service tonight, david? >> reporter: jessica, it is a a wild scene on fifth avenue knew here in manhattan. pope francis is expected to arrive in about 15 minutes. he is landing the at jfk and will meet with 200 local catholic school children and he will get in the helicopter and actually land in manhattan just a few blocks from where i'm standing right now. we have a shot of the airport waiting for that papal arrival and when he left washington d.c. he met with dignitaries, secretary of state john kerry, among others, but the crowd in manhattan cannot wait for pope francis to get here. on a side note, i just happened to see the pope's fiat with vatican plates driving by with a test run. the pope francis was not inside but cathedral behind me st. patrick's cathedral is a a beautiful cathedral just went under a 177 million-dollar renovation and finished three months early. obviously for the pope visit. pope francis will land in that chopper in about an hour or so

hunter, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thanks very much. crews are busy getting ben franklin bridge ready for the weekend. chopper three flying over the bridge today and chopper three found trucks moving barriers and portable the pot is in to place before the the bridge closes to traffic at 10:00 o'clock tomorrow night. bridge will open up to pedestrians beginning at 6:00 o'clock saturday morning. more road closures start in center city in just a few hours. so tonight a at 0:00 o'clock the secure perimeter and secured vehicle perimeter go into effect a and that means no cars are allowed to be park on the street and those areas shaded in red, and in dark gray. only residents, business owners and authorized personnel are in that red zone after 10:00 o'clock tonight. tomorrow morning at 6:00, metal detectors will open for anyone traveling in the the secured perimeter from 20th street to 12th street. and then at 8:00 o'clock tomorrow morning no cars will be allowed on the road, now highlighted in orange. if you are taking septa

the pope is in town. meteorologist kate bilo is live on the die deck with the first look at a the forecast. kate, i wish we could pause weather like this, this is great. >> this is fantastic. what a beautiful afternoon it is, unfortunately it is not going to stay this way for the pope's visit. we have a coastal storm that is providing a tricky forecast as we head in the weekend. lets look the at storm can three, you can see just a few cloud starting to drift by. but as we zoom outlook at what is happening in the deep south. portion office south carolina and new york are getting heavy rain as storm develops in that area and this system is going to track its way across the eastern seaboard this weekend. it is battle between blocking high to the north and coastal low to the south. if the blocking high weakens and storm moves to the north we have a chance for little bit of rain to invade area and looking most likely to be sunday afternoon. if that low moves further north a greater threat for rain, sunday afternoon. that is a big time, of course as the pope is in philadelphia, papal mass on the parkway, definitely want

"eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan is at wilmington city hall right now, cleve. >> reporter: late this afternoon the mayor, police chief pledging to give a thorough, transparent investigation into the police involved shooting, that family of the men who died said it didn't have to happen. >> they shot him like road kill. >> reporter: phyill is is upset after they shot jeremy mcdole on "eyewitness news". four officers engaged mcdole whose wheelchair bound after receiving a report he was armed and had already shot himself. it is difficult to see what

mcdole does or says in the the video but police say numerous time to drop his gun and put his hand up before opening fire in rapid success. >> hand up. >> reporter: police say they recovered 38 caliber hand gun at mcdole's side. family says the officers made the situation worse then it had to be. >> i watch the video they shot my son so much, he fell in the wheelchair. he fell out of his chair on the brown. >> reporter: shortly after speaking to is, mrs. mcdole attended a news briefing at city hall abe after announcing her presence she was invited next to the mayor and police chief. >> would you like to come up, ma'am. >> this is unjust. he was in the wheelchair paralyzed from the waist down, video showing that he didn't pull a weapon. >> reporter: authorities subpoenaed videos from "eyewitness news". i asked chief bobby cummings what officers saw that we don't in regard to mcdole and the gun. >> when they engage him they were able to see they had a weapon and information prior to the getting there was he

"eyewitness news" reporter rahel solomon is live with more on the search for a killer, rahel. >> reporter: jessica, police tell me this after afternoon they were able to get their hand on surveillance video, they tell me images are very clear but they are hoping that those images lead them to the suspect. >> reporter: police say victim was simply walking to work early thursday morning. >> he was a working man, he did have have a couple children and we believe he was on his way to work. >> reporter: fatal stabbing happened at 6:45, moments later and just feet away herman and several others were working. >> we were out here, we were banging, tearing things down. we can't hear nothing. we hear noise going on. i didn't hear screams or anything at all. i turned around and there was a guy, with people trying to help him. >> reporter: medics took the 47 year-old victim to nearby hahnemann hospital. the stab wound to the left

in the weekend but looking beautiful on the parkway. lets go out to the live neighborhood network and in kutztown nothing but blue skies and cloud moving in. right now 76 there. nice day down the shore as well. not too many people parked on the beach. a few included there but someone standing on the beach enjoying a nice afternoon. of course, it is this storm that we will continue to watch here as it the starts to gain strength off the coast of the carolinas and bringing heavy rain in portions of western south carolina and georgia. center of this low will trap up the coast as we head in the weekend and it will be a battle between blocking high to the north and coastal low. it depend on how strong that storm gets. right now temperatures are right around 80. seventy-six in the millville. seventy-nine in trenton. watching storm heading in the weekend it slowly lifts north. we have a gusty breeze that will start to pick up throughout the weekend as well with high pressure to the north and then this could clip us late on sunday. let look at our two main models and look the at descrepancy here. gfs model hat 1.3 inches of rain. european model, .3 of an inch.

we're close to having a million people expected to converge on the parkway red cross is prepared to help. command center for red cross operations is up and running at 23rd and chestnut. red cross will have 16 family reunification centers around the parkway to help lost family members find each other. the red cross says families going to the parkway should have a backup plan in case their cell phone loses services and somebody gets lost. >> the best thing to do is find a police officer and they will bring to you one. we have 16 different locations we have set up throughout city and outside philadelphia in addition to that. so if you do get lost, cell phonies not working, find a police officer and they will bring you to a reunification sites. and there we have triple backup communication process. >> red cross will operate several medical assistance stations a all around center city. operation will run throughout the the papal visit. lets take another live look at jfk airport. pope francis is now on the helicopter and heading in the
