weather team we have been bringing you weather via meteorologist lauren casey. no, sir nice to deliver good news today. >> little bit of good news. >> things will get better and better. >> as we see by tuesday it will be really nice. a nice day at the end of all of this dreary damp weather, chilly weather with temperatures running below average again today. highs will run below average but we will do better, little will bit more mild then temperatures yesterday. we have been in the upper 50's in philadelphia for highs, yesterday and we are close to that, 55 degrees right the now you in philadelphia. and, mid 40's in the poconos. 57 degrees in atlantic city. still dealing with those strong northeasterly wind, 15 to 20 miles an hour with some higher gusts, we could continue to see gusts, 40 to 45 miles an hour along the coast. that coastal flood warning remains in effect throughout the day and then will expire at 6:00 o'clock this evening when wind finally, start to let up. but another windy day, in the delaware valley. chance of a morning sprinkle,

otherwise mainly dry conditions. 63 degrees. some improvement this afternoon. down the shore conditions, still kind of brutal. cloudy, passing sprinkle, those gusty wind, high in the middle 60's. poconos, quiet the day, less wind but still breezy, mostly cloud which high temperature in the middle 50's but we will push temperatures up and clear clouds out in your extended forecast and we will have all details coming up in a few minutes, nicole. >> thank you. this south jersey home was swept away by flood waters in the medicine will of the bay and township officials are trying to figure out how to get that sinking home back to shore. "eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson has the story and is what next for the home owner. >> reporter: here today, gone tomorrow. >> only a pile of two-by-four's, and, hopefully rebuild. >> reporter: with the side of his home broken and now mostly submerged in the distance we have stumbled upon owner stewart tait with the same disposition neighbors have come to know him by, half

naked, big smile, double mint hair, surfer dude attitude. >> nobody is hurt, it is only wood. come on i got a hammer, i got a skill saw. >> reporter: neighbors were a little more anxious, friday night many waking up to the sound of the home's pilings snapping off sending it drifting down the grassy sound channel past a half dozen homes in middletown ship until it finally stopped. >> it is a shame. it sure is a shame. one of those things you just seen for years and wondering when would it happen. >> reporter: tait freely admits it has been a structural mess falling slowly in the channel for years despite attempts to fix it. he said wind, water level of this storm was simply the last straw. >> it snapped the pilings. the current was so strong i looked at, the the the timbers 60 feet long broken like tooth picks. >> reporter: police say no one was home, hurt and because of the structure wasn't connected to any utilities, in real danger to neighbors. and for the men watching

nearly three decades of memories float away, i guess you can say they are kin dried spirits, both keeping drifting until it is time for a change. >> i will stay jersey strong and rebuild. >> reporter: that home owner has been in touch with middletown ship police, police in touch with the department have of environmental protection and the coastguard, as they all figure out how to safely remove that home out of the channel without any of that debris causing problems. reporting from middletown ship, i'm steve paterson for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". meanwhile, the high wind pushed sand up and over a boat in ocean city. this viewer send us this videos of the catamaran buried in the dunes at 40th street. jim said he happened upon the boat during his annual fishing trip with his brother, josh and mike. one woman was hit by a tree and killed driving along route 34 in coldsneck township monmouth county on saturday. police are investigating what brought that tree down. meantime areas along the east coast people are dealing with

record setting rains and flooding. cbs news correspondent weijia chang reports from norfolk, virginia. >> reporter: number of areas in charleston south carolina are flooded bias much as several feet of water. stranding cars and effectively shutting down the city. >> what we want to do is help people get through these next two days, and in one getting hurt. >> reporter: high waters are effecting part of the city that don't generally flood. >> you know, we have a little water on the street. >> what we have right now this is a disaster. if you are coming downtown and you need a inflatable boat in the trunk of your car. >> reporter: same situation in florence, coastal city near new born as well as other parts of the north carolina, heavy flooding and rain that just keeps falling. >> we have flood warnings right now primarily in the southeastern part of the state and far southwestern part of the state, something that we didn't expect, two days ago.

>> reporter: weijia chang for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". at least five weather-related deaths have been reported while rain and flood warnings remain in effect for parts of the east coast. now, good news is that hurricane joaquin won't hit the east coast but now island of bermuda is bracing for that impact. this is a live look at bermuda ahead of the storm. joaquin is up to a category four. bohamas are now cleaning up, the aftermath of the hurricane. island's airport terminal was damaged in this storm and luckily there have been no fatalities. well, search continues this morning for a missing cargo ship lost in the ocean by hurricane joaquin. ship has 33 people on board, most of them americans. the life raft was found yesterday but there is no sign of that ship. u.s. coastguard began searching for the ship on thursday after a crew radioed for help saying they lost power and they were taking on water. the commander of the u.s. forces in afghanistan says the the military is opening up an investigation into the deadly bombing of a doctor's

without borders facility. it happened in the northern city of kundes, 19 people including 12 staffers from the the charity died in the air strike. u.s. army spokesmen said war planes hit the medical facility while returning fire against taliban fighters. new this morning police are investigating a whom identify in the strawberry mansion neighborhood of philadelphia. two men shot at 29th and cumberland just before 2:30. one man died, another was rush to the hospital with multiple gunshot wound. he is now in critical condition. the there are no details on the suspect at this time. and a swarthmore college student dies after falling down a embankment. police say anthony, was in a wooded area on the delaware county campus when he fell 45 feet. this happened yesterday afternoon in the 500 block of college avenue. officials ruled the death, an accident. well, more than two dozen students are recovering from injuries after a concrete awning collapses on them. they were at a high school marching band competition in north carolina at the time.

student were standing under that awning when a truck hit one of the support beams causing the collapse. one of the students has life threatening injuries. well, new for three on your side report, keep your eyes on the road, it is one of the first instructions we hear when learning how to drive and now drivers have the option to have have information, project in their line of sight. so, does this mean added safety or just another distraction behind the wheel? consumer reporter jim donovan takes a look. >> reporter: when private pilot jerry green field first saw a head up display it was in a flight simulator. >> you see the flight instruments, you'll see air speed. >> reporter: today a growing number of auto makers are building similar displayness to vehicles, equipment that projections things like speed or navigation into the driver's field of vision. >> i like the idea of being able to look straight ahead, and seeing all of the information i need, without having to look away from the road. >> reporter: ron montoya of edmunds.com has tested

vehicles with the technology built in. he feels these type of displays make a drive more safe. >> when you look the at your speed gauges or your navigation screening you are taking your eyes off the road even if only for a brief moment. >> reporter: some companies are developing display that is will allow drivers to receive and respond to text messages or post to social media all while keeping their eyes on the road. >> the technology seems promising and seems to integrate a couple more phone features which we're not getting from the factory system. >> reporter: triple a says head up display was driving information do have a potential to make drivers safer behind the wheel. but more testing is needed to study impact that they have on driver distractions, and the risk. >> the risk is that if we are projecting information, on the windshield or in the forward driving environment that isn't integral that we're overloading the driver. >> reporter: right now head up displays are built in the small number of car models but experts point out that often

animals look for food in peoples yard. hernandez said some neighbors encouraged it by feeding the bears. >> it is a crime and you can actually do jail time for it if you are caught doing this. some of my neighbors give them dog food, 25-pound bags. one laid that i makes them meat loaf. >> reporter: while it may sound fun which two young kid hernandez isn't taking any chances. the his daughter's bedroom window is boarded up to prevent bears from sliding the glass opened and installed these cameras that alert him when there is any activity at the home. >> there is nothing more dangerous in the forest then a mother bear, nothing. >> reporter: so why live in the foot hills. >> you can have drive bears or bears, what will it be? so, for me, i'll choose the the wild life but just don't feed them. >> reporter: for her heroics, jewels got a bath , treat and lots of kisses. i'm rebeck, cbs two news. >> did i hear that ride did they feed the bears if is

the south ape portions of the carolinas, seeing that on shore flow, continuing to build on in due to a stalled out area of low pressure sitting off shore, for the last several days, and we are dealing with now catastrophic, flooding in portions of the carolinas particularly south carolina we will be moved closer to home, clouds in place, but not seeing a lot in the way of shower activity. we will have a mainly dry day but another windy day, peak wind gusts over the last 24 hours, a hearty one, 62 miles an hour in cape may. sussex close to 60 miles per hour. we're gusting to 35 miles an hour in philadelphia, over the last 24 hours. and then we do have those intense wind speeds because we have this coastal low that has been just sitting there really since mid week last week. high pressure to the north, that frees up a pressure gradient to intensify the wind pulling them out of the north east, brings that cooler air in off shore as well but as we head into tomorrow, that low will start to sneak its way, very slowly, out to sea.

we will see improving conditions, gradually, and then by tuesday, as that low moves even so further away sunshine will be able to return especially with high pressure building from the west, very strong area of high pressure. temperatures bump up in the 70's and then by wednesday, with high pressure overhead that low continuing to move out, bright sunshine, mild conditions, high temperatures return, back to average. that will be a nice time to head out and check out the fall foliage, colors started to break out across upstate, new york, up in the poconos, we're seeing change right now as we head down in the pine barons but in and around the delaware valley we will wait a couple weeks to see some change. komen three day as we were talking about, better conditions for today, climbing up in the lower 60's. still mostly cloudy with breaks in the cloud deck for late day, windy for the first half of the day with those wind still up around ten to 20 f the north east, and temperatures climbing in the low 60's but still well below average. we should be in the lower

hour, and of course, we are seeing higher gusts. the current wind along the coast right now on the jersey shore 24 miles an hour in atlantic city. that is sustained not including those gusts. upward of 35 to 40 miles per hour and because of that, we still do have this coastal flood warning in effect. it does expire today though at 6:00 o'clock but we have some concerns, with that coastal flooding, we have seen reports over the the last couple of days, especially, with a mediate coastline with that flooding. too day we're looking better. blustery this morning. passing sprinkle. windy throughout the day. feeling brisk. temperatures are on the more mild side 63 degrees but still well below average. we should be around 70 but we will get there as we head into the the next couple of days and we will talk about what to expect a really nice stretch, coming up in a few, nicole. >> lauren, thank you. final day of the three day walk for the the cure is now underway. it is the last 20 miles of the 60-mile inspirationallal journey in the fight against breast cancer. cherri greg from kyw news

radio 1060 live at the convention center where walkers have taken off, they are out and about and on this journey, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, nicole. i have moved, i'm now at 15th and jfk, three and a half mile mark from the convention center, they have about 16 and a half more miles to go. walkers are coming across the street as you can sianni besides these beads that i'm wearing and bright pink colors, one of the things that keeps everybody going is the cheering sections. i have a crew right here, they have cow bells. they are wearing the beads. they are cheering. they are even bringing their dogs out to say, and here's lewis, she's cheering her friend kristin on, right here. they are all very happy. lewis is here. you just gave someone a hug. >> that was my friend kristin. >> wonderful. >> so kristin, kristin's grandmother is a 20 year survivor. you were doing this walk with her previously. >> i did it three years before with her and she is at her

may county, still sits in the middle of the bay this morning. take a look drenching rain and high tides caused the house to snap free from the support beams in the lower lying area of middletown ship, new jersey no one was home when the the house broke away. home owner vows to rebuild. ologies are trying to figure out how on get that sinking home back to shore. storm battered ocean city with strong wind and beach erosion. folks road out the storm in different ways. our natasha brown has their story. >> reporter: brutal blinding whipping wind blocked out the sound of everything, except a bulldozer. while last minute gaps in the sand dunes were filled in, ocean city surfers did what surfers do and ignored safety warnings, patheling out into six to 8-foot waves. >> i am here, i think, with locals it is wait for october and november because we have have had winter come and hurricane season is coming. i think everybody is scared. >> everybody is scared after sandy. >> reporter: one man took

storm warnings with the grain of salt or sand perhaps but still, called in help from his brothers to secure his home. >> i had my brothers down here. we're getting furniture out of the way and stuff like. that we may be late with the win. >> reporter: heavy rainfall with the effects of high tide providing for early flood i go and road closures on the bay side of the island. but for one local surf that quickly made this a one and down outing. >> it is windy. it is 30, and the waves are big. six, seven, maybe 9 feet. i was hoping to get just one wave. >> reporter: rest of the shore residents are riding out stormy waters too relieved that the worst of hurricane joaquin appears to have missed the new jersey coast. natasha brown for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". meanwhile police have a four year-old boy in custody this morning in connection with the series of 15 armed robberies near drexel university campus. investigators say that the 14 year-old suspect is seen in this video attempting to use the victim's at in m card inside a convenience store at

38th and aspen. philadelphia police say that suspect lives in the neighborhood. >> just walking out of the store we noticed he was short. his shoulder went up to the push bar on the door. we still expected him to be as rick tim described eight to 25 but we were shock to go learn when we brought him in custody he was only 14 years of age. >> investigators say majority of the victims were female students. seven of the robberies happened in the last ten days. and a double shooting leaves one man dead and suspects gunman is behind bars. shots were fired in the 300 block of east wistar street in germantown around six credit 30 last night. philadelphia police say a 19 year-old was shot once in the chest and died at einstein medical center. twenty-nine year-old suspect was arrested after checking himself in the same hospital for a bullet wound to his rib cage. police are investigating a homicide in the nicetown tioga section of the city. police say a five two-year old woman was attacked and killed by a person that she knew. it happened inside of a rooming home in the 3700 block of north 18th street.

a 54 year-old man was taken into custody and unclear whether charges have been filed. police in deptford township are investigating a suspect murder suicide. the officers responded to the heritage housing development on idle wood way around 8:15 yesterday morning. they say that 67 year-old man called 911 to report a shooting in that home. when officers arrived, they found the man in his seven two-year old wife, suffering from gunshot wounds. and they were rushed to the hospital where doctors pronounced them dead. police have not released the couple's name, the heritage is a community for people over the age of 55. in oregon this weekend investigators released chilling new details since the deadly shooting rampage in the community college. one of the survivors said the gun man delivered a final message. cbs news correspondent chris martinez has the very latest. >> reporter: medical examiner, has determined that the cause of death of the shooter to be suicide. >> reporter: authorities now say that chris harper mercer died by his own hand, shooting

and killing himself after exchanging gunfire with police. >> the suspect is down. >> reporter: a newly released time line shows the shooter was down ten minutes, after the first call, to 911. >> to the families of the victims, our hearts are with you. >> reporter: authorities say gunman killed nine people, whose ages ranged from 18 to 67. sixteen year-old shyann fitzgerald was among nine people injured, she lost her kidney. >> she was shot through the back and it clipped her lung. >> reporter: ana boylen was sitting next to her, her family says his shooter singled out their victims based on their religion. >> he was asking people when they were christian. if they were christian he said something like you will be with god soon. that is what i have been told. >> reporter: shooter reportedly left a document with one of the students to hand over to the police, and it could offer more insight. a source described it as a rant of someone who was mad at the world. he wrote about feeling like a

coastline. so future wind speeds our model data showing us wind will start to calm down especially by tuesday morning, and then by late day tuesday, much more enjoyable conditions so far as the winds are concerned. hurricane joaquin latest advisory still a category three storm, wind at 115 miles an hour. it is starting to weaken as it moves its the way up in the higher latitudes and cooler waters. it will continue to move off shore, not posing a threat to the u.s. coastline and not posing a threat to us here in the delaware valley and that is definitely good news, and, some good news in your forecast for today, a morning sprinkle really passing on through, otherwise, windy conditions, man mainly dry with those clouds starting to break up a little bit as we head into this afternoon. this evening, sunset at 6:39. wind still out of the north around ten to 15. pretty breezy here. and, dropping down in the lower 50's, and wind do start to let up, as we head into monday. temperatures take a boost up in the upper 60's.

affecting the westbound lanes but off to the shoulder. westbound lanes, passing by, moving along just fine, and through, away from the ambulance. eastbound lanes is our main concern quite jammed through montgomery drive and girard avenue as they try to clear out very serious accident this morning. we're going to move the traffic cam to i-95 right at the airport here. if you are trying someone to the airport or maybe heading off to the trip this morning, no delays or problems, on this portion of the i-95. it is in great shape. i-95 through philadelphia looks okay too. so on to ben franklin bridge, now the ben franklin bridge does have construction on it, eastbound, heading to, actually heading to new jersey, the the entire length of the bridge. right lane closed this construction scheduled through november, so far, no delays or problems, it is not affecting traffic. the further up if you are going to the shore no delays on the ac expressway organ even state parkway, earlier flooding is gone and both of those highways are good to go. the that is very latest from the cbs-3 traffic center, i'm
