we will have more on the firing in a moment. let's check in with katie and meisha. >> happy hump day, ladies, it is new years day eve and road are looking better then this were yesterday but for how long. >> it is hard to not look better but we have a sidebar issue, as i like to you will kate of some fog out there specific to the northwestern half of the delaware valley. we are not finding too much fog here facing south from our sky deck but you can make out at least 23rd from bottom up, of the at least sky scrapers. the there is a low ceiling here in the city but it is a bit more pronounced, further northwest you travel. the lets start off, with a quick peak at storm scan three, quiet as can be in terms of the the radar but when we eventually start to see that fog settling in here it will be messing with us. it is already settling in depending on your location w that dense fog advisory for northwestern half of the region we have to slow it
6:01 am
down, when you run into it. forty-seven, the current temperature at airport and atlantic city. chilly in the poconos but nothing too terrible since wind is calm, later on today, however we do start to see a new front, building in the region. that will eventually lead to additional showers and pockets of steady rain, we will track that system so you can get a sense of the timing there later in the the show but for now, hey it is calm, collect here both on the sky deck and for the most part the rest of the region, katie, back to you. any sunshine will be so welcomed, after yesterday we are still dealing with that fog this morning, good morning, if you are just joining us we're happy you are here. here's montgomeryville you can see fog, halo around the lights, route 309 northbound at 202 you will need fog lights in and around this area route one southbound at fox street we are looking good now. you can see no real slickness letting you know that the roadways are nice and dry. that is certainly going to help your commute, i-95 taillights moving in the
6:02 am
southbound direction at academy looking good, i-95, i'm keeping my eye on. we saw it here looking busy, same with the cottman avenue area we are used to that at around this time monday through wednesday. accident in up are pottsgrove, the at bennington road. still an accident that has in the been cleared for those around that a area we have construction route 70 eastbound in new jersey at cuthbert boulevard. right lane is block until 6:00 . that should be lifting right about now. i'll let you know when it does. back over to you. check out today's daily news, front page says good bye, mr. chip. back page reads, dead duck referring to chip's former job as coach of the oregon ducks. we have some team three coverage of the chip kelly's firing, jan carabao is live at melrose diner in south philadelphia where chip's toast but we will begin with "eyewitness news" sports report are pat gallon with the morning crew at sport radio 94 wip. i know phone lines are lighting up. some people are down right brutal about all this.
6:03 am
>> reporter: nicole, what is going on with our sports teams in this city. it has been a absolute disaster. the it all culminates with the firing of the chip kelly coming out of the left field last night. not so much the firing itself because i think a a lot of people thought that this was possible after the season, but in the before the the final game of the year. it is more about the timing, a tuesday evening, at 7:00 o'clock and jeffery lurie key side he is getting rid of chip kelly. it began with a bang. he was called an offensive genius coming from oregon. he was thought to be someone to change the game. at first its looked to be true. ten wins his first year, ten wins his second year. although no playoffs but six-nine heading in the final a begins the giants. the is there thought chip kelly lost locker room and that the guy stopped playing for him especially given how the season has been ending and is there thought that chip's lack of of relationships with the players is also leading to this. owner jeffery lurie, he is taking notice of everything.
6:04 am
there was a meeting at some point after tuesday's practice at about 7:12 p.m. chip kelly was released by the the team with his hand pick general manager ed manny wits. jeffery lurie said quote i have made a decision to release chip kill think evening. i spent last three seasons evaluating many factors involve in our performance as a team. the a as i watched this season unfold i determined it was time to make a change. the as we move forward the search for a new head coach will begin and will be led by myself, don smolenski and howie roseman. the to the extent we are able we will try to keep you informed as we get through this process. eagles offensive lineman lane johnson joined nine wip last night and he was shocked. >> that is what happened when you don't get out there and play well, you know, players get fired and coaches get fired whenever something happened. it is partial to blame are the the players, definitely.
6:05 am
>> when bad things happen in this league you will be out on your bun and that is what has happened to chip kelly, six-nine before he was let go by jeffery lurie. i thought maybe it with happen after the year but not the in this way and not at din are time at 7:00 o'clock on a tuesday evening. new lets get back down to south philadelphia at melrose diner where jan carabao is talking with fans and grabbing their reaction as well. how is the the food tasting out there? >> reporter: hey, the toast, chip is toast, someone told me to a say that. i think producer told me to say that. i think everyone here is having a better morning than chip kelly is having this morning. a lot of people are saying different things especially on twitter, get the a load of this, it business time. it needed to be done. it was inevitable. i'm happy. these are all sentiments from eagles fans after learning that coach chip kelly is in longer the coach of the philadelphia eagles.
6:06 am
i have a good feeling this will be the the talk of the town especially here at melrose diner in south philadelphia as morning crowd starts to trickle n eagles nation did his in the hold anything back when it comes to sharing an opinion. twitter was on fire last night when news broke that kelly had been released. sports bars were a a buzz too, some fans do cut coach kelly slack for eagles disappointing season saying a coach can only do so much but mess fans are unfor giving, they just want someone to bring more w ease next sees on. >> i'm glad. i'm's not surprised at all. not at all. >> eagles need a strong leader. >> philadelphia loves a winner and if you are in the a winner, you have to go. he trade add way some quality players i thought it was all nothing but a personality dispute. he brought in a guy for millions of dollars who was an absolute bust. it is time to make a change.
6:07 am
>> why do you let him get before within game foresees on. stick around, fire him a after the game. it may be they had a talk. there is something there to it. >> reporter: people are wondering why it went down in such a way, in the evening before the last game of the season. and some of the first, some of the first customers here at melrose, bruce, good morning, how are you feeling. >> good. >> reporter: i see you have the the newspaper in front of you. >> yes. >> reporter: what does it say. >> chip's out. >> reporter: how do you feel about that. >> it was a good move, right move, it shows that the owner of the team is looking to go in the right direction and get things moving in the positive, you know, chip kelly, he wasn't a nfl coach, more of the college coach, he didn't treat the players presently and i think it is definitely the right move. >> reporter: what work in the college didn't work in the nfl. >> in the at all. >> reporter: surprised how it went down at dinner time.
6:08 am
>> i was surprised they didn't let him finish out the season and get rid of him. >> reporter: bruce, thanks very much. enjoy your breakfast. nicole, back to you. >> one of our writers said, if fans are the body of this organization, eagles nation is the the mouth. i could not agree more, so much reaction to this announce. we will check back with you, thanks, jan. meanwhile chip kelly firing is trending on twitter. more talk on line. former eagle we'll manual ac ho didn't hold back, power tend to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. actor dave gameanas dingdong the chip is difficulties, wick chip, dingdong, the wick chip is dead, ouch. he goes on to say gone, see you, eagles made the best move of the season. hashtag, boom. how do you feel about the eagles decision to fire chip kelly.
