"eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter who is live on the main campus in spring garden, walt? >> reporter: jessica, we have major new developments here just within the past few minutes on the lock down on the report of the man with a gun here earlier today. seven members of the central detectives division has just arrived here moments ago, right now, according to philadelphia's police commissioner, they are reexamining, the the report of a man with a gun, here. the commissioner says as of right now there has been in report of a gun being found, no report of any video showing a gun and there are now questions being raised about the initial report, that led to this major incident this morning. only cbs-3, "eyewitness news" cameras were on campus, as the first swat teams arrived at community college of philadelphia. heavily armed officers, immediately sealed off the cam puts. searching for a man with a gun reported to have run into one

of the school buildings. inside, students and teachers, sheltering behind closed doors, a as officials ordered a lock down. >> teacher stood by the door. if a gun came to me i would be like wow, wow, he but he stood at the door and we sat at our desk a and swat team took care of it. >> reporter: police said the the incident began help a man with the gun threatened a student outside of the school in a personal dispute, and then ran inside. that dispute, police em fattized not connected in anyway, to monday's cyber threats to local campuses. >> it doesn't appear that it had anything to do with the threat that we were talking about, yesterday, at all. these are individuals that had a beef with one another and one of them had a gun. >> reporter: after nearly two hours this 17 year-old man was taken into custody by police at a school adjoining the community college. he was then, brought to central detectives to be questioned. police say that the man was

not armed, when he was arrested, offered no resist tense and as of right now, he does not face any criminal charges. >> we're going to go continue our search because we still got a firearm that is somewhere and we have to make sure it is not just laying around. >> reporter: as of right the now, no gun has been found, detectives again as we just showed you live arriving back here at the scene trying to piece together exactly what really did happen here this morning. and police commissioner ramsey just moments ago telling cbs-3 that there is no video to indicate any gun or perhaps any fight that occurred here. you'll here from the commissioner with the latest on the investigation and we will have very latest live from community college, at 6:00. for now live from community college of philadelphia, i'm walt hunter, for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". thanks, walt. day care right next door to the community college was placed on lock down while police searched for the alleged gunman. this is eyewitness cam video of the student being brought away inside day care at 16th

and hamilton. they were outside on a playground when they were told to go back inside. as walt mentioned, students at the college sheltered in place and while no one was injured people were on edge. our live team coverage continues with "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff. alex, you spoke with two brothers who used cell phones to stay in contact. >> reporter: jessica, that is right, social media is the way that most people who were out here students who were out here communicated with friend that they had inside of those lock down campus buildings. so anybody who was walking past me right the now thinks all anyone is talking about. it will be a day that they remember as an odd one but thankfully not a tragic one. shouting over the sound of the shock and sirens. students tried to ease the mind of those on the other end of frantic phone calls. >> i'm okay. >> reporter: this is a cpp

student got out of campus buildings before the lock down. the his brother yousef did not. >> stay in place. >> reporter: thinks a snapshot that yousef sent to mohammad inside the student life building as swat team members searched for gunman. >> based honoraries event events, i just wanted to tell him to stay on the phone with me. >> reporter: it was a yot for the entire school system as the waiting game, began. >> i don't know what to think and neither do i. difficult my homework. i want to turn it in. this is kind of of very, very scary. >> reporter: fear dissipated once word of the us peck in custody spread and the lock down was lifted. thomas lopez was in the building where a man fitting the description of the suspect was removed by police. >> when i saw them apprehend the the the suspect. i said wow, cops got him. >> reporter: among crowd of students who emerged on to spring garden street is the brother yousef. >> you know, my brother, it could have been a big problem.

>> we were both happy. >> you know, everyone got back in and thank god nobody got hurt. >> reporter: those brothers tell me they got calls from family members as far away as italy, asking if they were okay. classes will resume as normal starting tomorrow. reporting live from the spring garden street, alexandria hoff, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". alex, thank you. this is not the the first gun scare at the community college of philadelphia a back in may of last year a student pulled a gun in the ccp building. he was allegedly upset at another student for talking about him. the gun man in that case is serving four years probation for weapons charges. coming up tonight on "eyewitness news" at 6:00 we will look at safety measures on campus and how easy it the is to get in and out of the campus buildings. during and after the gun scare many people were sharing updates and fears on social media. here are a few we found on twitter. a twitter user named my thought my soul said this

being on lock down was horrifying. twitter user danielle massleni said so scary we were aware of potential shooting at a philadelphia a college and suspect still, brought gun, thank god no shooting occur. another twitter user jason said this, it is sad that the best solution for gun control toys set up metal detectors in schools and public places hashtag change the culture. we were on the air from the time all this unfolded until the time police arrested this suspect. stay with cbs-3 "eyewitness news" for very latest on the campus gun scare. when we're not on tv we will have the latest on line at cbs philly.com. suspicious vehicle triggered a security scare at nazareth middle school in natural hampton county. administrators locked down the street after someone spotted the vehicle in the parking lot. chopper three over that scene this morning. police located the driver off campus just before the a.m. and the school resumed normal activities. no further information was released.

philadelphia police are investigating a deadly shooting in hunting parkas a possible hate crime. police say that a transgendered woman was a attacked by a group of men, shot, and then left to die. "eyewitness news" reporter rahel solomon is live at the scene in hunting park with more, rahel. >> reporter: jim, good evening. police are being very careful not to call this a hate crime, not yet at least but they say they are investigating that possibility. meantime neighbors hearsay thinks an area known to have a sizable transgender community, some even telling me that they have been attack before. >> they didn't have a life yet. it is sad, really sad. >> reporter: neighbors found the news shocking, tuesday. philadelphia police now investigating the murder of who friends tell me thinks woman 22-year old keisha jenkins. >> it is really sad. it is sad to have your life taken away from you. >> reporter: police received reports of the shooting around 2:30 tuesday morning, sources within the department tell me that the victim may have been working as a prostitute.

when police arrived they found jenkins shot twice in the back. >> decedent had just gotten out of the vehicle and was assaulted, by five or six unidentified males. >> reporter: police say it is too soon to call this a hate crime but they are actively investigating that possibility. >> we will talk to more people and get to the bottom of it and the the autopsy results will come back with different things and we will put it all together an from that we will see if that is classified as a hate crime or not. >> reporter: woman who did not want her face shown but close to many of the transgendered women in this hunting park area say they have been attacked before. >> this street out here, that is what they do out here. they target the transgendered, to rob them, you know, and this is what they do. >> reporter: i'm told detectives will be back out here in this area canvassing looking for surveillance as they tried to identified and then future arrest the the five to six people they believe are responsible. they are urging anyone who has information, to please come

forward. reporting live rahel sol machine for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> rahel, thanks very much. lets look at weather. we have had a great fall day out there but changes are on the way. meteorologist kate bilo is live on the cbs-3 sky deck with the first look the a the forecast, kate. >> jessica, perfect october weather outside right now. we started off october in a little bit of the rough note with cool conditions, rain clouds and strong gusty wind but things have improved. today has been nicest day in quite sometime and next couple of days look similarly beautiful. lets take a quick look at storm scan three and we had can see what is going on outside not a whole lot. few clouds coming from the west. we can see those cloud coming in. tomorrow is another warm day a lot like today but it will not be quite as sun which that bright blue skies. we have a few clouds in the morning and more sunshine in the afternoon. temperatures right now nice and warm. we're at 75 degrees at the the airport. sixty-seven in atlantic city. cooler still down the shore, it is 74 in trenton and in reading. the good news is wind have died down's long the the

coast. we can see that on shore flow, still an issue, not quite as bad today but that is keeping it cooler down the shore but wind dying down, more of a westerly flow setting up and that means threat for coastal flooding is diminishing and then first forecast looks fantastic. once the the sun goes down, we dropped quickly in the 60's and back to the 50's again tonight. we do have some rain coming up by end of the week and we will have more on that when i join you inside. back over to you. >> kate, we will see you in a bit. man is behind bars tonight accused of leading police on a wild pursuit through two delaware county communities. >> authorities say an officer spotted 18 year-old kyle usher driver's radically around 6:30 this morning and then took off and crashed a half mile away into four parked cars outside glenn olden apartment complex. >> saw the police surrounding the car, heard the one officer say get out of the car, get on your knees. >> usher was taken in custody at the scene.

police tell us that the pedestrian standing nearby was injured in the incident. at last check that person was in surgery. a single car accident injuries two philadelphia police officers overnight. police say that their marked suv hit a tree in southwest philadelphia and came to rest in the middle of the bartram avenue. a male officer hurt his neck and back in that crash. a female officer broke a thigh bone. both were hospitalized but they are expected to recover. no word what caused the officer to lose control. coming up on cbs-3 "eyewitness news" a plane carrying a film crew crashes into a lake. wait until you hear how the crew made to it shore and survived. and it the is a favorite breakfast food for many, and now nearly 2 million boxes of cheerios and honey nut cheerios are recalled, what is inside of those box that he is can make some people sick. a scandal may be developing for fantasy football allegations of inside are trading resulting in a big win, could others be doing the same? i'll have the full story when

a pilot and three passengers survive when a plane plunges in the lake in east texas. three pass eveningers were part of the film crew and they survived that crash landing by

barnegat light at 64. rehoboth beach is at 71 at the moment. not as bad, things have been slow to improve down the shore but today a much better day then we have seen through the the weekend. warm week ahead. temperatures in the 07's and partly sunny for tomorrow. more cloud in the morning and then in the afternoon, the front comes through but notice coming through generally dry and it fizzles through our area highs right around 70 degrees on thursday. friday starts off nice but grab an umbrella as you head out to work on friday because you may need it the by evening. mostly sunny, warm temperatures, highs in the 07's. joaquin still a category one hurricane and could make it as remnants at least all the way to europe as we head through end of the week. mainly clear and cool overnight at 57. your wednesday looks great, sun and crowd, more clouds in the morning more sun in the afternoon, eyewitness weather three day forecast, wednesday, thursday look g friday starts off okay but rain friday evening, and coming up in our next half an hour i will tell when that will impact the weekend. that is the big question and i

welcome back. we will begin at 5:30 with new information on the campus gun scare, the community college of philadelphia a swat teams converged on the main campus in spring garden to search for a man that reportedly had a gun around 9:30 this morning. the college was lock down, student sheltered in place. police say that the incident began as an argument between a 17 year-old and a student at the school. police initially said that during the dispute the 17 year-old pulled a gun and ran in the building.

we have learned from our own walt hunter that a gun may not have been involved. the 17 year-old was later taken into custody a short time ago. police commissioner charles ramsey told us a gun still has in the been found. >> there is a little bit of inconsistency in the the victim's statements. there is a witness that did not see a gun. the young man that we have in custody said he never had a gun. so we don't know. we have not found one and we found no evidence the so far to indicate that he did have one but we could be wrong. the investigation is continuing. witnesses still being interviewed. he is being interviewed. >> commissioner ramsey says it appears that this incident is not connected to yesterday's threat of violence against philadelphia area colleges. keep it right here on "eyewitness news" for continuing coverage of the campus gun scare. you can get the latest anytime on our web site at cbs philly.com. a federal audit was just released showing some state inspected day care centers are not up to standard. "eyewitness news" reporter greg argos compares those with

centers that are doing it right. >> reporter: the children center in center city, when a child care center should look like, with clean facilities, excited kid, plenty of teachers and monitors and safe, clean outdoor space. this is what a federal audit found at three other pennsylvania child care centers that received federal cash, and passing grade from state day care inspectors. >> i think that you know, inspectors may have missed things. they may have been rush. we may not have gotten out there in time. the there is some level inspectors may be missing things because we were asking them to do too much. >> reporter: dallas pennsylvania secretary of the department of human services says his department is now in the process of hiring more inspectors. the federal audit found we have just one per 143 day care centers, about three times the recommended ratio of one to 50. >> one of the things we are doggies we're hiring 40 additional inspectors. >> reporter: the child care

centers audited one in philadelphia, another in bethlehem and third in harrisburg all unidentified had major safety issues, including exposed wiring in a play ground, bleach and cleaning supplies accessible to children, even the sharp fence in a play area. >> what it drove home to me was importance of quality as you are picking child care if you are a parent. >> reporter: that quality is quantified in our state's keystone star program. >> the voluntary program. >> reporter: terry, the regional director for our area says it is important for parents to check out the a child care center's rating and like children's village make sure it is highly rated. >> is it clean? is it bright? those are things to look for? kind of feeling you've got that this is the right place for my child. >> reporter: key here of course is due diligence. parents should take a time to check center's keystone star rating before enrolling their child. you should of course physically go to the building, facility and check it out as well. alex, with the three centers in the federal audit, state

officials have revoke license of one of them. live from the sat center, i'm greg argos for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". on the cbs-3 healthwatch, general mills is recalling 1.8 million boxes of cheerios, gluten free cereals might be contaminated with wheat which could make people sick. >> health reporter stephanie stahl is here now to explain this problem. >> reporter: gluten free is the the big thing now, everybody seems to want it and 20 million americans have trouble eating things that contain gluten. so they rely on products like gluten free cheerios. well, maker says contamination was an isolated incident of human error that happened at a plant in california. general millions is voluntarily recalling classic cheerios and honey nut cheerios which are sold as gluten free. 150,000 cases were contaminated with wheat which contains gluten. >> how serious of a problem do you think this is. >> it is significant. >> reporter: doctor robin rossstein a gastroenterologist with temple university hospital says millions of
