park in new jersey, in to center city. start see the clouds are breaking up. it will be getting better as we go on. how much, i want to point out the wind, 18-mile per hour wind coming out of the north, so it is a little brisk walking outside, be prepared, notice, really higher all way from mount pocono all the way to philadelphia, not quite so bad down the shore with the wind. taking live look at storm scan3, see the cloud cover, and it is going to be pushing out to sea as we go throughout our morning. that will leave us with sunshine this afternoon. hey, there is the good news, high of just 78 degrees today. that feeling certainly coming our way, high of 77 down the shore, little foggy start but getting better now, the visibility back, little morning fog as well until the poconos, will just be high of 68 degrees. so, we will talk seven day forecast, there is lots of 70s, good dose of sunshine, and we will also highlight what it will be like when pope francis is in town, weather wise, if you are going to be planning to take part in the papal visit. a lot of walking going on, nicole. so people need good weather for that. >> yes, good weather will be welcome.

kyla, thanks. now day two of pope francis historic john toy cuban and north america. live look in havana cuba where the pope said to celebrate outdoor mass. now one of the three, it is one of the three, he'll preside over, as you can see, thousands of people are thereto witness that historic event, yesterday, pope francis arrived in havana to cheering crowd, and military band, a lot of pomp and circumstance there. he was also greeted by cuba's president raoul castro. coming up within the hour, we will have much more on pope's visit to cuba with a live report from havana right here on cbs-3. pope francis may be in cuba but looking ahead to his advice knit philadelphia. i love. >> this video message from the holy father. he wants the city to know health be there. the people in philadelphia, when i come for the world meeting for families. ill shall there. because i will be there.

see you in philadelphia. >> oh, that just make me happy. preparations of course kicking into high gear here in philadelphia, and today, crews will begin the process of towing cars from the restricted zones. steve patterson with more on the stage preparations for next weekends' big event. >> in full swing. the signs many of us have either been anticipating, or dreading, for months, are starting to take shape on the parkway. the stage literally being set for the pope's arrival. >> this is one of the largest events to ever occur in the united state. >> scott is the president of the philadelphia based esm productions, this guy's done set up for the president, the dalai lama, and jay-z, but he says, this takes the cake. >> we've done some pretty large events. but his is definitely the largest event, has the most moving part. >> but with that, some headaches. traffic closures, and pedestrian restrictions, already in place, mainly for the safety and breathing room of workers on the job.

but look at what they're building. that will hundred foot wide arch already spread across the main stage, will be shown on 32 giant screams, lined all across the parkway you. >> real can i see this stage where we're belling it, from a mile away. but the work doesn't stop there. between saturday, and sunday, neck week, during the visit. with just hours to spare, they'll destroy most everything they've built for the celebration, to build something even more special. >> after saturday night, we will tear out the stage, build a sanctuary for the mass. and that is truly honor to be involved in something like that. >> as mentioned, all of the construction does mean road closures already in place, right here on the parkway, both the inner and outer lanes, are shutdown from eakin's oval to 20th street, and that remains in place until september 29th. the very last closure schedule to lift on october 4th. so plan accordingly, of course, all of this on our website at cbsphilly.com. for now reporting from the stems of the art museum, i'm

steve patterson, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> and local churches concerned about how they will feed the homeless on the parkway during the papal visit. chosen 300 ministries served hundreds every meals at 16th and the parkway. the organization says it is still waiting for word from the city on how to access the parkway to provide those meals within the secured zone. well, volunteers are getting ready for the world meeting of families, yesterday was check in day at the pennsylvania convention center. the more than 10,000 volunteers will be identified through the bright orange t-shirts they plan to wear. some will get to work on monday, day before the world meeting of families officially convenes, but most of the volunteers will be utilized saturday, sunday, when the pope visits philadelphia. >> i volunteered for special needs, people with wheelchairs, or unable to walk. >> this human services diagram. i'm special service coordinator also. so i'll be taking care of everybody. >> there you go. officials say all volunteers went through a thorough

after 8:00 last night on the 400 block of ohio avenue. it took several hours for firefighters gain the upper hand, the good news in this, no one was injured. authority are working to track down the owner of grenades, that forced evacuation after kensington thrift store saturday morning. >> this happened at the village thrift store, 2900 block every kensington avenue. an employee there found two grenades and plastic bag and called police. authority say the devices turned out to be hollowed out, and not life. >> it is 8:07 right now. danger inside your home, your car, your gym bag, yes, many of us use hand sanitizer kill germs, but doctors say they are seeing more and more kids drinking the gel by accident, or on purpose. we'll have details ahead in the health watch. plus, many people lover receiving gift carl, because you get to choose your present, right? but what if you couldn't actually use it to buy what you wanted? i don't know, that doubt sound good. for teenage tears get high by drinking the stuff. >> poison control sent, may i help you? >> since 2010, poison control centers in the u.s. have seen 400% increase in the number every phonecall regarding kids ingesting hands sanitizer. >> basically jelled alcohol, jelled alcohol can be used like regular alcohol. >> alcohol making up as much as 62 to 70% of the sanitizer. it is the same intoxicating chemical in cocktails made for consumption, drinking bottle of hands sanitize series give lent to drinking about five shots of hard liquor. >> as a teenager you have a little bit of pocket change, and it certainly is cheaper to buy that than to buy regular alcohol. >> and while it is illegal for teenage tears buy alcohol, there is no restriction on hand sanitizers. and for younger kids, there is an issue with accidental poisoning, because they're colorful, and look enticing.

our center city camera, spring garden camera, yes. that's our spring garden camera. you can start to see that we are getting little bit after break-in there. but still some cloud cover to deal with. it will get better going throughout the afternoon. get little sunshine in there. remember yesterday, took us a minute, same story today. it will take us a minute, too. but we will see an improvement everybody. not to worry. today, though, clouds will start to dissipate. feel less humidity, nice byproduct of these cooler temperatures, clear, cool tonight, fall-like week ahead. ready or not here it come. our average high this time of year 77 degrees, today we expect to get to up p.m. look what happens monday, tuesday, we actually dip below the average, and then pull above it little bit as we head into the later part of the week. that's to say we will see some temperatures you haven't seen as highs for awhile. by september 23rd, our average high just 75 degrees. and well we all know what happens when we get into november. the average high there november 30th, 50 degrees. so, we will enjoy our seven days this week. currently right now 69 greets in philadelphia. that's interesting. temperature actually ticked down little bit this morning.

sixty-eight atlantic city, 56 in mount pocono. good morning to you. as we zoom out and take a look at the region, new york, low 70s, the rest of us along the i95 corridor still hanging out upper 60s this morning. storm scan3, looking here, some of the clouds, starting to push out. so it will take a moment to get them out of here. but the afternoon should be looking much better. as we get into later part of the day. watch like yesterday, be patient. much better right now cape may courthouse. take a look, earlier this morning, we had fog everywhere, all across this field, you can see it now, we've got the sunshine, looking good, getting blue skies in there, about 69 degrees right now. headed down the shore today, pretty good looking afternoon. but, we are going to see temperatures cooler than you're used to. so 77 degrees for your high. check out monday just 71 degrees, low 70s, as we work our way into cloudy tuesday. i heard this at a football game today, anyone hear about it? you did? nicole heard about it? dallas is in town taking on the eagles, good luck with that, dallas.

77 degrees, at 4:25. you are going have a tough time with our eagle. partly sunny skies though and it will be a very good looking day today. so i think it will be a nice day for football. so for everybody out there, go eagles, and we'll see how it goes, right, today? also point out, autumnal equinox wednesday, the day of the year when we have equal light and dark. so the nighttime and the daytime about equal time. we start losing some of the daylight and the night get longer. so our equinox at 4:21 a.m. on wednesday. that also means, we're headed no fall everybody. that's when it begins. today, we will see little fall like, high of 78 degrees. clouds clearing though, less humid, should be quite nice. little chilly tonight, 56 degrees for our low, watch out for the wind today too. little gusty right now, see it tonight as well out of the north. we look at the seven day forecast, of course we mention we roll into fall with the seven's, do warm up a bit wednesday into thursday. then we head toward the papal visit where of course a loft people will be outside, and on saturday it is looking really

good. sunshine, with 70s, so, not bad at all. >> sunny, 70s, we'll particular it. kyla, thanks. 8:17. let's check on the roads with ann. i know you're busy, ann, going to be all week? >> busy week, nicole. but happy week, as women. the ben franklin parkway shutdown both directions now. between the art museum circle, logan circle, preparation the continuing fort worth meeting of families and pope francis visit. you can see kelly drive-in bound that is shutdown between fairmount avenue and the art museum sickle for the world meeting of families, martin luther king drive shutdown from the ben franklin parkway montgomery drive. now today shutdown for recreational activities, we will keep you post philadelphia it continues to be shutdown. for the ben franklin parkway, your alternates to take the vine street expressway to the schuylkill expressway, since the parkway is shutdown today. we move the traffic cam here, to i95, at broad street. now if you're tending today's eagles-cowboys game there is will be the highway you would take, so far no delays on 995, if you are doing some early morning tailgating you should

and kyla, for more on the forecast, how is it feeling out there? we have had big improvement, though, with the foggy start, so that we had along the shore. so looking at the current visibility, see, that we're looking great. only thing showing up on the map here now is millville. they're at .8 after mile, not bad. still little fog hanging on, should get better starting to go through the afternoon. live look at the temperatures right now, 69 degrees in philadelphia. seventy-two down in wildwood. about 57 up at mount pocono, lancaster coming in at 65 degrees. good morning to you, there. as we start our day today, i think a loft cloud cover out there for most of us. so, little bit of rough start. also some wind to contend with, it is out of the north, you can see, 18-mile per hour wind gusts now in philadelphia, and everyone else casino of in the five to 10-mile per hour range. little breeze going on, live look at storm scan3 shows the clouds that are with us, but they are starting to push off shore.

so, that will be the trend, they'll push off shore basically from west to east, as we roll throughout our afternoon. so, hang in, there the sunshine is coming. it is going to be here today. just taking its sweet time waking up. 78 degrees, that will be our high today. so bit of fall-like feeling. i have to say again, when outside, you definately feel the difference in temperatures. and 70s rolling through the next too dates, talking seven day forecast coming back in just a moment. i'll highlight papal visit weather for you, as well. nicole, back to you. >> kai last speaking of the papal visit at this hour, pope francis is getting ready for outdoor mass, in havana, cuba, in fact, this is live picture from that scene. you can see, he's there, the pope in full effect, in his pope mobile. he's thereto celebrate mass for thousands of people. this, by the way, one of three masses that he will preside over while in havana. it will get underway, at the top of the hour. but you can see, the excitement building, the crowds there have gathered, pope francis, again, there in his pope mobile. i think that's what so many folks really love about this

pope. is that he has that willingness to get out and be with the crowds, and greet people, from all walks of life. you can see he is doing it there as we speak in havana, just very exciting moment for that island nation, the first time by the way that he's in that part of the world, as the leader of the catholic church. this is his second day in cuba. he actually arrived yesterday, and again to a cheering crowd, and military band, all of the pomp and circumstances that you could imagine for this casino every visit. he was also greeted by cuba's president raoul castro, big moment, francis three day trip marks his first ever again to that part of the worlds. and tonight he's set to meet with 2,000 children at a youth recreation center. coming up in about 15 minutes, live report on all of the excitement surrounding that historic day, historic event, out there waiving to the crowds, about to celebrate mass in cuba. in other news this morning, eagles kick off their home opener later today, at the linc, so excite being for eagles fans. what a way to start the
