planned parenthood clinic in colorado. the gunman finally surrenders after an hour long standoff. tonight, we know at least three people lost their lives including a police officer. several other officers and civilians were injured in the attack. good evening, everyone, i'm ukee washington. >> hi, everyone, i'm jessica dean. authorities in colorado springs are still trying to figure out a motive or whether the shooter had and any connection to planned parenthood. >> "eyewitness news" reporter greg argos is closely following the developments from the cbs3 satellite center. greg. >> this evening police in colorado springs confirming two civilians and one police officer died in the shooting at the planned parenthood clinic there. minutes ago we've learned the officer's name he is 44-year-old garrett swayze is six year veteran of the university of colorado at colorado springs police department. the first calls came in around midday. a man with what witnesses say is a long gun entered a colorado springs planned parenthood and opened fire. >> all i've heard the whole time

i've been here is gunshots. >> reporter: after a five-off standoff with the gunman this surprising a announcement from police. >> we did get officers inside of the building at the planned parenthood and the officers were able to shout to the suspect and make communication with him and at that point, they were able to get him to surrender. >> reporter: tonight officials in colorado springs say three people have died. two civilians and a responding officer with the university of colorado at colorado springs police department. >> while this was a terrible, terrible tragedy, it could have been much worse but fort actions of the first responders particularly the police officers involved. >> reporter: and the suspect who surrendered to police may have left dangerous items. possibly explosive devices behind. >> we know that the suspect brought several items with him, and some of those are inside the panned parenthood building some of those are out front of it. >> reporter: they're tasked with carefully combing through the building. a massiverime scene that could

now the fortunate thing is this. we won't be seeing ice or snow but rain is possibility as we head into the second half of the holiday weekend. meteorologist lauren casey tracking when we might see the wet weather plus lauren a drop in temperatures. >> that's correct. we've had a ton of sunshine and that unseasonal warmth to kick off our thanksgiving holiday but things are starting to change in advance of a cold front that is continuing to traverse eastbound the cloud deck starting to increase across the delaware valley especially over the last couple of hours and even a few returns right now over the poconos but a lot of that not yet hitting the surface might be seeing a few drip drops over the last hour in scranton. temperatures right now, though, still very mild after some record and near record warmth across parts of the area today. 54 degrees is your current temperature in philadelphia. we're at 53 down the shore. and very mild in the poconos at this late hour, 53 right now. as we head into the next couple of days, we are going to see a cool down but more 60s in store for tomorrow. another unseasonably warm day but that cold front moves through late day. bringing our temperatures down

by sunday afternoon we'll talk about what high temperatures to expect for the last dave our holiday weekend and we do have several rain chances and they do start tomorrow. we'll talk about the timing of that rain coming up in just a couple of minutes. lauren, see you in a little bit thank you. it has been a long and busy dave shopping in our region for black friday. crowds have been piling into area malls of outlets all day for the biggest shopping day of the year. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt reports from cherry hill. >> reporter: black friday 2015 is in the books. and shoppers tell "eyewitness news" it's definitely one to remember. >> well, this was the first time i actually had a chance to ever do it because i always worked on black friday, so i said, well a i'm going to go out and today see what all the hoopla was about. >> reporter: tense of thousands poured in and out of cherry hill mall. thanksgiving night and all day friday starting in the morning at 6:00. >> we've gotten really good deals today. it's been fun. >> reporter: some shoppers are calling the hours this year a little bit more old-fashioned. why? last year cherry hill and other local malls stayed open for more than 24 hours.

any other the case this year. >> i don't think they should be open on thanksgiving day. but i mean black friday is always like the opening of all the shopping for christmas and stuff, hanukkah. it's fun. >> reporter: shoppers told "eyewitness news" clothing stores had the best deals. and the crowd packed. >> we've been coming for three years now. it's about the same crowd. i feel like the later -- the later in the day you come the more crowded it is. >> according to national retail federation survey, a little less than 136 million people will shop in stores and online for the four-day weekend. a big number that shoppers are not surprised to hear. there's some deals in some stores and not so many in others and you just have to look for them. in cherry hill, i'm david spunt, cbs3 "eyewitness news". and a lot of shoppers chose to stay home and buy online. sales tracker adobe estimates people spent a record $1.7 billion online thursday. that's up 25% from last year. in fact by 11am yesterday, americans had already spent

>> outrage black and white together. we're saying we want a new police chief and infrastructure now. we want a safe -- we can depend upon now. >> throughout course of the today's protests some stores were forced to close temporarily. there have been a few arrests. to for traffic related offenses. one more a battery related offense. charred wreckage all that remained at the site of a fiery crash on the atlantic city expressway. a viewer sent us this picture right after the crash happen this morning at the egg harbor toll plaza. you can see the car and toll area consumed by flames. the driver of that car was killed. his identified as 39-year-old joseph crawford of egg harbor city. there were no other injuries. the cause of that crash has yet to be determine. two people from philadelphia are dead after a pontoon boat carrying seven people capsized off the coast of new jersey. the fatal accident happened around 1:30 this afternoon in the manasquan inlet monmouth county. the dead are identified as alex oh so much kin and grow gory

curb they are. five surviving passengers did not suffer live threatening injuries. viewer zach set a photo of the rescue scene. witnesses saw the rescue efforts from shore. >> we saw something flat in the water which looked like some kind of wooden flat form. turn out it was the underside of a pontoon boat. >> the police tell us large swell tipped the boat over. zenning the seven passengers into the water. tonight police in burlington county are searching for the suspect they say shot and killed a store clerk on thanksgiving eve. 32-year-old matthew, was shot at the quick and go convenience store on the 100 block of dr. martin luther king drive in willingboro. police say he and the gunman walk out of the store together before that shooting. officers later found him in the street. >> he was a good guy, and he was a hard-working guy. always want to work overtime to support his family back home and he has one daughter in his country ghana.

arizona man lucky to be alive after a thanksgiving rock climbing trip goes wrong. 21-year-old man decided to go rock climbing in phoenix without the proper safety gear. he ended up calling 911 shortly after 9:00 o'clock thanksgiving morning when he got stuck. rescuers climbed above his perch then repelled down to him. fortunately, no one was hurt. pope francis arrived in uganda to a joyful ceremony on friday. this is the second leg of the pontiff's africa trip. while there he's paying respects to 19th century christian martyrs burned alive rather than renowned their faith. as many as 2 million people are expected to attend a mass in their honor. montgomery county tree farm delivered the official white house christmas tree today. first lady michelle obama received the tree as it arrived this morning. bustard's farms of lansdale cultivated the 18 food frazier fir planted in 2001. the two owners jay and glenn bustard you can see them there with the first lady were also on

temperature. philadelphia we topped at 66. allentown broke a record high temperature. we tied one in reading and got 1 degree shy of a record high temperature in mount pocono with a high of 59 degrees for the end of november. and temperatures still up 50's many of our reporting sites across the area. 55 in reading. 54 degrees currently in philadelphia. and 53 in ac and overnight tonight, temperatures not too chilly. we'll be running more than 10 degrees above or average low of 49. partly cloudy to mostly cloudy conditions with some patchy areas of fog and then tomorrow, sunshine going to be much more sparse especially during the afternoon hours becoming mostly cloudy with some showers developing but high temperatures still well up there. 63 degrees for our saturday. if you're hitting the roads on this holiday weekend tonight looking good. dry roadways, watching out for some patchy fog that could reduce visibilities in localized areas. but for tomorrow, morning time going to be the best time to hit the roadways with showers late day and sunday kind of the

reverse. better time to be on the roadways later in the afternoon and evening. with that chance of a few morning showers rolling through and storm scan3 showing us mainly quiet conditions across the eastern seaboard right now. but then we do have that far reaching cold front continuing to move across portions of the country. ice being brought to the parts of the central plains and also flooding rains into portions of the mid south. this cold front is going to be impacting us in the delaware valley, but we're not going to see the same oomph from the system as we head into the day tomorrow. cold front approaching during the morning hours, best chance of rain tomorrow morning will be north and west of the city. then a better chance of rain across philadelphia and southern new jersey parts of delaware as we head into late day. then overnight, we are going to see resurgence of some moisture looks like the best chance of shower activity will be philadelphia and points southward for sunday morning. then high pressure returns and takes over control as we head late day into sunday. so eventually dry our sunday afternoon and clear out sunday night.

according to multiple reports boston police are now investigating the fight involv involving jahlil okafor outside a boston nightclub early thursday morning. just before tonight's tip off against the rockets, multiple reports say okafor had been involved in an incident outside a philadelphia nightclub in october in which a heckler aimed a gun at okafor's head. reports say the investigation is continuing with this incident as well. the sixers center did not react specifically to that report, but did address the altercation in boston saying "i'm ashamed of what i did and that's not i who i am. i have great support system that will continue to support me. the entire sixers organization

the philadelphia zoo's newest babies now have names be fitting their philly heritage. the public chose the names betsy and benjamin for these baby red panda cubs much zoo officials confirm their homage to betsy ross and benjamin franklin. red pandas are considered vulnerable in the wild. so betsy and benjamin are crucial in the effort to conserve the species. new england patriots quarterback tom ady used to making turkeys out of opposing defenders on sunday. >> but yesterday it was brady who was looking like the bird. the future hall of famer posted this video on facebook of his kids playing in the leaves and then all of a sudden he pops up dressed like that. >> look at the little one. >> that's tom brady my friends. his daughter was so spooked she
