from the cbs3 broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". reports of taken the to do halloween candy sends shock waves through a local community. tonight, police are trying to figure out who is responsible for these chocolate bars with needles hidden inside. good evening, i'm natasha brown. thanking for joining us. police say more than one family discovered the candy in trick or treat bags and the neighborhood of kennett square. rahel solomon has more. >> we checked our -- went find any in the snickers only in the twix. >> reporter: instead of eating his candy he's trying to help police understand why his twixhad a needle in it. >> how could anybody do anything like that? that's unbelievable. >> reporter: police say around

midnight they received a report of sewing needles in five twix bars. he first saw a post on facebook about a needle in a snickers bar, he and his friends checked theirs and made the apparent discovery. >> there were four kids involved. they're not all related. two separate families. before a but they went trick or treating together. >> reporter: police tell "eyewitness news" they investigate all complaints as legitimate until proven otherwise, but the report was enough to prompt police to send out alerts early sunday morning warning neighbors. >> they just said they should check the candy again. >> reporter: by sunday afternoon another child came forward, he found a needle in in his snickers bark they do not think that 12-year-old went trick or treating with mic gel and the others. >> we were all nervous and we call up police because we didn't know what was going to happen.

then we all came to the house, everybody checked the candy. >> reporter: tonight that's had the message police are stressing to parent. of check your child's candy and maybe check it again. and while police say they don't think the two groups went trick or treating together they're looking into whether they know one another. they tell us none of the candy was inguested. if they find this is legitimate. the person faces reckless endangerment charge rahel solomon cbs3 "eyewitness news". the woodbury police department says they received a report of tainted candy in gloucester county. they found a needle or a pen in a snickers bar. merely garwood posted these photos on facebook saying she notified police and plans to bring candy in tomorrow. police are urging parents could be very cautious. a 16-year-old gunned down in philadelphia, tonight police are

trying to find his killer. shots rang out before 5:00 this evening on the 2200 block of west sedgley avenue in strawberry mansion. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson is tracking the latest from police headquarters. steve? >> reporter: 17 shots, natasha, that's how many of philadelphia police say were fired at two teenager to say riding a their bikes through had a local neighborhood. now, police say the search is on for suspects while the community is asking why. >> twisted bikes in a dark street. in it is own way a crime scene memorial marking the last ride for a 16-year-old boy murdered in a hail of gunfire. >> 17 shots is an awful lot of shots to fire. >> police say simply this two teenager boys a 15 and 16-year-old were riding bikes along west sedgley avenue shortly before about 5:00 sunday afternoon. during the ride they noticed a silver buick thought nothing of it and kept going.

few blocks later spotteded it again this time two men standing near the truck. >> i believe something what happened they tried leave the every. at that time they noticed the two males found firing a total of 17 shots. >> reporter: 16-year-old shot in the back. police hearing the gunfire headed to the scene, found the boy, rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead minutes later. >> just down the street from where that boy lay dying people here were celebrating life. >> we came out and jut saw this. shocking. >> reporter: 50 members of emmanuel open door ministry were holding service. the music drowned out the shots but not the horror of walking outside. >> my god. 17? really wanted to kill them t that is just sad. that's sad. >> reporter: as police continue their search for suspects. the community here continues their search for answers. >> these thing happen. i was now it's just crime is

anywhere, but i pray for the families. >> reporter: well, if there is any good news in this it's that despite being shot at 17 times, that 15-year-old was not shot, not injured in that shooting. he says he has no idea who would shoot at him and his friend and is cooperating with police as they work together to try to piece just what happened. reporting live from philadelphia police headquarters. i'm steve patterson, cbs3 "eyewitness news". also police in atlantic city are investigating after a body was discovered in a laundry bask this morning, officers say they found a woman's body at the atlantic palace qualms on the 1500 block of boardwalk about 7:00 a.m. no word on cause of death. police in camden are asking for the public's health in finding a teen who went missing halloween, 16-year-old john harris was reported missing last night from his home on the 2700

couple of hours. that's going to be the trend to kick off tomorrow as well. high level cloud cover that will filter out our sunshine but temperatures not too bad to awake up to middle 50's maybe just a light jacket. we're at 61 degrees by the 11:00 hour. very light wind speeds and we are going to push thing above average once again tomorrow and then talking about a streak of 70's and even mid 70's and i'll let you know when to expect that coming up in just a few. >> thank you very much. investigators are trying to figure out what caused a fire in a montgomery county apartment complex that killed a wok and forced dozens of people out of their homes. residents in plymouth township are still dealing with the aftermath tonight. >> didn't look so bad when it was dark. you see it in the daylight. >> like many of residents at the plymouth rock apartments she can't believe her eyes. more than 30 residents are evacuated halloween night when a fast moving fire tour through building earound 10:30 damaging 19 of 24 apartments.

>> everybody -- some people furniture and property is damaged. >> officials were forced to ring three alarms as firefighters rescued several residents and pets and used ladder hoses to track tell flames several feet high. fire chief lawrence says the water issue was caused by a previously damaged hydrant and no springless made the fire spread quickly if i remember alarms worked but not fast enough to save the one woman who died in the flames. >> she was a nice lady. a sorry she didn't make it. >> it could have been worse. >> i was thankful that it didn't happen last week when it was really windy and hot embers coming over, and for -- seeing the light of day means. >> we're going to be ok. we're going to be ok. >> police say they will not release the victim's name until next of kin have been notified also tonight police trying

to figure out who shot and killed a 26-year-old woman in north philly this weekend. officers responded to the 4300 block of north 17th street in nicetown late last night. they found the woman shot multiple times, she was pronounced dead at that scene. police haven't made any arrests just yet. former politician and actor fred thompson passed away. according to his family thompson died in nashville, tennessee tennis after a put battle with lymphoma according to a family statement, thompson served as a senator in tennessee from 1994 to 2003 and he also unsuccessfully ran for the republican nomination for president in 2008. fred thompson was 73. authorities meantime are looking into whether a medical condition like a seizure may have caused the driver to crash into trick or treaters in new york city last night killing three people. about 5:00 police say the 52-year-old man's car jumped curb landed several feet off the

ground in the bronx. at 10-year-old little girl was among those killed. three other people were injured. tonight, detail $ emerge on the plane crash in egypt that claimed lives of allople on board russia's top aviation official says the russian passenger plane broke part at a high altitude shortly after take-off yesterday. the search area for victims of this mid air crash has been widened now as the debris field is spread over nearly eight square miles, meantime devastated russian families are waiting for the remains of their loved ones to be returned. >> my wife where are you from? saint peters burglary. >> was she on vacation there. >> yes. she was with the children and with grandfather. the grandfather and children returned earlier and she stayed late. >> isis has claim responsibility for the crash but both russia
