and meisha. good morning, ladies. >> good morning, yes, roads looking pretty good. how is it feeling out there, kyla. >> feeling soupy out here already. and i got to tell you, this early, right? already feeling it, if you have to do any strenuous physical activity today, you got to get out early. it will be another scorcher. we are winding up our august awfully hot. start september that way, too. let's take look at some of the statistics, of what has happened so far this month. well, our temperatures have been about 2 degrees above average, but look at how much we have been down on precipitation. we're about 2.3 inches less than we should be. our highest temperature so far this month, 94. our lowest, 63. that's where we've been. this is where we're going, everybody. current temperature in philadelphia, 77 degrees. 60s in the poconos. mid 70s already down in atlantic city. so it is toasty. we feel the humidity. look at the 77 already in palmyra, 73 in pottstown, so you know when you are seeing seven's and it is 5:00 in the morning, we will be warm today

do. have cloud cover today. little different than how we started yesterday. but you can see, not much on the radar. just few blips there. not probably even hitting the ground, not much to speak of there in the way of rain. so we won't be worrying about that today. heat is back. should be low 80s this time of year. looking at heatwave sunday, monday, tuesday, wednesday, could even last through thursday, i think the peak of the heat will be on wednesday, everybody, so, it will be a little bit after rough right. got to take deep breath. hopefully meisha the traffic will cooperate. how is that doing today? >> traffic looking pretty good. sounds like it will be all shorts and flip flops for all of the kids going back to school. that's always a fun thing, always nice, still dark out there for those of you just joining us, welcome, i hope you've got your coffee. certainly still early. looking good for those of you traveling out of jersey heading toward 29a northbound creek road, see steady flow now, some of the traffic coming back, if you were down the shore, certainly, all casino of headed back, coming back to the real world now. see plenty of headlights out

there to show. the roosevelt boulevard looking pretty good as you approach the schuylkill. this is another area i tends to keep my eye on as we progress through the 5:00 hour, approaching the schuylkill, get on to the schuylkill heading westbound, city avenue tends to heat up fairly quickly, but right now on the roosevelt, looking pretty good. 422 at oaks, approaching king of prussia. everyone traveling around posted speeds, no accidents to report, although, overnight construction project have now lifted which is nice. let's look at our wide map here. give you kinds after look at your neck of the woods. everything looking really good at this early monday morning, erika, over to you. >> meisha, thank you. new this morning, search for cause is underway after this fire in kensington. "eyewitness news" on the scene overnight on the 3,000 block of arbor street. we're told that building was vacant. eyewitnesses tell us they saw several people believed to be squatters leaving the building overnight. >> philadelphia police are mourning the loss of one of their own, killed in a hit-and-run accident. it is the second weekend in

row off duty officer was killed in a crash. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us now at 12th police district in southwest philadelphia, where the officer was assigned. justin, good morning. >> erika, good morning, police tell us, officer lamar pool was on his 19th year with the force, and only 42 years old, when his life was cut short in that weekend hit-and-run crash. they also say alert bystanders helped them nab a suspectment let's take you now to video of that crash. the wreck happened at about 4:00 p.m. sunday, in the area of roosevelt boulevard, and devereaux avenue. that is where witnesses tell police they saw a silver toyota corolla going east on the roosevelt, and pool going west on his honda motorcycle. from that corner, police say, the corolla made left turn and struck pool, then sped off. but a tow driver stayed behind the corolla tracking him, even after pool had been ejected from it bike by the impact. pool was taken to aria-torresdale with head injuries. he was pronounced dead there,

soon after, pool was not wearing a helmet either, police say, he is now the second philadelphia police officer to die in a off duty crash in as many weeks, and that's not lost on investigatorsment take a listen. >> it is unusual. i don't recall in my career that we had two in a week that may have happened. i just don't recall it. but they're very both tragic. different kind of crashes nonetheless, but to lose two in one week is tough. >> lot of heavy hearts this morning, last weekends sergeant ralph yell ali killed in single vehicle crash. speed played a factor in that we're toll. car involved in pool's wreck was found in the area of devereaux and bustleton avenue. we do know the driver is a 58 year old male, police say, did he show signs of dui. his charges have not yet been announced as he's in the yet been identified. we are live in southwest philadelphia, justin finch, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". justin, thank you. >> now, this is the second straight weekends that an accident claimed the life of off duty philadelphia police officer.

last saturday, 32 year old sergeant raphael ali was killed in roxborough when his suv hit a tree, on the 6,000 block of henry avenue. >> a ridley park police officer whose life was saved by his bulletproof vest when he was shot is now recovering at home this morning. the shooting happened during a stand-off early yesterday morning on the 600 block of mohawk avenue in northwood. police were responding to calls that an armed suicidal man was barricade in the home. officer mark hanley shot twice, trying to apprehends the suspect. the door opened up. and they tried to deploy a taser to get the subject, at which time the subject shut the door and fired two rounds through the door. >> thirty-six year old darryl burt surrendered to police, treated at the hospital, for a gunshot wound to the elbow. he was then charged with attempted murder. scheduled for preliminary hearing on september 9th. >> new this morning, two people are being questioned by police for a shooting in west

philadelphia. nine shell casings mark the spot of a shooting at south 52nd and hazel avenue. a 23 year old man is in critical condition after being shot in the chest. happening today, the suspect in the fatal shooting after sheriff's dispute any texas appears for his arraignment. shannon miles is charged with shooting deputy darren goforth at suburban houston gas station, miles had criminal record including convictions for resisting arrest and disorderly conduct with a firearm. >> also, happening today, friends and family will remember the life of adam ward. a wake will take place today for the news photographer after killed during live interview last week. his funeral is tomorrow. yesterday, a multi fate memorial service was held in memory of both ward and reporter alison parker. the disgruntled co-worker killed them last wednesday. religious leaders, co-workers, families, gathered in roanoke during the service the general manager of wdbj tv where they

worked, he spoke about improving mental health treatment. >> i would like to advise my colleagues, my employees, my friends, don't get angry, get strategic. angry to you and the result we saw on wednesday can be catostrophic. if we get strategic we have a goal and possibility of positive action, and that's what i would like to you think about in memory of sal son and adam. >> there will be private memorial service for alison parker, then a celebration of her life at a later date. >> tom brady and nfl commissioner roger goodel are expected back in court today over the so-called deflate gate suit. new england patriots quarterback appealing four game suspension. federal judge in new york is expected to rule by friday, but could make a ruling today. he's been trying to broke area deal between brady and goodel. >> the race for the presidential nominations, getting tighter. the latest polls in campaign

2016 show the frontrunner's leads getting small nerve iowa. that's scene of the first caucuses. correspondent andrew spencer take a look at the newest numbers. >> the clear frontrunners for the republican and democratic nomination may not be as clear as they once were. democratic candidate, and senator, bernie sanders, continues to rise in the polls as he focuses his attention on income equality climate change, and higher education. >> those are the issues i've been talking b those are the issues that are generating enormous entheusiasm from one ends of this country to the other. >> saunders has kit kill -- hillary clinton's lead to a few points, of likely democratic voters in the early caucus state. and it may be less about clinton losing ground than it is about sanders gaining it. the pole is suggesting 96% of it supporters are motivated by his candidacy, and not a desire to oppose hers. meanwhile, ben carson is closing the gap against donald trump.

his post big surge specially strong in iowa where this weekend pole shows him now trailing trump by five percentage points. the polls margin of error is 4.9. andrew spencer, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". new jersey governor, chris christie; taking heat for comment he made about immigrants. during a campaign event, in new hampshire on saturday, he said if he becomes president, he'll track immigrant, like fed ex packages. >> we let people come to this country with advice a's, and the minute they come in, we lose track of them. we can't -- so here's what i'm going to do as president, ask fred smith, worker at fed ex, come work for the government nor three months. >> then tried to clarify his comment during interview on fox news yesterday morning. >> what my point was was that this is once again a situation where the private sector laps us in the government with the use of technology. let's use the same type of technology to make sure 40% of the 11 million people here

and more is now expected. cbs news correspondent don champion in miami with more. >> even though erika has dissipated parts of the southeast, are now out of the woods yet. remnants of the tropical storm are producing heavy rain and high wind in florida, conditions that could last for several days. >> with that, a threat for some flashflooding, pretty widespread two-4 inches, locally few spots see over 5 inches. that's where we would seat flashflooding concerns. >> over the weekends, erika's crashing waves beat away at the coast in palm beach leaving three to 5-foot cliff. >> the errosion is, i mean, it is unbelievable. i've never seen anything like it. >> erika's rains turned yards into lakes, and covered roads in part of the state. the situation made it tricky for both drivers and bikers. >> i could barely pedal. it comes up above my pedals. that's how deep it gets. >> last week, tropical storm erika dumped more than 15 inches of rain in part of the caribbean, killing at least 20 people on the island

of dominica. for now, emergency operations centers florida are staying open around the clock ready if the waters rise. don champion, cbs news, miami. >> just when we get rid of erica, in comes hurricane, when is it, fred this time, kyla. >> yes. okay, so we do have another hurricane in the atlantic. that's probably the bad just. good news it is very far a which from us right now. we start with a look at where fred is right now. what's happening. it is a category one right now, sustained winds at eight positive miles per hour, but you can see it is right off the coast of cape verdict, right where these things usually start to form, where we keep ion them. >> this one already kicked itself up to hurricane level. you can see, it is expected to weaken t has very long way to go before it would be a threat to us here in the united state. soap, not worrying about that right now. keeping an eye on t but to let you know we are still in the thick of this. september 10th is the peak of atlantic hurricane season, so not quite to the peak yet. that's why we still have to keep an eye on the atlantic

for sure. keeping an eye on philadelphia, taking a lock now, you can see it in the distance there. this is from the palmyra cove nature park, 75 degrees already, everybody. so off to the races with these temperatures. in fact, take a look, allentown 71, 75 millville, 57 in wildwood. we are heating up quite quickly, and as you can see, our dew points are in the 60s already this morning. so we're going to feel the humidity today. but his is run of heat, and as you can see, we get awfully steamy as we go into tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. so no real break coming until we get toward the weekends. live look at storm scan3, shows you, clouds cover this morning, that's rolling in from the west. we don't have a lot of rain to speak of. see just few blips on the radar, not any of that probably hit the gown. hot and humid, high pressure tens, not just today, it is tomorrow, it is wednesday, it is thursday that we will be sunny and steamy, boy oh, boy, you can tell, when we've got that several days in a row with the high pressure to there. nice to get the blue skies usually but also allowing us to heat up. maybe headed to the shore. try to he is kate the heat.

9:00 hour. start to see slowly our levels start to build. no one will be slowing down speed wise. but we certainly will see the volume pick up just little bit. seeing that on 95 southbound. taking a look at the blue route, blue route southbound ridge pike, see again, plenty of headlights, taillights out there. everyone just starting to get on the roadways, if you are just joining us, gist thinking about hitting the roadways, i will let you know still in very good company. here is a look at the vine street expressway. you know, just casino of overview, movement out there. and everyone traveling around at posted speeds on the vine st. as well as on the schuylkill. a look at the wide map. you can see, dropping little bit on 95, probably just brakes going off, red light, nothing to be concerned about there. and then that will of course change as we move in the 6:00 hour, erika, over to you. >> meisha, thank you. her to take down a tree either after a storm or because the tree was dying, you know it is a wig job to get it removed. removing that tree is only part of the process. in this week's angie's list report, jim donovan looks at getting rid of the stump and that's all that's behind.
