>> this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". signs of the papal visit on the parkway, for the first time today, parks at the ben franklin parkway are shutdown, remain closed for nearly two weeks, of all of course part of the papal planning process, add noon, i'm erika von tiehl. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria joins us over at the oval, alex, a lot of work behind you there. how is it looking? >> whole lot of work, erika. we new these closures would be coming soon, just weren't sure how soon. but then not too long ago we learned that the time is apparently now, around 10:15,

we got traffic advisory, letting us know the inner drives both east and west of the ben franklin parkway, now closed from eakin's oval to 20th street. that did seem to catch some commuters by surprise this morning, let's take a lock from chopper three. closures going to remain in effect philadelphia tuesday, september 29th, so that's 12 days from now, two days post pope departure, notice, also, that the outer drives are still open, at least, for now. and this is all likely to make room for the massive construction project that's going on behind me. this is accustom stage being built. we know it is 100 feet wide, 90 feet deep. tens of thousands of feet of cable, have to be pulled in, and they'll be using the manpower of about 3,000, i think you can see some of them up there on the scaffolding right now, this is very, very big project. obviously, making room for that, so, once again, the inner drive, ben franklin parkway, now shutdown, from eakin's oval to 20th street, those outer drives are still open. but, likely, won't be for long. this is all likely to probably

affect some of the commuting that's going on in surrounding highways, so, you're going to want to plan accordingly until the pope come, and even two days after he leaves. reporting live, from the art museum steps, alexandria hoff, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> just the beginning, alex, thank you. as preparations continue across the region, for the papal visit and world meeting of families, pilgrims showing their entheusiasm. "eyewitness news" at st. denis parish in havertown. the church handed out free tickets first come, first serve to the pope sunday mass on the parkway. as you can see, look at that line, my goodness, stretched all the way down the block. one parishoner even camped out overnight to make sure she was first in line. >> i figure, i've camped out for some concerts in my life, isn't the pope more important, you know, so why not do it for the pope? >> good point. the church also handed out free ticket for next saturday's night festival of families. and, to coincide with the papal visit, franklin

institute showcasing treasures in a new exhibit over 2,000 years of vatican art and history will be on display. it will include personal momentos from pope benedict and saint john paul the second. as well as artwork by michaelangelo. the vatican splendors exhibit opens september 19th, and will run through february 15th. and, the countdown, just keeps ticking on, just nine days until pope francis arrives in philadelphia. stay with "eyewitness news" for the very latest information on air and on our website cbsphilly.com. in other news this noon, firefighter and resident are being treated for possible smoke inhalation after a fire in the rhawnhurst section of northeast philadelphia. that fire broke out around 9:00 this morning, in a two-story home the 2100 block of fuller street. firefighters controlled the blaze, in about 15 minute. investigators say that fire may have started in the basement, but so far, they've not determined the cause. well, just another beautiful day across the region, as our nice sunny

stretch continues, want to head back outside to the skydeck with kyle a. you might even need little sun black? >> full swing, i think today i need skydeck sunglasses because i have to tell you it is bright out here, beautiful. if you like it warm. you would say, this is going to be one of those perfect days. because, it is all coming together, we've got the sunshine, we've got the nice warm temperatures, we've also got pretty low humidity, as well, and just a light breeze, so, not bad at all. looking pretty good out here. that's for sure. so there it is, i would call this top ten day if you like it warm. keeping in mind, our average should be about 78, 79 degrees, and already surpassed that, in most spots, as you can see, 82 degrees right now in philadelphia, 81 in millville. check out wilmington, also at 82, and 81 in allentown, and atlantic city. if you're down the shore, now, if you notice, as we take a look at storm scan3, down the shore having few clouds, that's from disturbance to the south of us, not really going to affect us much, but will bring few clouds into your blue skies today of the mostly blue skies. also, have to look out for air

quality today. not terrific. those who have any casino of respiratory problems, need to look out, also that heat index, getting up there, and the uv index, as well, just standing out here i can feel. that will but it is going to be a beautiful run, and the next three days, whether you are in the city where it is 86 degrees today as a hi, see the mid 80s across the next three days, or if you are down the shore where we've got low 80s, sunshine, by the time we get to saturday high of 79. man if you took your vacation this week you are feeling pretty good about yourself. so, how long does this last? we've got 70s coming, as we get to next week, we will talk about that coming up in your seven day forecast, err dismay. >> thank you so much. philadelphia police searching for teenage girl, who may need her medication. sixteen year old bee ainge a riviera last seen north fairhill street sunday night around 6:30 p.m. police say she suffers from depression, and may need meds to control that condition. bianca is 5-foot three, with brown eyes, and black hair, and several tattoos. if you have seen her, you are asked to notify police.

turning now to campaign 2016, where gop presidential hopefuls are back on the campaign trail, a day after the second debate of the election season. eleven candidates took the stage including frontrunner, donald trump. cbs correspondent mark albert with the latest. >> ten men, took the stage in seem i valley, california, as part of the second gop presidential debate. but, it was one woman who stole the show. >> she is a person everybody is talking about this morning. >> going into that debate, half the audience had never heard my name, and didn't know i was running for president. >> carly fiorina scored big applause for her remarks about iran and planned parenthood. even bigger hit with her response about question about recent dom end -- comments trump made about fiorina looks. >> i think women all over this country heard very clearly what mr. trump said. >> donald trump talked the most during the debate, in part, because the frontrunner

>> grab p i can scene from china, more than 100 people returned to the hospital, many of them children, after fire at a building that housed a kindergarten class. firefighters and residents rescued all 303 children from that class, however, 92 of them along with 12 adult were taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. they're all expected to be okay. >> death and destruction now in chile, after 8.3 magnitude quake round the offer the coast of the northern part of the country. at least eight people are dead, more than 1 million have been forced from their homes. cbs correspondent chris van cleve in california where after effect of the quake are being felt along the west coast. >> the violence shaking caught on security camera, gang, around 8:00 wednesday night, the deadly quake toppled shelves, and levels roofs. >> sirens echoed as hundreds

ran into the streets of santiago, kurt, felt the tremors, in nevada, 40 miles east of the chile ann capitol. >> the building started to shake, shake little more, and more, and the elevator started to rattle a bit. and everybody realizes we were in a earthquake. >> dozen of smaller after shocks rattled the country throughout the night after the initial 8.3 magnitude quake. >> you know what ... >> tsunami waves caused flooding along the chile ann coast, what's left of the buildings show the extent of the destruction. more than million people were forced to evacuate their home. the quake sparked a tsunami advisory for hawaii and 300 miles of california's coastline, the coast guard says they're seeing increased swells up to about foot and choppy conditions, still, not things that are completely out of the ordinary for southern california this time of year. police are asking swimmers, and surfers, to stay out of the water. chris van cleve, cbs news, manhattan beach california.

>> it is gorgeous out there, but it is very, very much average. this is not normal for this time of year. so if you're thinking it is a little warm, you are correct. we should be about 78, 79 degrees. we are talking mid 80s today. so, let's take a look outside. that's where the action is. and look at this, it is beautiful. we are talking gorgeous blue skies, also singing the blue song, because you can't help but think about it when you walk outside. so center city, just lit up, with sunshine, and beautiful today. really, barely have a cloud in the sky. just some high clouds out there. that's what we're seeing all across the region, it is

beautiful. look at the temperatures, this is the region, you can see, 84 degrees in new york already. look at that, 82, in philadelphia. high pressure large and in charge keeping it nice and toast any places like washington, d.c., 81 degrees. air quality today, one down side, heat sometimes this happens. and today we're in the unhealthy category for sensitive groups. that means, you know, in i one with respiratory problems, sometimes the elderly, very young, careful, stay inside the air-conditioning. few clouds trying it make their way up, and where that's coming from low pressure system that's to the south of us, not really going to affect us, but so you know waist going on herement down off the coast of the carolinas, throwing clouds our way, next thing we will keep an eye on in the midwest, cold front trying to track across, what will eventually start to cool us down a bit. but, it will take its time, and it is not very strong. that will that means, 80s for your thursday, high pressure in control, friday same story, mid 80s, gorgeous, sunshine, get into saturday, we will still be dealing with the sunshine, see the front trying to make its way across, but the models kinds of saying not

going to bring us any rain. it will start to cool us down, bring clouds n so sunday expect some cloud cover, then we cool down. hey let's head to the beach. really, let all head to the beachment look at this, this is our live neighborhood network camera. you can see, all of the umbrellas out there, 73 degrees, gorgeous, wind, nice and calm. great day for stroll. right along the board walk, and that's what people are doing, enjoying this weather, and it is not just today, folks. if you are down the shore, it is going to be gorgeous, low 80s thursday and friday and check it out saturday. 79 degrees, and sunshine. does it get much better than that? like you won three in a row. jet stream, right now, pretty far to the north. that's allowing all of the warm air to stay in place. that will happen today, tomorrow, but then we start to see things change as we get into saturday. notice it starts dipping further to the south. start to see the lighter orange, the cooler air can make it way in, which means, yes, we will get back to where we should be temperature wise. but not until we get to next week really. we start to cool down sunday, but really we see the 70s on monday, and again, average hi, this time of year, 78 degrees.
