this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". the day after history, this is how the ben franklin parkway looks today after it was jam packed with people for the pope. today philadelphia is celebrating a major success. good afternoon everyone, i'm pat ciarrocchi. >> i'm erika von tiehl. crews working around the clock to get the city cleaned up and back to normal. check out the piles of trash left behind by the crowds on the parkway. workers used push brooms to put it into piles, and then steep sweeping vehicle took care of the rest. wawa also had a lot of free

left over water from the papal weekends, so they let people just come and take what they wanted. >> i was in the house watching the news. they were saying that wawa had a lot of free water left from the clean up. so i got on my bike and decide to ride downtown. i got a case in my back pack. and i got a case right here, so i'm riding, take that, then come back and get some more. >> can't beat the price. no word on just how long that clean up sever going to take, but the crews are doing traffic job. >> certainly r well the world meeting of families is what attracted pope francis to philadelphia this weekend, "eyewitness news" reporter rahel solomon is live for us at the pennsylvania convention center as officials look back on successful celebration. rahel, tell us about it. >> reporter: pat, good afternoon, you know, we actually just moved to city hall. good afternoon to you, now, i can tell you during this press conference, this was real a opportunity for the archdioces to speak and reflect back on the world meeting of families. so this weekend's papal visit,

and for the most part it was overwhelmingly positive. but at one point things did become a little tense. today at the convention center little earlier during the press conference, philadelphia archbishop charles chaput said the pope enjoyed his trip to philadelphia, was very impressed by the city's people. chaput addressed concerns about the the long security lins and actually said some of his friends also could not get in until the end of mass. he did not, however, criticize the heavy security for the pope's trip. he said it is just a reflection of the post 9/11 world we live in. judge we've gone out of our way to explore the past in response to the grand jury things, i think that the people responsible of the grand jury would acknowledge, our response being very positive and thorough the fact people want more, what is the more they want we haven't done is often i ask. >> reporter: and, since that

press conference this morning at the convention center we've since moved to city hall. moved here because happening right now there is a press conference inside with the city of philadelphia, and the mayor. they're going to be talking about their reaction toss this weekend. we have a camera crew inside. we'll bring you that part of the story coming up tonight beginning at 5:00. reporting live at city hall, rahel solomon, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> what the archbishop was responding to, rahel, thank you very much. archbishop was responding to at that point was about holy father's comments about sex abuse and also what he said on the plane going back. i'll have more for you on that later today on "eyewitness news". meantime, mayor michael nutter and the world meeting of families families agreed the event was a big sung zest. >> spoke just few moments ago. >> that everything worked well, the answer is yes. did people have a good time? yes. did people come out? yes. were people safe, secure? the answer again is yes. that's the measure of success

moments with us, and you can use the #cbsphillypope. well, the rain held off for the papal visit. it is still on its way toward philadelphia. >> it did not hit the mass. we can take the rain now. still little couple of days out you think, right? >> i told you i would have it covered for the papal mass. >> we asked, you delivered. >> just clouds around today, really tomorrow and certainly wednesday, next shot for some rain. so we got some time yet. little difference in the air mass right now, start to go bring back summer feel, if you step outside, notice, little bit more muggy conditions out there, humidity is on the rise, so are the temperaturesment check it out. depends where you are, south of the city seeing few breaks of sun, check it out, south jersey into delaware, upper 70s right now, so we should make it into the low 80s being some of the hot spots, 73 at the airport, farther north go, still stuck in low clouds, keeping the temperatures down, willow grove at 71, as well as pottstown. storm scan3, quiet, showers well off to the west, stay

across western pennsylvania today, few breaks in those clouds, every now and then, but overall just mostly cloudy day, comfort index starting to go downhill, dew point at 66. that tells us how much moisture is in the air. mid 60s, pretty high. we were around ooh over the weekends so it was a dry comfortable air mass. what's what to expected to, muggy conditions, from the morning, continue into the afternoon, perhaps, stray shower, i think most areas do stay dry. but does warm up, philadelphia high of 79 degrees, low 70s at the shore, and almost 70 up in the poconos, we will talk about steady rain chance though arriving for the mid week time period. details coming up in a few minutes, pat, back over to you. >> justin, thank you. police are investigating forklift accident that killed a 13 year old boy in northeast philadelphia, happened late last night at newman paper company talcony street. steve patterson live for us from wissinoming where he spoke with one of the children driving a forklift. steve, tell us more. >> sense of grief and anger

here, as authorities and family both trying to figure out how in the world this happened. family remains here, they've been here since this morning, since they heard what happened. they're angry, because they believe that the facility behind me was unsecured. that will led to the death of their loved one. i want to show you back, there we can pan back, show you the fence line where they believe the kids snuck in under the fence and then looped around, went inside the warehouse, and started driving those fork lifts, which led to the death. in fact, the kid we spoke to confirms. that will i want to take to you video. we have after the incident. now, police say this happened after about 9:20 last night, the 6100 block of talcony street, six children, break-in side the warehouse owned bynum man paper company. four of the children hop into the fork lifts there, the keys, already inside the lifts. they start riding those fork lifts aroundment one of the fork lifts being operated by a 13 year old girl, crashes into another being operated by that 13 year old young boy, the victim, i'm told that boy's

forklift tips over, and crushes the boy. we learn one of the children that actually broke inside the warehouse, he was there driving one of the fork lifts watching his friend die after it tip over. listen to this. >> we went under the gate, and got into the place, actually we went back in the place. >> door open? >> yep, the door was open. there was girls, it was a girl and her boyfriend, and two other boys on one forklift, and one in the middle. it swerved and then the forklift tipped over, and his hand got cut right near the bar thing. >> and you saw that? >> yes, i saw it. >> i'm hurt, i'm ankle ricker i'm upset. he was only 13. >> so we're also told security guard told police that the building was secure, about an

hour before this accident happened. of course, authorities continue to investigate. for now, live in talcony, steve patterson, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". no matter which way you cut it, tragic situation. thank you so much, steve. well, joyce mitchell the former new york prison work here helped two convicted killers escape has been sentenced to up to seven years behind bars herself. the 51 year old admit that she gave richard matt and david sweat tools that they used to break out of prison back in june. matt was killed after a three week manhunt, and sweat was wounded. under the terms after plea deal, mitchell could get out as soon as 28 months. >> well, coming up here on cbs-3 "eyewitness news" at noon, break through discovery about breast cancer. and whether chemotherapy is really necessary. >> also, president obama and putin will meet face-to-face today at the united nations, coming up what the two leaders will focus on. >> pope back in rome, but making headlines again. >> this as a pop star.

much happening outside. yes, we woke to up some clouds, but humidity on the rise, almost that summer like feel, still going on, for about another 24 hours or so. we take you outside. live look from our roof camera, looking south at center city still some of the low clouds hanging around, earlier this morning, we couldn't even see the top of the skyscrapers, so at least the sealing has started toroids, few peaks every sunday this afternoon. here's what's ahead, today, tomorrow, overall cloudy conditions, it is mild, little bit more muggy, maybe scattered shower today, better chance tuesday afternoon, tuesday night. and then wednesday, steadier rain especially during the morning, and there could be some heavy rain wednesday morning, cold front combined with low pressure system move through the delaware valley, thursday, to friday, could see little clearing going on, temperatures starts to drop, then the weekend throw in another chance, for some rain, we will talk about that in just a second. but here we go, downward trend, as far as the temperatures, average hi, mid 70s, we'll be well above that today, tomorrow, then we start to cool things down by the end of the week, so looking for

fall like temperatures, wait few more days, check it out, sunshine, a.c. airport, 79 degrees, delaware, capitol city mid 70s, philadelphia, little cooler because of the clouds. seventy-four in mullica hill, 72 trenton, 73 voorhees, to the north similar conditions. you get the picture, low 70s. clouds just holding some of the temperatures down today. showers, well to our west. stay there today. there is cold front out across the ohio val that i will start to track eats ward. so, pretty much dry conditions, through the rest of this afternoon. it will feel somewhat humid today. actually, get even worse tomorrow. we call it steamy tuesday. temperatures into the lower 80s, thens wednesday still on the humid side with rain finally by the end of the week, start to cut out the humiditiment tropical system to talk about, newly developed tropical depression 11, wind at 35 miles per hour, well east of florida, but the track will take it a little bit to the north and west, eventually north, off the east coast, but close enough potentially bring

us some rain late in the week. by the time it get to up our region should be tropical depression, some may throw back rain along the coast and areas. rain chances today, 10% chance, bump it to 40 tomorrow. late in the day, then wednesday, 08% chance, but most that far coming during the morning, here is the set up, front moves in from the west, low pressure to the south, combine with each other, late tuesday night, wednesday. that's when we have a batch of some steadier heavier rain, moving through wednesday morning, finally a the front moves on through, start to clear the skies out, how much rain are we talking about? potentially one, two, 3 inches far northwest of the city. so the forecast high today warm one, 79 degrees, mostly cloudy skies, tonight, still, muggy, 69 for the low temperature, here's the extended forecast again scattered showers tomorrow, steady rain wednesday morning, little bit cooler and little drier by the end of the week back to the mid 60s, so little all over the place. >> roller coaster, 80, 66? >> september. >> justin, thanks. so nasa scientists are saying mars appears not only to have frozen water but flowing
