4:42 am
shot for wintery wetter. >> hold on. >> i am talking potential for little snow, some sleet, maybe freezing rain specific however to the northern most counties, philadelphia, you're not included this time around. you will have to go pretty far north. berks county, lehigh valley or the poconos, or any point further inland or north of that for any shot of any casino of wintery wet they are time around. it is strictly rain for the rest of you. maybe heavy rain. this will have an impact. take a look. this storm system is massive, very well defined, really nice organization on it, but so often that can definitely lead to very, very damaging weather. still have severe weather currently errupting across portions of the louisianna, basically lower mississippi valley, this end there you have it, a lot more snow, a lot of pretty colors on storm scan, but can lead to very nasty storm system or nasty wet their comes out of these storm systems. snow expanding off to the north here. indicating you have enough cold air in place for. that will we think we'll have that very same potential here. currently your temperatures at 31 degrees in mount pocono, technically it will be warmfront that lift in here.
4:43 am
but off to chillier start at this point. temperatures today should stay pretty level with where they are right now. in other words, we will hover right around the low mid 40's throughout the day in philadelphia. a lot colder on the back side of this large storm system, though. soap this will be sort of the first chance we get for an impulse of enough cold to lead to this. some icing across the area. now, what you will find, we started at midnight tomorrow. okay, so not until early morning tomorrow we start to see this take grip. obviously this is not a concern for philly on south. but the further north you go, could you ends up with a .10 of more of ice. if you get to up .3 plus inch of ice in mount pocono, i worry about tree limbs coming down, certainly worry maybe even about couple of power outages. so that's going to be something that we have to keep a very close watch on. meantime all of the daylight hours feature nothing more than clouds, it is cooler at best, though, talking 46 this afternoon, but we have already hit our daytime high since long before the sun came up. not up yet obviously. periods of rain do move in
4:44 am
through the overnight, some will be heavy we think, winds starts to kick in, as well. rain really with us through the morning tomorrow. so you will be slowed down. i have a feeling the morning drive will be impacted by this. and also, again, the wintery precipitation further north, it is a cooler forecast for sure. but the majority of these days, erika, are still above average. >> we'll take it, thanks, katie. talking sports, the flyers are on holiday road trip to the west coast. it did not get off to a great start. the flyers and the ducks fought it out in anaheim last night there. were 40 minutes of penalties called in the first period alone. at one point, check it out, were five flyers in the penalty box. the ducks broke a two-two tie in the third period, and went onto win four-two, flyers in san jose wednesday night. >> the eagles wrap up their season this sunday afternoon against the giants in north jersey. the birds of course lost saturday night to washington, ending their playoff hopes. washington quarterback, kirk cousins, through for 36 a yards and four touchdowns.
4:45 am
the birds lost 38-24. now, after this weekend's game the eagles head off into an uncertain off season. >> you take 100% responsibility, do you worry at all? >> no. not good enough, not good enough. but i'll continue to work as hard as i can and show up early in the morning, stay hat at night, continue to work. no one in my situation will tell you if they are worried about getting fired then they probably should have already been fired. >> all right, another story from saturday night hear sources say eagles offensive lineman jason peters removed himself from the game in the fourth quarter to avoid further injury while playing for a non-playoff team. peters injured his elbow early in the first quarter, then returned, and then left again. peters is the pro bowl they are season despite battling injuries all season. >> still ahead this morning, "eyewitness news", christmas baby -- may be over, retailers hope you still keep shopping. first, here's what's coming up tonight on cbs-3.
4:46 am
4:47 am
4:48 am
>> here is a look at your headlines this morning, national weather service says strong weekends storms prepare deuce dollars at least nine tornados across north texas killing 11 people. as many as 600 homes were damaged. also, a marine who last been missing since last week in new jersey has been found dead. sergeant tristin clinicer has been missing since december 20th from the fort dix military base. leader of the search effort tells "eyewitness news" the 28 year old father was found saturday. >> and, the nfl and major league baseball will launch investigations after an al-jazeera report links several players, including phillies player ryan howard to performance enhancing drugs. main source of the al-jazeera source has also recanted the statement saying he made the whole thing up to quote test the reporter. >> 4:48. time for check on your

business news, money watch's jill wagner joins us up in new york, just because christmas is over doesn't mean you should stop shopping? that's what retail remembers telling us. we hear great discount right now? >> in fact, erika there is might be the best week for discounts of the year. potentially up to 60% off maybe more. specially when it comes to winter geese gear, that's because unusually warm november and december has few people in the mood to buy the heavy sweaters and jackets, though, discounts should be plenty this week. >> get that christmas present that you didn't get from santa this year. of course a lot of people on vacation this week, today, but doesn't mean they're completely unplugged from the office. a lot of people can't quite put down that e-mail? >> that's right. usa today study found more americans work while on vacation, especially, with smart phones, laptops, just make it too easy to check e-mail while people are away. workers say they do feel pressure, never to power down, and a different survey fawn more than four in ten americans had left three vacation days on the table

4:53 am
rain, absolutely, this storm system, is definitely a heavy, heavy hitter. already, a deadly system unfortunately, and across the deep south, still finding potential for severe weather, off of obviously still finding a loft snow falling across portions even of north central texas, through oak home, a all the way up, to, say, central iowa. so this is very expansive, very widespread storm system, than is what's headed our way. at the moment, however, nothing to worry b here overhead, all you've got are handful every clouds. pretty easy go for you, no visibility problems, no fog issues, like we've had so often as of late. but again, there are winter weather advisories that would go into effect tonight. look at your time stap p here, 7:00 p.m. tonight, when they take effect. we really don't think the rain will start moving in until few hours beyond that point. but berks, lehigh county as well as the northampton county area and the poconos, are the only ones included there. let me wack you through future weather here, guys. today just clouds. late tonight, again, notice your time stamp, midnight
4:54 am
tonight, things do start to get a little bit more active. and once we really get the moisture in here, yes, you can see some pink showing up on storm scan, indicating it is icing that you are dealing with, maybe little snow mixes in, but could be very slick drive early tomorrow morning, also, some very heavy rain through the rest of this area. soap, we will easily see ponding on our roadways, that casino of thing. and you'll have to slow it down. jump forward to the eyewitness weather seven day forecast, temperatures are few days at least above average, but it is a much cooler prognosis from here on out. ringing in the new year friday, with a far more, get this, meisha, seasonable outlook. sunshine a high of 44. what's happening? >> i never thought you were going to say. that will i thought winter was finally here. thanks, spoiled for a very long time. good morning, everyone, happy monday to you. taking a look at the roadways this morning, so far so good. ninety-five moving in the southbound direction at girard, one area i will be keeping my eye on, right now it is looking good. although i will bring your attention, look how many headlights are already out
4:55 am
there. not even in the 5:00 hour yet. already plenty of early risers out there in new jersey as well, 42 freeway northbound, creek road, all the way north as you approach 295, this is what you are looking at. so seeing some headlights there, out there, most definitely. we know this will pick up in the 5:00 hour for sure. the vine is now open. both westbound and eastbound for those every you just holding out that was now open, now open. both directions between the schuylkill and the broad. us1 southbound at rising sun avenue, one line block, reports that are police on are on the scene here, sews use burr best dis discretion, drive carefully. good news we have dry roadways. that's going to help us as we navigate around this morning. girard avenue ramp to 95 north closed until june. so you want to use this alternate castor avenue onramp. we will get very used to that in the coming days and months, erika, back to you. >> now for check on some of the stories our sister station "kyw news radio" 1060 is following. philadelphia city i council begins new session next week,
