this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". good morning, the overnight rain is moving out. but get ready for some cooler temperatures morning in. >> katie has a look at the gradual cool down. >> meanwhile, philadelphia police officer struck by hit-and-run driver, more on what happened, and the search for the person responsible. >> up might want to keep an eye on your holiday deck races this year. the warning police have for resident. >> good morning, ten days until christmas, it is december 15th. we want to check in with katie and meisha. is the rainy heard sticking around. >> we'll get to that. >> yes, just going to say, because it is kind of crazy today, looks a lot bet nerve terms of the fog. but it is a little damp outside.

going out, what kind can the morning commuters expect? >> looks as though things are starting to quiet down in terms of wet weather, how much, we'll take temperatures take a hit, dropping pretty quickly here, across the delaware valley. still see little action going on over my shoulder, so we go ahead, take it full screen, at this point, bulk of the moisture moved out to sea, finding outside of lancaster county for the most part is very, very light rain. if you still have few damn roads, i won't be shocked by that. but this system is really just retreating. you can see how the skies begin to clear off in the distance to the west. and that's definitely going to be the story for us. meanwhile, i mean, you can actually see the center city skyline, different, "skycam 3", as we overlooking south, center city skyline, still at 62 degrees, now, here's an interesting tid-bit four, at 12:54 a.m. still at 69 degrees, that means, we already have a record breaking day on our hand. so the thing is these temperatures are going to be gradually falling. so we sort of level off with

time. here's where we stand right now, rest of the region still low 60s from i95 on southeast, even still flirting with 60 up in quakertown, allentown, pottstown, doylestown, and the list goes on still remaining well above average. how does the rest of the day fair? these are your afternoon highs, okay, so obviously already been a lot milder than this since early this morning, long before the sun has had a chance to come up. winds will kick in. it will be certainly milder day than average, by comparison, cooler one. so expect that sunshine, we're in transition mode as i always call it, temperatures will gradually be falling, but again, even though they are falling, meisha, still, above average. substantially so. >> absolutely, whenever we see 60s in december, katie, i don't know, i'm not complaining about. that will thank you for that. good morning, happy tuesday to you. looking where we have some construction, bala cynwyd, right lane block, city avenue northbound, conshohocken state road. looking good here, this won't cause too many problems, as it

is looking still nice and quai net our 4:00 hour, 95 southbound at cottman, s curve, still nice and quiet as well. some early risers as you can see already out on the roadways, you can kind of see the slick shine letting you know it is a little damp out there. we don't have the fog. certainly like we did yesterday. the vine closed between the broad and the schuylkill both eastbound and westbound. still closed. we can probably expect that to lift somewhere right around 5:00 hour in the trend that we've been seeing westbound usually opens first, i'll let you know when and if both lanes open. east and west, construction on the pa turnpike eastbound willow grove to delaware vale. that will left lane is closed. also, some more construction, richmond street closed between lehigh and allegheny, until 3:00 p.m. today. so i want to use that alternate of aramingo avenue. erika, back to you. >> thank you. search is on this morning for hit-and-run driver who struck philadelphia police officer. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joining us now at police headquarters with the latest on that search. and the officer's condition. jan, good morning.

>> erika, good morning, the police officer who was hit is only 26 years old, he's only been with the police here in philadelphia for two years. this morning, he's in the hospital recovering from serious head and leg injuries. he is in stable condition. and is expected to make a full recovery. meantime, his brothers in blue are busy this morning, trying to track down the suspect, the driver, and you can see how strong the impact was last night. this officer was hit just after 6:30 p.m. at 27th and sewer streets, in the grays ferry section of philadelphia. the officer was there, aiding the search for a man with a gun. police say that suspect first ran from police, and then jumped into a car with a 18 year old woman, and a 11 year old child already inside. investigators say the suspect drove the car down sears and hit the offers nerve full uniform. eyewitnesses who were there as the car sped down the one way street, then helped the officer until an ambulance arrived. >> i'm glad the people in the neighborhood helped him.

that's deeply appreciated because he was injured. it is just a tragedy tt every time you turn around you watching the news somebody is getting hurt. >> very scary situation for everyone who lives in this neighborhood. eyewitnesses tell police there were children playing along that one way street just before this accident happened. so police say there certainly could have been more injuries. meantime again police have not yet tracked down the driver of this vehicle. however, they say, they have good idea who they are looking for, they say eyewitnesses have been very cooperative in this case. we will continue to keep you up-to-date. for now, reporting live outside philadelphia police headquarters, jan carabeo, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> jan, thank you. >> also, new morning, philadelphia police are investigating an armed robbery at gas station in north philadelphia. it happened just after two amity exxon station in the 3100 block of north broad street. police say the suspect robbed a clerk with a rifle, probably ak47. no word yet on what was taken, we did just speak with the own here tells "eyewitness news"

he was also robbed this past friday. >> a 11 year old shot and robbed in daylight is recovering in the hospital this morning. police say that little girl was walking home from school when she was hit by single bullet. it all happened 700 block of west luzerne street just before 3:30 yesterday afternoon, suspect described as black male wearing skull cap is still on the loose this morning. the girl is in stable condition. local police are warning residents about a possibly new decoration thieves are now targeting. lazer powered star showers have been stole friend several yards, in vineland, cumberland county. the decorations produce colored lazer light dots which illuminate onto home. victims say thieves act quickly. >> i didn't even gather chance to go upstairs and come back and they stole mine that quick. >> the lowest of the low, christmas lights. >> it is upsetting. i was mad. just like so plane now, looks like ordinary house on the block.

>> the decorations cost about $40. police say if you buy a star shower secondhand, make sure it comes in the box. >> bill cosby is firing back. he's filing counterclaims against seven of his accusers. cosby alleges the women made false ac ooh saying cents of sexual misconduct for financial game. the women suing him say he defamed them, branding them as liars when they went public with allegations of sexual assaultment women in the suit are approximately 50 women have accused cosby of rape or unwanted sexual contact. president obama was personally briefed on threat facing the us and the fight against isis, a rare visit to the pentagon. yesterday, he offered the first public details about the activities of the us special forces fighting isis in syria. he said the forces have started helping local groups cut off supply lines used by millitant. on thursday president obama's scheduled to visit the national counter terrorism

center. >> after terrorist attacks at home and april broad, new pole shows more americans than ever support sending us grounds troops to fight the islamic state group. according to research basilica of saints peter and paul the associated press gfk42% favor deploying troops. that's up from 31% in the past year. and, isis is certainly going to be a topic tonight when the top 9gop contenders for president face-off in the last debate of the year. donald trump takes center stage again, but right next to him, texas senator ted cruz, man nipping at his heals in iowa. the bottom four candidates will take part in the so-called under card debate earlier in the day. >> 7,500-dollar reward is now being offered for information leading to the person who shot and injured a bald e-a-g-l-e-s nel pit town, new jersey, that eagle nicknamed lilly perched in a tree for several days. she was injured by apparent shooting. only cbs-3 cameras were rolling when lilly was rescued now week. that bird now recovering after leg surgery yesterday.

some ambulances on the main line now have life saving equipment on board for pet, all thanks to generous donation. all ambulances in narberth now carry oxygen masks for pets who suffer from smoke inhalation. medics got the idea for the masks after seeing a dog saved after a fire. >> nowadays, pets are part of everybody's family. and it is, you know, important to have something to help them out too. >> the ardmore animal hospital raised all of the funds in one month to buy those masks. >> 4:39 right now. for star wars fans on the west coast, the wait is finally over. the force awakens premiered last night in los angeles. we have more on all of the excitement along the red carpet. also the rain finally moving out. the cooler weather moving in. katie take a look at the gradual drop in temperatures over the next few days. we'll be right back.

the star wars series after a decade long absence from the big screen. fans have been camped out for weeks to be among the first to see the film. it was a full and very busy carpet event for the films' premiere, and all of the stars were aligned. >> it is very exciting. i just feel very, very grateful to be a part of this amazing film, let alone to be one of the new female characters. all right, the force awakens opens nationwide friday. how much, a few theatres in our area will show it thursday night, and with all of the hype the force awakens it is expected to break a number of box office records. can't wait to see it. hey the rain finally moving out of philadelphia. we have live look for you right here at christmas village in center city. love when they get the tree up. had not felt much like the holiday season for the east coast recently, but it is changing. walking through yesterday there yesterday, caring my coat, katie. you didn't even need a coat two weeks before christmas. >> so pleasantly mild outside. but that is going to be

changing by this weekend, especially to finally have below average day. >> oh, wow, what a change. >> i know, so temperatures are only gradually decreasing from here, we just had cold front. that's actually going to knock the temperatures back little bit. still above average. but then, potent cold front number two comes along. >> the stink err. >> but hey, winter actually coming up here on sunday, that's the first day of it. why not actually feel like the season? what do you say? all right. yes, let's talk little statistical information here. so far, in the month of this december, of this year, we have had seven days that were at or above 60 degrees. okay? the record for most days is eight. and it was six out of yesterday, we had to bump it up to seven because we've already been in the 60s since midnight. we already have record breaking day on our hand here today again. but, that record was already set, now that the cold front is sweeping through, we are in trans innings mode, the cooler air starting to take over, the

breeze is starting to pick up. but it hasn't quite reached it peak just yet. so, that's why it is going to be warmer at least for now through the next few hours, than it will be later on today. but still above average later today. >> this storm system by the way really rapidly intensifying as it pulls away, but that's where the breeze will get into the forecast for us here today. high pressure briefly will take its place come tomorrow. that's why nice quiet stretch from weather basically from the canadian border all the way down to the gulf, headed our way, current wind speeds, not terrible, it is breezy granted making it feel little cooler too when you have got a little bit more of the northwest component, or reading, how much it, hasn't really gun to pick up along i95 yet. that will change. it looks as though we will be talking winds basically out of the west through the day as high as 20 miles per hour, higher gusts to 30, the sun will shine, again, notice that wind. the wind does calm down later on tonight, drop to 43 degrees, which by the way is a lot closer to typical daytime highs. cooler but above the norm. we keep it that way right into

thursday. that's also when periods of rain re-enter the forecast from the next front we were talking about, and then, dairy say it, it is actually below average this weekend, we kick off the winter season in to next week with much more seasonable conditions, erika? >> thank you. talking sports right now, the sixers will wrap up their road trip tomorrow night in atlanta when they take on the hawks. okafor, who turns 20 today, happy birthday, played in his native chicago last night, first quarter sixers down by two, okafor goes baseline, to tie the bulls at ten. second quarter game tied at 30. okafor gets past noah sixers actually led by five at the half. well done. the bulls though woke up in the third quarter, tony scored two there. when it was over the sixers still winless on the road, lost to the bulls 115 to 96. >> eagles quarterback sam bradford's heating up as the season goes on. the birds are five and one, the last six games he started and finished. bradford was at it again

>> the search is on this morning for hit-and-run driver who struck a police office nerve grays ferry, authorities say the officer was responding to call last night about a man with a gun. the suspects sped off. the officer is hospitalized with a serious head injury, and a broken leg. >> local police are warning residents about popular new holiday decoration that thieves are targeting. lazer powered star showers have been stolen from several yards in vineland, cumberland county. police say if you buy a star shower second hand, make sure it comes in the box.

affect your commute. >> right now roadways looking pretty darn good. there may be little wet, katie, but i'm hoping it will dry up as we progress through the morning. >> look that way, in fact, definately seeing things clear out nicely on storm scan3, i would say no longer is the wet weather the issue, rather, it is the fact that we will start to see temperatures gradually fall. that will will take time. balls the key word here is gradual. we actually have another frontal boundary that's really going to solidify the cooler air for us come this weekend. but for now, i have to till, doesn't feel too bad. we've already hit a record this morning. the high today, has already been set at 69 degrees. that happened at 1:14 this morning. dark and early, right? that was actually breaking the record last set in 2008 tied with 1971 of 66 degrees, so off to real warm start already. but that is going to change with time here. we are going to again see the temperatures dropping off with time, any wet weather though really is winding down, what you see over even west chester county, lancastery,
