story. >> we are helping santa claus out. >> reporter: the eye of the target right here in langhorne two, real life, santa helpers. >> we will go princess stuff, and frozen stuff. >> reporter: brooklyn fin and their dad officer, roger are meticulously shopping but not for themselves, but for another family who after a couple of grinches broke into their home early tuesday morning and were left with no christmas gifts. >> the whole house was completely destroyed, ransack. >> i walk over and explained the situation to the cops and without hesitation they all reached in their pocket. >> reporter: they reached deep. the just one day i'm he told district 15 officers raised more than a thousand dollars. officer bosack tells me he and his partner didn't get the idea until after they made it back to the police station, he said he was thinking of his own children waking up on christmas without gifts under the the tree, and that inspired him. >> i could not imagine my kids... waking up with

the the weather is making getting out of town a little bit easier said than done. "eyewitness news" reporter greg argos is at philadelphia international airport with how travelers are fairing there, greg? >> reporter: and, jim, good evening. right the now good news here at this terminal at least take a look, lines within the last hour have decreased, so if you are lucky to have a departure at this time thinks the time to come the to the airport to get tour destination. the the problem is the weather. take a look the a the departure board right now. anything that does not say on time is either delayed or canceled. despite the line and the wet weather, most people we found headed home for the holidays were in good spirits. >> has it been easy getting around. >> yes, i took the train and it took me right over here and it is nice and smooth. >> reporter: but the rain, wasn't helping. >> the good news is that it is not snow, and if we were, much colder weather now this would all be snow obviously and it

prospect avenue and that is where "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt is live with the very latest tonight, david? >> reporter: jessica, neighbors don't really know what to make of this i want to show you a live look behind me on prospect avenue where detectives are checking out this home. we're told that the home owner that lived here a male and his wife were home at the time, he opened up the door and he was shot and killed on his porch. this happened around about 2:00 o'clock this afternoon. according to a source, the man, the shooter allegedly left the scene, police surrounded him just a couple of minutes away from here, he then, pulled out a gun, shot himself, police did not fire any shots and now we're told that the suspected shooter is in custody, at the hospital right now, so the man that has lives in this home is dead, and the the shooter, is in the hospital recovering from gunshot wound, we have spoke to a neighbor who heard the entire thing happen and she says that she still cannot get it out of her mine. >> i heard, bang, bang and i

said it sounded like a gun. i went, in my window and looked out. i didn't see anything. i was afraid to open the the door because i thought if he had a gun he might hit me. then i saw the wife coming out, screaming, hollering. so first thing i thought was commit suicide but, that wasn't it. >> reporter: right now we don't know the name of the shooter, or we don't know the name of the victim at this time. we know his wife was home when that happened, we're continuing to follow this story but neighbors just told me off camera this is horrible to happen at any time but couple days before christmas it makes it that much more worse. reporting live tonight, david spunt for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> absolutely, david, thanks very much. this man is charged with murder in the strangulation death of a prominent psychiatrist, in center city philadelphia police sources say 27 year-old manual baes gave a full confession last night. doctor howard baker's body was found inside the rodeway inn on walnut street on monday.

investigators say that the seven five-year old was name with a belt tied around his neck. a new jersey grand jury has indicted the truck driver who crashed into a limo carrying tracie morgan. attorneys for kevin roper tried unsuccessfully to have charges of vehicular homicide and assault by auto thrown out, and investigators say roper had not slept for 28 hearst before that crash. it is something his lawyers dispute. the crash on the new jersey turnpike last year, severe liz injured morgan, and killed one of his friends. fire ripped through a home in west pottsgrove, montgomery county today, flames were shooting out of the two story home and when fire fighters arrived, just before noon time. the fire crew to two alarms and before fire fighters brought it under control. everyone got out of the home safely including a family pet. >> when we first got here, i know the dog was out on its own the whole time. >> the cause of the fire is under investigation.

uncertainty looms large this christmas season for the congregation of a wilmington church that burned to the ground one week ago. despite the the difficulties, they have encountered the leaders of that church are vowing to move forward. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao is live in wilmington tonight with more, jan? >> reporter: jessica, it was just about one week ago today, down to the hour, in fact, when the wilmington church burned to the ground. now here we are two days a away from christmas and pastor here tells me he has just secured a temporary home for the the holidays. the future he says remains unclear, he says his flock is wandering. the weather, reflects the the mood for pastor eugene brook, he visited the place where his church burned to the ground to wilmington every day, the the pain is still fresh. >> if anyone knows how to lose a child this feels the the same way, it is painful. >> reporter: week later the cause of the fire at new jerusalem missionary baptist church is still under

away close to 20,000 toys to almost 8,000 families, this holiday season. a holiday breakfast was held for families of the local fallen police officers today.
