♪ from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". the city of brotherly love back in the national spotlight and it's all thanks to the historic run of the temple owls. chopper three live over independence mall where college "game day live" is setting up for tomorrow's big game between temple and notre dame. going to be exciting. good afternoon to you. thanks so much for watching. i'm nicole brewer in for erika von tiehl this afternoon and somebody call a doctor. okay. because the delaware valley has temple football fever as the

undefeated owls look to soar past ninth wrathed notre dame. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson is live for us on independence mall one of the many spots around the city where they are getting pumped. steve. good afternoon. >> reporter: this is ground zero. i mean this is one of the most exciting places in philadelphia right now. i can tell you with everything that has been going on all week this has been the big story. the talk of the town is now notre dame versus temple and we are now very close to the action starting i want to show you behind me. take a look at the setup here. market street shut down between sixth and fifth. you can see the clock now less than 24 hours to go before the game day festivities kick off. i want to show you more video of the setup down here. now, i want temple owl fans to chew on this. temple football ranged nationally for the first time in a lifetime. seven-zero. about to play maybe the biggest game in their modern history against notre dame. we've seen a large contingent of course every temple fans who

have come down to check out the setup but also a lot and i mean a lot of notre dame fans who have made the trip from across the country to see this matchup. we spoke to the representative s of both contingent much listen to this. >> i am so stoke. this is, you know, the fact that temple is seven-zero this year and now college game day is coming to philly, you know, it almost like brings people together and it brings, you know, so much more like school spirit to temple of one is so excited. >> i wasn't expecting this at all honestly. when the schedule was released in the beginning of the season, i was like expecting it to be this hype. i wasn't figuring notre dame will come here in and dominate but now it's actually going to be a game. >> reporter: chopper three-above giving you a live look at the setup down here. again the excitement is building much it is all anyone can talking about. a lot of the notre dame fans we spoke to said they are a little bit scared. temple defense is nationally ranked i think number 13 in the country right now. so notre dame will have a lot to deal with.

it is not just going to be just a steam roll from what notre dame fans are telling us today. but a big matchup. notre dame versus temple. starting tomorrow, of course, college game day here it's not just your normal pre-game show. they do a lot featuring the city. so again philadelphia back on the national stage. we're live at independence mall, i'm steve patterson cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> notre dame should be afraid. very afraid. steve, thanks. they are. on the eve of temple big showdown against the fighting irish you better believe the campus is beaming with pride. before the sun friday to get the festivities going. >> i'm excited to see what goes on this weekend ton see how we come out and i'm just so excited for the crowds and energy. >> reporter: this group will be at the game and on the field at half time at a sold out lincoln financial. it will be twice this season that 70,000 fans have packed the stadium to watch temple footba football. the diamond band remember that is opening game win against penn state. >> this is going to be even more intense. i'm irish but right now i'm bleeding cherry and white. >> also in the stands the most devoted fan the cherry crusaders but first they'll wake up early again tomorrow and take their signs to the college game day broadcast. >> it says you'll need more than the luck of the irish to beat these owls. the excitement not only on campus but around the city is just unbelievable. >> if you had told me two years ago that we were going to have a ranked football team i would would be skeptical. >> reporter: yet here they are setting the best start in temple football history. what's it going to take to pull off the upset and get to

eight-zero. >> we can't control notre dame i they're a great football team. we'll control ourselves and believe in ourselves and each other. >> the team has the support the entire city is getting in on it. there's a pep rally at the bell tower today and you can wish the team a very happy halloween by sharing our video on social media at cbs philly. jan carrabeo cbs3. believe. >> happy owl o wean. >> temple game, halloween event, trick or treating all important forecast. meteorologist kyla live on the sky deck. no pressure kyla but we want good news. okay? >> okay. listen i'm feeling pretty good about this forecast this weekend a have to say a little cooler than yesterday we were talking 70s. today 50s and the sun is struggling so today we'll see some sun but certainly feels much cooler out there. halloween forecast, though, not so scary it looks like we'll stay dry and cool for our saturday. and would you believe i've got more 70s in your seven day forecast? november looks like

it will start as a warm one. currently 55 degrees as we take a live look at center city. the wind is a little bit brisk. 16 miles per hour out of the northwest you feel that when you walk out the door no doubt about it taking a live look at storm scan3. a little more sunshine earlier unfortunately they'll playing us a throughout our afternoon. looking out for high of 59 degrees today. down the shore same story about 51 in the poconos i wanted to talk about halloween records which i'm happy to say it does look like we'll be setting any of them but give you an idea the warmest halloween was in 194682 degrees. coldest 41 degrees in 1925. by the way 1925 was also the snowiest halloween. no thank you. the wettest 1.32-inches of rain in 1895. so we are going to stay dry and relatively cool but certainly not as cool as they were for that record. i will talk hourly forecasts for your halloween, also, football forecast and a look at that seven day with the 70s coming up. nicole. >> kyla, thank you.

meanwhile authorities in allentown say there could be more arrests after a huge brawl near a high school and it's all caught on camera. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch shows us police officers were injured in that melee. >> reporter: cell phone video capturing the sights and sounds of a student coming to blows with an allentown police offic officer. the officer overwhelmed as she tries to stop a previous fight and is making the rounds on social media. >> she had the police. that was crazy. >> really immature. i don't think educational should be doing this. >> reaction to one of several skirmishes thursday afternoon where it was the talk of campus friday morning. >> i think it's super crazy. nothing like that in allentown. always see it on youtube but never witness it before. it's razz see. >> three students were arrested thursday. four officers suffered minor injuries. police estimate as many as 200 students turned out for the fight. though many they say did not

take part. the video shows crowds of students moving off campus and into neighborhoods blocks away. such as 12th and chew streets where this officer involved altercation is reported to have taken place. with the video now in police hands, investigators will continue to review it to identify additional students. in allentown, lehigh county, i'm justin finch, cbs3 "eyewitness news". a man accused of causing a mid air scare on a flight to philadelphia is now in custody and awaiting a mental evaluati evaluation. tmz obtained this video shot by a passenger on flight 754 from los angeles. after take off that man walked toward the first class cabin, reportedly going on about the military, the government and 9/11. now it's not clear if that man is from our area. passengers finally took matter noose their own hands. >> we got duct tape and handcuffs and we had to hold the guy in the seat and fasten his seat belt. if you get up, we're going to duct tape you together. and so we diverted to phoenix.

>> the flight arrived in philadelphia last night. there were no injuries. the unidentified man could face charges of interfering with a flight crew among other things. the us military is working to remove that surveillance blimp from a treacherous ravine in northeastern pennsylvania today. yesterday teams removed 6,000 feet of its tether and sensitive electronic equipment. now officials still don't know how it break free from maryland in that military facility. it drifted for hours over hundreds of miles before coming down in lycombing county yesterday afternoon. well eighths great day for walk, and today a brand new trail is open that's just perfect for that. chopper three over the opening of the new manayunk bridge here. it's the first pedestrian and bike only trail bridge across the schuylkill and also links the cynwyd heritage trail with the river trail. now it was once a railroad bed last used by septa in 1986. it also provides breath taking views of the schuylkill river valley. all right. coming up on cbs3 "eyewitness news", we do have some disturbing video from inside a schoolbus.

those children screaming for that man to stop. classmates say it started with the student nearly missing the bus then didn't listen to the driver about where he was supposed to sit. correspondent has more. >> reporter: gracie foster grabbed her cell phone and started recording the violent confrontation after driver robert scar borrow stopped the bus. >> the bus driver through him down on the ground and started yelling at him. i was shaking and everyone was crying around me. >> get up here! >> you can see on the video as the student throws an object at scarborough. he walks towards the student and according to police, grabbed the special needs student by his jacket, pulled him out of his seat and struck him in the face. >> you don't say that to me! >> oh, my god! >> stop! >> was sitting next to the student. >> he hit him in the head and he has a disability in his head. he's supposed to be watching us and not hurting us. >> reporter: students on the video can be heard crying and

screaming at the driver to stop. stop! >> stop! >> the driver returned his seat and drove to the next stop. students saw a police car parked nearby and ran off the bus to alert the officer. >> sit down! >> you can't do that. >> according to the johnston police department 61-year-old robert scarborough was arrest the at the scene and taken to jail on charges of assault causing injury and child endangerment. and that was elaine hihono reporting. the ntsb is investigating the engine fire of a dynamic airways jet at fort lauderdale's airport yesterday. the engine burst into flames just before the plane was about to leave for venezuela. more than 100 passengers and crew evacuated using emergency slides as black smoke poured from the plane. >> looking out the window, and the baby was looking out the window and i said, fire! fire! fire!

all right. sister, halloween right around the corner. >> you know those trick or treaters are hoping for good news. >> yes, i know. you just don't want to wear your costume with a coat and an umbrella and happy to say we won't have any of that everybody. it will be a little cool so you might need a coat a jacket later in the evening. but pretty good. we'll have a dry forecast. and for me that's the biggest

part right if we're dry we're looking good. now, today we are unfortunately dealing with clouds that are rolling in. let's take live look at our campbell's field camera. you're looking at the ben franklin bridge there and you can see we've had some kind of heavy clouds roll in. battling it out with our sunshine and frankly the clouds are winning. but not a bad day today. just a lot cooler than we were. got lots of sunshine take live look at neighborhood network in kutztown. not everybody dealing witness clouds. beautiful there and 51 degrees. now this is the difference in 24 hours in temperatures much this time yesterday we were talking upper 60s low 70s in spots. now from develop to 18 degrees cooler than just 24 hours ago. temperatures right now at philadelphia 55 degrees. 47 in mount pocono about 56 down in dover and atlantic city coming in at 57. so we're definitely feeling fall like a live look at storm scan3 shows you that we do have those clouds kind of rolling in star starting to build up so our afternoon unfortunately will be plagued with a little cloudy weather. also some wind out there. i felt it out in the sky deck.

16 miles per hour in philadelphia you can see we're in the teens also in reading, lancaster and wilmington. so it's a little brisk. a little bit of a breeze going on. what's happening our setup as we head towards halloween high pressure still hanging on. enough for the first half of the day there to give us some sunshine, then some clouds. 50s we will be staying cool. we've got two systems one to the north of us the one to the south of us will skirt our area but bring clouds in on sunday. 60s for you on your sunday. starting to warm up again. it look like the showers will stay to the south of us overnight sunday into monday. if anything i think a few sprinkles we're looking pretty good. the good news is halloween is great. look at this. we're staying nice and dry sun to start the day. we'll have some spooky clouds for you as we stay in the 50s and wet get into the later part of the evening. if we look across the region in fact we're looking good all the way basicly from boston down to dc. it will ab little cool in the 50s there but just some clouds and staying dry. now, football a lot of people talking about that. temple and notre dame meeting up this saturday night at 8:00 p.m. wind about five to 10 miles an hour. that's pretty good for football.

chilly temperatures there about 50 degrees and a few clouds but not bad if you bring a jacket i think you'll just be fine. so today some sun trying to break through there cooler temperatures a high of just 59. tonight, we'll see overnight low of about 42 degrees. so clear but chilly as we head through our evening. take a look at your seven day forecast and this is the part that gets interesting. first of all want to know we fall back saturday night into sunday when nicole and i have to get up very early. so we're excited we get an extra hour. but do you see what happens on tuesday and wednesday? 70s. >> wow! >> november. >> and into thursday i'm noticing. >> yes. >> 70s. so this cool snap we'll call it does not last long. >> no, but i like that trend. >> i like tight. >> 70 nos october and november. >> shoulder shake going. i just get excited. >> get a little shimmy for the 70s that's what you get when we get good weather. it's time to check your philadelphia job mark report. a new way to help pay off your student loans. >> forget nap rooms and fuse

pool enables the new employee benefit that companies are using to at tract and retain great workers help repaying student loans. in pennsylvania the average student debt in 2014 was more than $32,000. accounting for private price water cooper is the largest company to offer this benefit n2016 it will begin paying $1,200 year towards a young employee's student loan debt for a total of six years. according to the society of human resource management, only 3% of companies currently offer this form of debt relief but that number could grow. that's because employee turnover costs american businesses as much as $11 billion a year. so it's no surprise that companies want to keep employees happy. and with 71% of under grads leaving college in debt, offers to lighten the load appeal to a lot of employees. in the meantime, there are other ways to get some help with your student loan payments. a career in public service can typically result in a portion of your debt being forgiven.

atlantic county didn't allow its elected politicians to take large donations from contractors doing business with the county. then will pauls changed the law, allowing him to pocket thousands of dollars in campaign cash. now pauls is taking thousands from those who want to move casinos to north jersey, threatening our jobs and our local economy. and he said he wants the vote to allow north jersey casinos "this year." we just can't trust will pauls.
