death is under investigation. a philadelphia jury find daughter of the bucks county police chief guilty of assault in the 2014 attack on a gays couple in center city. catherine knott was acquitted of the more serious felony charge. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff was inside the courtroom for the verdict. >> reporter: after three days of deliberations, jury found catherine knott to be guilty, of recklessly endangering a gay couple and conspiracy tied to the the simple assault of one of the men during a violent center city encounter in september of 2014. the 25 year-old was found not guilty of a felony aggravated a assault charge but could still face jail time. >> i think in her mind she had no idea why she was there, because she saw nothing wrong with what she did. >> reporter: prosecutors argued that knott and two male friend were active in using homophobic slurs to stir violence. although surveillance video was a large pennsylvania part of the case so was not not's

had always been supportive of him. she will be sentenced in february. reporting from center city, i'm alexandria hoff for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". upper darby police officer turns himself in and goes before a judge. he is accused of tampering with evidence. he stole cash and drugs. "eyewitness news" reporter rahel solomon joins us from upper dash which more on that, rahel, good evening. >> reporter: ukee, good evening. this is a police officer with the upper darby police department for 17 years but today, he was the one facing a judge. former up are darby police officer brad ross had nothing to say to our camera friday as he hurried out of district court, he accused of stealing drugs, cash and other valuables from the evidence room of the police department. the same place he served as the primary evidence custodian. >> he had every right to be in the evidence room, he he had every right to be handling evidence but nobody expect him to be a thief. >> reporter: delaware county district attorney jack whalen

says at alleged theft dates back to 2012, and says that because of the alleged tampering with evidence, his office was forced to throw out charges in several cases. >> when you are involved in cases, that now cannot be prosecuted or cases that are compromised, there is no justification in the world for that and that the police officer you have to be held accountable. >> reporter: his wife claims he became addicted to prescription pills after two on duty car accidents in 2012. late january, 2015, ross committed himself to an in patient rehab program, days after upper darby police began investigating. months later, he voluntarily resigned from the department. >> we have officers that risked their lives each and every day that stand up, from moral integrity and we're very proud of him and this is the exception to the rule and he will have to answer for his actions. >> reporter: prosecutors say that the alleged theft was so

out of control that they vowed they found pills in ross's home that were supposed to be in the evidence room of the police department and they are now out on bail but expected back in court at late december. report aring from the upper darby police department, rahel sol machine for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". the mumia abu-jamal sues the department of corrections for violating the constitution's ban of cruel and unusual punishment. in a hearing today abu-jamal testified that he has been receiving inadequate treatment, for his health problems. the 61 year-old wants access to the costly hepatitis c drug that can cure 90 percent of patients, the the state argued abu-jamal's life is not in imminent risk from the disease. he is currently serving life sentence for murder of philadelphia police officer danny faulkner. new developments in the pennsylvania budget crisis. governor wolf's office says it has necessary support in the state house to pass major tax legislation, and that is seen as a crucial step toward
