and documents relating to the case against kane were unsealed. on monday, a judge ruled for the case to go to trial for allegedly leaking grand jury information cane denies any wrong-doing. >> new pole is showing that vice president joe biden is running slightly better than hillary clinton against the leading republican candidate.

still, biden hasn't said if he would run or not. the quinnipiac university poll released today, also finds, that clinton remains frontrunner with lead over bern he, and biden in at 18%. on the republican side, done al trump is in the lead at 28%. right now, donald trump is about to make a campaign stop. this is in south carolina. this is a live look, inside the convention center in greenville. the gop presidential hopeful is set to take the stage at any moment and go to that podium. it is part of an up-state chamber coalition presidential series. he will address the supporters in south carolina business community. >> now, with all of this campaign jockeying for position, it is raising questions about who is in, who is out, and what will the republicans do about donald trump. correspondent hena daniels reports from the campaign trail.

little while, boy it was nice. let's head now to our radar, you can see, storm scan3, this is why blue skies, very nice if you are outside, see the blue skies all day long. it means clear skies, good air quality, pollen level, medium hi, that one up there little bit. very high uv index, because that means all a need the sunscreen today, heat index no problems there 76 down in atlantic city, so all kind of in the 70s except for mount pocono, with the elevation. we zoom in little here. quakertown about 73. pottstown, 73 for you, too, 76 mt. holly. so all off to very nice start. dew point are in the 50's, now, remember that measures that moisture that's in the air. because, it is in the 50's, and our temperatures are in the 70s, they're far enough apart we're not feeling that kind of oppressive feeling that the air can get when it is lot of humidity. however, while looking at pleasant and awesome today, looks what's happening here

towards the weekends, start to ramp up. by sunday that humidity back in play. a lot of this has to do with the fact the jet stream moving to the north, let all of that heat come rolling in, and that is why we're going to see another kick of 90 degrees heat before it is all said and done here, for august. right now, though, beautiful, if you're out rehoboth. 71 degrees. look at everybody out on the beach there, nice, right? great day to get the beach umbrella out and head out. beach will be gorgeous, pick degree or two, but not bad. sunny thursday, friday, saturday, low 80s saturday. big story here is the sunshine. so if you are down the shore this week you're either wrapping up your vacation or starting it, it will be fantastic. head toward the city, average high about 84. as you can see, today, tomorrow, great, beautiful, about right where we should be. saturday and sunday remember the jet stream moving to the north. temperatures are also moving up. by the time we get to monday talking another 09 degrees high. so, that is the end of august, on monday, then we start

september on tuesday, that heat is likely to continue as we get into mid week next week. so today, we don't have to worry about 90's. eighty-three the high, lots of sunshine, great day outside. the evening will also be lovely, so stroll, maybe after work, or having your dinner outside tonight would be great idea. mostly clear, staying comfortable, low about 64 degrees. saturday, sunday, start to see the heat creep in. humidity starts to move up. clouds also working their way into the forecast sunday afternoon. so it will be a return of the hazy heat, as we get into the latter part of the week, in particular, i think saturday, you'll feel the temperatures, i think sunday you'll feel the humidity. and it has some staying power, so not going to get rid of it quite so quickly. >> that's okay, but as we've been saying, it is august. >> it is august, and remember it, will soon be november and december and january and we will be wishing it would be this warm. >> fireworks show angered
