this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". good morning, today is expected to be the busiest shipping day of the year for us postal service, we'll tell you when you need to mail those packages for your friends to get them in time for christmas. a look at last night's lost against the cardinals for the eagles, what it will take for the eagles to make the playoffs. certainly felt like the holiday season this past weekend finally, right? but get ready for another warm up. katie look at the incredibly warm temperatures we'll see this christmas week. good morning, it is monday, december 21, i'm erika von tiehl. we check in with katie and meisha a finally felt like the holidays this weekend? >> kind of crazy coming into work. actually felt little cold. did i not hear the birds this morning that we've been

talking about. so are they going to return to us? >> i think we will probably hear them chirping this week. we came off what felt like normal wintery weekends, right? that's actually going to starting to by the wayside again, specking not another just warm up but incredible warm up as we expect to actually flirt with or even get into the 70s, the 70s, in some spots, looking forward. now, "skycam 3", all calm and quiet, nice and quiet conditions, ben franklin bridge overlooking campbell's field, no problems there. see across the river, center city skyline, all a-okay there as well, and talking temperatures, right now we stand as we are into the 21st day of december, the winter solsus, by the way, 10.6 degrees above the seasonable average. we had shot to be below average this past weekends it, didn't happen. but the coolest weekend we've had yet. but every single day this month has been warmer than typical. every single day. so we've got really good shot to make this not just in the

top five, of the warmest december on record, but we might end up with the warmest december we've ever reported. storm scan3 at this point pretty much quiet. clouds out there. but it is tran will. more than anything just clouds overhead today. we are watching series every fronts cross through the area in the next couple of days. that will bring us few additional wet weather chances, when i say wet weather talking strictly rain folks, no chance for ice or snow this time, not talking temperatures like we will be. currently 37 degrees at philadelphia international airport, yes, chilly, perception is everything, you know it feels so much colder by comparison, to recent days here, certainly the weekend quite cold. but before that you know what i am talking b it has been so mild when you step out the door. 33 degrees current temperature in willow grove as well as palmyra. we take you for the in the forecast with your outlook today. few sunny breaks along the way, generally it is going to be cloudier day, you can expect temperatures to actually be little warmer than they were this past weekends, mid and upper 50's, the general expectation here in

"eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us at the depford post office with more on the quiet for now, for now, justin. >> for now indeed, erika, good morning, yes, we are live from the depford post office here. pretty soon these trucks here will be loaded up with christmas cashing e by some counts, 40% of christmas shopping happens after december 15th. so that means a lot of last minute deliveries are coming your way. as you mentioned, today is a peak day, 30 p.m. packages, to be delivered, by days end, and making this the busiest delivery day for the us post office, now, overall, the usps

is prepping to pass out some 15.5 billion with a b billion packages, cards, letters, other parcels this holiday. that tall task did lead them to higher an additional 30,000 seasonal workers, as you mentioned, we do have deadlines for to you remember as you get ready to ship your parcels out on this big day, that big day being december 25th, december 21 is your last day for priority mail, december 23rd is your last day for priority mail express, you still can't cut it controls, but not too close. if you do, you will miss that christmas window. coming up at 5:00 we'll take you inside the post office and show you what this busy day looks like here in depford. erika, back over to you. >> justin, thank you. new this morning, police have a suspect in custody for a deadly shooting in east mt. airy. investigators tell us four men were watching the football game, one pulled out gun and started shooting. one man died at the scene, two

others were returned to the hospital. it happened in the 8300 block of gilbert street shortly after midnight. one victim is in critical condition, the other is stable. >> the philadelphia eagles now hold their own fate in their hands, the entire season now hinges on the last two games of the season. this morning, the eagles probably putting last night's shoot-out by the cardinals in the rear-view mirror. dominant plays by arizona, running back, david johnson here, just too much for the eagles defense to handle. in the end, the cardinals put up nearly 500 total yards against the eagles, final scored, cardinals 40, eagles, 17. after the game, chip kelly spoke with the media. >> the biggest disappointment we didn't tackle woman. that's where i look at it, defensively we didn't tackle, offense we turned the ball over. every game counts. there are no asterisks, everybody has guys hurt at this time of year.

are still trying to establish what connection they may have to last month's deadly attack in the french capitol. the november 13th attacks claimed 130 lives. officials are calling a bomb square that forced an air france flight to make an emergency landing in kenya a hoax. a passenger noticed the device which turned out to just be cardboard and paper with a timer. the boeing 777 was caring 459 passengers, 14 view members, exited by emergency slide. officials say while it was just a hoax, it still raises serious security concerns. air france says at least three other flights have received threats since last month's paris attacks. a special delivery for the son after fallen philadelphia police sergeant, robert wilson iii. trying to figure out what led female driver to run into dozens of pedestrians along the las vegas strip. it happened in front of the parish hotel and casino and "planet hollywood". officials say one person is dead and dozens others injured including a child. that driver was taken into police custody and tested for alcohol and drugs. well there is was just a huge flaw at the miss universe pageant last night in las vegas. >> columbia. >> i have to apologize. the first runner up is columbia.

>> oh, you just cringe. can you imagine? host steve harvey accidentally said the wrong woman's name as the winner of the competition. miss philippine, that young woman, was actually the winner. it caused a lot of confusion on stage. harvey immediately tried to take control of the situation and explain what happened. >> this is exactly what is on the card. i will take responsibility for this. it was my mistake. it was on the card. horrible mistake. but the right thing i can show it to you right here. the first runner up is columbia. it is my mistake. >> oh, he is owning up to it. can you imagine, though? my gosh, miss columbia, realized it on his own, he made a mistake, he said he has not spoke win miss columbia a but you see her on her knees, taking the crown off. >> oh, my gosh.

a lot of clouds currently over spreading pennsylvania really the tri-state area in general. the first of the series every fronts, actually, dissipating as it crawls east. but regardless at the moment that is the one thing that you can see very vividly on the area map off to the west and we will likely see couple of showers build in as early as late tonight generally into tomorrow morning specially. so here it come. that cold front, first of series moving on through. then we look ahead into tuesday, and again, likely rain around specially in the morning. then we are going to see a warmfront lift in. it will bring additional showers on into wednesday. but because it is a warmfront, the temperatures go on nice uphill climb. how are we looking for the rain chances in for now no shot whatsoever. tomorrow primarily morning issue when we see the showers build in. bit of higher chance on wednesday, looks like our weather day of the pack, in times for christmas eve, that threat does go down, likely have some showers maybe even couple of rumbles of thunder along the way. as we look through today, mostly cloudy day, not as bright as the weekend was, it

>> checking your forecast. >> morning, happy monday everybody, in the final days now leading to up christmas, but there is nothing that's going to actually feel wintery about this forecast for us here in the tri-state area any time soon. that's strictly just a backdrop that we're using to illustrate the point here. winter does begin tonight, our winter solsus, 11:48 p.m. the shortest amount of daylight we see. nine hours 19 minutes and 58 seconds to be specific. and then we do start to tack on little bit of time with every passing day, those hours every delay light. days will eventually start to get longer and longerment storm scan3, for now, quiet as can be, we do have dissipating cold front. see the leading edge that far here starting to roll into actually western ohio at this point. it does appear as though that will have chance to dissipate as it does roll in. so, we might see some showers as early as overnight tonight, and specially tomorrow morning, watch for some fog, too, but the bigger story look at these temperatures. not even close to seasonable, and thursday, obviously, the
