laser christmas lights. turns out they're not only a hot item for homeowners. police say they're also popular with thieves. why this novelty is an easy target. good evening everyone, i'm ukee washington. >> i'm jessica dean. we begin tonight with the search for a man police say hit a philadelphia police officer with his car and then took off. >> the officer was rushed to jefferson university hospital news" reporter david spunt is now with the latest on the officer's condition and the investigation. david? >> reporter: ukee, i just got off the phone with police source. that 26-year-old officer is behind me here at the hospital in stable condition. he was helping out fellow officers find a man with gun when he was hit and almost kill. this hole in the windshield where a philadelphia police officer landed after being hit by car. the driver of that car drove at a high rate of speed down one-way street in south philadelphia. >> it's very cowardly you'll use a car to strike a pedestrian, any pedestrian but a police officer in full uniform.

>> report roar police officers responded to call around 6:30 of a man with a gun. the man ran away and jumped into a car with an 18-year-old and 11 year old. detectives say he drove the car down sears street and hit the officer. >> he put a hole about a foot wide and 2 feet long in the front windshield. >> reporter: witnesses say children were outside when the car sped down the one-way street. >> thank god none of the children got hurt. >> reporter: alan johnson lives on the street and watched everything unfollow. some of his neighbors helped give aid at the police officer until the ambulance arrived. >> i'm glad the people in the neighborhood helped him. deeply appreciate it. >> just goes to show there's really good people out there that are willing to help the police at times of emergency. >> reporter: the suspect got out of the car and ran away. the other two in the car are in police custody. >> those two people in the car helped identify the driver. so police know exactly who they're looking for. authorities are not releasing the name of the officer or the suspect right now that officer has a head injury and a broken

leg. he's expected though to make a full recovery. that's got news. reporting live at jefferson hospital, david spunt cbs3 "eyewitness news". david, thank you. an 11-year-old shot in broad daylight is recovering in the hospital tonight. police say the girl was walking home from school when she was hit by a single bullet. it all happen on the 700 block of west lucerne street just before 3:30 this afternoon. the suspect described as a black male wearing a skull cap is still on the loose tonight. the girl meantime is in stable condition. right now we are tracking some warm but soggy weather across the region this evening. meteorologist kate bilo brings up to date on the current conditions kate? >> ukee, after three record-breaking days we now have rain moving through the area and that is putting an end at least to the record breaking warmth although it is still going to be above average for the next few days. we'll get to in in just a moment. first i want to show you what's going on outside right now. heavy array round the boston area. we've seen the heaviest rain

come and go here in philadelphia but lingering showers and another line of showers poised to move into our region through the next few hours. you can see that line has developed just south and east of harrisburg moving into lancaster county. we'll see a few showers move through philadelphia here by about midnight, 2:00 a.m. right now light rain over montgomery county into delaware county. that's going to hit the city relatively shortly. but back to the west this is the line we'll see move through during the overnight hours. and then it's out of here but in the meantime as we await the rifle of the front temperatures actually climbing a bit we're at 67 degrees right now in philadelphia. it's 68 in wilmington feel like a summer evening outside but behind the front temperatures are going to start to drop. we'll drop down to the 50s by tomorrow morning and then struggle to recover tomorrow afternoon. even though it's still above average a cool down on the way and it gets even colder in the seven day. i'll have more on that coming up. for now ukee back over to you. >> kate, thank you. see you shortly much local police are warning residents about a popular new holiday did he go laying that thieves are targeting. laser powered star showers have

been stolen from several yards in vineland cumberland county. the decorations produce colored laser light dots which illuminate on to home. victims say the thieves acted quickly. >> i didn't get a chance to go upstairs and came back down and they stole mine. >> that's lowest of the lowest christmas lights. >> it's upsetting. >> i was mad. because like it looks so plane looks like an ordinary house on the block. >> the decoration costs around $40. police say if you buy a star shower second hand, make sure it comes in the box. a community comes together to remember a high school freshman killed while riding his skateboard. stephen kim attended lenape middle school who ninth graders play foot will with central bucks west. he was the quarterback of the school. both schools joined together to remember him. the 14-year-old was killed saturday night while riding his skateboard near 611 and turk road in doylestown. >> i'm so sad to see him go.

thank you so much to everyone for coming out today. for celebrating him. >> no charges are expected against the driver of the car involved in that accident. bill cosby is firing back. today he filed counterclaims against seven of his accusers. cosby alleges the women made false accusations of sexual misconduct for financial gain. the women suing the comedian say he defamed them allowing his representatives to brand them as liars when they went public with allegations of sexual assault the women are among approximately 50 women who have accused kate cosby of rape or unwanted sexual contact. president obama personally briefed on threats facing the united states and the fight against isis in a rare visit to the pentagon today. the president met for two hours with defense secretary ash carter and other top security officials. he offer the first public details about the activities of the u.s. special forces who have been sent to fight isis in syria. he said the forces have started

helping local groups caught off supply lines used by militants. he also had a message for the terrorists. >> isil leader which is not hide and our next message to them is simple. you are next. on thursday the president is scheduled to visit the national counter terrorism center for a briefing on any possible threats to the united states over the holidays. meanwhile local democrats are pushing to change the law and bar those on the federal terrorists wash list from buying guns. "eyewitness news" in cherry hill today where congressman donald nor crows was among those calling for action. he says closing the loophole is common sense. >> quite frankly most of people here in america get it. one of the few folks who don't are those who serve with me in congress. >> the debate over guns and the terror wash list escalated following the deadly shootings in san bernardino. a $7,500 reward is now being offered for information leading to the person who shot and injured a bald eagle in pits town, new jersey.

that eagle nicknamed lilly perched in a tree for several days and was injured from an apparent shooting. only cbs3 cameras were rolling when lilly was rescued last week. the bird is now recovering after a leg surgery yesterday. ambulances on the mainline now have live saving equipment on board for pets and it's all thanks to generation donation. all ambulances in narberth now carry oxygen masks for pets who suffer from smoke inhalation and it was a medic who got the idea for the masks after seeing a dog saved at a fire. >> now a days pets are part of everybody's family, and it's important to have something to help them out, too. >> the staff at ardmore animal hospital raised all of the money in one month to buy the mask. new tonight, the phillies honor community heroes with a special salute. >> for one organization the gift they received was a game changer. for sonny and her group will go awful long way as part of the garden state underweight rescue she dives when others won't or can't. >> a lot of people ask me, how do you do it? how do you not do it? >> exactly one year ago to the date it was a volunteer with the garden state that recovered the body of shane montgomery in the schuylkill river. the 21-year-old disappeared thanksgiving morning. >> we all have day jobs and we spend a lot of time, you know, doing normal stuff, and then on the weekends we come in and help where we're needed. >> monday night at citizens bank park, the phillies saw group of volunteers deserve recognition and also some much needed financial support presenting them with $10,000 grant at their charities holiday giving party. >> we're tied together by the fact that we dive and that this is our community service. >> reporter: the divers pick up searches after police and rescue divers have to move on sometimes leaving family members with no one to turn to and find their loved ones. >> how do you look at a mother

customer felt he'd been over billed for his stay. he's been arrested and now facing several charges. drivers from uber and lyft will now be allowed to unionize in seattle. new city ordinance allows all taxi drivers to bargain collective and that applies to uber and lyft drivers. oh spokesman from uber didn't directly comment on the seattle or nance but said uber supports its drivers. uber has about 400,000 drivers nationwide. 10,000 of those are in seattle. >> around 700 new drones will be expected to be bought as holiday gifts this year just in time the faa issues new rules for the unmanned aircraft. beginning on december 21 owners must register drones in a national database. drones weighing more than half pound up to 55 pounds must be registered. the fee for each user will cost $5 for three years. the federal rules are the first

going start to warm back up again as we head toward christmas. let's not get ahead of ourselves. we still got rain to get through tonight. take a look outside. a bit of a foggy gloomy scene here but we looked at his camera at 10:00 o'clock on the cw philly and it was covered in raindrops now it looks like it's dried out a little bit. still fog and low clouds you can see the tops of the buildings here in center city. don't be fooled one more line of showers and storms to get through before we go through tonight. pan around the city looking pretty nice despite the low clouds it is very very warm outside. let me tack you through a time lance video from this morning. a flat gray. i thought my computer screen was frozen this is the fog this morning. eventually it does mick out and you start to see the city skyline in the background. very foggy start to the day. the clouds were in then the sun tried to come out nest afternoon. now it's looking a little cloudy an little damp outside and that's how it will stay through the overnight hours. but you'll wake time morning to lots of sunshine and temperatures steadily dropping but still well above average.

storm scan3 looking a little wet right now. we've got a lot of green and here's that second line of showers and storms i mentioned. it's going to be moving through during the overnight hours tonight. still off to the west as we go through the rest of tonight this line moves through. it doesn't a lot with it especially coming three overnight when it's dark out a few showers between one and 3:00 a.m. and finally by about 4:00 a.m., that clears the coast. skies begin to clear and the winds are going start to come in out of the north and west so it is going to feel a little cooler just bouvier chi of the wind on your tuesday. we've got a row of records to tell you. day three in that stretch. saturday's record -- high of 69 record that record from 1931. we smash the previous record on sunday from 1923 was 65. we got all the way to 71 and today we hit 70. the record was 69 from 1881. broke that record as well. 134-year-old record fell today. so far this month we have six days at or above 60 degrees. the record is eight. will we get there? we've got a

few more mild days on the way and in fact i think tomorrow is going to count as a 60-degree day because our temperature at midnight is going to be above 60. so we'll have seven as of tomorrow. the question do we get another one to tie that record? it looks as though we might. temperatures do take a brief tumble tore the end of the week. you can see this batch of arctic air lurking up across portions of the great lakes and by saturday that arctic air spills over winter coats will be needed. now it's not frigid. but it's around 4 degrees so it may be our first below average day all month long. but then we warm back up. take look at this. temperature outlook from the climate prediction center from december 21 through the 27th expected to be much above average once again in the entire eastern half of the country. so our prospects for white christmas looking very very slim at the moment. overnight showers and breezy and mild 55 degrees your overnight low. tomorrow sunshine, patchy clouds. breezy, cooler, but 59 degrees is still well above average we should be in the mid 40s. wednesday looks great.
