♪ from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". good afternoon. we are tracking rain and lots of it. some places are in a lull right now, but don't be lulled into a falls sense of security. that nasty weather is not over yet. good afternoon i'm erika von tiehl. what a messy morning commute and it's going to be a wet evening rush, too. want to check in with justin drabick right now. some places getting a break. >> this is the best we've seen so far today. bad timing with the storm like you said morning and evening commutes are being impacted.

but at least we're starting to dry it out little bit for the meantime. so lunch hour looking little bit better in most locations inly delaware valley check out storm scan3. this is where we're seeing the instead yesterday rain across central new jersey right now. it's been new jersey all day long. that's been the story who have seen the hardest hit amounts so far but again breaks right around philadelphia. get a couple of showers that come through the afternoon but there are steadier showers again still out across western pennsylvania. that's the actual upper level portion of the storm. that needs to come through our region that will happen later on this evening into tonight. we're not done yet. we get that afternoon break but steadier showers return certainly through the evening and early nighttime hours. rainfall amounts so far, woodbine, new jersey, coming up over 1 inch and three quarters and we're not done yet. light like smell spots reaching 2-inches especially in south jersey. almost an inch an quarter in millville. voorhees .85. over half an inch in mt. laurel and .40 in philadelphia. here's what's expected this afternoon. again off and on periods of rain. it will pickup intensity into the evening hours.

additional amounts generally about another quarter of an inch up half an inch the highest amounts into south and east of the city and breezy northeast winds up around 20 miles an hour with hire gusts watch out for that evening commute slower allow extra time if you're heading out later today. 61 right now the current temperature. mid 50s to the north and the lehigh valley. as well as the suburbs in quakertown and doylestown. that's pretty much for our high temperature. maybe jumping up another degree or wolf those winds sustained right now out of the east to northeast about 15 to 20 miles per hour. forecast high up to around 62 for philadelphia. low 60s at the shore. 50s in the poconos. we'll talk about this dry weather and much better veterans day forecast coming up in a few more minutes. erika, back over to you. >> justin thank you. you can track the rain and the forecast any time by downloading the cbs philly weather app. it's available on i tunes and going bell play. comcast is resetting the passwords of roughly 200,000 customers after learning user information was being sold online. comcast says information did not

come from a breach and in it's network. data include customer e-mail addresses and passwords. institute for highway safety is tested booster seats for kids and released its findings of the year's bev bet. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch takes a look at the best seats on the market and shows us how parents can ensure their using them safely. >> reporter: we're not talking about those high back car seats here. these are back less booster seats and they are designed to safely strap a child into the back seat of a car into their seat belt and experts say there are more save booster seats on the market now than ever before. the non-profit research group the insurance institute for highway safety deems 20 of 23 booster seats new to mark this year as best bets. >> in this year's booster ratings there aren't any seats we wouldn't recommend. >> reporter: iihs tested high back and back less seats. focusing on how the seat belt fits average child in just about any vehicle. >> what we're looking for is

that the lap belt fits low across the top of the thighs. it's not riding up on the soft dummy and the shoulder belt needs to sit snug the center of the shoulder it shouldn't be falling off the shoulder or riding up on the neck or face. >> reporter: but a word to parents, do your research. there are still older non recommended booster seats for sale through many online vendo vendors. the iihs did calling on makers of six older models that are not recommended to discontinue them. but if you have one, keep it. the institute says, crash tests prove it's better to have a booster seat than none at all. >> experts say having a booster seat in your car could reduce a child's risk for injury in a car crash by up to 45%. now these are recommended for kids between ages four and eight and sometimes as old as 12. they also do not have to cost a lot of money. some costs as little as $15 to do a priceless job. in spring garden, i'm justin finch cbs3 "eyewitness news". kathleen kane is heading back to court in montgomery

county. 1:00 o'clock pre rim limb nary hearing is scheduled to determine if she goes to trial on perjury and obstruction charges. prosecutors say kane signed a secrecy oath when she took office in 2013 but then leaked secret grand jury information to embarrass a political rival and later lied about it. kane denies any wrongdoing. comedian bill cosby is hit with another lawsuit. new hampshire woman filed defamation suit against the entertainer yesterday. it alleges cosby falsely accused her of lying when she came forward last year an accused him of raping her in 1965. the lawsuit seeks unspecified damages. dozens of women have come forward in recent years to accuse cosby of sexual assaultss spanning decades. a man sitting inside a convenience store shot dead inside that crowded store. it all happened on 700 block of north 38th street in philadelphia's mantua neighborhood. police say just before 8:30 this morning, a suspect entered j and r perez grocery and shot that

22-year-old man multiple times. that customer died a short time later. the killer is still at large. detectives are asking for the public's help in locatin loa shooter check out this surveillance video here. a man pulls out handgun right here and he shoots randomly into the air then leaves. this is on the 400 block of east indiana avenue in kensington. short time later, that suspect returns and fires more shots. if you recognize this man, you're asked to call police. all across the country today, workers at mcdonald's and other businesses have walked off the job. i'll show you the scene right here this morning mcdonald's near 31st and allegheny in north philadelphia. demonstrators here are demanding a raise in minimum wage. up to $15 an hour. other workers taking part in today's protest include home care and airport employees. a majority of voters in new jersey want governor chris christie to he had his bid for the republican president thal

nomination to a new poll. 66% of voters said the governor should drop out of the race. 33% said he should stay in. when asked if campaigning had distracted christie from his duties as governor, 63% of garden state voters said yes. 33% said it's not distracting him. tonight gop presidential candidates go head to head in their fourth national debate. christie won't be on the main stage this time. his low poll numbers find him in the under card debate. correspondent craig boswell has more now from washington. >> reporter: republicans square off in another debate tonight and the verbal sparring is already heating up. >> what's going on with this election i've never seen anything like it. >> reporter: donald trump continued his attacks on dr. ben carson's insistence that he stabbed another boy when he was a teenager despite the press being unable to find any evidence the event happened. >> this is the only election in history where you better off if you stab somebody.

a suspicious bank prompted security scare at miami international airport last night. video posted on social media shows heavily armed police leading a man in that red shirt off a plane. the fbi says that passenger went through security but had items in his bag that looked suspicious. the investigation led to portions of the airport being locked down and dozens of flight delays. >> i just scene different police officers. they've been out here and they walking around with m16s assault rivals like it's kind of scary. >> they came in and told everybody to get out.

the airport was being evacuated. so we all came outside. >> the fbi says the passenger who raised suspicions was not arrested and will not face any criminal charges. u.s. and british officials say even without an official cause they believe a bomb is response al for bringing down that russian jetliner over egypt last week. this as russian egyptian investigators pour through evidence to figure out just how this happened. alan pizzi reports from egypt egyptian focus on airport staff and others who may have had access to the plane. egyptian security officers are reportedly even questioning hotel workers especially those involved in catering. the key to what happened to the plane lies in forensic evidence and the russians and egyptians have control of that. but there is enough other evidence to convince us and british officials to go with the bomb theory. >> our conclusions and the decisions we've taken have been based on review of all the information available to us. >> reporter: prompted in part

a strange cloud formation over south africa had people taking to social media and you can see why right here. many people think those clouds look like ufo's but as justin said they're as good explanation they're called len tick queue lar clouds and they form when air flowing on the earth's surface hits an obstruction like a valley or a mountain. but they do require perfect temperatures and air moisture to form and a moment ago in the commercial break justin, len tick ciliare. that's how i say that meteorology term. >> like the shape of an eye. >> mountain ranges. you don't see it too often around here. you have to go out west and hawaii an lot of turbulent. pilots beware don't fly no those clouds. >> no one wants to fly into our rain either. >> a lot of low clouds over the delaware valley right now. catching a little bit of a bre break. best we've seen it drizzle out there that's about it we'll see steadier showers returning later on this evening into tonight. but we'll take you outside right now and show i was little bit of low clouds and fog. some mist out there. can't see the tops of the sky

scrapers here in center city. but at least we have some improvement right now for the next few hours. that's the trend. if to head out now is the time to do it. grab the umbrella and rain jacket around just to be safe. storm scanstorm scan3 again shot you shower activity really breaking up. we had the steady heavy rain delaware and new jersey this morning that impacted the morning ride. this is kind of splitting up here. we have heavier band moving now to the north and east here's the back edge of the storm. this is the upper level portion of the storm system that still needs to come through later on this evening tonight. there you go. leftover clouds little bit of drizzle going on. another round of showers cecil county maryland moving into northern new castle in the next half hour or so. temperatures somewhat mild even with the clouds and the rain around. um per 50 toss low 60's from the philly area on south and east. mid 50s in allentown. winds gusting a little bit especially along the coastline with that breeze off the water near 40 miles per hour at the atlantic city airport. 30 miles an hour gusts in wildwood. so low pressure slowly moves through the mid atlantic today. temperatures hold in the low

60s. finally late tonight it moves offshore. we're back to some sunshine on wednesday. here's our next storm that comes in thursday so we get that brief break wednesday. but more showers around thursday but nothing like we had today. and then friday bringing back some cooler air. temperatures will drop into the 50s little bit more typical for the middle of november. here's tropical storm kate off the coast of florida. well off the coast and it stays out over the open waters strengthening. 70 miles an hour the track still well to the north and east away from the us mainland so this storm really doesn't affect us. roughs up the ocean a little b bit. future weather model bringing some steadier showers back in here through the evening hours. 10:00 o'clock still under the gun with wet weather. finally by two, 3:00 a.m., we start to dry thing out. here's your wednesday forecast. those clouds break up. see a little sunshine temperatures mild. jet stream still to our north. watch what happens. as we head towards friday, and the weekend. there's cold air from canada trying to spill southward so that's why we cool our temperatures back actually a few degrees below average. today, though, periods of rain

we have a sad update today about a story we first told you about last week. a star wars super fan who was given a special screening of the latest film in the saga has passed away. daniel fleetwood's wife confirmed on facebook today that her hub lost his battle with cancer. his dying wish was to see the force awakens before he passed and director jj abrams granted that wish. fleetwood was 32 years old. actress jennifer lawrence is defending her hygiene during an interview with mtv and her hunger games co-stars lawrence
