this is the "cbs morning news" for thursday, september 10, 2015. good morning. i'm anne-marie green. this morning the fbi, other agencies are looking at a string of shootings targeting several motorists. at least ten vehicles have been hit in the past two weeks. don champion has the latest. >> reporter: state, federal, and local police are looking for the person who's targeting motorists along the main freeway through phoenix. >> why would somebody shoot at anybody at all, especially shoot at an innocent person. that's just insane. >> reporter: drivers who use interstate 10 very very nervous. >> very scary, very horrible. >> reporter: the incidents started on august 29th. the latest happened wednesday when the passenger side of this pickup truck was shattered. seven vehicles were hit by bullets and three were hit by

projectiles. law enforcement is ramping up patrols on the ground and in the air it's becoming a huge safety issue at this point, so we want to get it stopped. >> reporter: so far there have not been any serious injuries. >> it's just a matter of time before we have tragedy on our roads. >> reporter: arizona is calling on michigan, colorado, and elsewhere. they have had issues over the past year. drivers are urged to stay vigilant. don champion, cbs news. new evacuations where a heat wave continues and wildfires spread. the fire -- this fire was sparked by lightning on july 31st. it was -- it has now burned more than 160 square miles and is only 31% contained. residents were told to get ready to get out. high temperatures are expected

again today. and tropical storm henry has formed in the atlantic. located about 250 miles southeast of bermuda. the storm is expected to pass well east of bermuda later today and currently poses no threat to land. for the second straight day, eastern japan is being hit by heavy rains that are causing devastating floods. the rain and fast moving floodwaters followed a tropical storm that swamped an area noerkt of tokyo. stranded residents waited to be rescued. officials say they cannot keep up. houses and cars were swept away by overflowing rivers and at least one person is missing. >> in las vegas federal aviation investigators still doan know what caused the engine of a british airway plane to burst into flames. it had started on its way to london tuesday when flames started shooting out of the left engine. the pilot slammed on the brakes.

aviation experts say the pilots acted quickly. >> clearly the pilots displayed tremendous professionalism. >> there were 157 passengers and 13 crew on board. 27 people were taken to hospitals with minor injuries. and the partial collapse of an old hangar at newark liberty airport is under investigation. the hangar was being demolished when it started to cave in yesterday. nine workers were inside the building. four sustained general injuries. they've all taken jabs at donald trump and see him do nothing but distance himself from the polls. this morning trump is taking heat from two other presidential contenders who have been on the rise. >> if anybody can show me how you can actually round up these

"national geographic" announced a partnership with rupert murdoch's fox. it will control the magazines, maps, and tv production. it's already in part of a joint venture with fox. fox said there are no immediate plans to change the magazine.
