from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". just miserable day to work outside or, frankly, do anything outside. a rainy thursday, that could slide right into the weekend. not what you want to hear. good afternoon, i'm erika von tiehl. pat is on special assignment. we want to get the first look at the forecast right now with meteorologist, kyla, and we are hoping we have a decent weekends. how are we looking today? >> it is an all day affair it,

will not and quick one, seeing different spots catching this as we go along. let's get right to it, talk about it, i've seen pretty nasty storm clouds out there. i want to start with live look at the neighborhood network, this one rolling across cape may, middle township high school. if i look at the radar here, you can see what's going on. right now, they're getting hit, there is a lot of lightning associated with this, too, as i zoom, in see the lightning hugging the shore line, heaviest showers staying off shore. but i have to tell you, you think you could so pretty heavy downpours there, too. philadelphia, light sprinkles, not too worried about that, we will see another round of showers coming our way, 57 degrees in philadelphia, 80 millville, 79 in atlantic city, still feeling the muggy feeling out there. the dew point are high. our temperatures, though, will only go up to the low 80s today in philadelphia, and you can see, there in the poconos, just at 69 degrees. so, it is going to be little bit after run here today. cloudy skies, scattered showers, storms, some locally heavy downpours still to come. much cooler today, humidity,

not gone until tomorrow. so, erika, it is a little bit of rough ride, i'm afraid rush hour this afternoon not great. we'll talk about a weekend when i come back in a few moments. >> hopefully better news there. developing right now, man accused of kidnapping a woman as she walked down a philadelphia street and then holding her captive for three days, last year, this man tells a judge, he's guilty of that crime. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones, joins us now at the federal courthouse in center city with the very latest, todd? >> reporter: erika, in federal court here this morning, the suspect, delvin barnes, tried to offer up an explanation, as to why he randomly kidnapped a woman right off a philadelphia street. >> chilling surveillance video captured the 22 year old woman walking on coulter street in germantown, the november kidnapping, led to all-out manhunt, that tracked suspect delvin barnes to a maryland parking lot, where the victim was rescued. this morning if federal court, barnes pled guilty to one count of kidnapping. he told the judge, the

abduction started out as a robbery, but adding he panicked. the 38 year old said he was desperate, that he ran out of money and was trying to get to virginia, to see his daughter one last time before turning himself into authorities there. the 38 year old accused of kidnapping, raping, assaulting 16 year old girl about a month before abducting his second victim in philadelphia. the investigation also revealed, he sexually exploited the 22 year old. >> and the guilty plea here this morning, also, covers that case in virginia. now, later on in january barnes is expected as part of this deal to be sentenced to 35 years behind bars. reporting live from the federal courthouse in old city, todd quinones, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> todd, thank you. the papal visit to philadelphia is a little more than two weeks away, and preparations are really ramming up. >> this after innocent we expect update on the city plans, but right now krause preparing eakin's oval for the papal stage. greg argos joins us on the parkway where the pope will celebrate mass in his stay in the city. hard to get work started with the rain, good afternoon. >> good afternoon, really was. right in you you can see, just drizzling, which is great news. but earlier it was coming down in droves. in fact, workers here are putting together this structure you see right here behind me there is gray structure, which is actually ground protection, and over here if you take a look, see all of this material that is being set up in the distance, coming hereby the truckloads. that will eventually become the papal stage. but, not for a few more days. take a lock, at some of this video from about an hour ago. the rain really pouring, but those workers still putting together protective covering here on the gown. we're told this is the area of course where the papal stage will eventually be built. of course, pope francis expected here, on saturday, to hope the festival of families, then sunday the papal mass will be held. tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people will pack this area.

we were able to speak this morning with one of the operations managers, and she explains how this will be a pretty long process. take a listen. >> so, right now what we're doing, ground protection, securing the area, securing the space, make sure we're keeping the land and preserving all of that other good stuff. outside of that building materials, no major building happening. >> no major, but you can still see workers right here, despite the drizzling rain, possibly some heavier rain, later on this afternoon, putting together more of the base right now. so, of course, it is going to be quite a process, we're told by one of the workers the actual stage itself will be constructed come this tuesday. we're live here near the art museum, greg argue owes, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> greg, thank you. there are just 16 days left until the papal visit stay with cbs-3 and cbsphilly.com for complete coverage. >> four people were sent to the hospital after fire rips through a townhome development in bear, delaware.

don moore had shared these photos with us from the scene. firefighters arrived at three rivers road just before 4:00 a.m. to find flames shooting through the roof of that property. a family of four escaped from that home and took themselves to a hospital. expected, the cause of the fire is under investigation. >> meanwhile one person was dead and another seriously injured, after they were hit by a car crossing basin road in new castle around 11:30 last night. thirty-six year old melissa living stone was killed. she and 37 year old robert spencer were not in a marked cross-walk when they were hit by a car. it was driven by 51 year old rg thorton. thorton was not injured in that accident. >> donald trump drawing almost all of the attention so far, gop candidates for president, and new pole numbers show the donald is not slowing down any time soon. but correspondent craig boswell shows us comment about one of his rivals, drawing

backlash today. presidential candidate donald trump is known for making blunt remarks. but, a comment he made about his opponent, carly fee rena, has drawn swift criticism. in a article for rolling stone magazine, trump says, would anyone vote for that? can you imagine that, the face of our next president, i mean, she a woman, and i'm not supposed to say bad things, but really folks, come on, are we serious in trump called into fox and friends to try and clarify his remarks. >> i am talking about persona, not talking about look. >> she responded on megan kelly's shows. >> i'm not going to spends a single cycle wondering what done al trump means but maybe just maybe i'm getting under skin a little bit because i am climbing in the tolls. >> trump topped out in newly-released pole, and ben carson separating himself from the pact, in second place with ten-point jump. on the democratic side, hillary clinton summer slide continues. bernie sanders has taken slight lead at 41% among

children about aggression, and also, how to have a healthy respectful relationship with coaches and teachers. >> joining us now, psychologist, doctor monica mandel, founder of love matters llc. thanks for coming in. talking about relationship between man and woman but rather you and your kids and also coaches and your student. this kind of aggress that we see is there good aggression and bad aggression? what do youy? >> absolutely, we have all heard the term be assertive, not aggressive watch this means, when you have a behavior that has conviction, purpose and determination, that's positive. when you show a behavior that is impulsive, reaction area, usually, that does not have good consequences. so we want to teach our children to do things in a positive, determined way, but not to cross the line. you go to the games, sometimes the parents can be worse than the kids in terms every yelling at the coach, yelling at the referees. do parent really need to set that example for their

children to learn from them, how to behave at these sporting event? >> absolutely, i can see from my own experience, having gone to many sporting events with my children, sometimes it is the parents that are the problem. they need to show restraint on the side lines. they need to not be sore losers, cheer for both team, not bee rate their own children. if there is a bad call, which there is always going to be about a bad call one week or another, they cannot charge on the field screaming and yelling at the referees. >> right. and go your kid whether they are doing something similar. now, we're all seen a kid, to teacher, to coach, maybe friends, how do you teach kids to have that respect, but still walk the line of being assertive and standing up for themselves, if somebody isn't appropriate, knowing what to do. how do you walk that line do youy? >> it start with the parent. so how they speak to each other, how they speak to their children how they speak to their piers, very important. also, when a conflict a rises,

frustration, when you're angry, have the parents deal with that and the tools that the kids view is what they're going to do. is it anger back, is it calm, cool, communication? this is what the kids see, and this is what they emulate. >> only about 30 seconds left, but i want to touch on. >> this this aggression seems to be so embedded with sports, that we cheer on when hockey players hit each other. what does that say? what do we need to focus snob. >> we as audience enjoy the physicality of these sports, we also enjoy when a coach slams down clipboard, aims flaring, faces are all red, they don't like the call. but what we need to understands is that after a minute, economy back it the side lines, and they become professional, and they continue the game. so, those on the field need to remember, that we the audience are looking at them enjoying

network, just massive cloud rolling in. you know you have got trouble when you see something like that. >> check it out, pretty amazing, that's big set up for a storm. still starting some of that. now, i want to get to what's happening in philadelphia, because we are socked in, look at this, we've had some lighter rain come in, heavier showers, casino of had on and off here, and now we are actually under a flood advisory, it is for the urban areas, then also for any areas around small streams. and that's still 4:00 p.m. today. because in the urban areas, get a lot of run offer because of the cement. see right now just had heavier showers roll through there. you see them in the red and the orange. starting to get little bit best err, but more on the way. and then we take a look where the pictures were coming from. look at this, cape may, just skirting you, another batch of showers, and rain, and look at all of the lightning off shore thankfully with this one. but, this is not going to end quickly, folks. we've got to get through the afternoon, too, see again all of the heavy rain heading through lancaster, harrisburg, rush hour this afternoon could

be real tricky. rain totals so far, preliminary, lots of rain still falling over an inch and a half in haddonfield, doylestown about, an inch, you can see there the last three under an inch, philadelphia about half inch. but again, we will be adding to the totals, no doubt about it, it is a good thing that we've gotten some rain. haven't had rain in a while. we do have spots considered dry, in the latest drought monitor, not terrible drought, but certainly we have been dry. we have had deficit of rain about three and a half inches since august 1st, and no measurable rain since august 20th. so, it say that we're due is a understatement. temperatures, 75 degrees in philadelphia, we hit the 80 degrees mark in millville. little cooler, though, as we head further west. lancaster we have showers rolling, about 70 degrees, it is muggy out there, though, right? feels very humid when you walk out the door. let me track this for in you future weather, show you how this works out. we get into the midnight hour. we start to see some of these pushy way, not until the overnight we start to see this clear out. now there is another round of showers coming our way saturday. friday looking good. saturday afternoon, though, we

will be dealing with a little bit more. so today, stormy weather, humid, showers, storms, there is the caveat, though, 81 degrees. yes, not bad. sixty-five for our overnight tonight. it will start to taper off tonight setting us up for pretty nice friday. so looking good on friday. i think we will get some sunshine in there, low 80s, most importantly, kill the humidity. that has been killing us. now, look at the weekend, though, casino of interesting. few showers to expect saturday afternoon possibly sunday. but temperatures, now in the upper 70s sunday. >> you and i have been talking to each other 5:00, 90s. >> unbelievable, sixth heatwave we've had. >> enjoy the rain, get a little break. >> thank you, let's clear the air. there are no limits on the amount of carbon pollution power plants can... release. and our senator, pat toomey, led the fight to keep it that way. carbon pollution, a major cause of climate change, leads to more asthma attacks in children.
