their busy northeast corridor. details on. that will. >> good morning, it is monday, december 2; i'm erika von tiehl. let's check in with katie and meisha. finally looking like the holidays. good morning, ladies. >> good morning, guys, happy monday, good to be back with you, feeling chilly but nice to have real nice dry roadways, nothing real toy report much going on in the world of traffic, katie, so what can we expect in the world of weather. >> certainly going to be very mild upcoming week here, yes. you heard it right, mild, again, so after feeling a little more like winter for a change, or little more seasonable, over this past weekends, still chilly now, that's about to go by the wayside once more as yet another warming trend is on the way. we're in the just talking about a typical warming trend. this is a substantial one. so already expecting mid 50's here today coming off of sunday's high of 43. going back into the 60s come tuesday, wednesday, and yes, not typo on christmas eve we expect the 70s, unreal, 43 the average hi, so we are

expecting to be almost 30 degrees above average out there. storm scan3, meanwhile, we've got clear sky generally, there are some clouds out there, certainly, but it is a quiet beginning to the morning. although, off in the distance we have a frontal boundery crossing through. for now temperatures as they stand, they're not too bad. we're into the 40's in a couple of spots, 48 degrees currently in wildwood, 34 in trenton, and as we move forward in the forecast here today expect to see plenty of clouds, thankfully little milder, than it was yesterday, though, meisha, 56 is the expected high. >> katie, santa claus sure will be happy isn't he, 07 on christmas eve. happy monday. looking at 42 northbound creek road looking good you can see a lot of headlights now just starting to get on the 42 freeway, moving in the northbound direction toward 295, kind of what you can expect we push now into the 5:00 hour. the schuylkill head light, conshohocken curve, i keep my eye all morning long, we know it gets busy certainly already heating up.

mondays tend to be busier travel days. we'll see it heat up even in the 5:00 hour as early as. that will volume, good news, looks like just opening now, westbound certainly is. eastbound opening up as i speak right now. so good news for those every you who have to hit the vine between the schuylkill and the broad, and also an accident here, this is an accident investigation, it happened around midnight. this is in the town of horsham keith valley road closed between county line road. it will be closed most of the morning so you will want to use this alternate right here, park road, again, that's going to be closed most of the morning because of this accident investigation. erika, over to you. >> meisha, thank you. well the holiday shipping rush is upon us. today is expected to be the busiest delivery day of the season for the us postal service. volume is reportedly up this year, all thanks to surge in on line sales. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us now at post offers in depford with more on. that justin, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, take a look behind this. kind of busy right now. you can't tell it is so orderly, but sees seeing lots of boxes on their way to their

destinations. today will be busy day for the post offers, some 30 million packages said to be delivered by days end, making this the busiest day for the us post office. now, overall, the usps is expecting to pass out some 15.5 billion packages, cards, letters, and other parcels this holiday, a loft them coming from amazon, as we are seeing out here, rule lala, best buy, open now some 600 million packages set for delivery between thanksgiving and new years eve this year. that's more than 10% higher than this time last year, and to help get all of this out the door and to you the usps has hired some 30,000 seasonal workers. looking at the activity, i want to bring in ray from the post office and ask you, ray, this is what you are seeing right now, bit of controlled chaos, is that right. >> yes, this is organized chaos. you will see this going on in post offices all over the country today. today we expect this to be our busiest delivery day.

we're probably going to deliver about 30 million packages like that all across the country today. >> as we're just in here right now looking based on what we're seeing on the floor here, lot of boxes from amazon. >> lot of boxes from amazon, as well as some other mailers, and we've been taking out parcels and packages on sunday leading to up there is we had carriers go out yesterday, we will have carriers come in today to help deliver large amount of parcels you see here. >> handcuff weekends delivery to catch up for demand? >> yes, we it, we started out i guess last week we had, last monday, december 14, our busiest mailing day. so we actually accepted in about 615 million pieces of mail that day, and now you are seeing a lot of that mail that was coming in last week, going to be delivered today, and tomorrow, and the next day, in anticipation, in getting it delivered in time for christmas. >> ray, before we go, two important deadlines. if you want to get your packages to your destinations by december 25th, what are they? >> okay, if you are mailing today, you are going to have to use priority first class

mail. that will will get it there one, two, three days, depending where you are sending it from, where it is going to. if you go past a day tomorrow or the next day you are probably going have to use priority express mail which is overnight to most zip codes. >> satisfy talking december 21 and december 23 as your two major deadlines at this point? >> correct. >> erika, you heard the man, two more days, two more big deadlines. you can caught it close, but again if you miss those windows there, you may not make christmas day. back over to you. >> that happens sometimes, justin, thank you. >> new this morning, police have suspect in custody for a deadly shooting in east mt. airy. investigators tell us four men were watching a football game when one pulled out gun and started shooting. one man died at the scene. two others were rushed to the hospital. it happened in the 8300 block of gilbert street shortly after midnight. one victim is in critical condition, the other is stable. >> this morning, eagles fs on their last mathematical

hope. birds lost to overpowering arizona cardinals team last night at the linc. arizona came out strong, and never put on the brakes. the cardinals offense was relentless in its defense sharp taking advantage of several eagle turnovers. in the end, it was the cardinals, 40, eagles, 17. after the game, eagles fans kept their chins up. >> philly is dangerous if they get in the playoff. i am think so. i am not worn bid tonight's lost. come on, you got to -- any given sunday, right, any given sunday. >> i want to let the guys know we have to play hard. this game really didn't mean nothing. we got to go, pun of it to washington, pun of it to new york to punch our ticket into the playoffs. >> there go. we'll have reaction from the team coming up in our next half hour. eagles next opponent, the washington redskins, the biggest game of the season for the birds here on cbs-3 this saturday night. kick off 8:25. 5:06 right now. delaware state police need the public's help in tracking down

a person who fired a gun during road rage incident. the shooting happened sunday night in the pike creek area. that suspect shot out window of another drivers vehicle on limestone road. state police say the suspect was driving a white toyota scion. they say he was white male becomes 25 years old. his car had florida rem station and blue tarp covering the passenger side window. delaware state police say if you know anything please give them a call. meanwhile, a key train safety system now active on amtrak rales along the busy northeast corridor. amtrak activated positive train control which can automatically slow or stop a speeding train. transportation experts say this braking system would have prevented the fatal derailment in port richmond earlier this year. developing right now, one person is dead and 30 more injured after a woman runs her car into a sidewalk filled with pedestrians on the vaguest strip. andrew spencer reports, investigators think that driver may have done it on

purpose. >> we have determined that this is an intentional act. >> woman driving down the las vegas strip in a 1996 oldsmobile leaves the road and drives on the sidewalk crashing through more than two dozen pedestrians. >> it literally like like she wasn't trying to stop the car, just straightforward, not even moving. the win shields were busted and there were like three, four men running after her to try to stop the car. >> she went up, off the street, on to the sidewalk, two, possibly three times. >> inside that car, police say, was a three year old child, witnesses say, people scrambled to try and stop the driver. >> she road the sidewalk, she came to a stop right here at the paris intersection, and then she like people were punching the windows, trying get the child out of the back seat, she accelerated again and just kept mowing everyone down. >> police say the child was not hurt. at this point, police don't know why the woman was driving on the sidewalk. >> we know that this was not

an act of terrorism. and we have ruled that out. >> investigators are looking at all of the surveillance video from the area, and interviewing dozens of witnesses, trying to pinpoint exactly what happened. andrew spencer, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". meanwhile, investigators are trying to pinpoint what caused a fiery crash that killed three people in northeast philadelphia. it happened early sunday morning, police say, chevy camaro sped down toward dale avenue and crashed into tractor-trailer parked near the holmesburg bridge. firefighters found three vehicles engulfed in flames. neighbors say accidents like this have happened before. >> there has been few accidents, people running in the back of the trucks, people running, like, hitting the sides of the trucks, because sometimes they have them things sticking out on the sides. >> investigators say, the tractor-trailers were parked illegally. police say all three victims were in the camaro. two philadelphia police officers are expected to be okay after a cruiser crash in kingsessing. the officers were responding

to a call when the accident happened at 53rd street and springfield avenue. there is no word if anyone was in the other vehicle, if they were injured, or what caused that crash. happening today, new judge takes over for a new district court in montgomery county. greg scott is taking the oath, that will make him the youngest district judge in pennsylvania's history. he'll also become the first african-american judge in montgomery county. the swearing in ceremony is he at the montgomery county court howls at 9:30 this morning. also today private operator is trying to get back into the space travel game this morning. space x set to launch its falcon nine rocket from cape canaveral, florida. company space flights have been on hold after one of the rockets explode in the june. with today's flights engineers will also be trying safely land a rocket after flight. get to reuse it. still ahead this morning, rare glimpse inside ancient egyptian tomb.

>> at least 91 people are still missing after a powerful landslide struck the southern chinese city. chinese officials say a cascade of mud and debris toppled dozens of build, that landslide was caused when pile of construction waist and residue grew so steep it collapsed. so far at least 13 people are in the hospital and rescue crews still searching for survivors. a special delivery for the son of fallen philadelphia police sergeant, robert wilson the thirds. through the course of the weekend, offer to the west there is new cold front. expected to actually fizzle as it rolls east. but, that is where we see our next shot for wet weather. chances and that's going to bring in the chance as early as late tonight. so we will get through the toy drop off without a hitch just more clouds than we're experienced through the course of of the pass weekends. once through we're not done with the systems rolling in. in fact we have another one comes our way. so starting to warm things up today. mid 50's, we continue the trend tomorrow. zero six. we keep that going with some showers looks like, heading into wednesday, some rain, in the forecast, this actually looks like the with the he is day of the forecast in fact, records will be challenged still in the 60s, and then the big guy, record warmth expected on christmas eve. we are going to be watching new cold front cost through, it doesn't really bring us back down to reality any time soon. see in the forecast down the road here. for now expect clouds, 56 the expected high. drop down to only 48 tonight possibly with the showers building in overnight, and then better shot for rain probably some fog, too,

tomorrow morning, especially, still, showery come wednesday, as i mentioned, probably the wettest day of the forecast, maybe rumble every thunder and shower on thursday but 71 degrees, and then held back to near 60, pitons by comparison. >> tell you what, katie, i already packed away all of the tank tops, shorts, bathing suits tuck for years, for years now those have been tucked away. 422, taillights trooper road, looking good. but as we usually know on mondays, when we move into the 5:00 hour, things really start to heat up. already snowing for a monday morning, we will get probably busy today as it usually tends to be one of the busier travel days. ninety-five tail light will be in the northbound direction approaching girard avenue. just remember that girard avenue ramp, not in this camera shot you are looking at right now, but that ramp to 95 north is closed, and that will be closed until june of 2017. so we have to get used to that change. the schuylkill eastbound at the vine, looking good it, just cleared the vine all clear east and westbound between the schuylkill and
