this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". fall-out continues from donald trump's controversial comments. the billionaire has canceled trip overseas. but a new cbs news poll shows he's still the top dog in the race. good afternoon, i'm erika von tiehl. the republican presidential candidate is not backing down despite all of the criticism he received for his proposal to keep muslims from entering the us. but, as weijia weijia jiang rep, not everyone agrees.

>> reporter: despite receiving days of global criticism, donald trump's call for ban on muslims entering america doesn't appear to be hurting him. the latest cbs news new york times pole shows trump at 35%. his highest level of support yet, in our pole. the survey was taken before his proposal to ban muslims from entering the us. trump told fox news this morning he's not surprised. >> a lot of people agree with me. didn't certainly do it for pole numbers. >> pension foray tension, has made it hard for the rest of the gop field to break through. >> i'm not going to hyperventilate about polls. i'm not going to do what the media has fallen into, major attack on us soil a week ago yesterday. now all the talk, including the newscasts, are dominated by this plan that's never going to happen. >> while nearly every republican candidate says they disagree with trump on his plan, none of them have said they won't support him if he wins the gop nomination. but, one says, he's close.

>> i hope he changes his rhetoric. i hope he becomes unify err. but if he doesn't, and the divisions and the extremism continues, i've got to take another look. >> but stealing support back from trump could be hard. 51% every his supporters in the cbs news poll say their minds are made up. and they're sticking with trump. >> weijia jiang, cbs news, washington. now, in the wake of trump's comments, facebook founder and ceo mark zuckerberg is posting message to muslims who use the social networkment zuckerberg says, quote, you are always welcome here. he goes on to say facebook will fight to protect the right of muslim users. the first funeral for one of the 14 victims in the san bernardino massacre will be held today. meanwhile, the fbi believes the two gunmen, say he had farook and tashfeen malik were radicalized two years ago before they became engaged and got marriedment background check failed to uncover

malik's beliefs when she went for visa. learned the fbi is investigating if farook and marquez, former neighbor, were planning an attack as far back as 2012. all right, back here at home, i switch things up, check in with katie about our forecast. katie, we have family had some video here from south philadelphia where the christmas trees are getting a suntan, you might say. we'll check in with katie on the skydeck, also getting a sun town -- suntan, so bright. >> beautiful. that's the story for us for several more days, of course coming close to the weekend now, looks like it not only gets milder from here, but we keep that sunshine right through the weekend. so, i mean, it is phenominal. if you like that casino of thing. ski lovers probably not so much. but i think a lot of people are happy about what we're going have in store here. let's look where we stands in terms of what we're forecasting and what the records would be. your forecasted highs in the yellow, the records is in the red. so we will come close tomorrow. we should tie it saturday. we think we're actually going to make real gun run at brand

new record sunday, meanwhile, we look at monday still awfully mild in the 60s, this is december, folks, we're used to the 40's at best, good stuff if you like that warmth. storm scan3, pretty quiet right now, we had frontal boundary long gone, looking at area temperatures, pushing already close to the daytime high we're projecting, 58 what we are currently standing at here at philadelphia international airport, low of 60s through the pinelands, down toward the shore points. it feels like spring outside. it is crazy. and i love it, 06 degrees though again the expected high for us here in the city, little cooler by comparison down the shore, but everybody can bank on that sunday shine around the region as a whole, and again, erika, something that's going to stick with us, for awhile. we'll have more of the good news for you a bit later in the show. >> thank you. happening today, the suspect of the shooting of pennsylvania state trooper is supposed to appear at preliminary hearing. giovanni koto charged with shooting patrick patrick casey november 24th. it happened during a brief chase in center city philadelphia that ended in a

fiery crash on the vine expressway. koto is 17 but social security charged as an adult. trooper casey suffered a shoulder one. in vineland, viewing and funeral mass today for nati ramirez and her baby, found murdered earlier this month. police say ramirez's ex-boyfriends confessed to the killings. the viewing and funeral mass will be held this morning at the devine mercy paris church in vineland. >> new castle county police need your help identify ago mini-van full of grinches, take a look at the surveillance pictures, man seen removing packages from the front porch of shell win road on tuesday. police say that suspect got out of his silver mini-van, that followed an ups truck, that victim's home. anyone with information on who this is is asked to call new castle county police. protests continue in chicago, sparked by the release of video that showed the 2,014 fatal police

shooting of black teenager. medical students staged a die-in downtown this morning. the group echoed calls for male mayor rob emanuel to resign over the city handling of the motorcycle done al shooting. emanuel apologized yesterday, but, how much, he said, he will not step down. police in geneva are searching for suspects in connection to last month's terror attacks in paris. authorities in switzerland have reportedly flagged several suspicious individuals, who could be in that region. police are stepping up security as that search gets underway. >> ♪ >> madonna stunning fans on the street of pasties with that impromptu concert for the victims of the terrorist attacks. girl sang three songs with her guitarist and her son shortly after finishing her regularly concert in paris. just before that performance, madonna tweeted she was going to decide -- at the site of

>> the tone ocean quartet awarded the 2015 nobel peace prize, group comprised of four organizations representing unions, industry, trade, and human rights. the nobel committee credited the group for helping to build democracy in the war torn north african country of tunisia after the 2011 revolution. a new jersey homeowner finds an unusual site in his backyard, a bald eagle stuck in a tree. that eagle's been there for several days now, suffering from an injury. "eyewitness news" reporter greg argos at the scene in pittstown with more. greg? >> reporter: erika, good afternoon, really is an incredible scene, here in pit town, new jersey, our nation's bird perched up there in the tree. you can see right now, just sort of relaxing, it's been here for at least the past few days, told by the homeowner they spotted it around 9:00 a.m. on monday. and that's when they heard chickens from a neighbor's yard, they have a chicken coup here, that's when the chicken

started making a russell, they realized something was up in the tree. actually joined hereby the homeowner, courtney heat, and courtney, when you first spotted this bird, it was pretty exciting, wasn't it? >> it was, yes. i pulled in the driveway around 2:00 p.m. on monday. my neighbor came over and she actually told me her chickens that morning had alerted her, so at that point we thought it was really cool to have our nation's bird in our tree, and -- >> but then the next day you realize something was wrong, the next day, we shod mention this eagle is perched up here, been perched up here for a few days because it does have an injury? >> yes, by tuesday morning, we were all concerned by the time i called wildlife and fish division from new jersey, our neighbor had already called. they were here. with binoculars were able to determine that the bird has an injured leg, which actually even from some of the photographs my husband was able to get, you can see it is highly visible, so, definitely has an injury. >> definitely has injury. and your daughter here, anna,

she is four years old, and she has a name for the birds. she nicknamed it. anna, can you tell us what it is? lilly? lilly is the name of the bald eagle. of course this is serious situation, though, guys, erika back there at the steaks, i can tell you there are organizations here, the trust is here, putting traps down on the grounds, some dead animals and some meat, the normal things that this bald eagle would normally eat. hoping to get it down to the ground and then capture it and help rehabilitate t but it is a serious thing, because this is protected species, been here for the past few days, normally these animals eat every five days. so, operation of sorts going on here in pit town, new jersey, we'll of course stick to it and give you the latest as soon as hopefully this bird does come down to gel rehabilitated. live here in pittstown, new jersey, i'm greg argos, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> greg, just saying in the studio it must be getting hungry, hopefully they can catch it and get it better.

thank you. >> residents in o call a florida forced to leave their neighborhood, sinkhole about 40 feet wide, 20 feet deep. contractors say the hole is not getting any bigger, blaming it on a water main break. crews now working to fix it at this hour. and, check this out. fire fighters oakland, california putting out a house fire, when they found a dog in a crate trapped inside. that dog was unconscious, when they found him, in the home. they brought him outside and as you can see right there they used the snout mask to help revive him, give him some ex jen, firefighters say the dog is now doing very well. great to hear. a special honor for a philadelphia school crossing guard. for 43 years, 43 years, rain or shine, lilly dedicated her life to keeping children safe. as they crossed the street, to and from school. today, she was recognized during a retirement ceremony at the 14th police district. it is good to be here.

j although yet to experience our first snowstorm this winter, once the snow does hit, delaware residents have easier time tracking the plows, so neat. thanks to del dot's new plow tracking system, you can use the agency's website or app to follow any of the states plows to see when your neighborhood streets will be cleared. they also planned to add a feature letting you know if a truck is plowing, salting, or changing mow lakes cents. i think that's such a great idea, you know, sitting at home, if you are a side street, not a main roadway, can be sitting in snowstorm so long. >> absolutely, such a great idea. >> not that we're dealing with any that far any time soon. not complaining. >> part of that is we have

been talking about in our winter forecast, part due to he will nenna, typically find warmer weather because of that, in this part of the world, exactly what's going on, i mean, three fold. this is just such a warm pattern for our area. no snow? site for days. storm system will move in next week but really big story is sunshine and 60s. love it. not shabby, right? let's get you out there. first and for most, let me put the disclaimer, not real live picture, okay, just awesome graphics, that's all. just saying. but, i did want to gave you a sense of how close we are, as we continue to countdown the days to some, you know, milestones, as we look ahead to winter. average high of 45 comes along in four days, right now average high is 47. but in just four short days, we would normally be at 45. nothing like that in the future for us here this week. meanwhile, winter officially begins in 12 days, winter solsus, that is. and then christmas itself is 15 days away, new years day just 22 days, so getting closer and closer berks not

really seeing much in the way of december-like conditions. jet stream so darn far north. with high pressure ringing in from the south not only above average, we will be challenging if not tying or breaking couple of records along the way, we talk about that earlier in the show. here's where we stand across the eastern us right now, flirting with 07 in charleston. that's good stuff. if you like the mild air. fifty-eight for us currently, but we will see some of the warmth continue to push in to our area in the days ahead. looking at the nationwide map from storm scan, though, what you also notice is because the jet stream so far north, one piece of the puzzle it, keeps the storms out of our hair, we've had, you know, one beginning little front earlier this morning, brought little damp weather, another system, pushing on through well off to the north, that's going to bypass us, this guy, though, this latest in the train of very nasty storms, for the past northwest, that will, in fact, blahs. blossom into larger system, becomes our next big weather feature by early next week. meantime though, site for sore eyes, right? it is so nice outside.

it feels good outside, too, because you don't have much winds. beach patrol headquarters near margate, clearly nobody out sung themselves right now, but nice day to get outside whether it be at the shore or really anywhere else. maybe do little lunch alfresco. meanwhile, army navy game coming up. you can see it right here on cbs-3 this saturday, kick off 63 degrees. keep the theme going through the weekends. check it out, 67 sunday, will in fact be new record for the books for us on sunday still mild, but that's when the next storm we were talking about does finally make its arrival. probably start with clouds, and then the rain and wind begin to pick up for us, so you want to take the umbrella with you in the morning, you'll need it later on, that's how the timing looks. even though it knocks the temperatures back, tuesday, wednesday, still almost 10 degrees above average. >> i think no one can still believe 67 degrees. >> we'll take it though. >> i'm with you. >> well, miracle at 30th street station this
