>> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". right now at 11:00 o'clock, a tinicum township police officer is in the hospital after he was stabbed. good evening, everyone, i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining us. the stabbing happened at about 8:30 tonight in south philly in the parking lot of the holiday inn on packer avenue. police say the officer was performing a courtesy transport when a male passenger pulled a knife and stabbed the officer in the arm. police arrested that passenger. the officer meantime is expected to be okay. rutgers university has dismissed five football players who were arrested this week. andre bogs, rue hasn't peel, nadir barn well, roseanne gross and dell land stevenson been kick off the team. bogs and former player charged in news brunswick invasion that happened back in april. those two and other players are also accused of another home invasion in may. some of the players are also

day holiday weekend looks great. 86 degrees in philadelphia. 81 down the shore. in the poconos looking good. 79 degrees for tomorrow mostly sunny and pleasant. so your weather headlines what we'll talk about coming up a sunny holiday. right through labor day monday things look good it did start to heat up again. 90's by next week and we have the chance for rain in the forecast toward the end of the seven day coming up i'll tell you more about that that's coming up in a few minutes. natasha, back over to you. >> kate, thank so much with millions of people hitting the roads this holiday weekend gas prices have taken yet another dip according to triple a gallon of regular gas is 2.16 in new jersey. down 6 cents from last week and a dollar 20 from this time last year. taking a look around the rest of the area. delaware drivers paying an average 2.32 and here in pennsylvania, a little bit higher. a gallon of regular costs about 2.48. a big bust for many folk who were headed to avalon today to kick off the holiday weekend.

take a look at this eyewitness cam video here from viewer james meyer. the beach is closed from ninth through 24th street due to beach erosion. beach patrols will keep shores off limits for everyone for the ref of the day but they do anticipate reopening tomorrow. turning now to the eagles who released their final 53 man roster today. one name was absent. backup quarterback tim tebow let's bring in pat gallen here to give us and sight into what happened here. after the other night's game he looked good. seemed like he was in. what happened? >> then the trade happened with matt barkley. >> yeah. >> everyone expected tebow to be on the team. tebow time expired after the eagles traded matt barkley to the arizona cardinals yesterday. it did appear to pave the way for tebow to be the eagles third string quarterback. but chip kelly had other plans. earlier today, he cutty bow trimming eagles roster to 52 players which is one fewer than the maximum 53 allowed. tebow definitely out played barkley in the preseason ending

news". germany and austria have now opened borders to rep refugees fleeing war torn syria. some arrived in munich by train while others walk through hungary. hungary's an immigration prime minister wants to secure the border and that europe is underestimating the size of the crisis. but government officials say hungary needs to do more to make sure the my grants apply for asylum before heading on to other countries. also, now, authorities in florida they are trying desperately to track down a deadly 8-foot long king cobra that escape the home of reality tv star. here's actually a picture of the reptile. it got out of its cage on wednesday in orlando. experienced snake handlers are still scowering the property belonging to the cobra's owner mike kennedy. kennedy who hosts the show on the discovery channel has posted numerous online videos of himself with the snake. neighboneighbors are understandy concerned.

generally dry each day through the rest of the weekend and into next week. but temperatures will gradually warm up and then we tap into some more noticeable heat and humidity especially by next tuesday. temps right now 69 degrees at the airport. it's 71 in allentown. few more clouds up here through the lehigh valley berks county keeping it milder at this hour cool down the shore. 61 at the atlantic city airport in pomono. 68 degrees in wildwood and 66 in dover, delaware. what you wake to sunday morning, some very nice conditions for the time of year. item which are in the 50s in allentown tomorrow morning. 59 degrees in trenton. 59 the morning low in mill val. 63 here in philadelphia. cool comfy start in the poconos at 55 degrees on sunday morning. so again high pressure is in control of our weather pattern talking temperature in the 80s for the next couple of days. tomorrow looks like great day. humidity is still relatively low. we got a full day of sunshine across the board. and again just great day to get outside. now monday for labor day, we start to see that high slip further off the coast generate a

bit more of that southwest flow and some more humidity starts to creep in and then on tuesday, that's when it starts to turn hot again. back to school for a lot of kids in our area on tuesday. definitely not a day for the fall clothing. you don't want the jeans and sweater and boots here on tuesday. got to wear the shorts and t-shirts. temperatures in the 90s tuesday and wednesday. tropics continue to fire up here with our latest tropical storm. this is tropical storm grace. just to the south and west of the cape verde islands you can see grace's stats here. winds at 40 miles an hour wind gusts to 50. it's moving pretty much due west about 14 miles an hour. you can see the track of grace by tuesday still well out in the open atlantic but by late next week, thursday into friday, grace will be approaching the lesser antilles so we will keep an eye on it as we go into next week not a threat for us at the moment but as always keep you posted. overnight tonight 63 mainly clear, comfortable and tomorrow looks great in the city. lots of sun a really nice day. the shore forecast doesn't get much better for holiday weekend. how about this? 81 on sunday.
