♪ right now at 11:00, a community unites in grief. hundreds gathered to remember a three-year-old boy found dead in a wooded area of camden county. good evening to you, i'm jessica dean. >> i'm ukee washington. brendan cree at tow' death remains mystery at this hour. officers found the toddler's body in the woods off south park drive less than a mile from his father's home. "eyewitness news" david spunt was at tonight's vigil where a

community is trying to deal with this tragedy. david. >> there are so many questions in this case and we're trying to find out as many answers as possible. many people at the vigil night didn't even know the cree at tow family they just came to offer some kind of peace. >> ♪ >> reporter: as the sun set, anxious neighbors from haddon township and beyond gathered outside a local church to sing, pray and ask why? >> for those who do believe in god it is a time to really feel that faith. >> reporter: neighbors woke up to text messages from authorities asking for help to find the three-year-old. he went missing from his dad's apartment on cooper street early tuesday morning around 6:00 o'clock. intense search continued until 9:00 o'clock when authorities found the little boy's body by the woods not even half a mile from his dad's home. >> i drove past there a few times. it was scary. >> reporter: "eyewitness news"

has learned his parents are separated and he spent the night with his dad. family friends tell "eyewitness news" both parents spent hours being questioned by police. not somebody from this town much it's not his family. it's not a stranger did this. >> many individual crowd new brendan personally. >> hhe was going to be the hulk for halloween. he was joy. >> crowd placed candles, stuffed animals an collage in front of the building where he spent the night. brendan's grandfather david told "eyewitness news" i hope no parent or grand parent has to go through this. brendan was the sunshine of our lives. he had a special character about him. we are devastated. brendan's mother released the following statement "we are heart broken by the loss of our beautiful boy brendan cree at tow along with the cree at tow family who also lost a son and grandson we are grieving and tremendously saddened.

we thank the community which searched this morning for brendan and gathered tonight in his memory. we appreciate your efforts and kind words. we do not have any answers about what occur. brendan's dad is still being questioned here at police headquarters but i want to be very clear, nobody has been charged with little brendan's death authorities are looking for tips and information. if you have any information or know anyone that might have some information about this case, call the camden county prosecutor's office immediately. we are live in haddon township tonight david spunt cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> david, candle light vigil held for 14-year-old boy had died today from injuries suffered in shooting last night. family members identified the victim as duvall deshields. police rush him to the hospital. they say what appears to be a beebee gun fell from his clothing. family members say they will never forget the eighth grader's smile and his spirit. >> he was so talented and gifted and dancing and music and -- he

caught on camera vicious assault on homeowner in northeast philadelphia. video shows two suspects knocking on the door of 70-year-old man on the 800 block of well ton street in somerton. once the man opens the door, he's thrown down and hit with some type of metal stick. the victim remains in critical condition with a cracked skull. if you have information please contact the police. >> the search is on for two thieves caught on video stealing an ice cream machine. police say the suspects entered ron's cafe at 5720 north broad street through the back stock room. surveillance video those them carrying that ice cream maker to their blue and white older model chevy suburban. ice cream machine is valued at 9,000 dollars. police in wilmington looking for two young men who damaged a church while trying to break into it. take look at thighs surveillance pictures they braid to break into saint marks united methodist church last month. one of the surveillance pictures has a clear shot of those suspects. one of them. if you have any information

contact delaware state police. tonight philadelphia police commissioner charles ramsay talked publicly about the challenges police officers now face on the streets in the wake of the events in ferguson, missouri and baltimore. and the event itself was interrupted by those with message of their own. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones was there >> reporter: protesters interrupted police commissioner charles ramsay's appearance tuesday night at national constitution center. about a dozen people were holding signs and chanting. >> black lives matter! >> reporter: after many were he is cored out by us park rangers ramsay continued on with his town hall style efforts to strengthen police community relations. he says for reasons of credibility and transparency he supports having the pennsylvania state police head up investigations into philadelphia police officer involved shootings. but he added, people need to

keep in mind officers often confront people with violent intentions. >> you also have to role lies, that everyone shot by a police officer is not someone who is unarmed and innocent and whatever sometimes -- listen i've been here 7.5 years, a little more. i've had eight police officers killed in the lionell of duty. five of them shot to death. i had five in a nine-month span. that's real. that's reality. >> reporter: ramsay also opposes bill right now that's in harrisburg that would prevent police departments from releasing the names of officers involved in shooting. he believes it could have an impact on accountability. reporting from the national couldn't stewing center, todd quinones cbs3 "eyewitness news". funeral services will be held tomorrow for philadelphia civil rights leader jerry montgomery desire. family friends paid that are respects to the former philadelphia naacp president during a viewing at bright hope baptist church earlier tonight. montgomery desire passed away on objection fourth. the funeral will be held at the church tomorrow.

the same date jerry montgomery desire was born, 66 years ago. temple university named and dedicated its medical school to the late lewis cat. the businessman and philanthropist died in plain crash in may 2014. right before his death katz announced a $25 million donation to temple his alma mater. it was the largest single donation in the school's histo history. around 400 friends of the katz family and temple university were on hand for the commemoration. our stretch of warm october days is about to come to an end. meteorologist justin drabick is tracking an autumn chill. >> that's right. a couple of cold fronts moving through the first one coming through right now. last of the rain showers across extreme southern new jersey, cape may county and southern delaware. that will move offshore in about another hour or so. then we're just left with partly cloudy skies. here the set up over the next few days talking about cooler weather fort end of the week. a chilly weekend on tap talking about the coldest air of the season. i'll show you the seven day forecast coming up in few

gorgeous day. people hanging out on the beach and the boardwalk this afterno afternoon. temperatures actually made it into the mid 70s even along the coastline with that wind offshore. so blowing from the land so no influence from the cooler atlantic ocean. as far as the temperatures go again way above average we shall be in the upper 60s this time of year. 76 both on monday and today. now tomorrow closer to average. mid and upper 60 that is be the trend for thursday and again on friday. then we'll drop well below average for saturday and sunday. still mild outside receipt now. the cold front hasn't clear the delaware valley just yet so still upper 60s at the airport in philadelphia. 63 in wilmington. cooler air north and west. so the not cold just yet. 55 in state college. that cooler air mass filters in through the overnight hours. last of the rain showers exiting south jersey right now cape may county. far eastern sussex county, delaware, again another half hour to an hour they'll move offshore just leftover clouds through the overnight hours. here comes front number one offshore tomorrow. we're back to a mix of sun and clouds. not full sunshine.
