contestants quickly surrounded miss columbia, to comfort her, back stage, miss columbia, and philippines, showed grace. >> everything happens for a reason so i'm happy. >> it is a very non-traditional crowning, isn't it? >> very, very 2015. >> through it all, miss philippines looked stunned, the broadcast ended with the crown being exchanged. don champion, cbs 3, "eyewitness news". >> last night confusion happening inside the pageant terrifying scene was happening outside on the las vegas strip. police say a woman intentionally drove her vehicle up onto a casino sidewalk, killing one person and injuring dozens of others. >> driver of the car barrelled through busy las vegas sidewalk, witnesses say she had a toddler with her. >> people were punching the windows apparently trying to

get the child out of the back seat. she accelerated again. just kept mowing everyone down. >> emergency responders were forced to set up a triage center to attend to nearly 40 victims, the normally bustling vaguest strip was partially shutdown. >> she went up, off the street, on to the sidewalk, two, possibly three times. and based on the evidence and information from the fatal investigators, at this point we are treating this as intentional act. >> reaching paris hotel and casino. >> literally like she wasn't even trying to stop car. just stand there just looking straightforward, not even moving. >> police say the suspect attempt topped drive away, but was tracked down in a parking lot. >> she is being interviewed as well as being tested for i am pavement. >> police say the driver and three year old in the car were unharmed, investigators will be combing through, surveillance video, and they've already completed drug

bus years day of the year for staffers, postal staffers. working around the clock to deliver 30 million packages by christmas day. so if you're waiting to the last minute, time is running out. here is "eyewitness news" reporter justin fitch. >> like elves in santa's workshop, deposition forwards post office mail floor was a buzz this morning. >> we have clerks starting 2:30 in the morning to get the packages to the customers, carriers come in at 6:00 a.m. >> piled with amazon, other on line purchases, turned packages. lazers scanning every bar

code, and parcel passing through. the comfort innor erring things on line, resulting in more and more packages being sent through the mail. >> each piece pre-sorted for carriers who will deliver them on this extraordinary monday, busiest day of the postal calendar. >> i've never seen anything like this i've been with the postal service for 17 years. >> expected to deliver 30 million packages nationwide, that falls into the 15.5 billion mailed items, holiday delivery season. >> you are going to have something delivered by christmas, you will have to give it to us today or tomorrow. that deadline for priority mail, both should get that gift in by the 25th. and after this busy day at the post office, now bracing for many more to come, they expect to deliver some 600 million packages, between thanksgiving and new years. in depford, justin fitch.

>> also arriving in time for christmas, real housewife theresa expected to be release from the prison. her lawyer told the new jersey newspaper, that he will pick up her on wednesday, and take her home, she'll be under house arrest there until february 5th. theresa has been in jail since january after pleading guilty to bankruptcy fraud last year. still ahead on "eyewitness news", special day here on cbs 3, toyfest is underway. we'll tell you how you can help make it a happier holiday for so many children. do you need the coat, still chilly, katy? >> yes, i would say so, definitely still cool enough to require the extra layer, but i tell you what, warmth in our hearts down here in the parking lot at our cbs broadcast center. we will tell you all about this great initiative, our 27th annual "joy of sharing" toyfest, still underway, we're going to have more details for you about this great edition coming up.

>> welcome back, our drive-thru toy drop off for our "joy of sharing" toyfest campaign is under way. cbs philly has pat nerds with the salvation army, uso, boys and girls club to collect toys this holiday season. we sent katie downstairs, looking fantastic, and those toys just keep on coming in, katie? >> reporter: they absolutely do, erika. yes, we've been up and adam since long before the sun came up when this truck was empty, now i would say we've got it about a thirds of the way full. so it is coming along, and we're going to be out here until 8:00 tonight we hope you can help us with this awesome initiative. make through drive-thru, come

on out, drop off your toy, don't even have to get out of the car. we put it in a truck for you, seeing couple of folks as i've been out here the last ten minutes, swing by, dot very same thing. also great partners here, joining me now, ceo of hand and stone facial massage. been doing this long time, too. you have drop off location. how has it been going? >> it is tremendous, our customers have been coming in, dropping off toys. this is our fourth year doing the program. and we now went from ten locations in the delaware valley to over 40. so we have a lot more drop office, and a lot more toys to collect. so we're thrilled to do this. >> couple every christmas elves off in the background, hard at work, plus let's see it in action, guys, now as they're doing that, we want to talk also to one of the recipients of this great initiative. than is major phil joining us from the salvation army. so, so far, you've seen it all

unfold since this morning. your first time? >> first time. amazing, just few toys on the truck then people start today come in even early this morning, now have hand and stone here giving their gifts, i had the opportunity to stop by a couple of your locations, full boxes of toys, so thank you very much. >> absolutely, yes. as we said, such great cause, every year, and it just puts warmth in your heart to see this happen, right? and along with that we have great christmas music off in the background from the christmas ensemble, very festive, joyous afternoon for us here at cbs-3 and in partnership with all of the great radio stations, as well, getting and helping children in need this holiday season. you can also sends out the #cbs3 toyfest, spread the word on social media, get folks involved. we want to fill this truck. that's the ends goal. and i think we can do it, we do pretty good job every year. >> looks great so far. >> exactly, so off to good start. but dow want to give you talk

a little shop here, give you sense how this weather pat learn shape up too. we'll get to. that will let's take a look how things will shape up here. we talked about laurence, warmth in our heart, quite a bit of warmth to talk about here when it comes to our actual weather forecast. what we are looking at here records to beat. now, this is for christmas eve. these are all of the numbers around the region, choice location, that we have to hit in order to tie the record. let me tell you, folks, as we move through this week, we have shot not to just tie and break some of these but likely shatter couple of records. let's go next to storm scan3, we want to show you how this pattern is shaking out where it is all coming from the thinks in the first place. storm scan3, quiet at the local little. just clouds rolling in, but the sun starting to shine through nicely, so feels pretty good out here in the parking lot. at a wider zoom storm scan what you see is front off in the distance, we do expect that even though this looks pretty robust it, will start fizzling with time. so moving forward, warming trends is in place. right? even though this is cold front it, does nothing to cool us down. mid 50's, the expectation this

afternoon, as we jump it into tuesday, we're into the 60s with some additional showers, primarily looks like it will be in the morning, we might see some fog out there too. and it does look like wednesday ends up our wettest day with some rain, and some of the rain could be heavy at times coming through in a couple of pockets. quick check thursday, 70s, that's where we expect to hit the records easily this week. as we look at the area temperatures currently into the 40's, into the 50's in a couple of spots, got to tell you it is starting to feel pretty comfortable outside right now outside our studios. so, expect more clouds than anything, but it is warming up, 56 this afternoon's hi, later tonight, maybe shower through the overnight, but generally the evening stays dry, no umbrellas required, if you want to come on out to the cbs-3 studios and drop off new unused toy or unwrapped toy. meanwhile, winter solsus tonight, 11:48 kicks off, shortest amount of daylight for us, and then those who crave the sunrise, longer and longer days with every passing one here on out.

great carols down here for our "joy of sharing" toyfest, katie, great job earlier. i love you don't have to button your coat, the warmest toyfest we have so far this year. and we have some special guests with us. >> three of my very favorite peeps, from 29 -- 92.5, weaver andy, we have dock and my man, crocket. hey, guys. yes, we get to chat every single morning. such enjoyable part of my morning. this is such enjoyable event. you guys get to join in, yes. so your second year doing it with us, right? one of the sister stations, tell us about it. it is an exciting initiative for us. >> it really is. and you know when you think about the holidays, and so much of it is about giving, and not just receiving, and this is such a great opportunity to come down here and give back to the community, and make sure that everybody's having a happy holiday season.
