to get prepared. >> reporter: using we havery machinery to suck dirt and gunk out of the storm drains in connecticut crews are getting ready for what could be a very wet weekend. >> we're always hoping for the the best but breaker for the worst. >> reporter: many people along the east coast are starting the storm preps just in case. >> things can become missiles. anything that is not the nailed down has to be brought in if it continues to the path it is going. >> reporter: hurricane jack ken churning near bohamas strengthened to a major hurricane wednesday night with sustained wind of 110 miles an hour. threat of it hitting north carolina, some people are taking it in stride. >> it is what it is. you cannot do nothing about it. if it comes, it comes. if it don't, it don't. >> reporter: storm washed out this road in may and city officials worry another big storm could wash it out again. pennsylvania the red cross is already setting up shelters. >> what we're expecting here is to be on alert for flash floods, as well as power

outages, and so we're trying to get the word out to the community to think ahead to have a plan. >> reporter: residents are stocking up. >> preparation is the key. you have to prepare for everything. >> reporter: even if the storm is still a long way out. andrew spencer, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". and let's just go ahead and call this the calm before the storm. this is a live look at the atlantic city boardwalk and as the the hurricane moves up the coast this could be a very different picture by the weekend. they are bracing for chances of flooding from a different storm system. flooding to contend w lets hope this thing moves off, the coast, out to sea. >> at this point that european model where it goes straight east. >> i would love to say that will be the the case but i have to tell you the euro has not had a great track record. they used to call it the answer key but we have to keep an eye on all of them. more likely scenario is it hugs coastline that would be better than a direct hit.

>> but this rain has nothing to do with the the hurricane. >> this rain has everything to do with the cold front. >> there we go. >> lets start off with where hurricane is right now. very powerful. category three. sustained wind of 120 miles an her moving west southwest at 5 . it is no joke joaquin and expected to strengthen to a category four and then we are expecting to see it ramp down. this is latest model data and consensus would have it going right along the coast, weakening and as we get in the time frame of tuesday and in the overnight hours there that it would be skirting the companies but this is, kind of a combination of several models one saying it goes out to sea, other says it comes inland. what we do know is we have to keep an eye on this and we are likely to see a lot of win and rain from it. hurricane probability for win, tropical storm force wind about 30 percent here for philadelphia. so that is in itself can cause a lot of problems. because we have different models, gfs says we will get 4 .

now. still looking good right there on woodhaven road between 95 and boulevard. schuylkill eastbound between girard and vine, right lane is block due to construction. also phillies game tonight has been rescheduled from what was 7:05 to 12:05 due to weather and possible rain tonight. make note for those going to the baseball game. clean up still on the parkway. erika, over to you. >> still more to clean up, thanks, meisha. man accused of starting this destructive fire at this construction cities due in court. police arrested steven petaway yesterday and charged him with arson. detectives say he is man seen in surveillance pictures right here. authorities say he intentionally set that fire on south 13th street last month but they did not offer a motive. that building was under cop trucks and two adjacent buildings were also damage. two men are now charged with beating and robbing an elderly war hero in chester county. only "eyewitness news" was there as zachary hails was

brought into custody. the authorities say hail is a and john reid pushed their way in to the 81 year-old's home in west vincentown ship in july. authorities also say that hails was an appliance repairman and he had performed work at that home shortly before the robbery. >> they knew he was elderly. they knew he lived in the isolated area they knew he paid in cash. they knee he lived alone. defendant went through his drawers. the defendant took cash, prescription pain medicine, a lap top computer. even jewelry that belonged to his late wife. >> authorities say that the the two suspects used that money to buy heroin in kensington. testimony continues today in the center city building collapse murder trial. contractor griffin campbell is charged with six counts of the third degree murder. he was in charge of the demolishing a building at between the second and market streets when it crashed down on the salvation army store in june 2013 killing six people. prosecutors say that campbell cut corners on that project to

5:38. exciting day here in philadelphia, city is opening an iconic music venue. >> tonight is big grand opening of the fillmore which will feature performances from great rock and role hall of famers. "eyewitness news" reporter yan january carabao is live with us with the exciting details, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the fillmore is a beautiful mix between old and new, the the music hall here plays homage to its roots in san francisco and music scene in 1965 but it ties in a few locations here in philadelphia take a look at this, this is a great example from a far this is a re-creation of the betsy ross flag but up close, you can see it is made up of fillmore poster arts. they have played at fillmores all across the u.s. for tonight, opening night philadelphia's own hall and oathes takes the the stage here in fishtown. finishing touches are now in place a at the fillmore in fishtown, outside, the sign is

bill gets out and takes his walk this time of the morning. he said cloudy, breezy, dew point have of 52. we have a dew point and it is breezy, right. we will take a live look at storm scan three. this is independent of yak ken. this is weather ahead of the cold front. we will see that rain track in throughout our day to day and also into tomorrow. so those showers will be with us. we have a coastal flood concern here. we have got coastal flood advisories, a few watches and warnings up and down new jersey and delaware coastline. you have saturated ground. anymore additional rain can cause a problem. wind out there? you bet. out of the north east at 18 miles an hour. it is very breezy. temperatures are very cool. sixty-three in philadelphia. forty-nine in mount pocono. sixty-three in wildwood. fifty-six for those waking up in lancaster this morning. joaquin right now, is at a category three. as you can see we have no real major conn sense news these models. one takes it out to sea, another one inland and north carolina and truth will lie somewhere in between.
