happy thanksgiving. the holiday, it is starting out tragic in the nicetown neighborhood this morning we are live on the scene of the deadly fire coming up, we will also have this. >> reporter: estimated 47 million americans, planning to travel this holiday weekend, will be seeing tighter security. i'm henna daniels in new york and i'll tell you what you can expect. a live look at the staging area for thanksgiving day parade, in just a few hours the parkway will be packed with people, already a number outside right now, we have a look at parade route and last minute preparations. good morning, happy thanksgiving i'm erika ron tiehl. cool start to the day but we are in store for a nice warm up in time to eat dinner and get out and throw the

"eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us at that scene, good morning. >> reporter: erika, good morning. fire fighters say this fire was knocked down in minutes but not in enough time to safe a life. officials did find one man dead inside. reports of the fire came in at 12:22, the department says they have got several calls from this nicetown neighborhood when fire crews pulled up to the 1900 block of

brunner street they found heavy fire and smoke on the first floor of the home, emanating from the first floor front room. crews forced their way in and got that fire under control in only 16 minutes, a second search turned up the adult male victim on the first floor, he was pronounced dead on the scene will. fire commissioner derek sawyer says that man's death could have have been prevented. >> the the key point here is you have to have working smoke alarms and home escape plan. right new we're not sure what the cause of the fire is but we do know if this person had a working smoke alarm they should have been able to get out. >> and as you can see that home is scorched on the first and second floors of the home. the we are told that man was likely home alone and that there were no working smoke alarms on the first or second floor of this home. fire marshals have been on the scene working to determine the cause of the fire, it remains under investigation at this time. this man is on the 13th person

to die in the fires. verse 30 just last year. erika, back over to you. two people were in the hospital after a car crash early this morning in olney. it happened on the north third street in west fischer avenue around 2:00 a.m. it is in the clear what caused the crash. the the conditions 2069 victims are not known right the now. so far police have not completed their investigation. an accident shut down a section of the route 422 in upper providence overnight. this was the crash as seen from the penndot traffic camera. it happened around 1:30 in the westbound lanes near the oaks exit. at least one person was extricated from that wreckage. no word on the victim's condition, all lanes are back opened. america's oldest thanksgiving day parade starts here in philadelphia in just a few hours. the lets give you a live look at center city at e staging area, along jfk boulevard where those huge balloons will be inflated. parade is in the 96th year. world cup mvp carli lloyd of

cities are beefing up security. >> reporter: security is ramped up across the the country as people head home for the thanksgiving day holiday. >> so much security, there is cops all over the place. >> reporter: passengers are taking longer lines and beefed up airport checkpoints in stride. >> security is kind of long. >> reporter: heavily armed police are also on duty a at rail stations like washington's union station where home land security secretary jay johnson took an amtrak train home. new york city officials were prepared for the the thousands who showed up to watch the balloons, come to life, ahead of the thanksgiving day parade. up to 3 million will line the streets on thursday. security will be tight here along the parade route, the the police commissioner says at least 2500 extra police officers will be on duty to keep everyone safe. >> this is the best prepared city in the country, to deal with a terror incident and most importantly to prevent

turkies can be dangerous if you do not do it right. fire fighters to tell us what we need to do to stay safe. >> when filling the pot make sure there is plenty of room for capacity of the turkey when you put turkey into the pot to not spill that oil over. so five to 6 inches below is good idea to start to keep that oil level down. the once it is heated up and ready to put turkey in, turn off the flame. if you get too much oil that oil will then burn on you. >> one of the most important things, make sure your turkey is completely that you had, and dry, before you fry it. frozen turkey will cause an explosion, take the lid right off. fry your turkey in an outdoor space and keep kids, animals away from the friar. if you do have a fire, don't put water on it, to try to put

is shaping up to be a beautiful thanksgiving day. katie has your holiday forecast. we have gone up 2 degrees since yesterday. >> we are continuing that nice warming trend, nice warm here at the surface courtesy of the return flow around high pressure. in other word nice warm air sent our way from the the south and that will keep things really comfortable here today. for standard ovulate november notoo shabby. let look at what this month has had up its sleeve. the obvious trend has been above average, right? only blocks that stand out here as cooler then average were 14th, saturday a couple weeks ago and last two days, or i should say, monday and tuesday of this week where we were just a smidge below average. six below the normal isn't too bad, so we're really trending well above the normal so far and we have got a shot of the top ten. we are expecting a cool down though by the month's end which will be discussed but for now it is all good here on stormn
