search and rescue operation, at this hour. here in atlantic city we can see weather conditions are not ideal for a search and rescue mission like this. there is heavy cloud cover as you can see here out over the atlantic ocean, also, a steady rain is falling as well. so we are continuing to monitor the situation, the faa is continuing to keep us abreast of what is happening, and of course we will bring you more information as we get more details. we're live from atlantic city, natasha brown, for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". natasha, thank you. turning now to our other top story tonight, storms moving through the the area right now, our camera caught people trying to get out of the rain, as the poured down today, and spring garden. and more is heading our way. meteorologist kate bilo is live with the first lot at forecast, kate. >> reporter: we have been dealing with this heavy rain all day long, and, since this morning and heavy rain continuing to push through the area, and good news, if there is any good news, the rain is weakening a little bit as this batch of rain moves in the

philadelphia area. you can see over the past hour or so, the yellow and orange shaded areas start to tape tore a uniform green. this means a moderate steady rain is coming down but it does mean that the storm is starting to push away and starting to weaken a bit. steady rain is expect through the next couple of hours, at least, it the is just now pushing into philadelphia still pockets of that heavier rain over portions of montgomery county, and, and, 422, and and, that will certainly, and, traffic here this evening. flash flood watch doesn't remain in effect until 8:00 tonight. still with the heavy rain coupled with the heavy rain we saw earlier, facing the threat for flash flooding, especially in the areas, and, creeks and streams that could breach their banks. number of flood advisories still in effect from the lehigh valley, poconos, berks county, bucks, montgomery counties and chester county off mercer county under a flood advisory until 6:30.

what to expect for rest of tonight? well, scattered showers and thunderstorms. heavy at times. soaking downpours will continue, we will end up with a general one to 3 inches of have rain meaning still an additional inch or so could fall through next several hours and that threat for flash flooding. worst of it moves out by 8:00 tonight. coming up we will have better news for end of the week and start of the weekend coming up in the seven kay forecast. ukee and jessica. well, phillies make a major change in the front office as they rebuild for the the future. >> today the organization announced the firing of the general manager reuben amaro, junior and "eyewitness sports" reporter leslie van arsdal is live at citizens bank park with the details, leslie. >> reporter: you both know ruben amaro, junior had taken a lot of heat the past couple of years and president andy macphail said he knew that the fans were not happy and he was ready to make a fresh start. after seven years with the phillies, the team has decided to part ways with general manager reuben amaro, junior. >> i didn't think this one

would be as hard as it turned out to be, but again, i've got, i'm charged with the certain responsibility, i have a responsibility to the franchise, the fans, ownership, to do what i think is best and get this thing back to where it was as quickly as i can. >> reporter: amaro became gm of the phillies days after they won 2008 world series, they made it to the post season following three seasons. for now scott proflock would be the interim gm. he said he was shocked when he heard the news. >> i was stunned. i was just surprised. >> reporter: phillies manager pete mackanin says he gets it. >> it was a sad day for me as well as a lot of people but i have been in the game for 47 years. ruben fired me at one point. i have been fired, i have been traded, i have been waved, i have been everything happens to you if you are in the game

"eyewitness news" reporter david spunt is live outside the camden county animal shelter in blackwood with more. david, we hear the dogs. >> reporter: jessica, since it started raining we stepped inside. dogs are excited with the live tv cameras but reason freeholders decided to hold this event at camden county animal shelter is because they want to make sure that the animals here at the shelter go directly to the pet stores and now they say they have legislation to stop puppy mills and make this actually happen. in just days camden county freeholders hope to inact norman's law a way to prevent pet stores in the county from selling animals that come from

puppy mills. >> in camden county, there will be no commercial sale of dogs or cats that come from these atrocious, atrocious facilities. >> reporter: camden county freeholder jeff nash introduced the legislation after his dog named norman, animal activist call it the puppy mill breeder system and they claim local pet stores use it all the time. joining nash, nancy as a who insists that her dog had severe medical problems because she came from a puppy mill. >> we tried everything to save her and spent thousands of doll ars, close to almost $8,000 but her condition worsened and we had to put her down one week before her second birthday. >> reporter: as freehold's announced the new legislation in blackwood cherry hill residents braved the rain and held up signs protesting anything to do with puppy mills. >> we would like to see more rescued pets getting into pet

stores, rather than puppy mills. >> reporter: anti puppy mill activist admit change won't come overnight. legislation also protects cats as they too are found in many in mills across the country. and, the mill ban will go into effect next thursday, here in camden county. it is important to also point out that camden county is one of the handful of count ace cross america that has similar legislation to actually ban puppy and cat mills across the country. we are live from the camden county animal shelter, david spunt for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". also in the news tonight a man caught on surveillance video kidnapping a woman off a philadelphia street last year pleaded guilty in federal court today. delvin barnes admitted to abducting the the woman as she walk in germantown last november, and holding her captive in maryland for three days. sentencing hearing is scheduled for january. barnes faces three years in prison. philadelphia police are investigating, a series of

sexual assaults in germantown. two women were attacked on tuesday within blocks of each other. "eyewitness news" reporter real solomon is live in the neighborhood with more on the search for a suspect sexual predator. >> reporter: well, jessica, police tell me that each of these cases, the suspect grabbed his victim from behind, pulled her into a driveway or an alley way and committed these crimes. as you might imagine it has neighbors here very shaken up. police in germantown are stepping up patrol after the reported sexual assault, of three women. >> we have really sick people out here. >> reporter: two of the attacks happened tuesday, one on the 5400 block of wakefield street in broad daylight, second that evening at 8:20 on the 400 block of east locust avenue. police source tells cbs-3 that a third victim reported another attach before tuesday, and fit pattern. >> i'm three blocks away from that. i got kid and everything. that ain't safe at all. >> you never know who will do what, very scary.

starting construction on the wheelchair ramp at american legion hall in high street. >> we brought folks down from the the state historical department and they indicated that they believe that it is from the 18th century either revolutionary war, possibly war of 1812. >> reporter: shape and size indicate that the cannon was from a ship but who owned it. interestingly both british and americans fired on burlington city. next question why was it buried. perhaps, to keep out, and, people didn't want to look at it. >> after world war one there was an anti war sentiment and some of the cannons that were in town, displayed in town, may have been buried. >> reporter: jeff from the burlington county historical society has his own theories, he thinks cannon comes from the war of 1812 era where similar artillery was manufactured in new jersey. it is also time period when burlington city resident captain james lawrence famously declared motto don't give up the ship. he thinks cannon is authentic

it is starting to weaken, that is good news and this should be last of it once we get this round out, we have nicer weather to look forward to we will continue to have our eye on the storm tonight. sky cam three which we can see is looking pretty obscure that view of the city with the low clouds overhead and light rain falling at the moment in the city of philadelphia and you can see traffic looking slow there, along 16th street and traffic is slow just about every where tonight thanks to the puddles and ponding on the roadway and it has been with us all day long. look at the the time lapse. this is from leader ship academy in philadelphia and starts this morning. low clouds, i'll set in motion. quick downpour comes through and then we will see clouds break, there is another downpour and then clouds break again and on and off these pockets of heavy rain all day. another round poised to move in right now. lets peak on storm scan three showing again the heavy rain now moving into the city of philadelphia, you can see it lines up from the poconos down into portion s of delaware. you can see how it has

decreased in intensity over past two or three hours. the it had red and yellow shading right about here. now it is mainly just green and then starting to lighten up. actual back edge of this system is right here h this will push out in the next couple hours and get back to nicer weather. but rain amounts we have seen over an inch and a half of rain in many locations, 1.77 in need wood. trenton 1.68 in mercer county. a new daily ron. smyrna 1.35. woodbine 1.15. over an inch in bala cynwyd. by 7:00 we have rain generally light to moderate. by eight or 9:00 this tapers to a few showers. that will continue through the overnight hours. tomorrow morning we will see sun return return and by afternoon things look nice. problem is we have another system to watch this weekend, not as big a deal that is one but notice a few showers creeping in by saturday afternoon. between now and 8:00 still areas of heavy rain. eight to midnight scattered showers and cloudy skies mainly our only concern after midnight.
