latest, walt. >> reporter: police say kathy wilson who lived in the home behind me here was killed by one people that she knew and trusted and employed in her home, one was james severe, did he odd jobs and jane johnson who cleaned the whom but in an instant those one trusted employees, police say, turned into violent killers, and now, they have been arrested. remembering the smiling woman and her favorite sunglasses, neighbors could not believe that kathy wilson was gone, beaten to death, inside of the fishtown home where she had lived for decade. >> wonderful lady to get along with but i didn't know she was killed, until just now. she was my friend. >> reporter: police say 54 year-old wilson, last seen on friday, had been murdered, by two people, that sources say, that she apparently knew and allowed into her home. her body was found around 9:30 . >> i'm just really in complete

shock because she knew everybody in the neighborhood, and i don't understand this. just crazy. everybody that happened to her. >> reporter: police sources say shortly after the crime was discovered a man and a woman were brought in for questioning and murder charges are pend ago begins both. the suspects, police say, leaving gas jets on the stove, opened in hopes of causing an explosion and fire, that would cover up the crime but that also could have devastated other homes on the block. >> as a result of some great police work by the officers of the 26th police district and homicide detectives, james sever a 50 year-old male and jane johnson a 47 year-old female both have have been arrested and charged with murder, robbery, and related offences. >> reporter: as police brought the away a vehicle to search it for possible clues police sources say one of the two suspects being questioned has already confessed to the

killing. as you heard captain clark say the motive clearly in his view was robbery, a large amount of money was taken from the victim's home. finally police say that johnson tried to throw investigators off the track running to a police station this morning, and claiming that that she was the killer. both were arrested. now, both, have been charged. live from fishtown i'm walt hunter, for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> walt, thanks very much. the fbi announced the assailant's responsible for shooting in san bernardino participated in target practice prior to the massacre of 14 people. the agency says that syed rizwan farook and tashfeen malik had been radicalized for some time. it was also revealed employees of the county health department where the the shooting occurred underwent active shooter training just last year in the same conference room where the suspects opened fire. and in philadelphia this morning someone threw a severed pigs head on to the sidewalk outside of a islamic

center. surveillance camera captured a red pickup truck driving pass the the academy, on german avenue. that building is home to a school, mosque and inter faith community center. >> the intense of that purpose of that person that did that was obviously a hate crime. it was an attempt to deface a religious institution. a pigs head doesn't do much, i mean physically, i mean could the next thing be a pipe bomb. >> reporter: that incident is under investigation by both local and felt law enforcement agencies. two northeast philadelphia high school students are arrested, after allegedly attacking a teacher this morning. officers say that the male, ninth and tenth grade a assaulted the teacher at george washington high school after that teacher confiscated a cell phone. teacher was hospitalized a a precaution. the students were suspended pending an investigation. marvelous monday to start the workweek and our mild temperatures are sticking around. meteorologist kate bilo is on the sky deck with more on this, kate. >> that is right, guess contact we have another warm up to tell but even though we

customers were shopping for christmas trees. "eyewitness news", new jersey reporter, cleve bryan is live in mount laurel now with the details, cleve. >> reporter: customers heard the boom as well as some of the staff here at the clover garden center helping out, those people getting their christmas trees, woman veered off the road went in the pole here and knocked down the wires. now employees, vincent robinson said he knows it was not safe to go out to the woman in the car but he doesn't regret doing it. >> i heard a big explosion, boom, boom. >> reporter: vincent says he was as shocked as anyone to see a driver trapped in this car cased in live wires and down transformer. the loud buzz of high voltage electricity warned that approaching the vehicle could be suicide, yet seeing flames engulf the front of the car, he said the unconscious woman at the the wheel didn't have much time. >> something told me to go. i said i will not see a lady die in front of me. everybody was standing around. i just took off to the car.

>> reporter: weaving through the sparks he got to the woman, ripped off her seat belt and pulled her across the street just moments before much bigger flames, and a series of explosions. garden center owner bobby brandmark took this video while directing traffic. >> here comes the ambulance. >> reporter: he is amazing by his long time brown brownson. what did you think he ran out on the road, with the wires. >> knowing vincent, he is crazy but he did a hell of a job. he is the hero here. >> reporter: police won't identify the driver but said she went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. brownson said he would like to see her just to make sure she's okay, no thank you necessary. >> i don't really want to talk about it, i did what i had to do, that is all. >> reporter: mount laurel police say the accident is still under investigation but driver will not be charged. reporting live from mount laurel i'm cleve bryan, for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". thanks, very much. the pennsylvania state trooper who was shot on the vine street expressway in novice making progress in his

recovery. today doctors at hahnemann hospital removed a bullet from patrick casey's shoulder. he returned home after that procedure. casey was shot during a chaotic car chase that led to the arrest of 17 year-old giovanni coto. still to come on "eyewitness news" tonight they save lives in the face of tragedy today local lawmakers are trying to return the favor, how they want to help first responders of the 9/11 attack. it is a special time of the year for so many children sitting on sanity's lap but it is not always so easy for children with autism, stephanie stahl shows us how local moms are putting them at ease this holiday season, kate. clouds are in place but they will clear overnight. we will watch temperatures drop just briefly but then, temperatures will rise again, even higher then we have seen so far this december, i'll tell but a winter warm upcoming up. all right. sixthes taking on the spurs tonight at the center but that is in the the big news there was a big announcement earlier

state officials ape fire fighters came together today to call honorary knew health benefits for 9/11 responders. >> "eyewitness news" at garden of reflection 9/11 memorial where pennsylvania congressman mike fitzpatrick called on congressional leaders to reauthorize the bill that benefits the first responders who were injured from toxins at ground zero. fitzpatrick says this program expired in september and soon all of the money will run out if congress does not act quickly. >> for thousands of those first responders 14 years later the impact of 9/11 is still felt. the burden is still carried a as they suffer from illnesses and medical complications from cancer, to respiratory disease, caused by ground zero toxins. >> eighteen bucks county residents were killed in the september 11th terror attacks. hundreds of other residents responded or volunteered at ground zero, that day. welshing sights and sound of the holiday season can be

with the situation. >> reporter: which is why these pictures showing a mall sanity in south carolina interacting with a child on the floor with autism, went viral. >> very touching and endearing because it gave that child and family to experience something that we take for granted. >> reporter: it why is places like kenney center for autism education and support has special sensory santa meetings. >> because we key that you are hesitant, may be shy, and then by the end maybe they are playing football with santa claus or they are playing their favorite game on ipad with santa. >> reporter: event like this autism families get 20 minutes to be with santa away from loud noises and flashing lights. patrice kennedy is still waiting with her son calvin to see santa. >> thinks first time that he has been able to actually go and see santa i wanted him to have a chance to take part in kind of what is a christmas tradition. >> reporter: when it is finally his turn you can see a

>> i'll tell you more about that later. >> we have no hawks to talk about in your forecast. in fact, yesterday morning was first time that the temperature dropped to freezing at the philadelphia international airport. the is there only three years on record in the city that it has taken until december, for the temperature to hit freezing. usually we hit it well into november. sometimes even october. but, not this year. it has been mild. it will stay that way. lets take a look outside and show you time lapse from earlier, after a bright blue sky to start the day, the the cloud rolled in. this starts at 3:00 p.m. our camera at palmyra cove nature park and runs until 5:00. we will show you a nice sunset, cloud came inust in time to give us a beautiful sunset. the sky, believely on fire there, and even nice as we head through the evening hours, you can see that barge on the the water and sky line illuminated in the background. 49 degrees in palmyra. keep in mind normal high for this time of the year for this date is 48 degrees. temperatures well above average as we head into the middle of december. storm scan three shows clouds that over took area this

afternoon, bright start to the day, cloud rolled in and now we can see the gray, generally speaking they extend from lancaster on toward jersey shore but you can see rain trying to creep into extreme southern delaware this system has been impacting portions of the north carolina and virginia today. you can see heavy rain here along portions of area of hampton road, virginia, norfolk and coastal maryland, ocean city maryland seeing a soaking right now. this is going to brush the coast of delaware, maybe a shower down the shore within the the next couple of hours, and then it is out of here this system misses vast majority of our area tomorrow it is out to sea, gusty"> wind, and then a gusty breeze for shore points as well but in the city, nice day, high right around 50 degrees. we may fall short in the 40's but it will be close to average. same story wednesday lower 50's with the mix of sun and cloud. you can see wind is negligible here on wednesday. then system passes by to the north. thursday will start off with more cloud cover.

sun will come out in the afternoon and highs climb in the mid 50's. we have serious december warmth bar it weekend. that is what happens tomorrow into wednesday. we will get a cool bubble as jet stream dips south. by thursday that air mass starts to moderate. by friday we will start to see jet stream lift to the north. by the weekend all this warm air from the south really invade. saturday into sun day. we are talking about temperatures 15 as high as 20 degrees a have above average. we will take you through winter weather. easier to bear, as we have have been dealing with the a mild december. six days until average high is just 45 degrees. average high for today's date, 48. we got to 56 for a high. fifteen days until the official start of winter. only 18 days until christmas. hopefully your shopping is underway. celebrating hanukkah hopefully you have everything pack up because yesterday began hanukkah at sundown, 24 days until we bring in 2016 and as far as i can tell in the long range forecast i don't see any

prolonged cold right through at least christmas and maybe through the end of the month. it looks like a mild pattern will continue. overnight cloud give way to clearing skies, patchy fog will develop in spot overnight. be safe tomorrow morning. thirty-six your overnight low. for your tuesday mostly sunny, cooler, bottom out or top out just shy of the 50-degree mark. this is still at or above average for the time of the year. eyewitness weather seven day forecast warms up every day. fifty-one on wednesday. thursday starts with cloud maybe afternoon sun, high of 55. friday we're at 59. saturday, 62 degrees, sunny and warm saturday is a beautiful day and sunday for eagles game 63 degrees. is there a chance we will go higher then. that i wouldn't be shocked to see 65, 66, and that is well a have above average for this time of the year. get ready for nice december weekend. unless your favorite is snow and cold and in which case, you are out of luck. >> thanks, kate.
