from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". good morning, move it or lose it. much of center city philadelphia is now a tow-away zone. the city getting ready for pope francis by enforcing parking bans. also this morning before coming to america the pope continues his historic tour of cuba, with visit to two more cities. but, there are some tense moments along the route of the pope mobile. we'll show those to you. >> and miserable monday in philadelphia, all of that hype before the eagles-cowboys game, and the birds play one of their worse games to date. good morning. it is monday, september 21, i'm erika von tiehl. quick check on your traffic and weather together with justin and meisha. good morning. >> good morning. happy monday, everybody. >> happy monday.

hopefully we can see you soon. >> over here. justin and i are really here. we're trying to get back to you in just one minute. having technical issue. right now, i want to tell you about the forecast, justin, there he is. >> oh, hey, you know it is monday, equipment running little slow, all running slow, maybe little depressed by yesterday's eagles game, but the weather is shaping up pretty nice, once you shape outside, little taste of fall happening once again, we finish off the official summer season. 62 degrees, still milder spot in philadelphia at the airport, 52 up in allentown, mount pocono checking in at 47 degrees this hour, so some really comfortable conditions out there, absolutely no humidity to talk about, as well. willow grove coming in at the mid 50's, as well as quakertown and pottstown. probably drop few more degrees possibly before sunrise, we do have clouds streaming in from the west, so thin clouds, but generally partly cloudy sky. we should keep thing dry through your morning commute. that's pretty good. so for today, expect some sunshine, have more clouds around than yesterday. low humidity, cooler

temperatures for sure, really fall-like temperatures, coming up for the next new days, mid 60s by 9:00. partly sunny skies for noontime, still pretty good lunch hour at 68 degrees, and 72, by 3:00. so it will reach the forecast highs, high of 74 for philadelphia, yesterday at 80. so noticeably cooler, only 70 at the shore, it will be breezy, and in the poconos, look at that, 56 degrees, so we'll keep this fall like air mass around before we officially start fall on wednesday, more details on the seven day forecast in just a bit. let's head over to meisha for a check on the roads. >> good morning, hopefully you had great weekend, i sure d short-term memory in sports, what i always say. this is where we have an accident, right shoulder, the schuylkill eastbound, past girard, you can see, some people are out on foot. this isn't causing any delays, still early, most people still in bed recovering if you catch my drift. but overall, things are look good, minus this accident on the roadways, even

construction project, not existent this morning, great news. usually the time of the morning that i am talking a lot about those. ninety-five southbound cottman, coming around the s curve looking nice, everyone traveling here at posted speeds which we would certainly expect. but monday's tend to be one of the heavier travel days. we will of course see volume levels heat up as we move through the 5:00 hour. beautiful look of the ben franklin bridge, looking good here, anywhere i look for those of you coming from jersey trying to make your way into philadelphia or center city for that matter see this is what it is looking like, everyone traveling at posted spree which we would expect at 4:30 in the morning, pope is coming, ben franklin parkway completely closed logans square until eakin's oval, until tuesday the 29th. >> with pope francis arrival almost upon us, tow trucks now clearing the streets, moving cars parked in that restricted zone. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us at 21st and cherry streets in center city a lot of folks waking up to unhappy surprise.

justin, good morning. >> good morning, many drivers here already ahead of the game. take a look here, they've got these 20-dollar city parking plackards, ex em them until thursday night. towing began at 6:00 p.m. yesterday around the ben franklin parkway, from the art museum going east, to 12th street. today, at 9:00 a.m., tow trucks return, to clear away parked cars north and south of the parkway, i know that sounds vague, but it is directive from the city and ppa, likely why many drivers around here at 21st and cherry already have their plackards, that spare their cars from tow trucks, until 10:00 p.m. on thursday. they'll also come in hand i if you park in the areas making up the vehicle restriction zone for the papal visit. private vehicles will not be allowed during that time including monday september september 28th. that accepts some drivers in the area including rittenhouse square, washington square west, society hill, logan square, and chinatown. they can remain parked until

next tuesday, only with their valid residential parking permits. now, 20 bucks will get you parking, in one of six center city garages, that fee waived again with a valid residential parking permit. drivers we spoke with say this entire papal parking process has been frustrating to say the least. >> it is frustrating because i need to park my car. i drive to and from work. so i have to figure out where to park the car every day. then it is frustrating because it doesn't seem clear, you know, might be less frustrating if it was a clear cult you can park here, can't park here. but it is not. >> and in this row of carson 21st street, we have seen some without that papal parking plaque adder there towing resumes tomorrow in the areas of the east of 12th all the way to third street here f your car is towed, be prepared to pay more than $200 in fees and fines. if you are still confused, we have more link over at

cbsphilly.com. don't forget to call the ppa, as well, with their questions. live in center city, justin finch, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> lots of questions, resident wondering, thank you. pope francis meanwhile is flying to eastern cuba this morning for the second leg of his visit to the communist country. yesterday the homy father held an open air mass in havana revolution square. greeting people and even kissing some children during the procession. the pope also met former president, former cuban president, fidel castro, for about 45 minutes. cubans, who attended the mass, believe the pope's trip will inspire many to rejoin the church. >> he is not superficial. he is very human. and that's the best of the pope. >> the trip wasn't without any drama though. check it outright here. police arrested at least four people after running up to the pope as he made his way through havana. there you can see somebody running, there the pope heads to washington tomorrow afternoon. a new cbs news new york

times pole shows most americans have positive opinion of pope francis, 80% approval of the direction the pope is leading the church, 9% disapprove. 62% think the direction of the church has changed under his leadership. >> stay with "eyewitness news" as we keep you up to date on the papal visit. we have full resource guide on the website cbsphilly.com. our count down clock is ticking. >> right now 4:37. update for you on 12 year old girl last seen in philadelphia on saturday. blackwell was found, we're told, she is okay. blackwell wandered away from church service saturday afternoon on the 2400 block of north 15th street. last night she check herself into children's hospital. we're told she is in good condition. >> now, new this morning, police are investigating a stabbing in upper darby delaware county. one person was stabbed in the providence manor ants. it happened around 1:30 in the 800 block of providence road. no detail on the victim's

condition or a suspect at this time. >> also, new this morning, a driver is rushed to the hospital after this crash in bucks county. it happened about an hour ago on the 2300 block of durham road in langhorne. that crash knocked down a pole and wires. drivers are being detoured around that crash site. >> also, new this morning, one person is rushed to the hospital after a tractor-trailer and a car collide. this happened in the westbound lanes of the schuylkill expressway. this happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. near the girard avenue exit. the highway was reduced to only one lane for number of hours while crews cleared up that scene. no details right in you on that person's condition that was injured in the accident. >> what an embarrassment. the eagles lost their home opener to the archrivals the dallas cowboys. demarco murray playing against his old team for the first time, 13 carries for only 2 yards. the eagles had one first down at the half. moving to the third quarter,

the eagles down six-nothing, punting block by danny mccrea, recovered by kyle webber. the cowboys led 13-nothing. the fourth quarter now, bad exchange between jason kelce and sam bradford, a turn over there, e-a-g-l-e-s wells three turnovers and 7 yards rushing. when it was over, the coup boys had won it 20 to ten. eagles coach chip kelly blamed the offense i have line. >> i think we're getting the effort. i thought our defense played outstanding tonight. i don't think the offense did anything, especially in the run game, where we could compliment what our defense was doing, i thought our defense played well. and i think our offense did not play at all. >> eagles zero and two for the first time since 2007. coach kelly isn't the only one disappointed. pant are too. some also blaming the offense. >> frankly, i'm embarrased by t honestly i've had enough of this team already. >> yes, very surprised, no offense, no running game against the best runner in football supposedly.

east sell m allegedly shot his girlfriend, their month old boy, at and a pastor who tried to intervene. all of the victims we're told are in stable condition. police say mentor was likely upset over recent break up, and visitation issues. a wild fire north of san francisco has destroyed another 162 homes. the california department of forestry and fire protection says damage assessment teams have counted more than 1,000 homes burned in lake county, many in middletown. lake county wild fire killed at least three people has charred 118 miles. it is now 69% contain. >> gop presidential candidate, ben carson, is under fire this morning, for some comments he made about muslims running for political office in this country. those comment during a interview on meet the press has some calling for hip to pull out of the race. >> so do you believe that islam is consistent with the constitution? >> no, i don't, i do not.

i would not advocate that we put a muslim in charge of this nation. i slutly would not agree with that. >> carson went ton say he would consider voting for a muslim for congress, but it would depend on their policies 4:44, just every morning little crisp bit of fall weather, 61 degrees. >> better and bert, closer to the fall season, final two days of summer coming in it. will be cool, certainly football weather coming up the next few days, good way to start off the work week, nice, dry, quiet, comfortable, talk about the temperatures, this time of year, we should be upper 70s, now over the weekends little warm if you were outside that sunshine did get us back into the 80s. different story today. seventy-six is our average temperature. we will be below that. we will struggle maybe get to the mid 70s due to the lack of sunshine, same deal tuesday. now wednesday we get little bump in the numbers. possibly pushing 80 degrees again. by the end of the week we just drop back to where we should be for this time of year.

compared to 24 hours ago, we are much colder anywhere from three to 16 degrees colder, so that's that cooler drier air mass that's settling in. check out the temperatures into delaware we go. sixty-three in the capitol city, 06 newark, 62 millville, new jersey, atlantic city also lower 60s, but some of the suburbs now around philadelphia in the mid 50's, voorhees at 56 degrees. malvern, checks in at 54, chalfont, 53. similar conditions to the northwest suburbs, allentown 52, pottstown and reading, mid and upper 50's. yes, closer to the fall season, officially wednesday 4:21 a.m. sun aligns itself with the equator. that's the official start of the astronomical fall. here's what's happening on storm scan3. not whole lot. high pressure over new england, notice though clouds streaming in from the south and west. little disturbance over the southern mid-atlantic. most of the rain stays to the south. we'll get some of the cloud cover into today and tomorrow. high pressure kind of blocks the rain from really getting northward. there you g the flow continues off the ocean out of the

northeast. cool, and mainly dry, with some clouds around, both today, tomorrow, wednesday looks like back to more sunshine, that's what helps boost the temperatures back up. today though it is comfortable, partly sunny, cooler, 74 degrees for your afternoon high, tonight another comfortable night, mostly cloudy, 60 center city. extended forecast, mid 70s. tuesday, wednesday, up to 80 degrees, end of the week drop back to mid 70s. looking good for the papal visit as well both saturday and sunday. >> very good, thank you. hopefully the eagles will be able to put that cowboys game behind them. the bird turned in just a role clunker in the home opener. the cowboys defense held the evening else running attack to 7 yards. former cowboy demarco murray finished with 2 yards. quarterback sam bradford led the team with nine rushing yards. >> it is one of those things obviously all really frustrated right now. you know, but we're not going to give up. we're not going to quit. >> i don't want to use the

little bit in the 5:00 hour, specially monday through wednesday, certainly, looking like it certainly is now you can see how many headlights are out there, but overall things looking good there. blue route southbound at mid-county toll plaza being looking really nice and steady there the skewing eastbound, accident pulled all the way up to the shoulder, not causing too many slow downs, just make note it is there. it will start to cause a slow down if it does not get cleared out. not to mention people are out walking around their vehicles, so drove very careful on the skewing, justin. good morning, how was your weekend? >> i was here all weekend long, at least the weather has been quiet, pretty nice outside. for monday we can't plane about it, comfortable conditions. we are wake one some 50's, 60s, up to the northern suburbs, 53 degrees in allentown, 62 in philadelphia, and millville, 57 degrees, in reading. there is storm scan3, pretty quiet. notice the cloud cover streaming from the south and west, pretty much all we're dealing with, partly to mostly

we want to check in with meisha and justin, rat least our weather and roads aren't looking glad. morning. >> yes, good morning, roads are looking actually really nice. dealing with so much over night construction, nice to see nice commute for this monday morning, justin, i know things are feeling pretty darn good. not chilly but cooler? >> it is cooler, almostly bit of chill in the air when the winds blows out here on the skydeck, yes, comfortable start, roads are quite, so is the forecast, not bad way to kick off the work week here. waking to up little bit of cloud cover. temperatures in the 50's, lower 06 aims, depends where you are, obviously outer suburbs, the cool spot. # three allentown, 48 degrees though up in the mountains, and into south jersey, delaware, looking at some low 60s, absolutely no humidity right now. so, feels very nice. fifty-five in quakertown, 521 of the cooler spots in doylestown. there is storm scan3, mid to high level clouds streaming from the south and west, it will filter out the sunshine today little bit. not as much sun as we had over the weekends, notice the
