very soggy commute. sorry. good afternoon, i'm erika von tiehl. meteorologist, katie fehlinger out on the skydeck, bright enough to even have little glare there. the rain will arrive later today, right, katy? >> absolutely. we showed you on storm scan, things definitely starting to heat up in terms of the storm system headed our way, that storm system definitely is a potent one, it will be knocking temperatures back, because it is so warm outside, we expect to stay above average even into the next couple of days. let's go ahead, show you the storm system in its entirety. we start things off with nice wide zoom on storm scan, well define storm system, you have the area of low pressure over the great lakes, that is going to roll northeast, so the cold front gets dragged through the area and because it is so warm, it is just strictly rainmaker. obviously at this point skies have cleared out nicely in fact more blue skies than anything here over center city philadelphia. but boy did it start off on foggy note. let's look at the current visibilities, so much better, unless you're in the poconos, notice, it is not that awesome

up there. you still have pretty poor visibility in that location, no more dense fog advisories posted but do keep in mind that there are some of these more remote spots like the higher terrain, where you might have it sticking around, although, it is starting to dissipate, everywhere. 65 degrees, the current temperature, meanwhile at the airport, should tack few additional degrees onto that for daytime high of about 67. meanwhile, it is not a bad early afternoon, it is the second half of the day that gets a lot more difficult, because as we get into the typical evening rush, start to see wet weather moving in from west to east, we will time it out for you, coming up a bit later in the show, meantime, flirting with record territory again today. yes, sunshine, but only lasts so long so enjoy it while you have got it. >> good advice, thanks, katie. track the weather along with team of meteorologists by download g the cbs-3 weather app, available on itunes and google play. one teenager dead and another in critical condition, philadelphia police are now working to track down the

gunman, responsible for this sunday night attack. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo has more. >> gunshots, and police lights, turned quiet night to chaos in this west philadelphia neighborhood. the shooting left one teen dead and another injured. >> it was like five gunshots, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, you know, i didn't bother up trying to get up. >> ben gerald said it can get rodney his neighborhood at night. last night police busy following trail of blood and bullet. it was just after 10:30 p.m. when investigators say two, 17 year old boys, were gunned down on the 500 block of crate on street. shot and injured, one of the 17 year old victims then starts to run. police say he first makes his way down wyolucing, then over to paxson, looking for help. >> we followed blood trail. about two blocks. you could see he tried to get in several houses, there were several doors with blood on them. he ended up running inside a house. >> he was taken to the hospital, in critical condition, the other teen died. neighbors woke up monday

morning, to learn what happened overnight, sad display for one man who asked not to be identified. >> blood, on my steps, my porch, my doorknob, seems he must have knock on my door, one of the victims must have knock on my door trying to get in or something. terrible, really bad. >> now as homicide detectives sort through evidence found at the scene, police say motive remains unclear, but investigators say the teen killed was likely targeted at least 17 spent shell casings found close to his body. >> i feel sorry for him. it is a shame. >> in west philadelphia, jan carabeo, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". today marks the third anniversary of the mass shootings at sandy hook elementary school in connecticut. it was on this day in 2012 that adam lanza walk into the school and massacred 20 children and six adults before taking his own life. lanza also shot his mother at home before his attack on the school. this is the first year that newtown schools will be in session on the day that marks the shooting.

closing arguments are underway in the first trial of six baltimore police officers, charged in the death of freddie gray. gray suffered a neck injury, and a police wagon on his way to a police station in april of this year. prosecutors say officer william porter failed to put a seatbelt on gray and ignored his cries for medical help. porter testified that gray did not exhibit any signs of distress. the prosecution has presented evidence that went far beyond what the public expected. and that's what makes their case very strong. >> i just don't see where the stage has convinced anyone that beyond a reasonable doubt that simply not belting him in, when it wasn't his responsibility, you know, reflected a callous disregard for the life of freddie gray. >> if convicted officer porter faces up to 25 years in prison. and at this hour president obama's making rare visit to the pentagon where he's receiving an update on how the us military is battling isis.

the president is meeting with defense secretary ash carter along with top generals. this visit comes in the wake of the san bernadino and paris terror attacks. within the hour he's expected to responds to looming questions about his commitment to defeat isis. >> the numbers are in and they're in the in donald trump's favor this time. new pole now shows gop presidential rival ted cruz leading trump in iowa. cbs news correspondent jamie more now from new york. >> my whole life has been about winning. i'm going to win. >> a determined donald trump wasted no time bouncing on his advancing gop rival ted cruz. >> when you look at the way he's dealt with the senate, where he goes in there like, you know, frankly, like a little bit after maniac. >> des moines register bloomberg pole shows cruz with a ten-point lead in iowa. cruz has been reluctant to criticize crump. he would like to win over trump supporters. how much, the texas senator

crime on the 300 block of honky branch road. rochester's being held without bail. >> a new jersey state trooper's help to deliver a baby girl who just couldn't wait to come into the world. the little bundle of joy's parents were on their way to the hospital when they had to pull over. sergeant sean heard the call then sped to the scene in minute to deliver that adorable little girl. >> we are well trained. i'm not sure i would take it as a second profession, but this time everything worked out, and that's what i was happy about. >> oh, can you imagine? that is the first baby that sergeant has delivered and that beautiful baby girl right there, we're told that she and mom are doing just fine. and what a story. >> well, tis the season for holiday shipping and all of those delays too. it is crunch time for people hoping to get gifts delivered in time for christmas, on line retail remembers really feeling the pinch.

correspondent weijia jiang goes behind the scene, how a look at how all of those orders are handled. >> non-stop wave of packages flows into the fed ex global operation center. some 10,000 workers will handle 2 million packages every day during the busy holiday season. >> we're just started our superbowl. >> once packages arrive, they're unloaded and sorted to conveyor belt that determines their final destination. >> fed ex says it is on track to set a record this holiday season by delivering 317 million packages, up more than 12% from last year. >> because on-line shopping is booming. >> our infrastructure really geared around the capacity to handle one month out of the year. >> so it is all about the holidays? >> it is all about the holidays. >> packages are flown in and out of memphis, international airport, where fed ex has its own flight control tower to help land 200 planes a night. and just like commercial

georges high winds being blamed for blowing dozen of train cars off a bridge in texas. more than 60 train cars toppled onto a lower roadway sunday morning, in the town of rough kin. amaze inningly no one was hurt. all of those cars were believed to be empty. authorities say it will take at least two days to clear out those train cars. and, we're calling it a wacky monday for werth. because we had all of the fog, now talking rain, so warm. so much going job yes, what makes it so wack toy me, because it is so rad i can justly out of season. 60s in december? you do not see that, you typically in you a large storm system at this time of the year, might have mixing going on, maybe ice, maybe some snow. nope. don't even worry about it. couple of thunderstorms along the way, too, and the fog, more like early fall pattern than anything. just more than anything, because of the temperatures, so, sometimes mother nature, she can get little confused, you know, pattern decides it will do something like this, it won't be seasonable, although, eventually our seven day forecast does turn much

more typical for mid-december standards. but, tell you, such a warm up so far. we have good shot to make this one of the top december's in terms of warmth. that we've ever recorded. so, let's see how we're doing out there. we start things off with live look at "skycam 3". if you were with us on "eyewitness news" early this morning, man you couldn't see anything. not even the for grounds visible let alone the bridge or even the sky scape in the distance. so this has gotten so much better than it originally was in terms of the fog. that's now long gone. yes, you have even got blue skies, actually going next to live neighbor work shot, we certainly have broken out that far pattern, but there is more down the road for today, no less, in terms of weather having an impact on your travels most specifically. here is a little break, warming up nicely right now, already into the mid and even upper 60s in spots. but here is the rain on the move. that's what's going to be eventually impacting your p.m. drive. nice wide zoom on the nationwide map here. this really is the big weather feature. there is more cold air starting to drop in across the

rockies, some snow right now, and actually another storm system, in fact, tide, for the strongest storm system to even strike alaska. here it is, really well organized in fact so far off to the north, up to the arctic circle here, but will be sending piece of energy our way, to help us cool down in the days ahead, so for now nice and warm for the standards, we jump forward in the forecast, we get rid of one front, that knocks the temperatures back, then see the next piece come along and thursday look at that drop in the jet stream. those pretty colors of blue and purple will come little closer to us, and knock our temperatures back as well. to the point that we're just back to normal. now, let's jump ahead to what's going on for the rest of today. 5:00 p.m. this afternoon maybe not everybody getting hit just yet but the wet weather moving in from west to east, you could even see some of the rain come down locally very heavily across portions of new jersey, all depending where the pockets set up. maybe few breaks along the way call it periods of rain lags

us into tonight. we start to clear out through the overnight, by the time we hit early morning all clearing out, we will be back into some sunshine. now, feature rain and the, how much are we talking? couple of tents of an inch, maybe pushing near inch in some spots, but, overall, this is really going to be a big nuisance, more than anything. where we stand temperature wise, 71 degrees right now in dover, mid 60s in philadelphia, and just going to quickly jump it out to your seven day forecast the important stuff, right? sixty-seven, the expected high in the city, still warm obviously with the rain on the move. by tomorrow, temperatures get knocked back, but the sun is back, notice that winds by the way, and still you're flirting with 60 degrees, then, it is a dose of re tal at this by friday with the second cold front coming along, that's going to send us back into normal territory for change. but will feel freezing i think just because we are -- >> after 07 degrees, exactly. well, little boy's letter to santa finally gets an
