victim tonight. he still has family in our area "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco is live in delaware count which that part of the story, diana. >> reporter: we just spoke to the family of 59 year-old next ballsinas they are in shock and disbelief. they only found out this morning that he was one of the victims. they said they watched this all unfold on tv yesterday with no idea, just how close it would hit home. the tonight two sons are grieving the loss of their father. the five two-year old works for the health department in san bernardino, county his ex-wife, 26 and 24 year-old sons lived here in linwood. he has been estrange from them for a number of years until recently he had just reconnected with his older son. in 2001, nick moved to the l.a. area to take a job as a county health inspector but it wasn't until this morning his ex-wife and two boys learned that he was one of yesterday's 14 victims. here's what they had to say. >> people don't realize when you go to bed at night that

your world can be changed when you wake up the next day. i haven't talk to nick in years but we shared two beautiful boys together and there is a part of me who will always love him but like i said i'm trying to respect the wishes on have his wife now and i don't know what they are but i'm minding my boys hearts go out to his wife jennifer and his community out there. >> reporter: family has asked for their private thecy tonight, and time to grief. they also want to respect wishes of nick's family over on the west coast. he leaves behind a a wife there. he was remarried. we are live in linwood, delaware county tonight, i'm diana rocco for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> diana, thank you. what should you do if you find yourself in a active shooter situation. a local security expert offers three survival tactics: first, runaway from the threat but if you have no way to escape, next find a safe place to hide, that will conceal you from the attacker or gunfire.

leaps into action after a philadelphia police officers injured in the car accident today. surveillance video obtained by "eyewitness news" shows the moment after the officer's cruiser collides with a mercedes benz at the intersection of jasper and allegheny, in kensington. bystanders became rescuers as they surrounded the car and helped the injured officer to safety. >> we took him out of the car, he said help, help, put me down. i made sure that he was okay. made calls to 191. >> officer said he made a illegal turn and was he still there. he didn't go anywhere. we help. we told him to stay still. we called 911. it was a beautiful thing. >> that it was. philadelphia police spokesperson says the the officer was responding to an office's cyst call and that had his lights and sirens on. he said the other driver made ab illegal u turn. well, after several miserable days, weather-wise it was a terrific thursday around the area meteorologist kate bilo is live in rittenhouse square where there is a festive feeling tonight,
