"eyewitness news" reporter rahel solomon is live in center city with more details on that, rahel. >> reporter: nicole, good evening. a local organizer with the the group black lives matter, tells me about 150 protesters showed up today, for the the mummers parade. protest was peaceful, however, two people, were arrest to ted. >> this is where everybody is. this is where our awareness is. >> reporter: at philadelphia, descended upon center city for

annual mummers parade, so too did protesters. >> i've got smiles, and i've got the someone yelling you go away. they are just more interested in attacking then in listening. so there is not a lot of comprehension, in general. >> reporter: philadelphia police say two people had to be arrested during a parade, near broad and spruce, one for disorderly conduct, other for disrupting the parade. protesters we spoke to said they showed up friday to bring awareness to a host of issues. some working to draw attention to the death of tamer rice a 12 year-old boy when police mistook a pellet gun for a real gun. >> it is just unconsciousnable. it absolutely demand justice. >> reporter: others advocating raising the minimum wage, to $15 an hour. >> it is black lives matter, it is which is part of all lives matter. people need a living wage. they need to be able to have hope in their lives. >> reporter: and another thing

we saw a lot of today was law enforcement. spokesmen with the philadelphia police department confirming to me that there was an increased presence this year because of recent events around the world and knowledge that there would be protester. reporting live, rahel solomon for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". the mummers, of course, are about more than just a new years day parade in philadelphia, it is a time honored tradition, that has danced its way in the hearts of the generations. and this year a new division is getting in on the the act, "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff has the the story from center city philadelphia. >> reporter: it ace a kaleidoscope of patterns, themes, colors. >> it is a tradition, okay. that is the biggest thing. >> reporter: the the mummers parade on new years day has been a philadelphia highlight since 1901. and although quirky traditions still shine a new energy was apparent. >> it is fun. it makes everyone like check out what the mummers performance is. >> reporter: parade kick off with a new division called the

well, we will say good bye to an a incredibly warm 2015 and 2016 is a colder start. meteorologist lauren casey joins with us more on this new years chill, lauren. >> reporter: thanks. >> we got so used to temperatures in the 60's and 07's last month that when we got hit with 40's today it felt extra chilly and temperatures right now 40 degrees in philadelphia we had that wind out of the west at 13 miles per hour, really pushing down our feels like temperatures. so feeling more like 33 degrees. we are down in the 30's, railroad at the shore. northwesterly wind at 8 miles an hour making it feel like freezing mark. wind chills in the poconos down into the the teens. still low clouds in place throughout the day-to-day. storm scan three is showing us some of those cloud in place across parts of the southern new jersey but they are trending to break up. we will see that clearing, as we head into the the next couple of hours making for clear skies, overnight tonight, and a cold, and blustery weekend is ahead with high temperatures actually very seasonal, but something that we're just not used to and then that cold gets

reenforced heading in to monday with the arctic, i know you don't like that word, arctic cold front that will push our high temperatures down and our low temperatures as well, tuesday morning, looks to be pretty brutal. windy conditions, and low temperatures, in the low 20's as we start off on tuesday morning, and that will have wind chills down in the teens in philadelphia. i will have details on the cold forecast in a few minutes. >> see you you then, thank you. another new years day tradition took place on the banks of the schuylkill river. let's go. "eyewitness news" in pottstown, montgomery county where hundreds of people turned out for eighth annual polar bear plunge. getting in the water was almost as difficult as getting, out along the muddy banks. although not everyone was daring enough to take the plunge they offered plenty of support from the sidelines. the nicely done. taking the plunge didn't end on the river, the tradition of

hot chicken soup, don't get sick. >> all right. switching gears right now gloucester county police officer is hospitalized tonight after his patrol car was hit by a pickup truck. this happened on buck road in elk township around 1:00 this morning. officer jake on, was making a u turn on buck road to respond to an emergency call when that pick up broadsided him. the the officer is in stable condition, the driver of that pick up was not injured. police are now determining whether alcohol was involved in that crash. a search is underway in allentown right now for a missing five-year old boy. police released picture of that boy but not his name. they say he was last seen just before midnight, running in the area of south aubrey and east south streets. he wasn't wearing any shoes and any socks or coat, and police say that the boy is autistic and may run if approached. if you see him or know where he may be, please call the allentown police. fans are mourning the singer of the natalie cole.

in 1923. today we will change things up. 43 degrees. again, we're still above average and our high temperature 39. high temperature in allentown we topped at 43 in atlantic city but we are cooling off, 40 degrees in philadelphia we are at 36 in the lehigh valley. 37 degrees in trenton. and we do have those wind chill temperatures making it feel closer to the freezing mark in philadelphia a right now feeling like 20's in allentown down into reading and feeling like teens on mount pocono, that is because of this breeze, that is going to stay with us really through tonight and for the next several days, we are going to have these breezy kind of blustery conditions. wind speed right the now up around ten, 15 miles an hour with some higher gusts as well as gusting up in the 20 miles an hour range at times, so that wind chill temperature, is going to have a big impact on us and how we feel when stepping outside over the next several days. heading out this evening by 10:00 o'clock hour wind chills down in the 20's in philadelphia, waking up to tomorrow morning at 25 degrees. it is your wind chill
