looking for the driver who hit an officer on a motorcycle and kept going. authorities the distinctive color of the car will help them catch the person responsible. good evening, i'm ukee washington. >> i'm jessica dean. hit-and-run happened at the intersection of fourth street and morton avenue in chester. "eyewitness news" reporter david superintendent is live outside crozer compelled chef ho*d hospital where the officer is recovering tonight. david. >> reporter: jessica, i just heard from a police source and they tell me they're still looking for the driver of the car and the car. they're going to search for as long as it takes after all this driver almost killed a police officer and that police officer will spend the night here at the hospital for extra observation. chester police officer daniel hoffman was on his way back to headquarters friday night when a man driving a red or burgundy pontiac hit him then sped off. it all happened on morton avenue across from harrah's casino just before 3:00. >> any time, anyone hits

somebody, has an accident and leave the scene that's very frustrating. >> chester mayor john linder rush to the hospital to see hoffman. >> he joined police commissioner joseph bail. >> the bike went over, went 30 to 40 yards down from where he ended up on the highway. >> reporter: by the time paramedic got to the scene, the driver was long gone. >> those motorcycles are full size harley david sops. you can't miss the fact of the lights and everything on that motorcycle. >> reporter: commissioner bail told "eyewitness news" hoffman is a 15-year veteran of the force and investigates accidents like this one where he became the victim. >> going to take a lot of work for us to find out who did it burt we'll fine out. >> reporter: police are loo looking for a late 99s model pontiac brand free burgundy or dark red with a green hood or trunk. if you have any information call police. i also want to point out they're looking at possible surveillance cameras from surrounding businesses to see if that can help yield any information. we're live tonight in up land,

david spunt cbs3 "eyewitness news". all right, david, thank you. also in chester, a child pornography raid turns deadly. agents were serving a warrant in the 600 block of highland avenue early this morning. authorities say when they entered the home a man pulled a gun on them and shots were fired. the man was killed. three other suspects were taken into custody. major changes in the weather are ahead for the weekend including the chance of some rain meteorologist kate bilo is the sky deck and kate, what do you think? wash out potential fort weekend. >> not a wash out ukee. tomorrow afternoon showers and storms will roll through and some of those storms could get a little gusty at times so especially for your saturday afternoon and evening, if you have outdoor plans, it's a big season for birthday parties, weddings things like that outdoors. definitely keep an eye on the sky tomorrow as these showers move through. you can see on storm scan3 tracking showers of showers moving from michigan to toronto all the way down into tennessee right now. those showers lifting north and

those lost. bucks county tonight, a service was held to honor and remember the pennsylvania victims of 9/11. "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco has more from the garden of reflection in lower makefield. ♪ >> reporter: the fountains have stopped at bucks county's memorial garden on the evening of september 11th. the community remembers the 18 bucks county victims killed 14 years ago. as the sunset in lower makefield, their names were re read. >> lorraine sing. united airlines flight 93. >> in moments of tragedy and crisis there is no better place to turn than to our god. hundreds lit candles and said a prayer fort victims and their families remembering their sacrifice. the names of all of the nearly 3,000 victims are etched in the memorial. >> we just pray that everybody remembers this day. >> reporter: james mow stein and her husband felt an

important to commemorate this day as a family. >> we're trying very hard to show our kids who were very young five and two this is an important day in our history and it should be remembered for over. >> reporter: the fountains erupted and crowds quietly paid their respects. earlier in the day, at the gardens of reflection, a bell recounted each time the tower was hit and each building fell. family members like tara bane are still hoping for healing. >> today is always a difficult day but coming here to the garden make it a little easier. the am of community that comes out to support glass for pham family members of the buck county victims it's harder to believe that 14 years a past since not a day has gone by that they've not remembered their loved ones loft. in lower makefield township, i'm diana rocco for cbs3 "eyewitness news". earlier today, at ground zero bells rang and tears fell as family and others gathered to remember. 2,733 people died when both

world trade center towers collapsed. many clutched photos of their loved ones as the names of the victims were read allowed. the president and first lady today observed solemn moment on the south lawn of the white house. secretary of defense ash carter led remembrances at the pentagon every year a large american flag there is unfurled over the side of the building. it was followed by a wreath laying. in shanksville, pennsylvania, at the memorial for united flight 93 the names of passengers and crew were read allowed. the ceremony took place on hill where a new visitor center has been built overlooking the crash site. two weeks from tomorrow pope francis arrives here in philadelphia. his visit to the city of brotherly love is expected to draw hundreds of thousands but tonight, some who practiced a different faith are expressing concern. as our natasha brown tells us the unprecedented security measures for the papal visit and the world meeting of families are at the heart of the issue. >> at this point, he shouldn't be doing this.

if they were going to do it they needed to tell people a month or two ago. >> reporter: city controller alan butkovitz isn't mincing words he's out reached the city's latest announcement on parking restrictions and together enforcement during the papal visit will disrupt the holiest day of jewish calendar, yom kippur. >> it occurs tuesday night september 22nd and wednesday september 23rd. it's a fast day. it's a day for forgiveness. and it is the one day of the year that almost all jews are in synagogue. >> butkovitz fired off this strongly worded letter to mayor nutter on friday voicing concerns from philadelphia's jewish community with the city announcing together enforcement beginning on september 20th inside the traffic box. butkovitz is concerned that congregants won't be able to park at synagogues within restricted areas. >> number one because it will be eliminating on street parking and, number two, it will be forcing neighborhood residents to fill up all the available parking lots. so the plans that congregants

may have about how they'll get to synagogue are totally disrupted. >> reporter: mayor nutter has announced that residents within the secure zones will need to move their vehicles or face together. most vehicles will need to be moved by sunday september 20th but if you have a $20 placard to park in a ppa garage you'll have until until september 24th to move your vehicle. still many in the jewish community are hoping the parking restrictions can be deferred in light of the jewish holiday. >> the only solution that i can see is they defer this off street rule until thursday. >> reporter: well we were able to speak with a spokesperson from the mayor's office a authority time ago. she tells us they've only found one synagogue witness secure vehicle perimeter that would be affected. however, they'll go back and look at this they'll make sure synagogues are work wig paa to make sure they have placards for congregants so they're cars will not be towed. live in spring garden tonight,

federal prosecutors are dropping charges against a temple university professor accused of trading u.s. secrets with china. xi scene in this university video was charged with four counts of wide fraud in may. he was part of temple's physics department. he was trying to obtain a ground breaking piece of technology to share with china in return for money and prestige. >> campaign 2016 a shake up in

hammock, swimming pools. >> rafts. >> now that we've got labor day behind it and now the weather starting to kind of feel like summer might be behind us as well. >> we were just saying friday football frenzy. we're talking fall and maybe a little bit of hint of fall in the weather as well this weekend and you know it's a welcome change for lot of folks. we've had a lot of heat over the past couple of weeks. finally getting rid of the streaks heat and humidity and brying cooler weather in. we have a return to warmer conditions later next week let's start a off with the near term. friday night not bad at all i thought to myself as i walk out on the sky deck just a little bet of a breeze out there, definitely not cold but it's not going to be long now before we need to start grabbing those jackets before we head outside. not long before i'm bundled up in a coat and gloves outside on the sky deck. enjoy these warm summer nights while we've got them. center city looking good. time lapse video in margate the clouds were slow to clear today. they bring their stuff on the

beach, trying to get a beach day in. after a couple of hours everybody clears out because the clouds really hung on down the shore today. in contrast beautiful day in the city. great sunset and now things look beautiful as well as we look live from across the river in palmyra, new jersey, 69 degrees. here the front we're watching producing showers from toronto down into portions of the deep south this is all pushing east. it is lifting when you see a front lift like this, it's an indication it is weaken wagon we're watching tomorrow is an area of low pressure that will form along this boundary and bring the threat for enhanced showers and thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon to our area and we're still under the influence of that lotion we head into sunday. right now 72 at the airport. 66 at the atlantic city airport. cool down the shore got a pair of 66s in stone harbor and 64 right now at cape may. definitely one of the nights down the shore you need a sweatshirt. we start saturday 6am with lots of sun. the clouds increase by mid afternoon and it's in the late afternoon hours that scattered showers and thunderstorms will pop up.

a few of these could pack a punch we're in marginal risk zone for severe weather doesn't like these storms will be widespread severe but just the chance to a few gusty winds and heavy downpours. enhanced rainfall along the coast before it clears out. sunday under the influence of that low. we'll see some clouds, a few breaks of sun maybe a spray shower 5:00 p.m. it look like this is all moving out. setting the stage for a beautiful start to next week. and it is a cooler pattern. we're talking 70s on sunday. 70s again on monday. then we're right back to the 80s. for the overnight time frame here, partly cloudy, it's comfortable 65 degrees. headed into your saturday, look for sunshine in the morning but by mid afternoon maybe even late morning those clouds will move on in and in the afternoon, scattered showers and storms. not a total wash out but some enhanced rainfall is possible not a bad afternoon to maybe take in movie or do stuff around the house you haven't gotten to recently because every week has been so nice. we've just wanted to be outside all weekend long. if you're down the shore this

weekend again, sunshine early, the clouds then role in. better chance for thunderstorms in the evening down the shore. sunday can't rule out a shower. but i think for the most part it's a pretty quiet sunday down the shore. rosh hashanah begins around sundown on sunday. 71 degrees. mostly cloudy and breezy for the start of that holiday.
