all happen. >> reporter: it doesn't seem real. worse to see the pilot moments before his death. >> the plane smashed up against the tree. >> reporter: unthinkable to realize that pilot is a close family friend on his last flight. >> and i waved to him. >> reporter: saturday unlike any day. he watched a man slammed into a wooded area. police identified that man as 65-year-old pilot david sees. >> it's not everyone crashes a plane in your front yard. >> he took off in his cessna 150 and was flying over atco, new jersey about 11:30 saturday morning. the moment when his plane dipped

into an area and crashed. sees the pilot and the only person on board was killed. too close, too soon and too sad. >> he loved to fly and i asked him when are you going to take me out on your plane. >> still a lot to learn including just what brought that plane down and the pilot's destination all of which now the subject matter of a federal investigation with the faa. reporting from waterford township, cbc 3, eyewitness news. >> this is the second small plane crash this weekend. a moony 120 went down off the coast of atlantic city on thursday. the coast guard suspended its search on friday. radio transmissions reveal air traffic control lost contact with 68-year-old michael moore for two hours after he took off from gaylord, michigan. we've been tracking showers all night long and we're hoping for a little bit of a nicer

today tomorrow. justin has the very latest in his first look at the forecast. >> i do have some better news. it looks like we are slowly drying things out. most of the widespread showers has ended tonight, maybe a sprinkle or too, just some clouds over the region right now showing on storm scan 3. we're not going to clear out totally but i do think we get a little sunshine for sunday afternoon. heavy showers look to be done for the weekend now. today we picked up .200 inch of rain. that's it. this is what's impressive. the weekends have been dry. july 4th is the last time we had measurable rain on the weekend. 71 in trenton, 72 in philadelphia. we are seeing some 60s in reading right now and upper 60s in the lehigh valley. koomg down to 50s for reading and allentown early sunday

morning. mid 60s around philadelphia. we will see some sunshine tomorrow. there could be an isolated shower for the afternoon. high temperatures cooler than average mid 70s at philadelphia and the shore points in the poconos a cool day, maybe a shower or two, 64 degrees for the afternoon high temperature. coming up with the full forecast, we'll talk about the shower chance for the rest of the weekend, below average temperatures, and we're setting up for another dry stretch. check out the 7-day forecast coming up in just a few minutes. >> this just in to us. police have found an elderly couple missing from the billingham retirement community. 76-year-old dominic jampo and his 77-year-old wife were found disoriented in the woods. police say the couple's car was find in the driveway of a home near the woods. they were taken to pottstown hospital for evaluation. the jampos have been missing since friday when they left their home to go grocery

shopping. so we're happy to report they have been found. also developing, crews are on the scene of a water main break. a 40-inch main republic toured at hunting park and west moorland toont tonight. it flooded the intersection. crews are working quickly to repair the main and try to restore service to all those affected. and now the search continues in burlington county for an escaped prisoner tonight. officers were bringing this man, michael mims into the burlington county jail this morning when he slipped away. police say he escaped into downtown mount holly still in handcuffs and no shows. he's facing charges of unlawful handgun possession in delaware county. police are advising anyone in the area to be careful if they're outside. anyone who sees him or knows where he is should call police immediately. authorities charged the former president of dover little league with stealing money from

that organization. 52-year-old william barry turned himself in to police. investigators say he spent fund raising money and also used a little league credit card to make unauthorized personal purchases totalling more than $4,000. he was released after posting more than $7,000 bail. a wildfire is burning everything in its path tonight in northern california. it is devouring homes in lake county right now. this fast-moving fire is just one of the wildfires burning near sacramento. it has grown to more than 100 square miles. the flames have destroyed more than a dozen structures and are now threatening thousands of homes. firefighters were able to contain a small percentage of the fire tonight but it is still just eating away at more ground as quickly as possible. two crew members of a movie starring tom cruise have died in a plane crash in the colombian andes.

they were killed when the aircraft went down yesterday. a third person has been hospitalized in intensive care. bad weather has been blamed on this accident. cruise was not on board the plane when it crashed. a powerful explosion ripped through a crowded restaurant in central india today killing at least 89 people. dozens of people were injured when the roof of the building caved in with the force of the explosion. police say the explosion was caused by a cooking gas cylinder and that triggered a second blast of mine detonatorings stored illegally nearby. the restaurant was packed with people having breakfast at the time this blast occurred. and former tennis star james blake wants the new york city police officer who tackled him to the ground on wednesday fired. today blake said he may sue the city if he doesn't see any changes with the way that police deal with the public. surveillance video shows blake standing outside of a hotel. when that officer tackled him.

authorities say it was a case of mistaken identity. police were investigating credit card fraud. blake said it was an unnecessary use of force. event organizers meantime typically hope for a big turnout, but the stand down event in bucks county is an exception. it's a three-day camp helping vets find common ground. >> reporter: for these retired servicemen and women, the war never really ended. >> people want to survive and they survive the best way they can and sometimes it's not too pretty. >> reporter: buses brought 100 men and women from across the philadelphia area to levittown. they're veterans and homeless. >> there's a lot of pain. we're trying to do what we can for the veterans to benefit them. >> reporter: richard has been volunteering at stand down for 12 years. the event itself is in its 22nd. >> there are some medical

doctors, we have eye doctors and barbers and i think even acupuncture. >> on top of that, there's food, entertainment along with lots of nostalgia. >> reporter: stand down is a time when troops could rest and rejuvenate before having to head back on this battlefield. >> i want them to come back not homeless, but someone who can reach back to a homeless veteran and help them like they've been helped. i was a homeless veteran myself in 2004 and i was homeless on the streets of philadelphia for athd months. >> reporter: that year he attended stand down as a guest and has returned every year since as a volunteer. he credits it with saving his life. and now. >> i have a home in north carolina. >> reporter: he's here to show others that the battle can be won and that for these three days it's okay to embrace the jendle order to stand down.

the republican field and former neurosurgeon ben carson questioned the brass billionaire's face. >> i don't in any way deny my faith in god. and i think that probably is a big difference. >> reporter: carson later apologized. he's surged to second place with one new poll showing him within striking distance in iowa. trump still claimed the outsider man tell. >> i feel sort of foolish because guys are coming up to me saying i want to put millions of dollars, one guy, $5 million and i'm turning him down. i say i don't want to it. >> reporter: trump is also promising to release a tax plan in the next few weeks that takes on hedge funds. he says hedge fund managers will have to pay up because they laugh all the way to the bank. you don't typically hear tough talk from wall street toward

and pennsylvania. that pocket of energy is going to rotate through tomorrow. we're he going to have some clouds around. steady rain has pretty much ended as it's moving to the northeast. so improving conditions for the rest of the weekend. certainly cooling things down, we're in a cooler weather pattern as the jet stream dips to our south. average highs 80 degrees, didn't make it to that today. upper 70s with the clouds and showers. mid 70s at best for the highs on sunday and we're still keeping it in the 70s on monday. a little taste of fall going on here and next week we're back to the 80s. basically low pressure over northern pennsylvania right now, still in the southwest wind, temperatures milder, but you go to the flip side, the backside of the system, northerly winds, look at that 54 in buffalo. it looks like tomorrow night we have a good shot of seeing some 50 even here in center city. we're back to mostly cloudy

skies on sunday. temperatures in the mid 70s. maybe a stray shower into the afternoon. high pressure builds back in for monday and this just sits here for several days. that brings back full sunshine. each day gets a little warmer but humidity levels stay on the lower side so it's a comfortable warmth in our forecast. 30% chance of rain tomorrow. again the key word here is isolated. don't cancel the outdoor plans. monday, tuesday, wednesday we'll keep it at a 0% chance. waking up tomorrow, sunday morning, sunshine with some clouds through early afternoon, should stay dry. it's mid to late afternoon we could see some spotty showers breaking out. that quiets down later on sunday night and monday back to full sunshine. there's the core of the cool air over the midwest right now. that's a pocket of energy that rotates on through tomorrow and on monday so that's what keeps the temperatures on the cooler side but then the jet stream starts to lift off to the north, we bring back some of the warmth starting on tuesday through much of next week. through the overnight, mostly

cloudy skies, slight chance for a shower, 64 for the low temperature, isolated shower possible tomorrow afternoon, some sunshine 75 degrees for the afternoon temperature. not the best beach day but a little better than what we had today. ocean water is nice in the mid 70s. west wind at 10 to 15. here's the extended forecast. we're back to full sun on monday. 77 degrees which is still below average for this time of year and again monday morning i think we're going to be waking up to 50s around the city and even some 40s up in the mountains and through the week lots of sunshine, each day a little bit warmer. humidity levels stay low so it's going to be back. >> sports highlights for us. >> football around the corner, the eagles may have another offensive weapon available. and the phils, they look

all right. let's talk about those phillies. >> an interesting night at the ballpark tonight. >> yeah. >> the rain put a damper on the start of the phillies and cubs game this evening as they began with the delay. the offensive explosions on both sides were delayed as well. we go to the seventh. this is ryan howard, he doubles to right field, that would open up a can for the phils in that inning. cesar hernandez sends them all home. that would make it 5-1 phils. the cubs would storm back in the top of the eighth inning. you can never count them out. they would score four times in that inning. that would make it 5-4 at that point. they would make it 5-5 in the
