11:39 pm
people are going to be upset. the nfl you're never going to have 53 guys support the coach. obviously everyone has the opinion about chip. overall i don't think they're purposely not playing hard, they're not out there trying to send a message. they like chip. i don't think he lost the locker room. >> you mentioned the miami game. do you think that's the game that kind of killed the spirit of this team a little bit? is that the game. >> it's like chip said after the cowboys, that was probably the happiest i've seen the players in that overtime win. chip said it doesn't mean anything if you don't win next week. that dauphin game was bad. you come up like that. i believe it was 16 to three. losing in that fashion. that kind of -- shakes the confidence then you come out against tampa. 11:40 pm
90 to 30 the last two weeks, almost scarier than if -- i wish they weren't trying. >> the thing is let's say if he did lose the locker room that's the players problem. this is chip's team, his franchise. you go to novacare every inch of that plays has chip's fingerprints all over it. if players don't sporty him they won't be here. >> that's what i was going to ask you they got big money contracts guys like demark omurray. he's locked in. >> the good news is with the quarterback, which is important, he's a free agent. they mean reassess that at the end. demarco is a is tricky situation. he's going to cost 8 million against the cap next year if they keep him 13 if they cut him. chip is going to have the to decide doesn't seem really happy. >> pretty ms. ribble. >> i'm sure he loves chip because he gave him that ridiculous contract but in terms of how happy in the locker room i'm not so sure.

11:42 pm
chip only been coach, in the nfl two years, three years. ed man was the first guy on it job, relatively young, very well respected, just a lot of inexperience. i don't think you take the power from chip. you're chip you say let's bring in a more experienced guy. >> let's go on the field and not so much behind the scenes. >> not so pretty there. >> the defense, really began so well for them. then starting with that miami game second half, all crumbles and we know 90 points in the last two games. can it be saved at this point? billy davis says he thinks he can save it. i mean, i talked to him in detroit. what makes you confident you're the guytown this around? just like you said the first six, seven, eight weeks weren't that bad. you can make the argument they out played the offense. these coaches have performed good to see them before. it's just a bad stretch. thing is in the laper pitcher
11:43 pm
the defense has been an issue. that's where you would be concerned whether he will be able to turn it around. >> at any time, even when they were playing well, this defense even when the stat said they were good. there was never anything like really imposing about them to me. i never -- they won't get pressure on it quarterback and they won't. >> the one thing they did well creating turn overs. i think that masked a lot of those problem, getting in the red zone against them. they had thigh turn overs demi company ryans had one. that hasn't happened over past three days, i don't think they have a turn over maybe one at most. that's been a big issue for them. >> talk about the offense because this, chip kelly thing like -- what's -- what is the deal? >> hopefully this isn't his thing. it's not going so well. >> everyone is kind of caught on. >> is. >> he point to execution, and i think obviously he holds blame for that. he's had a tough offense past

few seasons. this year in terms of yards. some of that is i believe a little fake because they run so many plays. they play so fast. their total unmarks are higher. >> that's a fair pot. they need quarterback whose were run. >> that's where i was going. >> they clearly need a quarterback who can run. it's been since he got here. i don't know why he keeps saying they won't. >> i a hundred percent agree with you. >> i think everyone does. >> this year, i don't think chip knows how to -- chip knows how to coastal he's a smart guy, he's going to be successful in the nfl. they just don't have a good quarterback. sam bradford was not successful before he got here. if i told you sam bradford was on another team and they were four and seven you wouldn't be surprised. that's the issue, they need better personnel. chip brought him in. >> is chip good at evaluating these players. >> that's to be determined. >> you look at the quarterbacks he brought in. matt barkley, mark sanchez, sam bradford. he internisted michael vick, brought him back. he has a great history of bringing them in. i agree with spike. they need a running quarterback.
11:45 pm
this offense there could be guys out there. i'll say it. >> i would love to see him, doesn't it worry you. his team mates were leaking to the press that they wanted him set? if your team mates are saying you shouldn't play quarterback it worry police, there's lot of stuff about him that he's not the greatest, he's not a studyier, he's not a great locker room guy. >> and a not a great 34 either. which is pretty important to be a quarterback. >> i don't know how much chip values culture, i don't know how much he'll care about that. >> patriots game is coming up next. >> that's going to be easy. >> that's going to be fun. >> that comes in a terrible point. it's never good to go to fox borrow, but they need a turned around game. that's basically not automatic loss they're going to drop to four and eight. then it's going to make the game after that more important. >> we're going to try to end this segment on a positive note. let's talk about temple and what they've accomplished this season
11:46 pm
and matt rhule there are rumors circulating on the team right now. >> i'm temple made. to me the biggest thing they've mrishgd. i remember when i was in college, no one cared about the football program. now you go out and i talk to my temple friends, they're excited. they follow what's going on. it would be a shame if matt rhule left. we'll see if they will be willing to keep him. talk about building a stadium on campus, they have touch decisions to make about that. >> are you excited about temple. >> my and my uncle went to temple. the key for them is that they can't allow this to be -- whether matt rhule stays or goes, they have to show the commitment to the program continue this, this can't be a one season thing you know? and holding on to matt rhule seems difficult but regardless of what happens, they have to make it a priority. >> you see the ranks come back and they're by michigan and florida. >> that's insane. so nice to have right now. what we have going on.

we're going to be back in just a moment. it's been a heck of a week for jahlil okafor, the craziness of the past few days, also go around the league as the redskins surprise everyone and andy reid rips off another win. first go to the break with temple university. want to do something special this holiday season? support i have a dream foundation. help a child achieve the dream of a higher education. cbs cares.

. this video from tmz set off a fire storm showing jahlil fork shoving and punching man outside of a boston night club. this followed the sixers loss to the celtics last week shortly after that, we have more reports surfaceing alleging that okafor had a gun pulled on him outside of a philadelphia night club. there's other reports that say he was stopped for speeding on the ben franklin bridge going 108 miles per hour. he spoke to reporters friday calling the boston incident dumb and embarrassing and said he was frustrated. >> okafor took to twitter he wrote, i hold myself to a higher standard than anyone else ever could and i'm not proud of some of my decisions over the last few months. i own my choices both personally and annoy publically. at this point i'm cooperating and respecting the process i have to go through. he continued: going forward i don't want to be a distraction
11:51 pm
for my team and am grateful for the sporty and guidance those close to me are giving. i'm 100 percent focused on my responsibility to the league. my team mates and my fans. >> who wrote that? >> eloquently. >> and we're back with eliot shorr-parks and spike eskin from sports radio 94 wip. pretty much spike i'm going to let you have the floor with the october four or deal. >> first of all have you ever dealt with boston fans. >> are you saying you want to punch. >> i'm not saying i wouldn't want to punch him. it's funny because everybody wants to find one thing to say about what happened and feels like it's a mix of all of them. you're 19 -- on, the reasonable side you're 19 years old, you have more money than you've ever had. and team sort of enable this sort of thing. most of these thing get covered up. there's a lot of stuff we never hear about.
11:52 pm
all of a sudden you don't -- it's hard to understand the responsibility both publically and to your team. if you never been in that sort of situation. you're -- you can get away with whatever, and all of a sudden people are taunting you and then, you know, and everybody wants a piece. you know, i think the realistic part of me says it's possible that he is a kid, 19. i remember what i was like at 19. it doesn't absolve him of responsibility but i don't think these things mean that, a point of no return or he's a bad guy. just means. >> i would also say that, i think sometimes little too much is made about the impact of losing has on the players, they're happy to be in the nba, they might be be in the league outside the sixers. a guy like okafor that went to duke, won highs entire life. you do see some of those frustrations coming out. he probably lost more games this
11:53 pm
year than he has his entire career. >> i don't know if that's i agree with this but there are people think if they had older guys around them this sort of thing may not happen. are you buying that. >> no. i think, better nba players are not baby sitters, not chaperones, and last year bob more taywho was supposed to be his mentor and ballooned up to 300 pounds, drank insure shirley temples. you can't look at every veteran as mentor type guy. veterans are in as much trouble as okafor. >> you have kevin garnet, and andre miller. you expect every team that has a ruth full roster to have these sort of veterans around them and it's not always going to be that way. >> there's finite number of those guys helpful in this situation. >> is it odd to you all this
11:54 pm
stuff is coming out boom all at once. >> curious. i don't think it's impossible that -- i don't know this. i don't think it's impossible in -- i remember when it came out peter was 300 pounds i have reason to believe that the team is responsible for making that public so it would sort of get him back on the right track. i think maybe somebody saw this boston incident as a, the straw that may have broke the cam he will's back and they're looking for any way to sort of get this guy to shape up. >> once one thing comes out everyone start looking. jahlil is going to have the to deal with from here on out, he says he punched this guy because he was taunting him. every road game know he's going to get under his skin. hopefully he did learn his lesson. >> how do you get up to 108? >> i don't know. on the been? that's an accomplishment. there's traffic on the been. >> i think bigger overall
11:55 pm
question right now is what does this mean for the team going forward when this guy is kind of the base of your team basically. >> well, i think it means that this is a time that they have to pull the -- this time more than anything is a time where the team and the coaches have to be a support system for each other. i think, you know, this is the first time in the last three years, this and a little bit of eats too much stuff the first time we heard bad things throughout the whole rebuild, about, you know, sort of things in the locker room that weren't quite perfect and i think it's because they have a good support system in there. i'm hoping that's the end of this. >> you're in the trust of the process thing. i get that. i am to an extent as well. when things like this happen, it's when the other side sort of gangs up and says, with them, this is part of the problem. so do we have to look at sam hinkie and say this is his issue too. >> sure, yes. but i think to eliot's point earlier, they lost 17 games to open the season last year. nobody beat up any fans.
11:56 pm
nobody drove 100 miles an hour. can't be an excuse for that, you know? so i think it's part of it. i think sam hinkie has to be responsible just because he's not talking about it i don't think means he's not address theing it. >> the other thing if you're going to build with these top picks, if you're obviously try to get these, you have to get them right. whenever anything looks like it's going wrong people are going to pound, jahlil has this; correct, jahlil still having a good year statistically on the court he's been a good player, when you invest so much, every little small thing that goes wrong is going to get magnified. >> but going into tonight they've lost 27 games in a row getting back to last season. this could be the worse season ever. >> it's just. >> mind blowing? i think the process -- he says it actually, it doesn't matter. it's ball -- and brett brown sitter before. the goal is to make these guys
11:57 pm
better. not to win games. when the goal is to win games, they will, judged on that. right now, you want them to win's you want them to feel good about themselves. it's not the goal. >> my counter to that would be, i agree. you're trying to develop, to who had they really developed to this point? >> i have the same question. >> i think it's fair to say that newer lend noel, robert could haveing ton, all of a sudden is probably a legitimate starter on a good team i think you could say, tj mcconnell is an obvious, you know, diamond in a rough. thompson was undrafted and now 40 percent three point shooter in the nba, you know, and but i'm there are instances you can certainly point out. >> trust the process. eliot, spike thanks so much for being here.
