this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". good morning, after a two day visit and a mass i have public mass in the parkway, pope francis leaves philadelphia. we will get a closer look at his trip. >> now that pope francis is gone, clean up is underway in the city. those folks are hard at work. gates, barricades, being removed to try to get everything back up and running. some good news, many roads are open ahead of schedule. live look at the ben franklin bridge, which is now back open to traffic. the roads you can drive on again if you're headed into work today. >> good morning, it is monday, september 28th, i'm erika von tiehl amount check on the now open roads, and also our forecast with justin and meisha. good morning. >> good morning it, fells like we never left. >> i know, straight through. >> never end being. >> right.

yes, a loft roads are now open. i'll have all of the updates, justin, feels nice. >> started to feel more humid, we'll start bringing back warm temperatures the next couple of chances, rain chances, little fog, some spots, but notice the numbers, we're hanging out at 66 at the airport philadelphia, if 64 allentown, 63 reading, cool spots, may be dropping into the upper 50's briefly. really now we will see the dew point on the rise, how much moisture and humidity is in the air. on the weekend 40's, ooh, a, now looking at lower 60s, so that mugginess starts to increase through the morning and really through the day today. storm scan3, nice and dry, we do have some clouds over the region, you might see few patches of clear skies, where you're at depending on your location, and later today, there could be stray shower, that pops up, but most of the area should stay dry. muggy morning, not whole lot of sunshine to deal with, partly to mostly cloudy skies, it will be warmer, inside

temperatures upper 70s, close to 80, so above average this time of year. breaking down your day, again 60s this morning, by lunchtime mid 70s, so it will be milder lunch break and the afternoon clouds, chance for that shower, temperatures up around 80 for the afternoon high. all right, meisha, a getting little better out there, a lot of the blockades being lifted, good news. >> things looking really really nice, we were used to everything over the weekend, everything basically closed down as we know, here's a look at the ben franklin bridge, as erika said. now open for traffic. this is in both directions, on the ben franklin bridge, that's great news for many of you. also another opening, the vine open, but the exit ramps are still closed make note. that will see movement now, like i said, the vine is open, just exit ramps. as soon as those open i'll have updates for you. now here is a look at the track box. still closed in west philly now all of those are still open in west philly. but, we still are closed for 30th street. and also, roads are slowly starting to open right here, in this red zone center, art

museum, slowly but surely all starting to unwind. west philly like i said, i have listed except for 30th street, make note for. that will quick look, the roads, closures have now lifted, these are the ones still closed. still closed the vine street expressway, off-ramps, the schuylkill eastbound at spring garden a and 30th. ramps at call owe i have, lifted: vine and broad off 95 but callowhill still closed. martin luther king drive also still closed part of kelly drive. those are the ones you want to know. good news in new jersey closures have all lit dollars. so for those travel in from new jersey, 676, now back open, erika, over to you. >> also let the clean up begin. check it out. the clean effort. they got right to it, justin, good morning. >> they never even stopped. they've been going all morning, all day, and all night. of course the streets and trash clean up are high on the agenda this morning, now famous papal stage has been focus all weekends, it is now coming down too. after a week of fences and foot traffic, city crews are working to turn what were the francis festival grounds back into the center city we all know. that means, the empty bottles, the litter, the barricades, the barriers and much more, must go. with several thousand people getting about center city by foot over the weekend, a lot of waste was left in their wake. small price to pay of course for city, that's now hosed history. the papal mass, pope francis being packed the parkway, for ache owns oval to near city hall. some close up seeing the holy father in person, others watched on jumbro-trons nearby. they of course followed the holy father's final day all

historic trip here to the u.s. meanwhile crews breaking down the alter where the poach held his historic man. encouraged massive crowd to seek comfort in the little things. people of all backgrounds and faiths came from near and forget spot on the ben franklin parkway. pope's message quickly echoed with many. >> it was amazing, it was incredible. i've never experienced nothing like it in my life. >> the people here were just trough mends us from all over the world, they couldn't have been friendlier, smiling at you, this wasn't the philadelphia i know. >> maybe it is the philadelphia of the future. >> i certainly hope so. >> early estimate say over 800,000 people parked the parkway for the papal mass. >> pope francis made another unscheduled stop delighting many people outside the cathedral basilica basilica of t peter and paul in center city. walk up to the knotted grotto blessed 100,000 prayers written on the white

streamers. the grow he owe will remain outside the basilica with a week or possibly through the ends of october. and then it was a quick wave and it was all over. pope francis touched down as you mentioned in rome just few minutes allege, after final farewell at philadelphia international airport last night, he boarded the plane and was off. the holy father departed philadelphia on shepherd i, and gave us all one last lesson we saw through the window, there concluding this history making tour of the united state. this is just in, just few moments ago, pope francis sent this message out over twitter with my heartfelt thanks, may the love of christ always guide the american people. hashtag god bless america. >> the pope hashtags, how about that? 4:37. in other news this morning, man in critical condition after he was shot during a home invasion in lower moreland. montgomery county dispatch said the break-in happened just after 11:00 last night, three, four men forced their way into the home of 2300 block every philmont avenue. injured man rushed to abington

hospital. no cuss secretaries are in custody. >> the owner of the seattle duck boat company suspend operations until all vehicles are inspected after a deadly accident. a duck boat swerved into oncoming traffic last week killing five people and injuries dozens more. federal investigators say the duck boats left front axle was sheared right off, although not clear if the axle broke before or after the collision. the national transportation safety board says axle repair was recommended for some duck boats back in 2013. >> still ahead this morning on "eyewitness news", an unexpected visit from pope francis before making his way to the mass on the parkway. how student at st. joe's university respond dollars how they heard rumors the pontiff was coming. >> in sport, finally happened. the eagles win their first game of the season. what the birds did right in yesterday's game against the jets. >> and the ray held off for the papal visit. but there is still a chance for a shower or two. justin is checking on your

dozens of parents watch their baby get the chance after lifetime this weekend as they received a kiss on the forehead from the pope. like many pope before him, francis makes the interested toyings connect with children in the street. on the parkway yesterday afternoon, the pope security brought baby after baby after baby to kiss and bless. how special. now, pope francis made another unexpected visit before making his way to mass on the parkway. the holy father stopped at st. joe's university yesterday, bringing hundreds to the campus at the last minute. student chanted and surrounded the holy father as he accepted the st. joseph's university jersey from the school's president. right there you can see the pope bless ago statue, which was recently put on display at the school. we spoke to some student and staff, they've been waiting for hours just hoping that the rumors of the pope's arrival were true. >> i never thought the pope would actually come. they were sitting there, so i start dollars sitting at

approach to the earth, low clouds, little fog out there. live look at the ben franklin bridge, no rain to talk about at this point. storm scan3, all of the showers still well to our south and west, west virginia, western pennsylvania, we do have flow, though, off the water, so that's why it is bringing in the muggy conditions. maybe stray shower that pops upleapt err today. but again, these chances are really small. temperatures, in the lower and mid 60s right now, south and delaware and south jersey around philadelphia, kind of the same numbers. not much change in the location, as far as the temps g the reason is because we have the lower clouds over us. dew point temperature on the rise, now up to 63, again, over the weekend, it was really low, so it is still feeling not bad now. but it will start feeling steamy, and maybe even oppressive as we head into tomorrow. as we really bring back summer like air mass. now today, rain chances pretty small, 20% chance, again, very spot if i it does happen. tomorrow we bump it up to 40 late in the dayment wednesday best shot for some steadier rain, we can use little bit of rain, finally dry out on

thursday. not much happening today, clouds, maybe few peaks of sun from time to time. sprinkle or two is possible, tonight, kind. same deal. mostly cloudy skies, here is tuesday afternoon, start to see showers breaking out specially north and west of the city, cold front moves in from the west. but today, mostly cloudy, stray shower, 79, will do it for the high. tonight still on the muggy side, 69 for the low. here is the extended forecast, again, 80 degrees, for the high on tuesday. better chance for rain wednesday, low 70s, by the end of the week, feels like fall again, some sunshine for friday, highs mid 60s, erika. >> roller coaster there, eagles in the win column first time this season, keep the all time winning streak intact against the jet. the birds built the 24 to nothing lead on the first half, that's one score was a 89-yard punt return, by darren sproles. running back, demarco murray, sat this game out with the hamstring injury. ryan matthews got the start. he ran for 108 yards, and touchdown catch. the birds hang onto win, 24-17. >> don bell has a closer look.

judge. >> one more look at your headlines this morning, pope francis back at the vat call after leaving philadelphia late last night. yesterday estimated 860,000 people packed the parkway to attend mass with the pope. >> and, this morning, clean up is underway to remove thousands of barricades and tons of trash left behind by papal visitors. many major highways and roads reopened early, some good news, that includes the ben franklin bridge, the vine street expressway, and the schuylkill, many raps, though, still closed. meisha has her eye on it and will have an update in a couple every minutes. must have been devine intervention, eagles win their first game of the season, beat the jets yesterday 24 to 17.

great news, more roads are opened than expected this. >> yes, sounds like by 3:00 a.m., slowly unwinding, great news for early morning commuters, trying get back to work. here is a look at the vine, off ram top broad, obviously still closed and blocked. but actually, as we watch some of the cameras just starting to see them pull out of this, out of the way. so this hopefully will be one of the areas that starts to get cleaned up this morning. here is a look at spring garden between the schuylkill, the ben franklin parkway, you can see, a loft flashing light, still closed around here, but i will have all of the updates as we continue to pull things out of your way on your way to work, or even those buses trying get the kids to school.

morning. morning, guys. >> good morning, erika, yes, it is authorities say the calm after the storm, especially in the worm of traffic. now that the clean is up just starting you can see the penndot cam whiz g around, updates coming up in a little bit. but justin, feeling pretty nice outside, i got to say. >> little cool, but also feels damp right now. that's because we're bringing back moisture in the form of humidity, actually low clouds, can't even see the tops of the buildings here in center city. that will will be the trend today, kind of leading off from yesterday, with the clouds around today, but noticeably warmer. right now temperatures lower, mid 60s, reporting station action pretty much the same because of the cloud cover right now. so, again, comfortable but little more muggy. dew point temperatures tell the storiment back into the low and potentially mid 60s, stowe will feel humid. over the weekends dew point around 50, indicating dry air mass, pretty quiet on storm scan3, just some clouds, some low clouds, fog, mist to deal with thi
