is underway and we had a front row seat to history. what an amazing experience. good evening, i'm ukee washington. i'm jessica dean. both city and world meeting of families reacted to what they called a wonderful weekend. "eyewitness news" reporter rahel solomon is live with a look at what officials had to say about the pope in philadelphia, rahel. >> reporter: jessica, good evening. this morning we spoke with archbishop chaput about his reactions to this weekend, that we heard a lot about the long security lines and he even said some of his friend had issues getting in but when asked what pope francis thought about the city of philadelphia, he said he was truly impressed. philadelphia's papal weekend is now in the rear-view mirror but some are still smoothed by the memories. >> incredible grace to be behind because then we would come, we would see the families, and we would see tears streaming down their cheeks. >> reporter: at a press conference monday philadelphia mayor michael nutter says tens of thousands rode septa and

patco and 90 percent of area hotel rooms were booked. >> the city of philadelphia and our region will be bass being in the glow of this successful event. >> reporter: there were no apparent security issues but three people were arrested over the weekend. one for dui, second for probation violation, and the third arrest, according to mayor nutter was idiotic. >> after having stood in line for an hour, and decided to then try to come through a security checkpoint with a large bag of illegal drugs. that is the definition of stupidity. >> reporter: while memories are still fresh for many, archbishop charles chaput said the city made an impression on pope francis. >> the holy father really was very impressed with the beauty of our city. he commented on that. he was very touched by the size of the crowd. >> and the city today would not comment on a exactly how many people showed up, this weekend but estimates over weekend put it over 800,000.

reporting live from city hall, rahel sol machine for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thank you so much for that. >> monumental event means monumental clean up, brooms out in full force on the parkway as crews cleared the trash from the streets. they did a marvelous jobs. workers took down metal barriers set up all around the city to block off streets from vehicles and control the massive crowds. thousands of bottles of water donated by wawa, for those attending the mass, left on the parkway, and they helped themselves, and, one man says he wanted water to help out the homeless. >> saturday, we come out here this water should be enough to meet their needs. and, and papal provisions. >> left over at the star bucks on callowhill. "eyewitness news" camera spotted several boxes of inventory sitting unopened

inside the store this morning. and, businesses, and, papal traffic. and, they didn't get the foot traffic that they had expected. so what happens to all of the left overs. our greg argos has that story. >> reporter: this is supposed to be a pack weekend but, local businesses, say it was a bust. cuba libre in olde city, their walk in refrigerator here pack, with fresh food and now they are trying to figure out what to do with all of this. >> this weekend, the pope weekend was a complete bust. >> reporter: the executive chef jennifer doesn't mix word. >> for us, this was, this was nothing. it would have been better if we would have closed. >> reporter: she said workers at the her olde city restaurant prepared for the crowds, even renting this military grade refrigerator but her staff served less than 10 percent of the patrons they do on a normal weekend. >> we had no foot traffic down here, nothing. it was a dead zone all weekend

long. >> reporter: now extra food that she has in storage could all go bad. >> i absolutely have to be donating food. would i rather not have our food spoil and give to it people that need it. i don't want to see any product go to waste. better to give back to the community that does need it. >> i stood in line for about four hours. >> reporter: she says security checkpoints are partially to blame and the fact that once visitors were inside events they didn't want to leave. some other restaurants owners seemed to have the same problem. vetri family restaurant owner mark vetri posted this message on his facebook wall, quote we didn't need to close every bridge, street, alley scarring most people. but not all businesses faired too poorly. >> there was countless numbers of people. >> reporter: maryann manual works at a acorner deli, says her business was packed. their number one items sold was the philadelphia cheese stake. >> as a side, possibly

donating this food to local food banks in philadelphia, this restaurant is creating special was all of this fresh produce, fresh food they have left over from the potential, thousands of people that they were expecting here, for the papal weekend. reporting from olde city, i'm greg argos for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". rain held off for the papal visit but our luckies running out. "eyewitness news" meteorologist kate bilo is tracking wet weather outside on the sky deck, kate. >> i can see some rain happening just off to the west, i'm outside on the sky deck. it is interesting when you see straight above you see blue skies. looking to the east, blue skies. looking to the west i'm seeing dark cloud, low clouds and some rain shadows in the distance. look at what we're dealing with on storm scan three. a few showers have popped up across the area they are light and they are spotty but if we zoom into delaware county you can see what i'm seeing in the distance, a few showers, that have popped up, over portions of delco, portions of chester county as well and we are seeing a lit built of steady rain with these showers. not heavy at the moment but just off even into portions of

west virginia, seeing the the chance for a few showers here and there so, don't be shocked if you need windshield wipers outside for tonight. we're looking at temperatures, well above what we felt over the weekend. in fact it is still 80 degrees in philadelphia it is 78 degrees in allentown. seventy-six in trenton. 76 degrees as well at the atlantic city airport. future weather shows the showers, continuing to cross out over the the overnight hours. tomorrow at noon a few showers as well throughout the a afternoon, they will get numerous. heavier rain will come in after midnight tomorrow night and note that is at the 2:00 a.m. wednesday morning, it is just pouring. especially in the north and western suburbs. we will continue to do so overnight. on and off throughout the day wednesday we could see period of rain. coming up with the full forecast we have a lot to talk b we are talking about that heavy rain tuesday into wednesday. how much will actually fall. then a major cool down follows that system and then over the weekend, we're watching the coast and potential tropical troubles, to tell but by the weekend. you can see behind me those dark clouds looking ominous over center city philadelphia looking to the south and west

and this is the first of many rain chances that we've got over the next several days. more on that in just a bit. ukee and jessica, back to you. >> thanks very much. a home invasion/murder leaves a local community stunned and that is as the details coming out many are wondering was the family targeted. "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco is live in lower moreland with more on the investigation. >> reporter: this all happened this family was getting ready to go to bed last night. tonight police ruled this a homicide and said that they were targeted, although they won't say why. tonight the family is in mourning, over the loss of a father and husband, and a search for a gunman is on. police are investigating a home invasion that killed a husband and father of three. investigators say that sunday night a gunman entered this home just after 11:00 o'clock on philmont avenue in lower moreland township firing on kevin brown, who was upstairs, in the master bedroom. brown and his wife, both jumped out of a second story

window but five three-year old brown was shot in the neck and then later pronounced dead at abington memorial hospital. brown's three children, youngest just 17 years old hidden side the house, when they heard the gun shots. it appears that the gunman, fled on foot. we did speak with the victim's brother a short time ago at the residents he said they are obviously shocked and in mourning tonight. they are still being interviewed by police. it is not known just how many suspects police are looking for, and this is all still under investigation. we are live from lower moreland township, i'm diana rocco for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". a teenager has died in the tacony neighborhood of philadelphia after police say he was pinned under a forklift at a local business. now his family is demanding answers. "eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson has that story. >> reporter: grief, anger. >> i'm hurt. i'm angry.

i'm upset. he was only three. >> reporter: john grogan says that there is plenty of both emotions but that the a anger is stronger. grogan believe that his nephew 13 year-old ethan shoemaker was killed because of negligence, not mischief. >> there has got to be something, some precaution, some safety precaution to keep kid out of there and not honor riding equipment. >> reporter: police say ethan and five friend broke into this warehouse owned by paper manufacturer newman and company. one of the teens tells cbs-3 they peeled back a rusted opening in this fence at 9:00 sunday night and slipped through an unlock door. the teen says the keys were in four forklifts and that the kid drove around until a 13 year-old girl smashed hers into ethan's. >> we just want answers. we just want to know what happened. >> reporter: the 14 year-old boy you are about to hear said he operated one of those forklifts and this isn't the first time kid have broken in but now he hopes it is the the

last. >> he swerves and the the forklift tipped over and his hand got cut right here near the the bar. >> reporter: you saw that. >> yeah, i saw it. >> reporter: ethan's family still searching for their own answers, believe it is something that isn't done it could easily happen again. >> that will show, it need to be secure and safe. >> i wish i was just, to see him one more time, play with him one more time. >> reporter: in response to the the sadness and anger from the family the the new man paper company released a statement to cbs-3 saying we are saddened by the loss of this young man's life and offer our condolences to the family. this matter is part of an ongoing investigation with the philadelphia police department, and again, philadelphia police do continue to investigate as the family continues their search for answers. reporting from tacony, i'm steve paterson for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". well, still to come on "eyewitness news" tonight, oh, baby what a story to tell how

of babies being taken up to the pope mobile so pope francis could kiss them on their head. it has become a tradition for so many. >> there was one baby that did not get a chance to be blessed by the pope but he and his parents have quite a story to tell. >> health reporter stephanie stahl is here to tell us about a new baby name after pope francis. >> reporter: of course. talk about a special delivery, it happened during the papal mass yesterday. the proud parents have a special connection to pope francis and now, so does their baby boy. >> it is definitely a blessing. >> reporter: erin, was in the dude until october 12th but her baby boy arrived early on the day pope francis said mass, in philadelphia a. it turns out it is a special day for erin and her husband, jim. >> on the exact anniversary of our wedding, our son was born. >> reporter: talk about timing and there is more. for their wedding on december 27th the couple got a papal blessing for their marriage from pope francis. >> it was just, a little

uncanny that he came, exactly nine months after that day. >> reporter: erin and jim are devout catholics and were watching the mass when the baby was born. at 6:27 sunday night. >> when he came out we knew he would have to put francis in his name, so we decided to name him james francis. >> reporter: frances being the pope who blessed their marriage exactly nine months before the the baby was born, and the pope was in philadelphia at the time. >> it is not a coincidence, it is definitely god's plan. >> reporter: so instead of the naming baby what they planned james paul they switched his middle name to francis. >> he looked like anybody just yet. >> i think he has my nose. >> i hope he looks more like mom then me. >> reporter: get this, labor and delivery nurse at bryn mawr hospital who helped jimmy francis come in the world switched schedules so collogue could attend a mass and erin's sister and mom were at the mass when the baby was born.

2:00 a.m. heavier rain overnight wednesday morning and then ship in new england. on and off, we will could see a few period of light to maryland rate rain at 11:00 p.m. with lingering showers. for that first ban of heavy rain tomorrow night into wednesday most models between one and 3 inches and that looks likely. some spots north and west could see locally higher amounts. we have tropical trouble to talk b this is tropical depression number 11. wind sustained at 35, gusts at 45. this is expected to be tropical storm joaquin. this is location on friday and latest track takes it off the new jersey coast, saturday at 2:00 p.m., impact will include heavy rain especially along the coast, strong gusty wind on saturday, additional beach erosion which we have been dealing with all weekend long with the flow, and coastal flooding and dangerous rip currents. there is still a lot of uncertainty. coneys very, very wide. it could miss us all together but want to plan for at least another round of heavy rain on saturday and again those
