3:30 this afternoon. victim was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. it is unclear a at this point what sparked this shooting, and no arrests have been made. a philadelphia police officer is involved in the violent car crash, and as he laid injured in his cruiser a heroic group of bystanders comes to his rescue. the it all played out at intersection of the jasper and allegheny avenues in the cities kensington section. "eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter spoke with some of those who answered the call. >> reporter: sound of the police car slamming into this pole, jolted neighbors near jasper and allegheny. >> i have never seen anything like it, and car parts, it was just flying. >> reporter: what the video shows next, even more dramatic, those same neighbors racing to rescue the dazed, bleeding officer, still behind a wheel of this twisted car. >> we came out of the car because he said help, help, put me down, put me down and make sure nobody will get hurt but he made the call to 911.

>> reporter: new year, new look for parts of the pennsylvania turnpike. starting early january, drivers will see two new tolling points and in place of others, one here just a across the the delaware river. >> so coming across the bridge a customer will pay that businessly as they do with e-z pass or they will be now toll cash will not be accepted coming across the bridge. >> reporter: the camera snaps a picture of your license plate and drivers receive their bill in the mail. officials say this type of tolling is a first for pennsylvania. one way will be $5 for e-z pass customers, $6.75 for non-e-z pass drivers. meantime, 5 miles west, neshaminy falls main line toll plaza will also open up in january. here e-z pass and cash are accepted. turnpike officials say money from the cashless tolling point will help pay for a link from the turnpike to i-95, that is scheduled to open in 2018. a project that they say realize is a long time coming.

now at 6:00 o'clock why did they do it? we now know the identities of the shooters in the san bernardino massacre. what we do not know is why they fired more than 70 round, killing 14 people. cbs news has just learned that syed rizwan farouk had been in contact with people with suspect links to terrorism both in the united states and overseas and he may have been radicalized. good evening, i'm ukee washington. i'm jessica dean. here's what we know right the now. the the fbi says it is too early to determine if it was a terrorist act, farouk and his wife return to the u.s. from her native pakistan 17 months ago. a search of their getaway suv and home turned up thousands of round of ammunition, pipe bombs and bomb making materials. fourteen people are confirmed dead, 21 are injured, and we have learned that a man who once lived in our area was among those killed, and we are learning more about that

victim tonight. he still has family in our area "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco is live in delaware count which that part of the story, diana. >> reporter: we just spoke to the family of 59 year-old next ballsinas they are in shock and disbelief. they only found out this morning that he was one of the victims. they said they watched this all unfold on tv yesterday with no idea, just how close it would hit home. the tonight two sons are grieving the loss of their father. the five two-year old works for the health department in san bernardino, county his ex-wife, 26 and 24 year-old sons lived here in linwood. he has been estrange from them for a number of years until recently he had just reconnected with his older son. in 2001, nick moved to the l.a. area to take a job as a county health inspector but it wasn't until this morning his ex-wife and two boys learned that he was one of yesterday's 14 victims. here's what they had to say. >> people don'tea
